I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Depending on the file the might not work
unless you talking about converting them

If you can play them on media player

Highlight the File
hold down the shift key
And Right Click

Now use open with
The goto media player
and check the always use box
If you always want to use it to open
this file if it opens this file.

Hi: I was trying to record from a radio station a recording of someone I know who has written a music piece and by mistake I saw urge and downloaded the program. When I realized I did not want this program, I deleted it. There was a message not to do it--that it would block other users from logging onto the computer (Which is a violation of the anti-trust laws) however, I did not listen and deleted the entire program from the program files. Now I cannot get any music from the radio site and it has blocked real player. MSN should be sued again.HELP!!!

Hi,
I captured an AVI file from my DVD player using my video card. My Real Player and Windows Media Player won't place this DVD clip. Someone said I need codecs.
1. what are they?
2. where to get them?
3. how to use that to convert the file to some other format?
4. what formats do Real Player and Windows Media Player support?
4a. Is there another downloadable DVD player that will play the AVI file as is?
5. I also tried to burn this AVI file using Nero but when I tried to drag the file to the proper place, I encountered problems. What could be the issue here?
6. I have been told in another forum that my CD burner can burn a DVD file on DVD media if the format is proper. What format is needed? Is this another codec issue? (Nero says it needs AVI and that is what my file is).
Thanks

Had a lot of trouble after installing Microsoft's DirectX 7a. Could not use DirectDraw, Direct 3D, or any media players: all would result in a page fault (Kernel32.dll @0137:bff7297c).

After over 30 days of troubleshooting, we isolated the conflict to the Vision 95 which has an option of being or not being installed along with the STB Velocity (Virge VX) 3D drivers.

However, BEWARE OF DIRECTX 7a and especially WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!~ I shout because ya need to [email protected]

Windows MEdia Player seems to me to be programmed to seek out any and all other media players (ie. Real Player 7), and mess them up big time. I have a 465 Kb .mpg file. It used to play on Real player BEFORE i put Direct X 7a in. Now, it plays 2.4 seconds of the mpg and quits. Also, a .mov, although it plays in entirety, the sound is ABSOLUTELY RAUCIOUS at all volume settings.

INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, both the mpg and mov play REALLY WELL in Windows Media Player.

I did a Add/Remove on Windows Media Player 6.4, and Real Player started having colored lines appearing in the video.

I did a manual uninstall of WMP (delete msdxm.ocx).

No improvement in Real Player.

Deleted Real Player, defrag/scandisk'ed, rebooted, clean install of RP 7, check out the mpg or mov: NO IMPROVEMENT.

DId a find on anything "mediaplayer2" or Windows Media Player, and deleted.

Real player? No Improvement.

Hi.
I used to play all my mp3 files via Windows Media Player. Those were the good ol' Napster days. Then came Bearshare, for which I downloaded Real Player Basic, and since then it seems, I can't get any audio out of Windows Media Player anymore. It seems to be doing its job and all that happy stuff, you know: opening media libraries, playing mp3 files... only: no audio. Real Player's doing fine, but even my old Napster mp3 files from Napster - heck, even the Bearshare files that work with Real Player! - get zero audio when played in Windows Media. So I figured it's some sort of conflict, you know? That stuff happens. So being the resourceful guy that I am, I tried uninstalling Real Player, (Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs...) but you know what? It's not working. I get a pop up window ("Are you absolutely SURE you wanna lose all yer Real Player stuff? Yes/No" I do "Yes", I get another pop up job ("Uninstalling Real Player") but that's it. You know the blue horizontal bar you get that informs you of how far into the process you are? It doesn't even show up. At this point, nothing goes further. Ctrl/Alt/Delete tells me "Uninstalling Real Player Not Responding". It does that every time. What I want to do is be able to use Windows Media Player again, because I find it more practical than Real Player, only it serves me diddly to have an application running that won't give me the audio it&#... ok, one more quickie, sorry, my comps a mess...gomen nasai...anyway, this has happened before...one day i'll be watching my beloved files in a media player and then I try to watch the same file or listen to an mp3, it doesnt matter what media or player, my computer will just crash and reboot. Again, it's done this before. And it will start working again out of the blue. I've done everything i can think of, uninstalling all the media players, defragging, running antivirus and antispywares, and reinstalling. Doesn't work. Then I will get a random popup saying my computer has recovered from a serious error dealing with my video card. So i guess that that might be the problem but I'm clueless on how to fix it. Again, sorry, but this is driving me crazy.

This may be related to your other post - and, as is the case with the other post, it really can't be fixed until you've eliminated the spyware/virus from your system.

Recently I re-installed XP(probably didn't have to, but that's another story). I finally got my internet connection back and have re-installed my audio files. When I tried to start Musicmatch, I would be prompted that currently there was no music folder. After I "clicked' yes to that, the MM music would come up for a second or 2, as would the MM logo, then everything just quit and nothing. I finally uninstalled MM and re-downloaded it. Now when I try to start it, I get nothing.

