I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My parents decided not to renew their anti-virus software when it expired so when I came home the computer was running at a snails pace and there were pop-ups everywhere. I have installed AVG 8.0 and Comodo Firewall Pro to hopefully stop anything else getting into the system and have run Spybot search and destroy and Ad-Adware, plus done a full system scans with the previous mentioned programs to try and get rid of what I can. The computer is still being as slow and a million unknown programs are running at start up. The hijackthis log is below, hope you can help.

Hi guys i need help.

For weeks now my PC has been freezing, running slow and randomly not responding, My PC runs on Windows 7 and is fairly new, i have tried almost everything such as.

Disk defrag.
CCleaner
Registry cleaners
malwarebytes scans
norton full scan
reducing as many start up programs as possible
EasyRegister
Iobit
Start up repair.
RAM Memory test.

You name it, I've tried it and this is really starting to stress me out.
Registry repairs to tend to rarely solve the issue but when they do it works until i turn off the PC and start it up again the next day.
Please help.

A:Computer running slow, tried everything! Works in safe mode.

Registry cleaners are not recommended and could have made the situation worse.

You have done a lot to try to isolate the problem. Two areas you haven't tested are PSU and hard disk. I suggest downloading a disk testing tool such as SeaTools or Data Lifeguard Diagnostics, burning it to a bootable disk, and running the tests to see if your disk is healthy.

Freezing and slow response can also be a symptom of a failing or underpowered power supply.

About a week ago I got a virus that deleted everything on my windows 7 computer, so what I did was do a system restore, which brought me back a few weeks also all my stuff was back but most of it didnt work so i removed all of the stuff that didnt work and reinstalled it. But ever since I did that it has been running extremly slower then it used to. For example I can't play high end games anymore i used to run a solid 60 fps on most games I have now its a lot lower 0-25 and its a gaming computer. Then I did a scan it removed a virus but it was just some simple trojan. I have tried scanning for viruses without any luck with AVG, Malware Bytes, Etc. when you say but most of it didn't work so I removed all of the stuff that didn't work and reinstalled it did you reinstall the operating system or files or software what did you reinstall?
System Restore seldomly works because this virus will 9 times out of 10 add itself to system volume information which is where the system restore shadows are stored so when you run a system restore so will the virus restore that is how it works you need to get Rid of Viruses though anti virus software and deleting files out of the Roaming folder and many other places Viruses Hide which a Anti Virus System will detect for you. the other thing I would recommend you do is scan with Eset Security online scanner and do a... A:computer running slow, constant file found as malware but cat be deleted

Before any work can be done on this machine, there is something that requires your immediate intervention.

This machine is messed up pretty badly because you have several anti-virus programs (Antivir & McAfee) on your machine. That's not a good idea!!

Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & produces undesirable results. Please uninstall ALL leaving only one of them.

ALL the antivirus programs must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstallPost a fresh HJT log when you have completed the above task.

A:Prefetch folder is deleted.system running extremely slow

Hello masoomsahib and welcome to Seven Forums.

If "some other program" deleted your prefetch folder, I'd be concerned about malware on your computer. Even deleting the contents of the prefetch folder can affect computer performance. The prefetch folder is a subfolder of the Windows system folder.

Does Deleting the contents of a "PREFETCH" folder affect the - Microsoft Answers

I'd start out by scanning your computer for malware with whatever antivirus and antispyware you have installed. Make sure it's updated and run a full scan, not a quick scan. Then I'd run some additional on-demand scanners to double check your system. (No antimalware program is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it.) These scanners are usually recommended and they all have free versions: Malwarebytes | Superantispyware | ESET | Hitman Pro. There are several others available but these should help. Again, make sure they're updated and run full scans.

If your machine comes back clean I'd next try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two, this tutorial.) The scan looks for and tries to fix damaged or corrupt system files. If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

And one other thought. Windows 7 doesn't need tweaking by third party "tuneup" tools. Those tools can do more harm than good. If anyone insists on using t... Read more

hello. our computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot. and yes, it takes that half an hour to an hour again.

windows xp pro sp 2
AMD Athlon Xp 2600+
1.91 GHz.
1 GB Ram
20 gb hard drive with operating system on it.
200 gb hard drive sitting almost empty.

this happens even a half hour after a defrag. i have run spyware doctor and ewido, and am using twister anti-trojan virus software, the paid version. let me know what other information you need. thanks for all that you do for us.

