Computer restarts, doesn't start, beep code.

Q: Computer restarts, doesn't start, beep code.

Hello, I've had this computer for just over a year and recently it's been randomly restarting itself and doesn't boot as a error beep code is sounded. Here is a recording of the beep code: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-Sboi5jkJDTZDVHeVNoemFub0k I haven't been able to source a list which contains this amount of beeps and it's almost time for A-Level coursework to be handed in. Many thanks.-Jordan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My problem is that my PC won’t start up. First, the monitor sets on (green light) but then immediately switches into power saving mode (no view at all), and meanwhile the PC boots up, runs for about 10 seconds, and then the internal speaker recites a beep code (once only). I’ve recorded it, so it can be heard at http://media.putfile.com/BIOS-Beep-code, I can’t really describe the beep as I can’t make out if there are pauses in it or not. The PC won’t show any image on the monitor when starting up, not at any point, the monitor just goes straight to power saving mode. My motherboard is Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, BIOS rev. 1016.

I have checked the monitor plugs, started the PC with only the power plug and monitor plug on, checked the RAM seats, checked the AGP graphics card seating, and all the other wiring, started the PC over and over again, I’ve booted it only with the essential parts plugged in… and nothing. Only once I have got the image in the monitor (When I plugged the CPU fan off and booted, and when I put it back in, it was back to no image, and this trick won’t work again, tried it), it showed the BIOS screen (Motherboard picture and BIOS version, not set-up BIOS), then it went through the normal checking the memory etc. and then got to the raid sata screen, showing some raid sata BIOS version 5.1.39 and got stuck there. I’ve got only one HD, Seagate Barracuda 160Gigs.

Hi, if someone could help me would be great! I receive this 7beep code from the motherboard every time I try to boot my inspiron duo 1090, nothing on screen just a 7 beep code not like 3-2-2 or 3-4 or something is a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1. I saw around the net that this is common and is just a fake alarm from the motherboard, and that dell support have told ppl to just press the FN key while booting and that bypasses the P.O.S.T. and boots like nothing again, some ppl say the just left they're computer there and tried like 2 weeks later and booted like normal. I tried this FN key to bypass the P.O.S.T. but NOTHING happened and my duo is out of warranty already and I don't wanna pay for a fake code or something please somebody help me =(

Leave it to cool down and then switch on. I writing this on a dell laptop that had the 7 beeps and the above treatment. It works!!!

Hi all

Just picked up a Satellite Pro 6100 with a few problems.

It will turn on, the HDD light shows and I can hear drive activity. However, the screen remains blank and a single beep can be heard after about 20secs. The blank screen I understand, it is probably the power board issue that plagues the SP6xxx series. However, the single beep I don't understand.

I know 2 beeps or 3 beeps is memory incompatibility but does anyone know what the single beep denotes ?

A:Satellite Pro 6100 - Single beep code on start

Hi buddy,

To be honest it?s not easy to say what is causing the problem because it could be everything and Satellite Pro 6100 is pretty old notebook.

Have you installed two RAM modules? If yes remove one module. Try always one module only at the same time and test it in RAM slot A and B. Maybe one module is defective or one slot.

If not it seems to be a problem with mainboard or CPU itself. If you can exchange these things, try it yourself because a repair would be too expensive for this oldie I think.
Second hand spare parts you can get on eBay? It?s worth a try! ;)

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I have self built PC: Asus P8z77-v, 32 gb ram, I7, processor, C-drive ssd another ssd and one HDD, DVD, Card reader, Radeon graphics card. OS: Win 8.1 x64 PRO with latest updates. Suddenly it did not start. C-drive ssd.
After post screen is shown win logo is displayed and small
dots are circling few seconds. Then get black screen and restart begins. This restarting is
continuous never ending. No error messages is given. I have removed all usb
(except keyboard and mice). I have also removed VGA card (pcie) and used
integrated graphics. But the problem still persists.
My question is: Can you guess is this motherboard / hw or Windows 8.1 issue.
I have recovery usb-stick and can start windows to "recovery tools" I tried to repair windows starting does not help.
I have run chkdsk to C: . One error found and corrected. I can see all disks.

I have 2 month old image copy of C and e-drive. (Some programs installed to e. But is it possible to check other things before using image copy or trying to repair Win 8.1. (I have Win 8.1 installation dvd).

Can you give hints what I should do?

Same day this episode started I uninstalled Office 2010 and it took quite long time to finish. Maybe this has no connection to the problem, but I mention it anyway.

