Lenovo Ideapad Z560 shuts down while working in normal mode of smart noise control button

Q: Lenovo Ideapad Z560 shuts down while working in normal mode of smart noise control button

I have a lenovo z560 laptop. This model has a touch button called as smart noise control which has two modes mainly. One is normal mode and other is silent mode. As per user manual in normal mode the fan works at higher speed and for silent mode it works in slow speed resuting in less heat dissipiation. My laptop automatically gets shut down when i opt for normal mode and the core temperature readings are quite high i.e around 85-90 degree C. So it trips as soon it reaches 90. While I choose silent mode the temperature is around 75-80 degree C and thus it does not shut down but it works very sluggishly. Please suggest me how to overcome this problem. What could be the solution?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you actually hear the fan working when switching to normal mode? does it make a louder noise than silent mode? The only way to get hotter than in slient mode is if fan is not working properly.is this laptop more than 5 years old? if so, it may need a maintenance job to replace its thermal paste and fan cleaning.

Hi, I purchased Lenovo Ideapad 110 a few months ago, some time ago it started sudden blank screens during normal work. I took laptop to service in the shop where I purchased it (they gave me back laptop after 10 or so days and said that there are no problems, I doubt that they did anything actually). After that I did clean install of new Windows 10 OS, still that problem persistently continues.  Today I scanned laptop using Lenovo solution center and gave me this SMART Short Self Test Warning W1G8Z5ZH4-D3DV51.What might be the issue? I read on this forum that it can be problem with HD, that it is failing or about to fail. Is it possible?Laptop is under warranty, but I doubt in service where I bought it, because the laptop is bought less then 6 months ago, and the customer protection law in my country says that under that circumstances I have right that this laptop must be replaced or to give me my money back.

Hello all.  I have a lenovo ideapad z560 with win7 home premium.

Around 1 -2 years back I upgraded it to win 10 home insider preview.

Everything was fine until 5 months before....  it wasn't intercepting internet connection..... after much hassle I called in the technician and the problem solved but not fully..... sometime it would persist then I used internet forums to solve it temporarily.

Last week same internet problem surfaced.....  shoes as connected but no pages loaded in any browser.....

Did a system reset successfully....  then after few minutes it was a blue screen showing that all processes died....

Did a reset again but it said reset failed....

And the system hanged....  I switched it off....  and tried to restart but it shows a black screen after lenovo logo screen.....

Tried hardware unplugging.... draining out power supply.... all f1 -f10 buttons don't work.... no safe mode options available.... one key recovery doesn't work for win 10 .... pressing power button for 30 mins.... etc etc etc....

But the system keeps rebooting every few minutes with blank window after lenovo logo....

Calling technician isn't option cos I can't afford it now....  purchased in Oct 2011....  dunno if it still lies in warranty....

Please help.  Thanks in advance.

Hi!I bought an Lenovo IdeaPad 510-15ISK Model:80SR and like other customers i have the same problem on this model with the gpu nvidia 940mx being at 100% usage but core clock speed and memory speed being at 405mhz (when base is 1122 and boos is 1242mhz). First i want to mention that i updated my BIOS version to the 2017 feb (latest for this model) and still have the same problem. The gpu core clock never goes above 886mhz and it usually drops at 405mhz and the memory as well.Like the others said on the forum it seems the problem is from lenovo bios settings where is set that gpu cant go above 62 degrees and when it does the gpu drops to 405 mhz making the laptop useless in games. Also it seems the only solution is an bios  update from lenovo that never came. Also I saw that the support never responded to this problem. I hope someone from lenovo will give me a solution to my problem.I still have my warranty and i'm thiking about money refund or laptop replace model if the problem is not fix because the laptop is not working in the parameters it should work and i wanted the laptop for light gaming

Hi, In the Lenovo Settings application when I toggle on the conservation mode for the battery, the battery should stop charging at around 60%. However, even though the conservation mode is toggled on, the battery will charge to 100% and stay at 100%. The icon near the battery usually would indicate whether the AC adapter is plugged in by showing a plug and if you would toggle conservation mode, this AC adapter plug would change into a leaf. However now it is always a leaf, whether I the conservation mode is on or off.  I appreciate all suggestions.

