I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

There are a few topics on here reagrding driver for PCI Decive when installing win xp on Acer T671. Each topic said they found the correct driver but never posted a link to what driver it was.

I have been searching the net for hours now with no luck as what driver to install. I have tried various things and im still not any further.

On a different forum someone says:

"Download from the Acer website, the LAN driver for the T660
This will take care of the Ethernet Controller and PCI Device Drivers"

For me however this only solved the Ethernet Problem. So i have all drivers installed apart from PCI Device, which is the reason im not getting any sound.

Any help on this is appriciated.

hello & welcome to TSF ,

you can go here ( http://www.driveragent.com) and have you system scanned for free

this way you will find out what drivers you are looking for don't pay them just scan for the results !!

if your system has ATI Chipsets you can go here ( http://www.ati.com ) to get some of the drivers that you need , you will be looking for support & drivers downloads , you will have to tell them your system type and ect... but that is all automated

hello really need help, i need to know how to get wireless on my computer or if i need to buy a wireless device. please help me

A:acer aspire t671

Welcome to TSG:
To answer your question, more info is needed.
Operating system and level?
Go into device manager, look at the network adapter(s).Tell me what you have listed there.
I'll hack a bit on your model and see what I can see on the net.

Ok:It seems to indicate that you have an integrated network adapter and ethernet connection capability.
If that is really true, and your user's manaual should detail that, then to go wireless,it would seem that all you might need is,of course an existing network connection(ISP) a wireless card, again user's manual is your guide here, a wireless router and a wireless network manager(something like the default, windows zero config,or the wireless manager that would probably come with your wireless adapter card) up and running to manage your wireless connection.

I have come to upgrade my pc by adding a new Graphics card and Memory as i have done in the past on countless occassions with other pc's however this time i cant even open the case i remove the 2 screws and it looks as if it should just slide back but dosent matter what i do it wont move can anybody tell me if i am missing something so simple here

A:Solved: Acer Aspire T671

Sometimes they are difficult to remove the first few times, you may need to use the open palm of you hand, hit the side cover in a glancing blow in the direction toward the rear of the case a few times.

Acer provides no documents other than to say to remove the chassis screws, then remove the panel, no pics.

Hello. friend has the above PC. For some time now, at random intervals, it will emit a 4 second whistle (haven't heard it myself, but assume its from the mobo speaker) followed by 2 secs of silence. Desktop is frozen. Noise continues the same cycle until PC powered off. The inside is dust free and all connections seem secure. Any thoughts, please?

In Jan 2008, I bought a new Acer desktop PC Aspire T671 with 1GB RAM installed. It has been failing quite regularly around once a week. I sent the PC back to Acer. They reformatted my hard-disk and sent it back to me. Whereas before, the PC would freeze in the middle of some work, now it only fails at start-up - it simply does not boot up; I can hear the fan running but nothing on the display. Usually (but not always!) switching off at the mains then holding down start-button for 5seconds etc does alleviate the problem.
I had great trouble re-installing my software after first repair and, therefore, asked Acer to issue me a cedit note after the problems persisted. Acer has refused but they want me to send in the PC again for 2nd repair.

1) Could anyone who has had experience with Acer please advise me if a stand any chance of a credit note (if problems persist after 2nd repair) - my warranty will expire soon!

2) Does T671 model have a known inadequate-PSU problem? What other problem could there possibly be (I do not use share-wares and freewares and a virus problem is unlikely - no virus was reported by Acer after 1st repair either)

Thanks in advance for those posting a reply.

First, I am new to this forum and look forward to seeking answers to my computer issues!
So I will "Thank You" ahead of time for your time and help.

Okay..my issue...

I am on an Acer T671 desktop computer. Originally it came with Vista. I am trying to downgrade to XP but I am not having a smooth transition.
I ended up taking the hard drive out of the system and sticking it into an external enclosure to format the drive.

I then took it out of the external enclosure and back into the desktop. I fired up the system and slapped the XP cd into the cd-rom tray...starting going through the process and up came the following error......

" Setupdd.sys could not be loaded. Error code 7. "

I'm hoping I can get some help with this issue.

Thanks again!

