Muffled audio on Youtube/other streaming sites

Q: Muffled audio on Youtube/other streaming sites

This has been a persistent issue-- years ago, I experienced this on my Windows 7 pc (which I resolved years ago and no longer remember how I did it). Last night when I updated to Windows 10, the muffle came back happened again.

The issue is that only the audio from *streaming video* when paying through my speakers (not my Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma headphones) comes through muffled and distorted. Audio from streaming audio is fine through the headphones, and system sounds play back fine.

I have a Sound Blaster Recon3d Xfinity Pro card.

I can't imagine this isn't a driver issue, but I uninstalled the Recon3D driver and allowed Windows 10 to do an auto-reinstall, and the problem persists.

Solutions online discuss Adobe flash, but if Adobe flash were the issue I'd be experiencing the same problem while listening through headphones. By process of elimination it seems to be a problem with the Recon3D drivers.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Perhaps instead of allowing Win10 to install the driver, download and install it from here.

I guess the problem might has to do something with the Flash player
Latest Version of Adobe Flash Player here you could find the latest flash player try to download the latest flash player. Also you could try this KB

Hi, my problem is that when I am on Youtube or Ustream, it always seems to lag and keeps buffering. This does not happen all the time tho. I also have this problem where it will just stop mid stream and then on the top on my screen it says "Firefox is not responding" and this is what gets me, the screen will flash stuff I've already looked at or videos I have tried playing earlier on....... I hope this explains my problem enough....

I am having a problem on streaming video sites. When I open a video it will load the 1st minute or 2 of the video (this loads as fast as ever) but the remainder of the video never loads at all. If I move the slider on past the point where it stopped it will load another minute or two, but never the whole video at once.

I have tried using both Firefox and Internet Explorer, I have cleared my cache, ran SuperAntiSpyware, did a disk cleanup and a system restore but still the problem persists. I also called my ISP and they said there is no problem at their end. Regular downloads run fine. Any ideas?

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sounds exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago for no apparent reason. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound relatively louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out... Read more

So I've had this problem for a while now, with multiple headsets.
If I'm say, listening to music and on teamspeak or skype at the same time, the audio will kind of muffle, cut out the one ear or the other, and just generally go a little funny. Also sometimes when streaming with xsplit.
I have a Lenovo G560, and the headset I'm currently using is Steelseries Sibera V2, plugged into the audio and mic jacks.
If I have the microphone disabled via sound, the issue still occurs
I don't have this issue with USB headsets.

The devices for the audio are:
Conextant SmartAudio HD (driver: 8.54.4.51)
Intel(R) Display Audio (driver: 6.14.0.3074)

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

Please help! I've had this issue for months and it's frustrating me to no end.

Hello, my friend recently got a new computer and ever since he got it he has been getting an annoying problem with recording audio. His old computer was about 4 years old and had Realtek AC,97.But now his new computer will not work on anything other than Realtek High Definition Drivers. Everything was very loud and distorted, something like this: . But a little less loud...He was able to fix it but now all he gets is an annoying muffled audio track every time he records. He messed around with settings for about 2 weeks, He has also tried it with both Fraps and xFire with same results. I have had this Inspiron 15 7559 laptop for over a year now and the audio has been fine, besides the odd crackle or pop here and there. However, after a Windows update, the audio has since become "muffled" whenever I try to watch youtube or movies, listen to spotify, or play any games. It's like the sound is very distant or like it was being played underwater, if that makes any sense. From what I can tell, Windows notification sounds appear to be unaffected. Audio works fine when I use headphones.
I have seen frequent directions on this forum to open the Device Manager and expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" section, then right clicking on "Realtek High Definition Audio". But I do not see that present there, instead I see "Intel Display Audio", "NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM), and "Realtek Audio" (unless this one qualifies?).
I am not sure whether I have made things more difficult trying other solutions posted on this forum and other troubleshooting forums, which has resulted in the Realtek High Definition Audio" disappearing or something.
In any case, I'm at my wits end here and would greatly appreciate any directions you can give me to find a solution to this problem.

My system specs are on my profile.