Hello, my computer, a Lenovo Idea pad P580 running on Windows 7, is 5 weeks old and yesterday I was using Microsoft Word to edit a document and Word suddenly crashed. So I closed it, but then the cursor started spinning and I could not access anything on my computer so I rebooted and it started up but then just trying to open Microsoft Word caused the cursor to keep spinning again and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted and this time it was spinning from the beginning. So I again rebooted and turned it on in safe mode and everything was fine. Then turned it off and left it off overnight. In the morning I tried to boot in normal mode and it did boot but it was again spinning and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted in safe mode and I can use my computer fine. Can someone please help me get my computer up and running again in normal mode?

And also, this is unrelated, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to make the scroll bar stop moving on its own? Every time I scroll down a page it seems to lock the scroll bar and so when I move the cursor away from the scroll bar, the scroll bar still moves and I cannot click any links or anything on that webpage.

Okay thank you very much for your help!!

When I turn it off and back on, then is OK. But I don't want to do this all the time, there got to be a solution. :/One other question, in general sense - whith this mode on anc PC being turned off and plugged in/on electricity, does this mode applies or it can charge computer fully?

Hi there to who ever may be reading.

First of all thanks for taking a look at my issue, the problem as follows :

It shuts down (ie turns off, need to manually press the power button to boot up again) when getting to windows xp desktop.

what i have tried so far:
complete reformat windows xp home

complete reformat windows xp pro

taken the battery out of the motherboard for 30 secs then putting it back in(sometimes this works and it did for a while inabling me to install some softwarelike mobo drivers then after
reboot the problem persisted)

Following that i have tried different batterys and no battery at all each not solving the issue

started in safe mode and installed service pack 3

cleaned processor and heat sink

tried different psu

tried different hard drive (with fresh install)

I originally thought it would be a power issue but i have left it on overnight in safe mode as a test and it never shut down. It only seems to shut down in normal mode! i thought it might be a software issue but i have reinstalled it with different discs and different versions.

I dont think it is a hardware issue as it doesnt turn off when in safe mode, but then i dont think its a software issue because of the multiple clean installs that i have done. So i really dont know.

Please, sombody put me out of my misery. . . . What is wrong with my computer!

Try just click once the power button of your computer, it should shutdown.
If that doesn't work take a look at the Energy Setting (Located at Control Panel)
You should not uninstall the graphics drivers you will need them, a computer without any graphic drivers is useless

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I have a strange problem.  All the smart touch buttons on the top right corner of the keypad, go on and off rapidly as soon as a I start my laptop. The buttons that I'm referring to are the mute/unmute buttons, onekey theatre, smart noise control and energy management button.  These are the problems: 1) As soon as a I power on my laptop, I can see these buttons flickering wildly.2) When I login, the energy management, one key theatre options come up on the screen and they keep toggling (in sync with the buttons flickering).  Since the focus remains on these screens, its impossible to open any application and work on that (for e.g. a browser window). I have tried multiple options: 1) Reinstalled the drivers 2) Did a system restore to the initial stage (using OneKey Recovery). Nothing has worked.  The buttons continue to flicker.    Since the sound goes mute and unmute rapidly, its not possible to use the laptop for any audio playback. Since the energy mangement options keeps toggling, the laptop gets heated up and the battery drains rapidly. I suspect that this could be a virus, but I thought the OneKey Recovery should have set it right.  But it hasn't. It will be greatly helpful if I can find a solution to this.

A:Z560 Smart Touch buttons going on and off

Hi Shankar,

Thank you for detailed description. You have already tried out all possibilities. That rules out any software (virus, drivers, OS) issue. Also as the LEDs flicker as soon as you power on the laptop, it will be related to hardware. Only option that you can try is to load defaults in BIOS and also attempt BIOS update. But I suspect a hardware failure. Contact local service center for assistance.

I was given recently what seems to be a custom built computer tower, came with windows vista x64 home premium. Eventually, the computer started shutting off randomly- no warning, no shut down procedure, just turning completely off and not starting back up on its own. Of course, this started becoming more and more frequent. I can usually use safe mode without any problem, although there has been a couple occurrences of it happening IN safe mode. I have ran (updated) programs such as: malwarebytes, spybot - search and destroy, and avast! anti-virus. The first time I ran these, the problem seem to be much less frequent, but has gradually became the same problem. What I read in the instructions for posting, I can not use gmer because of my 64bit OS, but my DDS attach.txt will be attached in .zip format, and here is the DDS.txt log:

Thank you ahead of time for any time/effort spent trying to help me out.

Sounds like a driver or system setting in Normal mode is corrupt.

I assume you're describing a complete system shutdown.