Recently my computer has started booting up very slowly, and after it boots up the CPU or the fan (not sure which) stayed revved up. If I check the task manager idle system process is running at 98-99% all the time. I know this is a measure of how often the CPU is idle, but I don't recall it always being so high.

If I start the task manager as soon as my computer lets me when I boot up all my CPU is going to idle system process for some reason, instead of booting things up.

Its been awhile, but I seem to recall that some problems can make it look like idle process time when in reality something else is actually wrong.

I get random lag when I open a program. Firefox for example, will load just fine, but then I try to click something and the computer momentarily freezes. Its not just Firefox though, it happens when I open up "My Documents" or Pidgin or anything.

I ran Microsoft Security Essentials, Malware Bytes, and Spybot S&D, all of them came back clean.

I would post stuff from Belarc Advisor here, but it keeps hanging on the "Checking local network of this computer." part at 54%.

I'm not sure where to go from here. :(

About three days ago McAfee found a PUP somewhere on my computer, it was quarantined, but never deleted. I tried to hunt it down but I never found it thanks to the new way that McAfee runs its program. Since I discovered the PUP my computer has had twice the pop ups, three times the lag, and it has been pushing out some heavy hot air. I use a wireless connection and have never had any connection issues since this PUP arrived. I have also used Malwarebytes, Noton Trial version, and Malicious Software Removal. I still have found nothing, but my computer is still acting quite strange. I couldn't find the PUP, what I do know is that is was generic. After going into unknown or red zone websites I will wipe what I can to get rid of tracking cookies that somehow evade me, and to try and deplete any of the attached files that can be left in my temp files. Is the PUP still there? Am I doing something wrong? Am I infected? Is there another program that may pick up what I cannot find? May I have more help with this issue?

A:PUP quarantined not deleted, slow computer overheating

A Generic Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) detection is a very broad threat category that can include any number of different programs to include those which are benign as well as malicious. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs, may at times be detected by some anti-virus and anti-malware scanners as a "Risk Tool", "Hacking Tool", "Potentially Unwanted Program", or even "Malware" (virus/trojan) when that is not the case. Some programs falling into the PUP category have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. When flagged by an anti-virus or security scanner, it's because the program includes features, behavior or files that appear suspicious or which can potentially be used for malicious purposes. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them. In many cases such detections can be a "False Positive". Since these detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program, you need to investigate further if not familiar with them. When an anti-virus or security program quarantines a file by renaming and moving it into a virus vault (chest) or a dedicated quarantine folder... Hi!!
My both computers are working too slow,
first one start two days ago with a message appearing every 5 min,
that message came from the antivirus (it was NOD32),
showed me a that a trojan was trying to create some files,
i tried to find and fixed it, first scanning with the antivirus but a lot of files appears blocked
and later i tried getting in to C: where i find a lot of "hidden files"
next day it just don?t start

So I came to the other computer (that have McAfee antivirus)
and tried to scann the computer...acording with that antivirus every was clean
but then a looked into "C:" and find a lot of hidden files again
this time i could watch the files
so i put one of the names in google and it send me to this page

These are all the things that my computer have...(the one that still works)

i really appreciate if you could explain me what had happen,
i want to learn about it...
as you could see i?m a complete ignorant in this kind of things

thaks...

PD: I didn?t put kapersky scan cause the page don?t let me:
it says that is too big

Hi:
I have an HP HDX 16 running windows 7.  About 6 weeks ago I started having problems with my computer slowing down and then becoming non-functional, so I would have to shut it down and start over.  I ran malware bytes in safe mode but found nothing.  This has happened several times - each time worse.  I reran malware - again nothing.  I tried testing my hard drive with the built in diagnostic, but it says my hard drive is perfect.  Hmmm.  anyway, I decided that rather than try a bunch of stuff on my own, I would follow your step-by=step procedure to see if I have a malware problem.  I have attached the two files from dds you asked for.

Thanks for your help.  I await your brilliance!

A:computer running to slow, to many nothing programs running

Hello and Welcome to TSF

I see nothing malicous in your HJT log but I see you have P2P software installed on your machine (Morpheus). We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to infections.

There are some processes that you do not need running at startup, you can click Start/Run and type in msconfig. Click the start-up tab, here is where you will find everything that is running at start-up and also remove from startup.

Please create a restore point before attempting to stop any processes from running for safety reasons

Lately, my computer has been running extremely slow, and seemed to spontaneously restart from time to time with no explanation.  Also, after having left my computer running for a while, I seemed to lose the ability to use certain functions on the task bar, such as the Start menu, Cortana, and the calendar.  I had previously just assumed that these were just bugs associated with Windows 10.

