Preferred Solution: explorer.exe error post-Internet Explorer download

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: explorer.exe error post-Internet Explorer download

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

rundll32.exe - Application Error

Dear Tech guys,
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.

Below is the dialog that comes whenever we double click or open (for eg: on C:\ or any folder in the left side pane of the windows explorer. If I just keep expanding the + of the tree no problem, only on clicking the item to open the following error occurs.)

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

program: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

This Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am running on Windows XP SP 2. I dont have google toolbar. I have yahoo tool bar installed. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and other combinations as well.

I have also tried sfc /scannow as well. It did not work.

It doesnt look like any adware or spyware (yahoo's norton spyware had done a complete run and no problems in the system as reported by them).

What should I do now to get back to normal operation of windows explorer.

Thanks and Regards,
Naga Kumar S

and install it. If it tells you that you already have it re-install it anyway.

Well I was still continuing to have the image distortion bug show up in IE5.5. Seems the problem must be in the fact that IE5.5 is designed for XML code with the standard being HTML. Seems this is the conflict that might be causing the minor problem of displaying GIF and JPEG files. So anyway I uninstalled IE5.5 and went back to IE5.01sp1, problem solved. 5.5 is slower than 5.01 for some reason, who knows. Hope this little experience helps out someone wanting to do an upgrade.

Greetings,

I spent 2 days trying to get rid of the Internet Security 2010 trojan virus on a Pc on my home network. What an experience! Thanks to this website, you had the solution that removed the virus and put things back to 'normal'.

However, now IE does not find any website? I have email access no problem. I ran the MS diagnostics and it says that winsock is ok, but HTTP and FTP are not granting access. Did this virus change some port settings or anything like that?

It's weird, because it only happens with the login that I used to remove the virus. If I log on with another login on that PC, the Internet is accessible with no problem.

By the way, there were some left-over residue in the registry which I managed to clean up with no side effects. Search for IS2010 and just delete the entries. There were maybe 6 or 7 of them...not too bad.

ANy ideas out there on the IE problem? (I'm using version 6, SP3 on that particular PC).

Thanks,

Scott M.

A:Post Internet Security 2010 issue in Internet Explorer

Never mind...I found it. Evidently the Internet Security 2010 trojan changes the LAN setings in IE. That is, it turns on the proxy server setting on the Connection tab of the Internet Explorer options form. I unchecked it and we're in business again.

Just thought I'd share with everyone just in case

I'm not sure how or when my IE stopped working. It was several months ago, and with school and everything, I procrastinated with fixing it and just used Safari (which works fine!). It just stopped working one day!

Back then, I had IE7 and after it stopped working, I upgraded to IE8, hoping that it would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it didn't. I am using Windows Vista (Service Pack 2, I believe). I have started my computer in safe mode (with networking), and both IE8 and Firefox (which I installed later and didn't work) worked fine. I have run antivirus programs and have found nothing. Whenever I open IE or Firefox, it tries to open up my homepage for a few moments, and then it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage", which it does for all websites. I've also "diagnosed connection problems" and Windows has said that everything is working "fine". In addition, I've also checked Windows Defender and Firewall. (I've disabled both and nothing happened.)

Hope you guys can help! =))

We have a website that makes ajax POST call. Since recently we found that lot of our users are getting 408 for ajax POST. This is not a consistent repro, but we can repro this in IE 11 browser. The ajax call makes an OPTION call and POST call. OPTION call
always returns success statue code. But POST calls returns 408. Fiddler shows the POST request body is always empty when erroring out 408 case. Looks like that the call timeout before sending the body. I found several articles online about similar experience
in IE 11, but could not find the reason or a solution.  Why is this happening IE11 ? is there a solution for this issue ?

After i clicked on OK,another error window will appear.

After i reboot,it still doesn't go away.
I can still read words and pictures files as normal.Just not the mp3s and videos i suppose.

Well, I?ve wasted another perfectly good hour looking for a way to download Internet Explorer 10.
I can?t find it anywhere.  IE 7, 8 ,9, 11 no trouble.
10 though it appears has dropped off the face of the earth.
Does anyone have a link into an official download location for IE 10?  via premier or mvls would be fine as well.

A:Where is the Internet Explorer 10 download?

I need IE 10 to run software that requires that version of IE to be installed.
IE 9 or 10 is supported, IE 11 is not.
I would not like to download IE from some random non-Microsoft location and distribute it to our client systems.
Anyway - after another couple of hours I was able to locate a deep link into where Microsoft has the downloads available.
For 64bit Windows 7
http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/E/0/CE0AB8AE-E6B7-43F7-9290-F8EB0EA54FB5/IE10-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe
For 32bit Windows 7
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/A/C/8AC7C482-BC74-492E-B978-7ED04900CEDE/IE10-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe

Just for your info. I was prompted yesterday that I had several updates I should download. I went ahead and downloaded all of them. One of the updates was a new version of Internet Explorer. I have been using version 8 and have been very happy with it. As soon as I had version 9 downloaded I started having problems. The cut and paste features were no where to be found. After doing a MS trouble search I found you had to activate this feature now. Then I found out today that I could not print anything off of the internet. I run an online business and need to print out invoices from the internet. I kept getting "Surrogate Com not working. Check for MS updates". I had just done all their updates. So I went to MS online help again. No solution or even a mention of the printing problem. So I searched how to remove IE9. I did that and now all is back to normal. Why don't those clowns at Microsoft field test these updates throughly before putting them out for public consumption? Is there any wonder Apple keeps gaining ground?

