Do I still have warranty (dead mainboard)

Q: Do I still have warranty (dead mainboard)

I have a spectre x360 13-4040nd of which the mainboard died. This happened around october 2016. I bought this laptop in april 2015 but i thought (my mistake) it was april 2014 so i didnt think i had warranty on it. Online support also says that my warranty ended april 2016. When my laptop died I took it to a repair company and they were the ones that told me the mainboard died and could only repair it by replacing the mainboard. This would cost me around 900? so that wasnt really worth it for me so I left it for a while. Today I was looking for different options for my laptop, like selling parts etc. and somebody told me I still should have warranty on it because it should be 2 years. So my question is do i still have a warranty on it? Also after the repair company opened up the laptop which I also did to check if I still could use the SSD. Is there still little hope left or are there already to many mistakes from my side?

Preferred Solution: Do I still have warranty (dead mainboard)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Do I still have warranty (dead mainboard)

Forget the warranty. If it were only a couple weeks after expiration maybe a chance but it is like 10 months. And it was opened.

Hello, I have a (now broken) T460s whose warranty ran out two weeks ago. I took it to a (non-Lenovo) computer repair shop and they said the mainboard is most likely broken and needs to be replaced. Interestingly, the mainboard was replaced with a "used but serviceable" part just in November of last year by a Lenovo technician while the laptop was still under warranty. I wonder if there's any extended warranty on the replacement mainboard, because for me it feels like Lenovo put in a used mainboard that broke down after half a year of use and now tells me that's my problem. Getting it repaired and paying for it hardly seems sensible, as mainboards for this laptop start at 800+ USD. Thanks for listening to my problems

Hi girls and guys,

I got a Toshiba notebook (Satellite L50-B 23H) of a friend for repair (if possible). Since last weekend it doesn't boot anymore. So I thought it may be a problem with Windows 8.1 but actually it doesn't even show the Toshiba Screen.
The display stays completely black (also no backlight). I tried starting a Recovery or Linux DVD but still no image. Also using an external monitor doesn't help. The "no signal" message of the TV disappears for a short moment and then comes back again. Also the F4-key for display switching (with and without Fn key does not change anything.

When I try to start the laptop, the power button LED glows white constantly and also power/battery and wifi LEDs work as they should. The hard drive starts spinning and the cpu fan as well. Also the optical drive recognises the DVD and spins for a short time (but does not load anything as far as I can hear). But then nothing will happen anymore. Also it won't power off by just pressing the power button for one moment. I always have to hold it for a longer time. Removing the HDD doesn't change anything (but it works fine in another computer). And also no reaction to any key on the keyboard. I tried booting by using the F2, F8 or F12 keys as well (with and without Fn key).

I tried to do a hard reset by removing all power sources (also the battery) and pressing the power button for 30, 60 or 120 seconds. Without success. I had a look inside. I couldn't find any broken/damaged/... Read more

It tells me that hdd password is incorrect, but I use it for 3 years day by day and never change!!!!!!.
Technical support in Poland is on the floor level. What is with this hdd??

What can i do to use my password with MY HDD.

Please help.

(sorry my english is not good)

A:Re: Tecra S5-15Q: HDD password and mainboard dead

I searched in Toshiba pages for some info regarding the HDD password and found this interesting document:
[What is A HDD Password?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ9202JG0000R01.htm]

[TOSHIBA HDD Password summary|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6B01MC000CR01.htm]

According to the information in both documents the unknown or forgotten HDD password cannot be deleted.
If you are 100% sure that you use a right HDD password then it could be possible that you have mistyped the password. This is only plausible explanation?

Hi All,  I have a x1 2018 version bought last November. I have taken care of it very well, but I just found a dead pixel on the screen last week. I made the call to the service and sent it to them. But they just called me and told me the repair is not covered by the warranty because they determined that the damage was made by the customer (CID). The cost of repair is more than $300. My x1 has a 3-year limited warranty. Here, I wanna ask for the community or anyone that may meet a similar situation before. How did they believe that the damage is made by me but not a problem of their own product? I am a Thinkpad lover of more than 10 years and it is the first time they refuse to fix a screen and said it is my problem.  Thanks all. I attached the pic of the dead pixel here for your reference. Do you guys believe that such a tiny dead pixel can be made by a big guy?

A:A dead pixel is not included in the warranty?

Often, a dead pixel is considered "normal", but the decision is subjective, based on how noticeable it is.  You can get a 2nd opinion.  For subjective screen issues (dead or  hot pixels, too dim, etc.), I always carry the machine into a repair facility, preferably a Premier Dealer, who does warranty work.  I say that I only want to do the repair if it is covered.  I ask them to look at it with me, so we are looking at the same thing.  If the dealer decides it isn't covered, he doesn't get paid.  At the depot, if the guy decides it is covered, it simply means more work for him.