Hi there laakspen, good thinking removing all "unnecessery" hardware, while you are at it,do remove memory sticks and boot with only one pair each time (I assume you have four by eight gigs sticks) just in case you have a faulty module. If both pairs dont boot,we will take it to another level, safe mode for a starter.

My computer crashed around a week ago without reason. I rebooted my machine and when I did, my CPU fan was going mad and I got a 5 beep error code, which, according to my research is a CPU error. I tried testing my ram(1 stick at a time), I tried reseating all my connections to the motherboard including the GPU(and booting without CPU), I tried clearing the BIOS with the battery. Eventually it booted up fine like nothing happened. Fast forward to today, and it did it again. I just pulled it out of sleep and bam it crashes. On reboot again it got 5 beeps and a mad fan. This time I just waited, left it on.... I eventually heard windows turn on, but my monitors did not do anything. WTF? I turned it off again, waited like 5-10m, and rebooted. It started up as normal, NO changes made to anything. I  don't even?

Hello guys!

I recently built a new gaming desktop, reusing my PSU and HDD/SSD combo from my old build. All three are known good and tested as such. Here is the current parts list:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (NON-X version) with stock AMD branded cooler
Asrock AB350 Pro4 with newest BIOS update
Zotac GTX 960 2GB
EVGA 750 watt semi-modular PSU
Team.. something brand DDR4 memory, 2x4GB (8gb total, installed in slots A2/B2)
OSZ TRION 240G, Toshiba 1TB HDD
Thermaltake Silencer F31 case with 3 fans total plugged into motherboard fan headers (if this matters)

Every once in a while when I try and boot the computer, the motherboard will beep at me 5 times, denoting a CPU error. I have to unplug EVERYTHING from the back panel for it to actually post.

I've tried narrowing down what causes this but it just fails to post with anything plugged in. I have a Corsair K70 non-rgb keyboard, Logitech G400s mouse, ethernet, 3.5mm audio out, and DVI moniter plugged in. Nothing plugged into the front panel.

Once it does boot up, everything is just fine. Browsing about, playing video games, doing work is all just perfect. It'll last another few boot/shutdown cycles and start beeping again. Once that happens, like I said before I have to unplug everything and try again.

What would cause this to happen? I still have all the receipts for these parts as it's only been 2 weeks that I've built this, so if needed I can return/exchange parts for new ones. Under load the GPU temp stays under ... Read more

When I power on my system, all the fans, lights, etc. spin up but I get no display on my computer monitors. I tried step-for-step, the post diagnostics from this tutorial up untill I took out the RAM sticks. That was when I received the post beep code "1long beep and 2 short beeps." After this I tried replacing the CMOS battery with a new one and I still got no signal. I even tried connecting the video cables to the motherboard instead of the GPU. I researched the beep code; "An error was encountered in the video BIOS ROM, or a horizontal retrace failure has been encountered." How can this be fixed?

A:No Display When Powering On Computer. Beep Code [1long,2short]

Where are you sticking the cable to the motherboard and not gpu? Is this the board listed in your specs on here because that has no onboard video on it and you must use a add-in gpu. If your VBIOS is messed up on the 970 it might be rma time.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to assist me, I'll get to the point. But before I begin, I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3. Yesterday I was loading a YouTube video in Firefox (with nothing else open besides AVG Anti-Virus and Advanced SystemCare), but as soon as it finished loading and I was about to play it, the computer completely froze up and ALT+CTRL+DEL wouldn't open the Task Manager.

I manually shut off the computer via the power button and waited five minutes before turning it back on. But after I pressed the power button, The fan & monitor failed to turn on & after five seconds the computer made a loud & continuous beep noise with a faint mechanical ticking, and the CD drive light stopped flashing. I waited a few minutes before turning it off and trying it again multiple times with the exact same results each time.

I'm clueless. I have tried taking out all uneccesary cables such as the Ethernet Cable & USB Connecter Cable, but it has not changed. I have had no virus related problems recently, I run both an AVG and Advanced SystemCare scan daily. I haven't any other ideas and would truly appreciate anyone who is willing to offer advice. Thanks.

A:Computer fails to boot, Monitor doesn`t power on and constant beep follows

Seems your system is signaling an equipment failure at the POST (Power On Self Test). Is the beeping a single continuous beep that never ends, or a series of individual beeps that just keeps going?

Also, knowing the brand and model of the computer, or if it's a generic build, details of the motherboard, video card used, will help in diagnosis.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.

