I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can't load window welcome screen! stuck at dark blank screen

Try this, boot into safe mode.
Right-click on "My computer" and select "manage"
When that opens, click on device manager

When device manager opens, look at your graphics card normally under "display adapters" - any crosses or red splats?

Hey everybody. A little while ago, I updated my Dell XPS M1530 laptop NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card and the next day, the display was all blue with horizontal lines going through it. There was sound, but that's all what I was seeing. I turned it on and off again and again but to no avail. I left it on for a while and then suddenly the display cleared up and the Start up repair screen was on and it stayed that way for 12 hours so I turned it off and then on again( bear with me here lol). The BIOS screen appeared so did the OS loading screen later but that was about it. The screen was black. Safe mode wont work, it always stops at
:\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys

System restore wont work also, it just freezes, Startup repair apparently freezes too, it keeps loading for 12 hours with no change. Im reallly confused and I don't know what to do. Im trying to avoid using the Factory Image Restore since I have so many important files that I dont want to delete. I really appreaciate any help over here guys. Thanks =)

I'm trying to figure out my brother's laptop.

VGN-SZ75GN, it was bought in Hong Kong. It worked fine this morning according to my sis-in-law. She told me that she was using it back and forth from her room to living room. She also told me that she spilled little bit of water. When she tried to move it into the living room some hours ago, the screen went blank/dark. Tried to reboot it, power light is on, hard disk on and then went off, and then there is a blue light on (not sure what it is).

I already tried taking off the battery and tried 30 - 60 minutes holding the power button without having the power cord. Plugged the cord and tried to turn it on, still the same. I cannot even start it safe mode either. It's running Vista (not sure specific version).

I appreciate help and input.

The techsupport said I have to format. I want to back up my documents, pictures and scrapbook kits which is a lot of information.
I have a windows 2000 on my old computer. Do you think I can take my HD out and back it up on that computer and still be able to put it all back on my new computer. I do have a lap top but I don't think I can use that to back up a hardrive from another computer. Am I right on thinking that.

Is there anyway that I can just replace those files without formating?

Thanks,

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 , that I customly added a Radeon 9250 later on.

I was just about to open up CounterStrike when my computer froze. So I said "no big deal" and restarted. But then after the windows loading screen I get a blue screen of death with the error message being "BAD_POOL_CALLER"

I am able to boot into safe mode, but i don't know what to do from there. I tried a system restore (from earlier today) and it still didn't work. My friend told me it could be a driver conflict. I tried to uninstall my video card driver, then reinstall. But while installing I get an error message that I am missing INF files err whatever.

So really according to my expert knowledge I have come to the conclusion that my computer is screwed and that I need a new one, but I still need to fix it because I cannot afford a new one

please help me again tsf !

Are you getting a stop code ex. 0x000000C2 along with the error message? Please give exact error you are receiving. If it boots too quickly, press continuously the pause key as soon as you see POST screen. This actually sounds like a incompatible driver related to your ATI Radeon card. I have changed the CMOS battery, but it hasn't helped.

Last night there was a power outage at my house. My computer and monitor are both plugged in directly at the wall with no power strip, and my computer was idling as I went to go do something. Now, when I try to boot it up it gets stuck right after the system checks at a screen with one flashing dash/underscore. It reminds me of a computer I had a couple years ago that did this and it was the power source, and I admit I have a crappy Xion one. What could this possibly be?

Specs:

ASUS Quad Core processor Phenom-Black Edition.

I've got a windows vista desktop that I have not used in awhile. I hooked it all up today and when I turn it on it sits at a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. Can someone help me get this computer going again? Oh, I should mention I'm not very tech savy, but I can follow directions good.

A:Stuck on blank screen during start up.

Let's have a look at the MBR (Master Boot Record) and see where we go from there.

Step 1: On a working computer, please download the latest version of PartedMagic:PartedMagic Downloads (download the .iso file under the heading "Most people will only need this file:")
Write ( in the appropriate manner) the downloaded .iso file to either CD or USB/flashdrive:Creating the LiveCD with InfraRecorder
Creating the LiveUSB
Boot the problematic computer from the PartedMagic CD or flashdrive:At the first menu with Default settings (Runs from RAM) selected, press <ENTER>.
Be patient while PartedMagic loads into memory, and then displays its Desktop.
Success? Let me know if you can successfully boot to the Desktop of PartedMagic, and whether you are using a bootable CD or a flashdrive.

PartedMagic Desktop version 2012-08-09

Step 2: At the PartedMagic Desktop, open a terminal window:Locate the black screen/monitor icon (ROXTerm) along the bar at the bottom of the Desktop screen (third icon from the left-side edge).
Click on the ROXTerm icon to open a terminal window and at the prompt, type:

fdisk -l

Note: There is a space between "fdisk" and "-l".
That is a lower case L as in Llama and not a ONE.
... and press <ENTER>.