A:Setupdd.sys could not be loaded Error code 7 on Acer T671

Hello KorruptKranium

I think that error means incompatible or corrupt hardware.
Did you have any problems before this install?

Disconnect all USB devices and remove all cards except the video card and try again.

If that does not help test the RAM
If you have more than one stick of RAM (256MB or more) swap them over or take one out and try again with only stick #1. If it does not help or makes things worse swap the sticks and try again with only stick #2. Running with one stick at a time will identify if you have a bad stick. Try moving the RAM to a different slot as well.

You can put either of these free programs on a floppy and test the RAM. Let them run for hours to do many passes if you can

Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Memtest on CD ( this is a bootable CD and can be used when you cannot access an operating system)

Use your CD burner to write it onto a CD as an ISO image
Test with only one stick of RAM installed at a time

Hi, I've installed on my Acer Aspire 7520G notebook (was delivered with Vista). Used http://komku.blogspot.com/2008/10/acer-aspire-7520-7520g-windows-xp.html to find and download drivers.

My problem is that the keyboard driver is only halfly functional. The 7520G has a 17'' widescreen, and an extended keyboard with a proper keypad. After the installation of XP Pro, I haven't been able to use anything but a regular keyboard, and to get a keypad I'll have to press Fn+F11 to activate the keypad on the regular keys (Don't use it, of course). It would be fantastic if anyone could help me with this. Vista displayed the Microsoft ehome mcir 109 keyboard, now it's the standard HID keyboard unit. Anyone got any advice?

Hello all. My brother has run into an annoying problem with his sound. He's not very smart with his computer, and in the process of doing his own 'cleaning' he removed the drivers for his soundcard in Add/Remove. However his 'soundcard' is built into the motherboard. Normally I would know how to fix it, look to see what kind it is, DL the drivers, piece of pie. However since his 'soundcard' is just a silverbox connected to the motherboard I have no idea how to tell. I looked through device manager, tried to reinstall the drivers for the few items that showed up under Sound Devices, but it couldnt find any more up to date drivers, and I figured that since it is built into the motherboard that the original drivers would already be installed on the computer, and the computer would locate them and put two and two together and reinstall, but unfortuanetly I got nowhere. Under the Sound Device tab were 6 things; Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Devices, Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio (hmm), and Video Codecs. I tried to 'Install Newest Drivers' for the Legacy Audio Drivers and Soundmax ones, but nothing. I hope I have provided enough background info to answer my question of "How might I go about finding the name of my soundcard, or installing new drivers or whatnot?" BTW, the problem is not that the music doesnt play, its that it sounds really high pitched, like the Chipmunks. And i have tried different speakers, so thats not the case. Thanx in advance.

A:[resolved] Sound Problem

Well you could remove the whole kit'n'kiboodle from the device manager then it may detect a new device. The drivers are normally located in the .inf folder.

What make/model is the computer? Does he have a restore/motherboard disk?

Hiya, I've got a rather strange problem...

I've searched on Google for about 4 hours now and looked inside of my casing for my PC to check so many things, but I have yet to found a solution.

My problem is this: there is no sound! My computer recently ran Windows Vista, and it truly sucked compared to XP (no offense to you Vista users =]). Just it didn't have support for half the games I played and I am an avid gamer. Everything else worked so-so you could say, Windows Media Player 11 wasn't the greatest, but it worked! Now that I have downgraded back to Windows XP, no sound whatsoever will work. Strange, ain't it? Windows' worst-rated system by consumers actually had my sound working, and the best-rated system did not. I have installed the newest nForce driver (I'm pretty sure that's what my motherboard runs with) and everything to no avail. I downloaded Everest and Everest still has no idea what my motherboard is (Unknown?). I figured it's a Biostar due to its unique code. I'm not 100% on this though, and I will post what Everest came up with for extra help.

Note: I cut off a lot of the ending data as I see it irrelevant (I still have it though, if you shall need it =]).