My integrated audio is: Realtek ALC898

I have used both the R2.71 driver from Realtek directly and Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from MSI both are the latest drivers available for Windows 8 64bit.

When playing music from any media player WMP, VLC, Winamp, etc.. The vocals are very muffled and the bass is way too high.

I have no options of lowering the bass. Changing the Equalizer in the Realtek HD Audio Manager to Treble helps out a little making vocals a tad clearer and dropping the bass.

My speaker system is a Altec Lansing 2.1 external speaker set using auxiliary.

I did not have these issues on Windows 7 64bit. Only experienced the problem on Windows 8.

Any suggestions or ideas?? I am running out of hope! I would prefer not to have to downgrade or get a dedicated sound card.

A:Audio Muffled & Bass too High

Win 8 uses the same drivers as Win 7 and should work the same.

What is "Altec Lansing 2.1 external speaker set using auxiliary"? You should be connecting the speaker system to the GREEN speaker jack only.

Do you have any Sound Effects enabled (in the RealTek HD Audio Manager)? Disable any if you do.

Did you install the Intel motherboard chipset drivers? The drivers need installed for proper operation, as one of the main things the drivers do is properly identify all the devices on the motherboard.

I've checked the levels, and checked for conflicts, and nothing seems to be wrong. Aside from the system sounds, known wav files have the same very very low volume.

Using XP SP3, realtek 97. When I use the HRTF demo under the audio configuration, everything sounds fine. Just not sure why if all the levels are good, why things don't work.

This has been a problem for me for a few months now, but it's just getting unbearable.

So, here's the situation:Oftentimes, my headphones give out muffled audio. It makes it virtually impossible to make out human speech, and just generally isn't very good. In the past, I could fix this by adjusting the headphone jack somewhat, but over time I've had to do it more violently and I'm concerned at this point that I'll harm the computer if I continue doing it. Now, whenever it happens, I have to wiggle the jack around with a decent amount of force to get it to work properly.

I'm not particularly good with computer hardware, so I'm not entirely sure what the exact issue could be. If you need any more information, just ask. I'd be happy to provide it. Any help is appreciated.

Right click on the speaker icon on the lower right part of your screen (sorry, can't remember the English name for that) and choose "Playback Devices", so you'll get to the Sound menu. Click on the Communications tab. There you'll find a set of options to "When windows detects communication activity:"
Choose "Do nothing".

A:Youtube HD video streaming lag

this is usually caused by a slow internet connection. You can start the download and stop the playback while it continues to download (the gray area ahead of the red line playback. Or you can restart the video if it bogs down. Once the gray line is more then half way downloaded you can start the playback. Test your internet connection at speedtest

Hi all

I've recently started having a problem with Youtbe videos freezing. This is not the problem that many have (related to internet speeds) when a video pauses and the little circle appears while it buffers.

What happens is the videos come to a sudden stop at a certain point. It will immediately restart from an earlier point but when it reaches that exact same point will stop again and won't go further. If I push the time marker past that point it will just revert to the point where it stopped and freeze again. About half of the videos I play have started to freeze in this manner. Sometimes if I go to play another video and go back the affected video will play normally.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Occasionally, I like to check out videos on Google, YouTube and other streaming video sites. Almost consistently, they tend to "freeze" after a few minutes. They NEVER resume. After rebooting pc, it may play a minute more, but that's it.

I'm running a customized 2400AMD processor set at 1800, 1 GB DDR RAM, 128 Radion Vid, (2x) 7200 HD's with plenty room on a well maintained pc. I have High Speed cable running at over 3 MBits/sec. During the "freeze" times, I can open another search engine and there's no lag on searching nor downloads. At the same time, I can run Adobe PS or any other RAM and processor using program and still no lag. I tested it to see if any other function on my pc slowed down by running several apps at once during the "freeze" and everything was fine. Still, even though I start with NOTHING running outside my basic OS, virus scan and "tuned" Sygate firewall, I can't watch more than a few minutes of Google vid, You Tube or other streaming video without it freezing.

My ie temp file is set to over 1500 MB. I'm actually typing this with a streaming video frozen on another search engine. I can even watch a movie and send emails at the same time w/o lag at the same time streaming vid is frozen. NOTHING else lags. Not even my ie provider can figure this out.