One morning my PC just wouldn't load XP. It would get past booting - recognizing both my hard disks fine, but will simply stop when XP has to load. I didn't install any new hardware or software recently and the computer was running perfectly the night before.

When I try to run the computer in Safe Mode, it simply stops at:

None of the other options from the F8 screen have worked either.

I can't figure out what is wrong with my machine. Please, someone help. Thank you.

Hi brandon3875

What sort of XP CD did you use? Full-version installation CD? or Restore/Recovery Disk? [Did you build this yourself - or is it store-bought]

Were you able to boot into Safe Mode at any point during this time?

If you try to boot from a Knoppix CD, does the system boot OK? ( http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html )

Are you fairly sure the memory & video card are fully compatible with the motherboard's specifications?

Had the system worked OK over a long period of time before your current trouble?

Have you entered the Bios Setup screens for your system & checked through the settings there? (you can likely find a manual for your motherboard on the Internet, if you don't have a copy handy).

Have you tried starting the computer with the case open, to ensure that all system fans are spinning OK? (and that heat isn't an issue)

What make/model power supply? What motherboard?

... a quick-fix try: enter the Bios, select "Set Defaults & Exit" & try rebooting.

Oh, and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums

I didn't realize that it launched in safe mode everytime until you disable it. unfortunately I can't disable it as the computer sends no image to my screen and is blank. so if there is a method to basically force your pc to start in normal mode I could disable the settings and all would be good.

Hello,

I have Vista on my PC, and up until the other day all worked fine. I turned off the computer properly, then the next day when I wanted to turn the pc on, it just wouldn't do it. It recognizes the BIOS and the Safe Boots options, but then no matter what I do, it goes into a blank screen. Not even the cursor is to be seen. I tried :
1. Rebooting it in Safe Mode, I couldn't, it goes into same blank screen.
2. I tried rebooting from the Last Successful Boot (the advance option), it again went into same blank screen.
3. I tried rebooting from the CD I have, it recognizes my option, then little vertical bars show up at the bottom of the screen from left to right showing as if something is being read or uploaded or so, but then when the bars reach all the way accross the screen (horizontaly), the same blank screen comes up and again it goes into a freeze mode (with no cursor).

I have no idea hod this could have possibly happen, but however, I'm stuck with it.
Please, I need help.
Thanks,

I seem to be having this error where a whole window would get stuck on the screen.

I've taken some screenshots to illustrate what I'm referring to. Sometimes a program would essentially make a second window on the screen (like Paint) even though I didn't open the program a second time.

Or you would have white on the desktop from the stuck window.

As you can see from the taskbar, there is only one Paint program open, even though it looks there is two of them.

In the last screenshot, it shows when you move a window around, it cuts off part of the window that was stuck on the screen.

Hello
I have a Hp Envy(m6) sleekbook running Window 8.1
Recently, I tried to perform a system restore to an earlier date. On my first attempt, it said that the recovery failed, and suggested that I try turning off my virus protection and trying again. I did this, and it still failed.
Next, I decided to try to reboot into safe mode and try the recovery again. However, when the laptop started again, the hp logo was briefly displayed as usual and I began tapping F8 to go into safe mode, but then the screen went blank and stayed that way. No mouse either. I waited a while but nothing happened.
I manually shut off the computer, waited a bit, and turned it on again, but the same thing happen.
I've been fiddling around with it and discovered a few things that may or may not be of use:
The caps lock key still lights up when I tap it
If I just tap the power key, so that it begins hibernating but does not turn off entirely, when I wake it again, the mouse is no visible and I can move it around.
I was wondering if it was a problem with the display, but I didn't have an external monitor, so I connected it with an hdmi cord to a tv... Same blank display there.
The backlight still turns off after a while of inactivity and turns back on when I move the mouse.
Thanks for your help

Can you tell us why you were trying to do a system restore?  Your previous problem may be connected to your current one. I agree that it's probably not your diplay, especially if you can see your cursor arrow, but can you see a small flashing line in the upper left corner of the screen?  This is generally an indication of a hardware problem.

Hey everybody, I'm a new user here..I hope you can help me out with this problem...

Here's a quick breakdown of my problem:

1. Laptop Model is Toshiba L305-S5955

2. Problem occured about yesterday. No new software/drivers installed.

3. Turned off computer properly before I went to sleep. The following morning, it loaded to the desktop, but at after a few seconds, everything hanged, only mouse works, "busy" indicator of laptop does not light up. Restarted again, last known good configuration, same thing.