However, today I found that when my computer had booted back up, the cursor disappeared, and I was forced to navigate using my touchscreen.  In addition, Google Chrome seems to have been deleted and my default browser was changed to Microsoft Edge.

I have tried rebooting my computer, but it did not seem to work.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Takes two minutes for it to start up to the accounts screen and another two minutes to load the processes on my desktop. Some of the features are disabled like progams don't show up on taskbar, can't view pictures, can't copy and paste on firefox, internet explorer doesn't respond, system tray icons are gone well some, and I think there is more. I need help with a problem on my Lenovo Ideapad Y510p Im not good at computers when it comes to troubleshoting and finding solutions.Thats why i need help from this community. I have only owned this computer for about two months and i cant figure out what the problem is. Here is a fast description of the problem:  Ive Windows 8 64-bit installed as my browser i use Chrome. It all started slow when I some times needed to restart after a start up because it didnt open programs right. At that time I didnt think much of it and keept in playing games.  But one day everything stopped working, on startup it didnt work more than 3-5 minutes or so before it froze. I talked to some friends of mine and they said it was a virus or trojan that screwd up my computer, they told me to do a System restore. So i did this using the OneClick safety startup and restored my system to factory settings. In the beginning everything worked as it should and i thought i fixed the problem, this time I also used chrome. But now recently it started again and programs crashed a couple of seconds from startup. so I did a system restore again. And now problems started directly after first startup. When i launch programs the computer freeze and it can take up to an hour for it to start. But sometimes it works pretty okay for a while.  Before I wrote this message i tried to register my computer to lenovo but that app cant find internet conection even... While using computer last night trying to update my games and the various applications to ensure the system is safe, I kept getting these Zone Alarm Alerts that  bit-torrent rundl32 - u torrent and other various run32dll WinSys alerts notifying me that they are trying to access the internet. when I went to open Zone Alarm, I was startled to notice that both the fire wall the id protection tabs were disabled leaving my system vulnerable.  The last time I checked to update Zone Alarm was just a couple days ago.  I have this set to be done manually. And, when I checked it a couple days ago, the Zone Alarm was all up and running fine. So, either the update I just completed on it last night caused the program to be rendered vulnerable, or possibly whatever possible virus I have on my wife's computer caused ZoneAlarm to crash.  However,  I select the deny option on all request on the above mentioned alerts to access the internet.  I did not download this U-Torrent or whatever other program is causing all the problems, but evidently found out that my son is the culprit. My account on Windows 7 was corrupted.  I was getting logged in to a "temporary account".  Tried renaming the .bak file, didn't work.  Did a hard drive scan, didn't work.  Did a system restore to several weeks ago, can now log in ok, but links to files, folders, and settings are still gone.   I had several folders on my desktop, some are gone, others are empty.   Hoping my documents are still around somewhere.  I've run Kaspersky and it found nothing.

I know you guys can help me, so thanks in advance for the help!

Hi I've just recently started experiencing freezing during start-up. It started during a game of League of Legends, and has been progressively getting worse. It's to the point where it'll take minutes to log on and when it does eventually get to my desktop the task bar will have a loading symbol when I scroll on it. I've tried disabling all start-up programs, and services in MSConfig. Updated all drives, uninstalled newly installed programs, restored to a week prior to the freezing and still nothing. Any suggestions?

A:Computer works fine in safe mode, extremely slow and freezes otherwise

Hi there, have you tried removing other peripherals like extra HDD's or DVD/CD drive? might be an idea to just start your machine with only 1 drive, your memory and Video card. If it still does that, try starting the machine with less memory, if you have more than one module of ram.

My computer has lock-ups every so often where I will have to manually re-boot.  Lately, in the past week or so I've noticed that when I boot my computer it works very hard (i can hear it working) but it takes 7-10 minutes until I can open and programs, internet, etc.   My desktop boots normal very quickly, I just can't access anything until the computer (works hard) for the 7-10 minutes.. then it seems to slow down or (catch up finally) and I can access stuff.    When I do have a computer freeze.. (few times a week) sometimes It will just freeze and sometimes it will freeze and a contant beep will sound.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

My computer has been running really slow & the hard drive seems like it is always running. Some of the disk cleaning utilities do not work b/c of space issues, the drive is 228 gb & 21.1 gb is free.

I downloaded the tsskiller & malwarebytes as recommended in another thread. Both came up clean & have also run Norton, spybot, trend micro, etc. which have not come up with anything either.