A:{RESOLVED} sound problem

Confused, being that you have speakers your sound must be working in windows but not from the cdrom. That's my guess anyway. There needs to be a cable from the cdrom audio out that connects to the soundcard, or if on board sound, to the motherboard. To check and see if the cdrom is suppling sound plug some headphones into the jack on the front of the cdrom and see if you can hear the sound, if you can, then the audio cable must not be installed.,

The update must have steps on a few sound files. I recommend you download the latest sound drivers and install them after deleting all sound devices within Device Manager. Once you delete them reboot and Windows will discover them as new hardware and you should select Have Disk and use the drivers you donwloaded.

I've already posted this in the motherboard forum but realised it'd be better to ask it here!
I'm using WinXP on a Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Pro motherboard. It has onboard AC'97 Realtek sound.
If I use their surround test to check my 5.1 setup all the speakers work as expected. Also works fine if I play surround sound from a video in VLC or Potplayer.
A stereo source plays from the centre, front left, front right and bass speakers as expected.
The problem is any sound from a browser - I've tried both Firefox and Explorer - only comes out of the front left and right speakers. Any other stereo source would normally play from front left, front right, centre and bass.
I have tried the latest driver from Gigabyte's website ver A3.92 and the latest Realtek driver version A4.06.
To recap: surround works fine with everything but web browser sound only appearing front left and right (no bass or centre).
(oh and I also am using this computer with Windows 8.1 update on another drive - different drivers obviously - and the sound is fine with everything including the browser)
Any ideas what's wrong here and what I can do to fix it?

A:Acer 5742z Sound Problem

The sound jacks are soldered onto the motherboard. Unless you broke the soldered connection or shorted it.
If there is no damage to the motherboard, boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals. Look for Onboard Sound, if it is disabled, using your Enter and Arrow key, Enable it.
Boot into Windows, Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager see if there are any devices with Yellow flags, if so, these devices need drivers. Go to the Acer drivers page, Acer | Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site type in your make and model# and download the Audio driver for your model.

I'm running WinXP Home - I just recently reset my computer after it began working quite slowly (I thought because of system resources), and I encountered two problems upon returning to windows. First, Windows has reverted to Windows Classic Style, and Windows XP Style is not an option in the display menu. My sound drivers have apparently disappear as well. I get an "Error 88780078" every time I try to play music. All of my system restore points are gone, so system restore is out of the question. I have already run Symantec AntiVirus, Ad-Aware, and Spybot, with no problems found in any of them. Does anyone know what might be going on, and/or how to fix my problems?

I have also just discovered that I cannot enable auto-protect with Symanetic AntiVirus, and the device manager does not show any hardware at all. Thanks for any help in advance!

Yet another update - I ran network diagnostics under Windows Help tools, and I recieved WMI Errors on every test. I'm having a near panic attack!

I checked around the web, and it appears that Sound Forge 8 doesn't support Vista.

You can try to run it in Compatibility mode: Right click the program icon and select 'Properties' at the bottom. Select the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box and use the drop down to choose which mode.

If that doesn't work, then the Vista compatible version hs available here:

ok, i had this under the other post "No Sound Startup" because we kind of got off topic from wat the actual title was about, so i just copied and pasted the post...
I just tryed my "Restore CD's" that came with my eMachines. Didnt work, said that there was some kind of error in the T2682.GHO file on the restore disk... Usually i would just pop in the WIN XP CD so i could just reinstall from the actual WinXP cd (makes sense...) But... me being dumb and careless, lost my WinXP cd, so im pretty much completely screwed unless i do a Format C: from the command Prompt. Then restart and boot on the restores.... (im not going to this but its definatly a thought.) So im bascially going to go crazy and look for my WinXP cd all day today. So, as u said. I will just stick to the repair install method cuz this just cant b fixed....
i couldnt find the cd so i will go with formating...

Question: Would it be a good idea to format c: then try reinstalling WinXP with the restore cds? Even though the eMachine restore cd is corrupted with a t2682.gho error. Would i format it then find out that restore cds are still corrupted and then find out that im left without a computer at all?

hey there

Im sick of my PC being so slow to boot up windows XP. The system tray seems to load up fairly quickly until is comes to loading the Norton AV / Norton internet security - this is when the system booting process slows dramtically. It takes an age for the little NAV / NIS icon to appear. ANd once it does, i can eventually get started. I have added some bootvis screen shots here of whats going on in my system during boot up, to see if some of you guys can spot anything that looks strange.