As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

I have been using my computer for a while now... about 4 months. I download torrents, but I don't think that's the problem. When I turn it off, it turns back on kinda like a restart. When I force shut-down, I let up off the button and it comes back on. I can hold the button down and it'll keep turned off, but when I let it off, the same thing happens. I have two power buttons, and I have tried both of them. Same results... But I only noticed it when my computer speakers randomly start beeping while I was watching a show I downloaded off a torrent. I have a main monitor and a 32" TV hooked up to my graphics card through HDMI. I wouldn't think it would have much effect because I do this normally. It just happened, so I haven't had much experience with messing around with it yet. All I do know is my keyboard stopped working all together. It is connected through a USB adapter for the keyboard. I tried moving it to a regular USB port and the beeping stopped, but my keyboard didn't continue to work. I'm pretty good with computers, but this one has me baffled. I have my antivirus up to date, and I even ran a scan. Nothing was found of course. I don't download anything such as porn or anything. Now, what's strange is my keyboard still has the lights turning on, and my mouse, hooked up through a USB port still works. Even my internet is working fine. Well, my computer is done...

So when I tried to start it up, i plugged the keyboard into the same port as my mouse. I thought it might work since the mouse still worked. Well, it didn't. It went into the system recovery and searched for problems. It restarted the computer and loaded after the initial boot screen (del bios F9 boot setup), it just went to a green box and a N with a ~, like what would be in PINATA, right next to it. It fails to boot past that. I guess i have to go get it looked at later. By the way, I'm in Korea working for the stupid army. The barracks have US plugs and everything. Well, props to anyone who can figure this out before I format my hard drive. It is a lot of data, but luckily I have an external hard drive (2Tb) to back up my stuff. I just don't want to have to go through the trouble of formatting the disks(2 x 500Gb).

This is a totally unexpected problem. My computer was totally fine last night. The only new process I did last night was back up my whole C Drive onto an external hard drive. When I got home this afternoon, the computer starts as normal then I get the error message asking me to choose to "Start Windows Normally" or "Last Known Good Configuration". No matter which one I choose, the Windows XP Home Edition screen comes up and begins to load, then my computer just restarts itself and I go through the same process. What's happening???

(obviously I am using a different computer to post this).

Thanks, Andrew.

When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.

when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.
but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again.

The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.

I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.
believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.

I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.

it is a windows 7 x64 machine.

usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..
I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
If so what do you think it might be?
and how can i diagnose the problem when i can't do anything with the machine?

I have posted this note in the hardware forum as part of another thread because there was a similar discussion there but I think the issue is actually software (or maybe BIOS) so I'm posting it here.

I start my computer, I get the windows XP startup animation, it chugs for a bit, the screen goes grey, it chugs some more... and then restarts itself. I set the startup to the cd-rom with a winXP install disk... same thing. I reset the BIOS to the default settings... same thing.
The whole problem started when I was trying to remove a virus following some instructions from a forum. I had booted in safe mode and was using Hijack This to remove a file named csrss.exe or something like that. A message popped up saying that the file was critical to the system and could not be removed. I closed the message, rebooted, and am now in the endless loop described above. Any suggestions from here would be welcome.

It started last month, first my computer would have a hard time turning on. When I push the power button the computer would come on after 10 seconds, whereas if I freshly turn it off, it will come right back on.

When I had removed my graphics card, the computer would have no problems with powering on right away. I thought at first the graphics card was causing the problem, and I had RMA'ed the card and got a brand new card, but the problem is still happening.

The other problem is whenever I start a game that would use my graphics card, the computer would restart it self right when the game got to anything graphical. I have tried many suggestions I have found to try and rule out software, I have even reinstalled Windows, updated my CPU firmware, and the list goes on.

I am at a lost at what could be causing these problems and I would like to know before I spend more money to RMA another part. Thank you for any help you can provide me.

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

A:beep beep..computer doesnt turn on

sure it's only 2 beeps? - nothing listed here for 2 beeps...

Never had any problems until I installed directX 9.0c and continued to restart as it tells you to. When windows first begins to boot(first part of progress bar) the computer just restarts and continues to restart everytime it gets to that same spot of trying to load windows. Tried starting in absolutly every configuration including safe mode and last known good configuration but the same thing happens over and over. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

A:At start of windows boot, computer restarts

Try this.... Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode with a command prompt. If you can get to just the command prompt then type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe This will start the restore wizard and you can restore ot an older restore point (before DX9.0c install)

I have no idea what is wrong with my computer......