A:Internet Explorer 9 - Don't download

Besides the problems,I didn't like the layout either.
Same with the newer live mail application.
They removed the file menu,so you can't use select all to delete
all the junk mail at once.
Pain in the rear to do it one at a time.
I just ran windows update, right clicked the IE9 update and clicked
hide the update so it doesn't show up.

Windows 7, IE 11?. Internet Explorer almost starts (I see it briefly) and then a box "View Downloads - Internet Explorer" replaces it. In the box is what appears to be a random 8 digits followed by .htm and under that a homepage partial url (MSN.com). I changed by inetcpl.cpl home page to microsoft.com, same download box, but default.htm, not random.
I ran Microsoft's Mr. Fix-It, I scanned with AVG-Free, I deleted AVG-Free, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and scanned, Malwarebytes, TDSSKiller, RKill, Hitman Pro, Rogue Killer, all finding nothing.

Is this a re-direct or is my IE crazy?

Try doing a repair by going to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs. Scroll down until you find Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, click on the Add/Remove button and you will see an option to repair IE.

Hey guys, new to this forum, it does look like a great forum for computer questions though, thought I'd join in on all the action and questions.

Could one of you help me? Whenever I try to download anything using IE down in the left hand corner there's a picture of a hard drive with a red arrow pointing up or down, I forget. Then next to it, it says "Downloading from site"

I've tried several things and am used to the way it should be, when you click a download button and a window pops up saying what would you like to do with this file...

Somebody help me? I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Hi,

i have attached an error which we seem to get alot with users within the company, but the error comes up at different points for different users.

This shows it when trying to launch a Citrix session
it has also occured when downloading word/pdf/XLS documents from the intranet or web.

its not an access issue, as it also happens on them machines with domain admin accounts.
IE Settings have been reset to default, security to low to allow al active x etc but problem does not go

The only thing that seems to resolve the issue is up0grading to IE7
But other users with the same build machine in the SAME OU IN AD, so getting same access rights etc work

Can any help be provided?

Hi, I use a Windows XP and have been having this problem for quite a while now. When downloading zip files or anything at all like new programs or spyware and adware deleting software, this is what happens (I am describing this with ALOT of detail):

The downloading box appears called 'File Download' and in the box there is of course a moving picture of a piece of paper leaving the earth and entering the folder. The bar that shows how much downloading has been done doesn't fill up. In addition 'Estimated time left', 'download to' and 'transfer rate' don't have any digits after them.

The 'close this download box' box has a check in it and 'Open' and 'Open Folder' are faded so you can't click on it but you can click on 'Cancel.' This is normal I believe.

After a while a box called 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' opens and states:

"Internet Explorer cannnot download 'filename' from 'filesite'.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

This is what happens in everything. Please help, it seems that no one is able to provide an answer for this problem and I have searched on google for a long time and still no answer...Thank you!

I recently noticed that I can't download anything from the Internet. The strange this is that I can browse sites, and do everything imaginable except download anything! When I click download links they just sit there, nothing happens at all. Nothing pops up, nothing happens in the status bar, nothing.

It seemed to have happened right after I uninstalled two programs. GoZilla, and a program that auto-installed itself when I was downloading something from CNET (www.download.com). I think it was called Free Download Acellerator. If somebody could please help me out, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, this just started happening the other day, when I go to download something off of the internet, I watch the progress bar as the item is downloaded, and as soon as it gets to 100%, the download window disappears and I go check the folder that I instructed it to download but it's not saved.

If I download in Firefox theres no problem, the downloads come through fine in the same place that I told I.E. to download to. I've got ample disk space where Im trying to save to so that's not the issue.

I had I.E. 8 RC1 installed earlier and thats when it started to have this problem, so I uninstalled 8 and went back to 7, and the first time I tried to download with I.E. 7, it worked fine, but now Im trying again and having the same problems that I had with I.E. 8.

Like I said, no problems to download in Firefox, but I.E. just exits the download once it gets to 100%.

Any clues on what is causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks,

A:Internet explorer download help

You can't fully uninstall Internet Explorer, you can uninstall a later version to revert back to an earlier one.

What version of Internet Explorer did she have?

What is the operating system?

Do an Advanced Search for the file iexplore.exe and you should find several, any of which should start Internet Explorer.

I just joined because on a search I found this thread here and wanted to post to it, but the thread was closed so I hope this is ok to post this topic again.

I am trying to play a new online game and am having trouble getting it to work. I thought if I updated to IE8 maybe it would work. Unfortunately this has only caused me more issue.
Every time I try to download any thing the download just disappears after it is all most done.
I figured out how to go back to IE7 but I am still having this issue. Will not even let me download an up to date drive for my video card.

The other post:

"Yes, I've just tried that, and the file which was only 5MB could not be found, so for some reason I.E. is quitting the download as soon as it's completed, where as firefox is downloading it and saving it to the hard drive like it should.

I just tried again, and it happened again, it got to 100% download then the download window flashed up while I was typing this post and the download quit without any notice.

And it doesn't matter where I try to download it to, the desktop, or on my E drive or my F drive or C drive, everywhere is the same, it aborts once the file is downloaded 100% and doesn't save it.

BUT...

Interestingly enough, I just found out that my Gateway LX 6200 computer comes with both I.E. 7.0 32bit in the program files (x86) directory and I.E. 7.0 64 bit edition in the Program Files directory.

So I loaded p the 64 bit edition of Internet Explorer (I don&... Read more

First thing is to try is using another browser like FireFox
and see if you get the same problem http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

If yu are having the same problem I would try using system restore and take your PC back to a date prior to all these issues. Or have a look at your firewall With moving over to IE8 some settings might have changed