I can run my music on Win Media Player, but can't run an entire song without a prompt that Media Player has experienced a problem(of course, when you click that promt, MMP disappears). It also won't play MS format music files.

I also can't get Real One to come up - after about 5 seconds of booting up, I get a prompt that it's encountered an error.

I also can't get Quick Time to come up...I get an "error 2093 message - make sure it's installed in your system."

Again, everything ran fine before reinstalling WXP(from the D drive?). Is there some common driver or something for all these media programs that I might be missing?

Is real player the same thing as windows media player? If they are the same thing which one is better?

A:real player or window media player?

Real Player (aka Real Obnoxious) is not the same as Windows Media Player. There are certain files that will only play on Real Player and certain Files that will only play on Windows Media Player.

If you are going to install Real Player I suggest that you print out the instructions here;
http://home.comcast.net/~leeandheather/tutorials/realone.htm

refer to the instructions when installing Real Player. Although these instructions are not for the current Real Player version there is still enough in the instructions as what to disable, to keep Real Player usable, but stop it from bugging you all the time.

If real player and windows media player do the same thing which one is better?

A:Real Player Or Window Media Player

RealPlayer can play most of the formats that WMP can, plus some of it's own (ie formats created by the RealPlayer developer) which WMP can't play.

However, although RealPlayer plays more formats and you need it for some websites which stream audi/video content only in RealPlayer's native formats, It can be somewhat of annoyance when it's installed -- always popping up nag-screens to buy the 'pro' version etc. Something which WMP never does.

In essence, if you want all video and audio formats covered, you need them both. My policy is to manage with Windows Media Player. I just avoid using websites with video/audio content that need RealPlayer.

Welcome to TSG Kcop!

Sometimes the designer of the site will specify that it will use the WMP rather than RP. In that case there isn't much you can do about it.

If you have a program that will play on either and you want RP to be your default, then:

Left click on the file once
Press and hold the SHIFT key while right-clicking on it.

Select "Open With" from the list.
Select Real Player from the list.
Check the little box that says "always use this program" when opeing this type of file.
Good luck!

I was trying to play one of my DVDs on my laptop yesterday and I got this pop up that said
"Windows Media has encountered a problem and need to close. We are sorry for the inconveniences"
I was like WTF ?? !! So I tried opening it with Real Player and got the same answer. I removed and re-installed Windows Media player but that didn't help either.

Following is the error signature after the error message:

AppName: realplay.exe AppVer: 6.0.12.1483 ModName: quartz.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2749 Offset: 0003fa8eproblem and we need to close.

The only thing I can think of that may have contributed to this is that couple days ago, I was removing some programs via "Add or Remove programs" to clean up some disk space. I may have deleted some software/programs that have to do with being able to play movies using either Windows or Real player.

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

A:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless guys! Take care!

OS: Vista 32 bit

What are the filetypes for those Video files? Maybe it's a Codec problem.

ok (as you my know by know i rarther hate windows media player)

well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?

A:Solved: Stop Windows Media Player Automaticly ading media files to libary

In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.

In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.

Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.

Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.

WMP 11 and Real Player won't play sound with the DVD playback on my friends computer.

I've done tons of troubleshooting and reboots.

I've adjusted the sound drivers, and even redownloaded it direct from the manufacturer.

It only happens when I play DVD's.

CD's play fine. The system sounds play perfectly, so I know its a problem with the two programs.

I'm at my wits end on this...

btw... the computer is a Dell Inspiron 9300, runs Windows XP 2000 Professional, Intel Centrino Processor

any ideas?

I'm at my wits end.

I put together a capable gaming pc about a month ago with a bunch of new components and some cannibalized older components.

I installed all of the drivers from the motherboard cd. I have a radeon x1300 vid card. I'm running windows xp home ed. I've installed about every codec and plugin under the sun. I've troubleshot my load with regard to Windows itself.

I cannot play Windows Media Audio/Video files for the life of me.

I do get audio, but the video is all hyper-colored like looking at scrambled porn.

It doesn't matter if I download the video or watch it in a browser (any browser). It doesn't matter if I open up the DLed video in real player, Windows Media player or Generic DIVX player #458973: it still comes out all scrambled and in crazy moon-man rainbow colors.

I have no problem playing any other type of windows media player file. Quicktime works fine as well.

Please help.

A:Windows Media Player won't properly play Windows Media Audio/Video files

Well standard Window's media files should play without the need for any additional codecs.

Maybe check the forums of your vid card for some answers.

I am running windows 98se. I dont like having to keep a realplayer window open at all times, and I want to be able to minimise it to a toolbar just like Xp can with WMP. If not sometrhing like that, then is there something like the Kazaa player where it plays while closed down to the icon in the toolbar?

thanks

btw, I have objectbar, if i can use an objectbar skin...
