Performance of Excel 2013 in Parallels-Wind 8 vs Wind XP

Q: Performance of Excel 2013 in Parallels-Wind 8 vs Wind XP

I have updated from Excel 2003 / XP to Excel 2013 / Windows 8 Enterp 64 bit.
The new Excel appears to take longer just to move from 1 cell to the next, even on a blank workbook

I have a Mac Pro, using Parallels 8, and the XP / Excel 2003 works faster, both virtual machines are on the same computer:
The Mac is a Dual Quad Core, at 667 MH speed
I have assigned 2 CPU's to the Wind. 8 virtual machine, ( and just 1 in XP)
I'm testing these one at a time.

Why ? Is W8 slower
Is parallels W8 slower due to their interface?
Are there settings that could fix this?

Looking forward to the new software benefits, but hard to get past the speed issue.
Any body smarter than me out there on this? I'm sure there are.
Thanks in advance for any help or comments.
Gary.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well, Office 2013 uses GPU hardware acceleration to perform those unnecessary animations that looks cool to some users. From your experience, it looks like Parallels is not supporting the GPU hardware acceleration that Office 2013 uses. Try disabling GPU hardware acceleration from Excel options. You can also disable animations to further improve performance.

Hi
Some things you can try:

1. Restart your system in safe mode by hitting f8 before xp comes up after the bios screen goes away.

2. When in enter safe mode screen, select "use last known good config." That should take your system to before you had the problem. If not, there are deeper probs that will have to be sorted.

I would only use spybot or other non-aol spyware apps, and this prob is good reason why.

Good night gentlemen. I'd love it if I could get some help from you. Recently, power went out so when I tried to boot windows 7 again it told me it needed to check some files, etc. So I let it do it. Once it restarted, it showed the Initializing screen, and when it started I could see my mouse, but everything else is black. I can move the mouse around, and if I hit ctr+alt+spr it takes me to the management screen.
I thought it might be Fences or rainmeter messing it up, so I started Safe mode up (from which I'm posting right now) and whenever I try to un-install Fences it tells me it failed because it can't access the Windows Installer service, which may happen if it's installed incorrectly.
I went on linux and deleted the files but it still shows on the program management screen. Already tried booting up with last good configuration, but to no avail.
Any thoughts?

Hello,First of all, You are using DAP which is not technically malware, but it may include malware and allow it into your system. You can find safer alternatives here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=dlman#dlmanThat's why I recommend you uninstall it, because I've seen the infection you are dealing with in a lot of cases present where DAP was also present.Reboot your system! Please perform next steps in exactly the same order as I am asking you, because this is with a reason. * Download Killbox.Click killbox.exe.Select the option "Delete on reboot".Now copy the next bold:C:\WINDOWS\System32\efsdfgxg.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd32.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\z16.exeC:\WINDOWS\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\winlogon.exeOpen 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboardNow you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field. If you expand it, these lines must be there together if the files are present! Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. If you had problems with crashing on the Vista system, and now it crashes with XP, it could very well be the laptop itself.

Can you take it back to where you got it and ask them to check it out or better still, replace it.

It's been a long time since I've tried and failed to install IE7 on a my old, aging, but still viable Windows 2000 machine. I realize that MS has not added support for IE7 within this operating system, but perhaps, by now someone has come up with a way to do this?

At present, I am using Firefox 3.04 on this machine and will continue to do so, but I do need to use IE for some tasks. Unfortunately, IE6 does not have tabbed browsing (or multiple home page capability) and has some terrible security problems that have been solved by IE7,

So does anyone know of a solution to this problem other than upgrading the operating system (it was originally a Win 98 machine), which is not possible for the machine, because it has a maximum of 128 MB RAM. .

My Dell 4100 PC had Windows ME installed on Partition C:\. Since that OS gave endless problems, I installed Windows 2000 Pro (FAT32) on Partition D:\ and installed all the wanted programs there.
Win2K has functioned without significant problems

***** I just received a present of Windows XP Pro (Upgrade). How would best install that with this PC with a non-functioning Win ME on C:\ and functioning Win2000 Pro on D:\
Each partition is 10 GB and has lots of free space.

I want to get rid of the remaining space occupied by Windows ME, which is no longer a bootable partition for some reason and then upgrade to Windows XP Pro
QUESTIONS:
- How do I go about this?
- Can I just delete all of C:\ or does it contain the boot files and Registry etc.