4. Restarted to Safe mode, it works fine. Attempted to reduce msconfig startup options.

5. Vista boots into desktop and hang seems to have disappeared. Successfully surfed the internet. Unfortunately, when a memory intensive program, like Adobe Audition was loaded, it would hang again. Restarted, was able to successfully boot to desktop and surf net again, but after loading Windows Media Player it hanged again.

6. Restarted and used Smart Defrag to Defragment files. Error occurs in Normal Mode, so restarted to Safe mode to defragment files.

7. Vista boots with a few errors, and says Configfree, Toshiba this Toshiba that has stopped working. Restarted due to these errors.

8. After restart, desktop no longer just hangs, ends with a blue screen instead. Same with safe mode. Either of two things happen in either mode - desktop hangs and leads to blue screen, or desktop icons disappear as well as taskbar leaving only mouse.

9. Restart... Read more

I then configured the wireless network for internet access and proceeded to activate my copy of windows and install updates. I selected the express install and let it go unattended. When I came back to check the computer it was displaying a blank screen.

I figured my computer had restarted so the new updates would take effect.
I restarted the cpu get the one beep from the motherboard indicating all is well and then the BIOS splash screen appears, I get the BIOS summary page and then nothing. The monitor still shows that it is receiving an input.
So here's what I've done to troubleshoot.
1)I first swapped monitors - no change in problem.

Hi Jeep_junkie and welcome to TSF !

Your PSU (power supply unit) sells for 15$... which means it's crap. That would be my first guess.

To confirm this enter the hardware monitor screen in the BIOS and tell us about your +3.3, +5 and +12V voltages. While you're at it tell us about your CPU temp and fan speed.

Have a look at this http://www.techsupportforum.com/f70/...on-107466.html thread. Read it, at least the introduction. Then use the PSU calculator to calculate your power needs. Enter your complete system specs in it, set capacitor aging to 30% if you intend to keep the same PSU for more than one year (which you probably do) and add another 30% to the final result to take the average efficiency of the PSU into account. Tell us what wattage the PSU calculator recommends.

Then check the recommended PSU's at the bottom of the PSU information and selection thread. Don't buy anything that costs less than 80$ on newegg and stick with known brands like Antec or Seasonic.

I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my HP EliteBook 8440p notebook computer.  The problem that I'm having is a lot of times during boot, the Windows loading screen will show with the circle spinning around.  Then the screen goes black like it usually does on all computers, but then, it never comes back on.  The backlight will adjust and you can see the backlight is still on, but the screen stays blank.  Sometimes I can get a mouse cursor that can be moved around, but the screen will stay black.  I know there isn't a problem with the screen because it will come back up when the computer is rebooted and then get the blank screen again after the Windows loading screen again.  Multiple reboots will usually get it to come back on, and then when it is on, it works great and I don't have any issues while it is running.  Anyone else have this issue and find a way to fix it?

A:Windows 10 Blank Screen at Load

I have same issue. I would not recommend updating to Windows 10 on the HP 8440p Intel Core i5-520M if you have the Intel HD Graphics. There are issues with this graphics driver and Windows 10 (not supported for Windows 10 per Intel's site). Often the screen just loads to a black screen when booting up after the Windows 10 logo screen. I have been able to get around this sometimes by closing the lid and then reoppening it. If that doesn't work I've had to pull the battery and then power it back on. This is very annoying and I wouldn't recommend the update due to this. This same issue occurs on 2 different 8440p laptops with the most recent Intel HD grapics driver installed (tried older drivers with no improvement). I will probably roll back to Windows 7 64 bit.

A:pages will not load get a blank screen

Sounds very much like spyware of some sort.

Have you tried to 'Reset Web Settings' and 'Restoring Defaults'? Both of those can be done in the Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Programs tab (reset web settings) and the Advanced tab (retore defaults).

While there, try resestting the homepage to www.google.com on the general tab...if still not working, try using a different homepage to see if the same thing happens.

Then maybe post a hijack this log file here:

Please help! The screen goes blank and the system hangs after the black boot screen but before the blue "Windows is starting up" screen. When I push the on/off button I can restart into safe mode, but restarting from there gets me back to square one. Things I've tried:

1. Playing around in safe mode with msconfig. I tried skipping win.ini, system.ini and loading only WinXP services. No go.

2. Using the Recovery Console to boot into msdos. From there I ran a chkdsk /r and then did a fixboot. No go.

3. Pulling the plug with the machine still on. No go.

4. Banging my head against a brick wall. No go.

If worst comes to worse, I'm prepared to transfer all my critical files to my (turtle-slow) laptop and do a clean install, but I'd rather not.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it? Many many pathetic thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to TSF

Have you tried 'Last Good Configuration' on your f8 key menu? (tap f8 from start up)

Failing that, try a 'System Restore'.