Here is the problem:

I am using Windows XP

Last night i used Norton Antivirus and did a full system scan it came up with no viruses. This morning i turned on my computer used AIM (AOL Instant Messanger) and talked to no one. Next I started to play Battlefield 1942 offline. As I am playing the game freezes and simultaniously makes a noise (this noise was not a beep it was like internal parts or something). I waited and the game started to work again about 10 seconds later the same thing happened (it freezing and making the noise) but this time it did not start working again it stayed frozen. So I hit the restart button on the outside of my computer and as its restarting it brings me to a screen that asks me how i would like to start the computer safe mode, last good known configuration, start windows normally, etc. After I have selected my choice the windows xp loading window comes up for about enough time for the loading bar to scroll across twice. For a split second a BLUE SCREEN then comes up and goes away. No matter what options I choose (safe mode, last best known configuration, or start windows normally, etc.) it will always try to load, go to blue screen, and start all over again.

If anything needs to be clarified plese let me know and i will clarify it.

**Please can someone help me it would be greatly appriciated**

My computer will no longer let me access Windows XP or anything. I start the computer, it runs the Del screen, runs the Windows XP screen and then gives me a black screen with the pointer, then starts all over again. Forever. I left it overnight, and I got the blue screen of death.

I am positive this has something to do with a virus, as before this started happening, my Norton said it wasn't protecting me and wouldn't fix when I clicked "repair". I then tried to install the newest Windows updates, and it froze. So I tried to restart, no dice - then had to turn it off manually and am now in this mess.

I tried F8, and tried to restart in safe mode with connections, safe mode, debugging, anything. When I try to run safe mode, I get a pile of code and then it goes into the restart loop. I had problems with viruses before this happened, the Norton told me there was a problem and it had been deleted - but over and over again. Then I briefly saw a DOS like window pop up and dissapear quickly. So I'm certain this is my problem.

I don't have a Windows XP CD to boot from... Am I stuck? Should I take it to Future Shop to get them to restore? I do NOT want to lose my files...

Thank you Tech Support Forums, you're my only hope.

A:Computer restarts forever, and will not start in safe mode

Does this sound like it could be a virus problem? Or should I get admin to move to a different section? Thanks :)

Hey everyone, so recently I put a PCI video card in an older computer, it's an HP a220n. Apparently though, before I put it in my brother was having a problem with the computer rebooting, now if I go into windows normally and click on the profile, the computer reboots.

Thing is, if I go into safe mode, the computer will stay on for hours on end without a hitch, already did a memtest, searched for any viruses or anything that could maybe be causing it, did a chkdsk too. I haven't gotten a resolution yet, next I'm gonna try just using the onboard video again and disable to new card and see what happens. Does anyone have any other ideas of what could be causing this? Thanks!

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

I have an FIC AZ31 motherboard pulled from a working compaq presario, with a 1ghz AMD athlon installed with a heatsink. I added a cd drive, floppy drive, and 8gb hard drive from another desktop that im sure was working. I bought a new RADEON 9000 video card and added that. There is also one DIMM memory in place.

When I turn on the computer, all the fans start blowing and I hear the hard drive make that start up noise, but the monitor light is not turning green, which means the display signaled isn't going from the computer to the monitor (and it is hooked up fine). But my biggest problem is that I hear NO BEEP CODE. One beep would mean normal, but I hear none at all.

Would the video card not being in place completely cause this? I thought if there were a problem would anything, the speaker would beep a certain beep code to indicate the problem. I;m sure the speaker is plugged in correctly to the front panel connector. Is it possible the cpu is dead?

what is going onn????

I would really really appreciate any help as soon as possible.

I recently posted that my comp wouldn't boot. Well, I thought I may have blown the mobo so I changed it (Asus 8NA SLI Deluxe), seeing as I didn't even get beep codes on start-up. However, after installing a new mobo (same one as above) I now get a beep code...one long, two short (I can hear the intake of breath)....

After checking Bios Central and FAQ's here, it appears I have a video adapter error. I've taken the video card out, put it in, sworn at it etc, etc...but still the beeps.

Would it also be the case that my video card is knackered?

I'd appreciate some advice guys n girls before I burn another lump of cash..

500w Mercury PSU
AMD 4000+
2 x 250gb HDD
Asus A8n SLI Deluxe
Nvid 6800 Ultra GFx

Many Thanks...

A:Beep Code..

One way to check for certain if it is you video card that`s fried, is to try it in another system.

However, the beep codes are usually quite accurate. Therefore, if it says your video card is broken, then probably it is.

A friend asked me to help with a problem on his PC.
He's daughter switched the pc on in the morning and left for school before it loaded up.
when she returned home there was a black screen with a flashing curser in top left hand corner.
She turned the computer off at the wall without shutting down.
Now the machine starts up but no beep code.
To Date I've changed the power supply for a know good one.
Changed the cmos battery for a new one.
Removed the ram and started up, no beep code.
I suspect that this indicates a fault on the motherboard.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Ray.

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.