** The entire D:\partition (Win2K) is backed to another hard drive [HDD2] with Drive Image 7.
Is the best option to reformat the main hard drive and install Windows 2000 and then restore the original from HDD2 to HDD1, followed by upgrading to Win XP ?????

Lets see 3+ year old AVira, 2 year old video drivers, 2 year old network driver.

That might have something to do with it, you think?
1-remove AVG and install MSE
AV Uninstallers

2-re-install current video driver
When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

3-update all your drivers

How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer link... Read more

Try disabling ALL encryption and MAC filtering on the router and see if you can get it to connect that way. This is most frequently a mis-matched encryption or MAC address issue.

I have a Dell mini - Inspiron 910. I dont know what the cause was, but went to start my computer today and the error "This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." came up. I cannot get to the Start button, but I can access the task manager, or command prompt in Safe mode. The problem is that this laptop does not have a disc drive. I have my reinstall cd, but the computer would not recognize the external CD/DVD player. So I downloaded the .dll file from my desktop onto a USB, but the computer does not recognize that, either. I tried system restore using the command prompt, but it said I do not have enough free space to run system restore.
Any ideas how I can get around this???

A:Wind XP iertutil.dll error - HELP!

The iertutil.dll file is part of internet explorer, and a major problem with IE should not keep you from getting to desktop, so I am thinking you have multiple problems and this is just one of them. You are probably infected. Do you do p2p filesharing, like Limewire?

You can download and install a standalone version of IE. That might reinstall it "fresh" and give you some functionality, but I don't see how system file corruptions with your internet browser is going to cripple the rest of the machine.

I've run some spyware and removed a couple of things so maybe that cleared that or I just got lucky for a while! However can not get rid of wind-find4U coming up as home page on IE at present. I've repeatedly deleted cookines and temp internet files but it returns whenever reboot the pc.
Thank you

I plan on purchasing a MSI Wind U100-451US Intel Atom N270(1.60GHz) 10.0" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook. I want to purchase another 1Gb RAM stick (i'm eventually going to do it, so why not go a head? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone), but I am unaware of what company made the stick that's already in there. I know you can't mix sticks from 2 different companies (even if you could, I wouldn't want to), so I was wondering if anyone bought one of the netbooks and could tell me who made the RAM they use. Thanks!

A:RAM info for MSI Wind Netbook

Firstly:

Upgrading RAM on the MSI Wind will void your warranty.

Second:

MSI, as well as several other manufacturers, does not use stick to a single brand of RAM. The addon RAM used in this video is Kingston-certified, but the brand of the chips could be one of several (Generally Samsung or Kingston). The pre-installed RAM is apparently not accessible by the user, so it may be very difficult to find out how to - and may be impossible to - match the RAM, because of the design of the Wind. Bear in mind that almost all brands of RAM are compatible with eachother as long as you purchase the correct type.

Two nights ago I went to shut down my laptop. It starting finishing some windows updates, so I went ahead and went to sleep, thinking it would automatically shut off. I woke up and glanced over at it to see a completely black screen. I hit the power button and then turned it back on to no avail.

Everytime I turn it on, It shows the Dell loading thing, but before it can get to the start menu, it immediately turns black again. In the corner, F12 BOOT OPTIONS shows, but refuses to work. It wont let me re-boot it. I also never made a recovery disk >.<

I've tried a couple of things, though I'm not very experienced with computers. I hit F12 repeatedly as it started up, and then went to diagnostics to run a thorough test, and after about an hour and a half, it said it couldnt find anything wrong. I'm out of ideas, what should I do?

Welcome to Tech Support Guy

1. The bad news is that without the recovery disc you may struggle
2. Is this a relatively new dell supplied with w8 pre installed
3. If so, and I am not sure how Dell configure their W8 laptops the user manual should indicate how to access the advanced start up options, in the event of failure to load windows
SHIFT + F8 if you are quick enough may get you to the advanced boot options
Alternatively with no other keys pressed, three consec failures to start windows MAY automatically take you to the windows 8 advanced start up options

It all depends on how Dell configured it and your first course of action is to refer to either the paper user manual or download it online from Dell

I am having a problem getting a netbook to connect to a wireless network. The computer detects that the network is in range (typically 4/5 bars) and that it's unsecured. when i try to connect it fails for some reason. TCP/IP settings are configured as automatic for now but no manual settings help the connection. The wireless card is working fine but it should be connecting to this network automatically. I'm not sure why it's broken...

Computer is an MSI Wind U100 running XP Home Edition SP3. I've reinstalled the Wireless Card driver a couple of times but that hasn't helped. I'm thinking about just doing a repair install but the computer doesn't have a CD/DVD drive so I'd like to avoid doing that with a USB flash drive. I'm running Virus scans now just in case, but it looks like the settings for the wireless card are just messed up.