Another thing is, what is Sophos antivirus v3.91 like? Is it as much as a resource hog as NAV? Does it offer the same functionality as NAV/NIS i.e. in particular ad blocking, internet security, automatic virus updates, popup blocker??? If not, which other internet security and anti virus software is worth looking into (ones that dont hog the start up performance)

Hello there,

While trying to install XP (version 2002, SP1), I get the following message:

File setupdd.sys could not be loaded. The error code is 4. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

When using another WinXP CD (version 2001 w/o SP1), the computer hangs while loading Kernel Debugger DLL.

Both CDs are OK, and I even low-level formated my HDD before installing XP (both times).

The computer: AMD XP 2500+ on an ASUS A7V600, Kingston 512 PC333, 80GB/8MB WD HDD, LG 52X24X52X. I was running XP on this machine before it kept freezing at startup, even in safe mode.

Not sure if NewEgg.com ships to Canada, but NewEgg rocks.

I have been rolling out machines for our users, but I recently hit a snag.

I can't install Netscape 7 on a Windows XP machine after installing the Windows XP service pack 1. What I usually do is install Netscape 7 prior to doing the Windows updates.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a work-around?

Holy.. little research did the trick.. now this post is a TIP

Greetings all!

Hope you can help me on this one...
I am really wanting to get rid of XP PRO (RC1) and 2000 on my machine just so I can boot into 98... see, today, i got home and switched on my machine and was a bit upset to see that my windows 98 installation wouldn't boot. After selecting to boot into '98 it said something like this -

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) failed - bootsect.dos missing

My Setup is as follows:
Windows 98 is on the primary hard disk (c:\)
Windows 2000 is on the second hard drive, first partition (D:\)
Windows XP is on the second hard drive, second partition (E:\)

i tried microsofts suggested way of getting rid of 2000 or XP and retaining windows 98 andd well... no luck... it keeps saying "ntldr missing"

Their method was to remove boot.ini, bootsect.dos (which is already gone), ntldr, ntdetect.com and ntbootdd.sys (if present).

lots of 's

98 is my most used and most personalised OS and I need to reinstall XP and 2k anyway cause since a recent upgrade neither has performed quite as well so i do not mind getting rid of them at all for now, in fact i WANT to!

So if anyone knows how to remove the NT bootloader and just boot into good 'ol windows 98 normally pleeeeease could you tell me how!!

hehe, i think i have babbled enough!

You can also start your computer with a Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 bootable floppy disk and use the sys c: command if you want to return to your original Windows 95 or Windows 98 configuration.

I have two systems with the same problem. On the first system my cdrom is the primary master w/hdd as the slave. My cdrw/dvd combo is the secondary master which, works fine. The second system sports a dvd/cdrom as the primary master w/hdd as a slave. My cdrw on the 2nd system is the secondary master which also works fine. All information from this point on refers two both systems. The devices on the secondary do not work properly. My OS is Windows XP Professional. The bios and windows recognizes all hardware and ID's as they should. Device Manager shows that these devices are working fine. All physical aspects of these drives work as they should. When a disc is inserted in the drives I am unable to access the media contained therin. Regardless of the software used to access the drives. When I try to access the media through Windows Explorer, I get an error message. ( G:\is not accessible. Incorrect funtion. ) I have tried several different configurations, swapped drives with other computers and everything works fine. Except that the first cdrom drive is inaccessible.

Hi J. Franklin,

You might try setting the HDD to Primary Master, The CDR as Secondary Master, and the CDRW/DVD as Secondary Slave.

Works for me.

Lately i have been having a real problem with when i start up my computer and everything is done loading at the startup, i go and click on my desktop Dial Up icon for my internet connection box to come up but it doesn't do anything when i click on it. Its like its hung or something for a long time and wont work. All the other icons on my desktop will go right to the places they go to as soon as i log in but my internet connection and my LAN setup for my home network will just hang for like ten minutes or longer before it will go. Today i did a system recovery with quick format and its working ok again now but i noticed a minute ago it hung for a few seconds when i first restarted. I've tried running Ad-aware but that just doesn't seem to correct the problem. Here is the log file from hijackthis in case it helps any.