My U530 is dead - no power.  I have an extended warranty through Lenovo with next day on site repair.  When I contacted Lenovo this AM - Amber - and then her superviser Frances - tell me that they are undergoing maintenance for the next 24-48 hours and cannot even check and see what support I have for my computer (even though I am able to check on their site), and there will be a backlog of support calls once they go back online and can't even tell me "when" I'll get support. I don't understand how Lenovo can sell extended warranties with next day on site business support that they knowlingly and admittedly cannot fulfill.   To quote supervisor Frances "we cannot provide you with that".  I'm retired IBM, guess things just keep getting worse. Even when I get my "repair", it sounds suspiciously like it will get hauled off for replacement parts and who knows when I will get it back.  I will have to read the warranty document in detail - just sounds like a marketing tactic that Lenovo quite simply cannot deliver. Seems like they should provide a reconditioned computer (same or better) next business day and swap my hard disk if they can't "fix it".   Otherwise just send a shipping box and sell cheaper extended warranties.  (Though obviously this will be my last Lenovo).    NOTE:  I tried to "soft reboot" of BIOS holding down the power button while no power cord.  This didn't work.  Why would the B... I try to do everithing but nothing worked. Than i bought a new motherboard and a sistem started but just bios! when i tried to start an OS (win XP) a blue screen poped up saying that i should check computer for viruses, that my folders can be corrupted etc. Than I turned it off and put in an empty old disk and try to start it again but nothing hapend!?!?? No POWER again!!!
Its same story all over again!

Does any one know What to DO???
Is it a VIRUS???
Is my new board "dead" too???

Thanks for your reply!!!

A:Is it a VIRUS-or "DEAD"mainboard

I doubt it's a power supply problem because it showed the BIOS once.

I doubt it's a virus since you've tried two hard drives.

Hopefully that'll do until the experts get here.

Now I'm facing 2 issues with the warranty registration and warranty upgrade: Issue#1On April 16th I registered the base warranty of my product as it should start from the purchase date of my product. After few email conversations for purchase proof, finally on 3rd May, I received email confirming the base warranty registration of my product. It was starting from 14th April 2017 and ending on 13th April 2018. I checked the same on lenovo website. When I contacted lenovo, they said that warranty is updated in their database but how can I beleive when I can't see this on warranty lookup section of the Lenovo official website. I have also attached the screen shot of warranty lookup page as of today (22 June 2017). Issue#2I registered for 2 year warranty extension under Back To School offer (Ticket Number - ADP-BTS-025399) on www.buyalenovo.com and made a payment of INR 999/- on 6th May 2017. We have a case whereby the base warranty was expired end of 2017 (S200 MT10HQ) , but we have the invoice of june 2018.Now the service partner says, sorry no warranty as it have been expired, the warranty does not start from the end users date of purchase. Is there an warranty law for this in the EU or with Lenovo? We had similar cases with HP probooks which all was excepted with the date of invoice and not base warranty.

A:End user warranty starts from Base warranty or end users date of purchase?

Warranty starts with date of purchase.  You just have to register with Lenovo that you have wrong start date.  I had to do same thing with my niece's laptop.  See below website.  I just had to upload the purchase receipt to get the warranty start date corrected.  Hope the below helps.

I have an ASUS K8V-X socket 754 motherboard and I ok happy with it, buit I always think somethings wrong with it. Like recently after I was installing a new graphics card, all of a sudden it didn'r recognize my primary slave hard drive. We later got it to work but is this something that a motherboard could be responsible for? I'm also obsessed with speed. I have an Athlon XP 64 processsor in it and lot's of RAM and, at first, after reformating it seemed so fast, then the more programs I put on it the slower it got. I hear this is common to think this way? But anyway, (I'm an obsessive compulsive so please forgive me) I just always think somethings wrong with my motherboard. I ran a Hot CPU test utility on it and everything passed fine, but my need for the perfect motherbaord still persists. I tempted to buy this Gigabyte socket 754 from Amazon. (You can see it on the link below) but I may just end up finding out the same thing, where it would work fast at first and as I load programs on it it slows. Still I wonder if it it might be worth it since it's been about two years with this board and it may very well be responsible for some glitches I've had with certain things like I mentioned above. And since the Gigabyte would be newer technology wouldn't it be correct to assume I would get more performance out of it than the ASUS?

A:Should I buy a new mainboard?

Slow running is most likely to be caused by programs that load with Windows, not any failure of hardware. Maybe check the Startup section of MSConfig and disable any unnecessary startup programs - that's bound to resolve your issues. As for the Pri Slave recognition - that's an odd one. First off, check the BIOS still sees it then check Device Manager for conflicts. Could also be worth checking the jumper settings on the drive.

If you run this free downloaded program, it will tell you much more about your whole system including your motherboard:

Aida32 is now called EVEREST Home Edition (it's still free).