Here's what it reads when I run ipconfig /all; yes, all other computers with wireless connections on the network work fine.

You are going to continue to have difficulties without a CD ROM install disk. Have you tried migrating an entire install disk to your USB Flash Drive or asking the question on the MSI website ?

Hello everyone :)
(pardon the potential English mistakes, I?m no native speaker)

Here?s the story: MSI Wind U100 (notebook, so no native CD/DVD drive) running Windows XP.
This morning, I tried to reboot it in safe mode in order to fully remove some software. It?s actually my father?s computer, so I didn?t know which button to press to go into safe mode. After having tried pretty much every Fx button on the keyboard, I decided to boot in safe mode by using the option in Msconfig ?> BOOT.INI ?> checking /safemode.
So I checked the option, reboot, got to the Windows Start menu, chose ?Safe mode?? and now, black screen. The computer is still running, but stays still showing this black screen. I cold-reboot it, tried again, nothing.
Then, in the Windows Start menu, I tried booting Windows in normal mode, but the black screen came up again.

Apparently, after a bit of research (http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/in...howtopic=35764), it seems that the BOOT.INI file is now changed to /safemode, so my computer cannot boot in any other mode than safe mode. And for whatever reason, my computer won?t boot in safe mode. So I?m pretty much stuck here.
It seems that I should be able to get it all running again by being able to use
ren C:\Boot.ini Boot.ini.bak
in the Windows Recovery Console. I just don?t know how to access it.

What I have access to:
- Bios
- Windows Start menu (options: Safe Mode // Safe Mode with network access // Command line in safe mode // Last co... Read more

I bought a MSI U100 Wind netbook and I tried to connect wiressly to a protected network but eventhough it was active my netbook could not find it when I searched for the available wireless networks and it did not appear in the available network list even when I refreshed it many times.

I can only connect easily to a wireless network that does not need a key or a password.
It is very important to me because I need it for my job especially when I travel.

I have a devil of a time quite often finding documents I just created and
saved. But I did not look which folder it saved it in, since from years of
working with computers it would always save it to Documents, where a normal
person would want it.

BUT I noticed (after hours of searching,) that it saved the document (a .pdf
file) in a Folder called XKVBTW02, but NOT also in Documents.
This drives me crazy. It's idiotic!!! Why does it do that and why could I
not find it when I searched for .pdf?

How do I fix this so every document is saved in the Documents folder?

BTW It also did not show up under Recent documents, that why it took me
hours to find it again. In above crazy folder.

I have worked with some documents today and saved them "save as" and gave it a name. But I did not look what folder it went into since I was used from years of computing that it would go to my documents.
But it did not.
Looked and looked. Not there.
I worked with another files and again saved it as a "save as" and gave it a name.
THAT is when I noticed it went to some NSP1RMCB folder. Now I cannot find that folder anywhere on the c: drive. I have all hidden folders visable,
What causes this crazy folder, why not at least also in Documents and how can I find this NSP1RMCB folder and fix it so it does not happen in the future?

Windows XP - VERY NEW BEGINNER

OOPS! - Woke up the AOL guy in the tool / taskbar up top

Was exploring, trying desperately to get up to speed!

Clicked on the little yellow guy, now he’s white and every time I start now I have to go through closing the AOL boxes first. He’s also at the very bottom right of the screen, hiding. No biggy, just annoying.

Still getting the hang of E-mail, not ready for whatever this is!

How do I make him “go home”?

THANKS!

I have a Dell Dimension 8400. I purchased a new WD Caviar 750gb SATA hard drive and installed it. I went into BIOS and set the boot order to read the CD-ROM first. I have the drive set to auto/achi currently but I have tried all available options with no success. Windows will begin to install and go for 2-3 hours and then will give me an error saying that certain files were not able to be installed and do I want to try again or exit. I purchase a new operation disk from Dell thinking that was the problem. Now I think it might be my CD drive that needs to be replaced. Is there any way to tell if it is bad?

A:wind xp home won't install all files

When you boot up with the XP cd inserted, do you get the question 'Press any Key to Boot from CD?'.?

If you press a key, do you later get the 'Press F6 to install 3rd party drivers?'?

edit: if you don't really care about Sata and can accept operating that drive as IDE, there is an option in the BIOS to make an SATA drive be detected as and IDE drive for compatiblity - "Combined Mode".