Did you try running chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console?

I was working on my thinkpad L421 last night and it showed some error and stated your laptop needs to be restarted. I did not read the notification clearly. Since then the laptop whenever restarted shows blank screen. Pressing F8 or thinkvantage also did not help. After that I googled from my phone about the problem. I removed battery, pressed start key for a minute, waited for a minute, inserted the battery and restarted. It still showed blank screen. Now in the morning, after around 12 hours, I started the laptop and it showed thinkpad logo screen. The laptop was only on batteries. I was very glad but it did not move ahead even after waiting for 5-10 mins. Pressing blue thinkvantage did not help. I connected the laptop to power source and immediately the thinkpad screen went blank. Now even after performing all measures mentioned above, I cannot even see the thinkpad screen and the screen us blank like last night. Please help.

Running HP Pavillion m9040n with Windows 7. It started about 3 or 4 months ago. Don't know what started it.
When I logged onto the administrative side of users and click on Computer, devices and printers all my devices show up in the window that opens. When I log out of there and go into the family side of users and click on Computer, devices and printers the window open and the page is blank, the green line at the top just keeps scrolling to the right. It used to show the same as on the administrative side did. It won't reconnize my HP Photosmart 309g scan ability but am still able to print from computer. Is this a Windows software problem as far as the devices and printer on showing up? Thanks

I would also like to bring it to your notice that the last my I used my computer, it shut down on its own while playing a movie and made a constant beep which indicated towards RAM issue. I removed one RAM of 2gb and then restarted the computer. it still has a 2 gb RAM but the problem of screen going blank and very very slow speed started thereafter. I had used my computer with the present 2 gb RAM many times, but it never had caused any trouble before. what to do?

It is almost as if the sign on screen is invisible, because if i hit tab buttons i can get to setup, but thats about it. I have tried everything possible, and have spent endless hours on the phone with AOLtech...useless. AOL 8.0 gives me the same exact probem, and at one point in time, each one worked perfect. Now the latest version i can use is 7.0. If anyone has any information, please reply or email me at [email protected]. Thanks for your help.

This is the last out of three that I'm upgrading. I followed the "How to Directly Clean Install Windows 10 without having to Upgrade First". I get Windows 10 installed it updates and I copy the GenuineTicket.xml. I get a message that I need to update the NVidia drivers and reboot. On the reboot I get too the first screen the rolling balls go through two loops pause and 2 balls into the second I get a black screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing. I tried repairing the start up and I get a message that's there's nothing to repair. I can get into Safe Mode. I tried just installing 7 and get the same problem. I can reboot the computer using the generic drivers but when I install the NVidia I get the same problem. I'd backuped XP using Clonzilla on Parted Magic, late last week, and was going to restore that for the time being. When it gets to setting up System Devices it goes to the same black screen.

Right now I just want to get it registered before the 29th.

Thanks

I forgot to mention when 7 was starting up, even though I had a blank screen, I could hear the start Windows chord. I changed the DVI for the D-Sub and everything is good to go. But now I have the same problem trying to install 10. A few spins and it goes to a blue screen.

I have windows 7 64 bit. I left my computer on over the weekend (was running a mine craft server from it) and I left to go on a trip. Sometime that night the server went offline. When came back today, I found m computer at the windows 7 recovery manager.

I have no clue what happened, my computer hasn't been acting up at all. I first tried a boot repair, and it didn't find any problems. I restarted it and a chkhd ran and it said that disks needed to be checked for consistency. I let it perform this and it began to "replacing invalid security id with default security id file xxxx." it finished but still got stuck on the black screen after windows loaded. I ran a memory scan and it finished without detecting any problems.

This black screen with cursor happens if I try to run in normally or also in any safe mode, so basically I can't do anything. I do not have any system restore points, there is no factory restore option (it's a gateway), and I do not have a windows 7 cd. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions? I've searched extensively and can't find any solutions. Thank you for any help, I'm kinda desperate. I really need my pc this week.

My brother's computer that I built for him a year ago recently started acting up. It now will not progress past the Windows XP loading screen with the blue loading bar. If I try to boot it in safe mode, when all the drivers are listed on the screen (which I assume are the ones being loaded) it stops with "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys" being the last listing shown. So I need a way to make it boot somehow or figure out what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

P.S. I tried booting with no USB devices plugged in (a suggestion I saw on another post) but to no avail

A:Stuck at XP load screen, stops during driver loading

This sounds like you have a corrupt file in your hard drive.

Check out your bios setup to make sure everything is ok.

Reboot your computer with an XP installation CD, then open the recovery console. Run Chkdsk/p then try to reboot. If that doesn't work then try Chkdsk/r.

Also, check your Ram.

Good Luck