I would check your Update history to see if you have any recent Windows Updates that may coincide with this issue. Perhaps a failed update?

First try going into msconfig and deselecting all Startup items (Not Services). Then try booting into Normal mode.

Worst case at this point would be a system restore.

Alright so my fan noise problems was a little different from the last post, so when I first got the laptop I had Zero issues with fan noise, now after about one month of usage and a few updates what felt like all of a sudden, the fan would stay on constantly, and my estimated battery life dropped to 3.5 hrs max. It seemed to be after the bios update, I'm currently doing a factory restore, if it fails where do I move from here?

Hi everyone,  I really hope someone can help me. I bought an Ideapad (300-15ISK - Machine Type 80Q7) about two weeks ago, and I just ran an LSC hardware scan. The laptop passed everything except the SMART drive self-test. I received a warning there and the result code: WHD01V000-UL7CLI I don't know if this makes a difference, but when I press the power button to switch the laptop on, it makes this little weird noise that sounds like a "spark"  or "static." The laptop is under a one-year warranty, so I'm sure I can get it replaced if this is a serious problem. Thanks for any and all advice!

Hey guys, I've recently bought a Lenovo ideapad 320 (320-15IKB (Type 80XL, 80YE) Laptop (ideapad)) and I hear something like a fan noise, it's not really a noise, but it's more of an oscillation, and it's low but if I'm in a quiet room I hear it well and it really bothers me since it's a brand new laptop.I searched the forum here and found something very useful but want to know first if this is for my laptop or not as I don't want to break something!the link is: https://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/solutions/ht117149 If this is not for me, any help would be great. P.S : I've replaced another one a week ago because of a screen issue, but the fan oscillation issue was on it too!

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums. Now, I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, but now I'm creating this thread.I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, and it worked really well for like a month, then I started hearing this really loud whirring noise and some vibration coming from the left side of the laptop, near the heat vents. I shut my laptop off and when I turned it backon It was gone. But now the noise is back and whenever I reboot my laptop is goes away but then it comes back after a while. Also, whenever I run the dust removal thingy in the Lenovo energy management app, It gets really loud then it goes away.I don't really feel lots of air coming out from the vent on the leftside of the laptop. I think it might be a fan problem but my laptop stays around 45-65 Celsius mostly. I don't know how hot it runs when I play games, though. Any help on this unnatural whirring sound that starts after a while is really appreciated.

I have read older topics enough but haven't found a solution. Laptop is very quiet in idle mode but every time when I use browser (Firefox) and open a new tab the CPU fan starts spinning which is very annoying. I'm using Windows 10 and I have turned Windows Defender off. Also I flashed the latest BIOS (E5CN58WW) but so far nothing changed. Temps are around 35 while I post this but seems that SpeedFan can't control the fan. Only thing I noticed that when I open a new page / tab, CPU usage increases from 4 % to over 50 % depending on the page. Please, is there any solution for this?

Hello! For this last Christmas (2017), I received a Lenovo Ideapad 110 from my mother. The computer was good.. it took a little while for me to make the switch from Windows 8 to Windows 10, but, all-in-all, I did not really have any issues with it at first. I tried to activate the warranty only to find out that the warranty had already been activated almost A YEAR PRIOR to purchase for some reason... this laptop was purchased from Amazon and I suspect that it may have been previously used.Anyway, after a while of using it, the laptop would occasionally freeze for a split second and then proceed to do one of two things:1) Make a loud buzzing noise, similar to something you would hear before a PC crashed - except the PC wouldn't crash, just consistently play this obnoxiously loud, glitchy buzzing sound. I don't really know how to explain it. If you've ever had a computer that would freeze regularly, you would probably know the sound I'm talking about.. just a loud, glitchy buzz.2) Make the video/media I'm playing go in sort of slow motion. Like, almost like the speed was reduced to .05x. I know this sounds weird, but I'm not sure how else to explain it. Everything would become choppy and slow, almost like I'm watching something frame-by-frame.Neither of these things would stop until I restarted the computer. It used to happen sporadically, maybe once or twice per week but as of recently, it's been happening more and more often and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Any ... Read more

Full charge will show me an indicator of 3 hours and 30 minutes. But as I use my laptop, it sometimes goes up to 4 hours. Then drops at 2 hours in a span of 5 minutes. It's too erratic. I just got this as a gift from my uncle in the US. I know it's brand new and fresh out of the box.