I'm working on a 10-yr old HP pavillion pc. The pc would not turn on at all, monitor displays 'no signal'. the pc lights flicker. I had an older atx power supply and tried that- it worked. so I know that the old power supply was bad. the case was VERY dirty. almost all the vent holes were clogged. even after I tried my 'new' power supply, the cpu fan does not come on and I still get 'no signal' on monitor (the hard drive/cdrom drive DO come on). I'm thinking the power supply blew, taking the mobo with it. I don't want to spend alot of time on this, but can anyone offer any thoughts on this? thanks.

my toshiba laptop was dead, the powerlight came on, the hard-disk was spinning but the screen remained blank.
I tried everthing , stripping it completely, trying a new ram and narrowed the problem to the motherboard or the cpu. i.e I can conclude that the problem is with the the mobo or the cpu.
This was a month ago.

Today I switched on again and voila! it worked, the bios loaded! I had removed the hard-disk, so switched it off, attached the HD and started it up again.. this time it didn't work. And hasn't since. I have again stripped it down , but it still doesn't work.
CAn anyone plzzzzz exlplain what is going here?? I mean it started , that means nothings fried, right??

btw the fan spins for exactly 5 seconds before turning off.

A:Dead laptop came back to life, now dead again

there is something like a "hardware reset" available on many laptops.
- try to plug out everything except cpu and memory
- remove the battery and do not attach the power supply
- open the lid and hold the power on button for like 20 seconds
- plug everything back in and try to boot
that worked for me for some compaq and dell laptops which did act like yours

my two cents...

I have owned my Vostro 1500 for nearly a year and a half since purchasing it from the Outlet.  I have had no problems at all until Sunday night when it just died.  No warning.  Just dead.  I first tried these suggestions found here and elsewhere on the web... Press Fn key while pressing power button, reseat DIMM A & B.  No signs of life.
Since it's out of warranty I feel like I have nothing to lose, so this morning I took everything apart looking for anything that looked melted or dislodged or overly dusty.  Everything looks great.  My husband has the same laptop, so I have been able to test the battery and AC adapter and in his and both work fine.   One thing I have noticed though is this.  When my AC adapter is plugged into the wall but not into the computer, the light is green.  The second I plug it into the laptop, the light goes out.  If I then plug the AC into the good laptop, the green light does not come back on until I separate the AC cord from the adapter (brick part) and plug it back in.  This leads me to think that it could be a problem with the DC Power Jack where the AC Adapter is plugged in.  But why wouldn't it still work with the battery??  Why would that cause it to just shut down mid use?  Is there any chance it can be revived?  This laptop has been like my right arm.  I feel lost without it.
Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I&#... Read more

A:Vostro 1500 Dead as dead can be...any suggestions??

Sounds like your mother board is shot. Looks like it would be something possibly in the power supply section.
As to your data the hard drive may very well be good and you could get an adapter to put the drive in and plug it into your husbands computer to be able to access your files.

sony vaio xp sp2...lots of peripheral usage, we have front and rear usb ports, digital cameras, printers, mp3 players
one morning when switching the usb printer cable from the laptop back to the front usb port on the desktop, the computer froze and NONE of the usb's front or back, have worked ever since.

important to note is that we do lots of plugging/unplugging usbs for the above devices

what we have tried to awaken our usb's (keep in mind we are in the early learning stages of computer knowledge...)

static discharge
safe mode reinstallation of usb root, etc
system restore...didn't work...no matter how far back we went

last ditch chance is a system recovery, so we bought an external hard drive and are backing up ( as with everything we do, not without problems, but that is another post here)
in preparation for the recovery

any other, clear step by step advice for us?
thanks in advance!

I have the following I-580:
Intel i3, 3.2GHz
Video (upgrade) NVIDIA GeForce 210
Win 10, 64bit (upgrade)
I have a performance monitor (Advanced Systems Care 9) that is showing my mainboard temp spiking to 192 degrees F. If I run a fan on the vent side of the case, it settles down to about 80 degrees F.
CPU, case, and PS fans seem to be running fine.
I think this temp spike is causing network drops and reboots. The question is; where is this temp monitored on the mainboard? Would a bad sensor fake out the system into thinking it was too hot?

Hello guys,
i would need your help in terms of buying a new gaming mainboard, the reason why i post my question here is because most of the german forums have a lot of douchebags at the community. However like the title says i would like to buy a new gaming mainboard for around 150?, if it's possible it should be futureproof for the next 4-7 years and be compatible with the second wave of the upcoming pascal gpus. Any good suggestions?

A:Gaming Mainboard for around 150€

Hi smilefist and welcome to PCHF,

I'm in America, and not sure what currency you use in Austria. Anyway, you may want to look into this motherboard. MSI Global

It has PCI-E Gen3, so you should be OK with newer cards.