This is frustrating. Any ideas?

Greetings.

I am currently on a fiber cable, with speeds up to 100mbit. Most stuff I download via torrent see speeds above 2 mb/sec.
However, when I try to stream via youtube or similar services or download files via http - this is extremely slow.
I even tried to set my connection to low (300kb/s) on a page, and the stream needed 10 sec to start, and after that it played for 3 seconds before stopping and using 10+ seconds to load another 1 (!) second - before continuing to load. And so it goes.

I have tried updating my drivers, changing browsers, deleting all content from all browsers etc. Browsing itself is lightning fast, and I have turned off all my firewalls and anti-virus programs. Performance has never been an issue, the browser is using 5% cpu while attempting to stream.

I am obviously at a loss here. I have googled 'slow streaming' and looked at tips and tricks everywhere, but nothing seems to work. I know that streaming used to run perfectly before, and I can not think of anything that could have changed it.
Any insight you could have would be much appreciated.

Hi,

My work computer has been very slow for some time now. It's running Windows XP SP3 on an Intel P4 2.4 GHz with 1.5 GB of RAM (I went up from 768 MB to 1 GB, then to 1.5 GB hoping it would solve some of my issues, but it didn't). It also has an NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX400, so it's not even running on an integrated graphics card. It is extremely slow to start-up (despite getting rid of startup entries), and YouTube videos are always choppy. SiriusXM streaming radio also skips (but strangely enough, Spotify doesn't). Temperatures are in normal ranges so it doesn't seem to be overheating.

I know this system is somewhat ancient, but it should be able to handle the basic functions (internet browsing and work applications) I throw at it. I've cleaned thoroughly with CCleaner and MalwareBytes. I even got rid of Norton and installed Avast, since I know Norton is a huge resource hog. I've tried to stop a lot of unnecessary services, but if there is anything else I've missed, please let me know. This is my new HijackThis log:

i have around 70 processes that begin at start up. i only use the laptop for web browsing/streaming video/dvds. which ones can i safely disable at start up? also, streaming video like youtube will not load or buffers even though im in a covered area with verizon wireless broadband! HELP!

A:what processes can i disable at start up? youtube streaming problems

Media players, office programs, all Adobe stuff, update checkers -- almost everything except your required security programs.

Why not just try a "clean boot" as a test >>

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "load startup items" on the general page.
Now restart and test the issue at hand

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, UNcheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the startup tab as well.

Get the idea? You want to isolate the problem to a specific startup if possible.

Note: if you already have items unchecked under msconfig > startups and are in “selective” startup mode – you should note what these are before beginning. They will need to be de-selected again.

Hello Bleeping comp.
I have a small Acer notebook which has been running fine up until this point.
Lately i have been having trouble using video streams from sites like gametrailers and youtube
the videos eventually load slower than usual but the sound is choppy as is the video, i can hear the the audio skipping very slightly.
Also the sound files (the opening startup sound windows makes, or the pop up error message sound) have been skipping and sound very choppy.

I haven't gotten any important error messages lately either.
If it helps i run VIPRE Antivirus software but it hasn't found anything that could be causing this.
Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: i forgot to say that all other parts of my laptop are running smoothly which is why the problem is so confusion to me

A:Youtube, video streaming problems, slow computer

When you say small Acer is it an Aspire One with SSD? If so I found a small program that makes it run as fast as my tower, it has no issues with streaming video or for that matter nothing else!

G'day.

I'm currently having a lot of trouble here viewing streaming videos off youtube and dailymotion style sites.

Youtube is less of an issue. the videos load. but rather slowly.

Daily motion however i have problems with as the videos some times do not load at all. or if they do like youtube they are VERY choppy.

another thing i noticed was with youtube the progress bar does not move accross, it just remains grey.. then when the video has finished (or its gotten part way and given up) it shows the bar as full.

Now i was wondering if anyone had any ideas why this might be. I just reformated my computer (problem was occuring before i did it, and now after) i have a fair decent internet connectiong (1500kbps) and these are videos that i can pretty much stream, or watch with a short amount of time on a 512kbps account at my fathers house..

thanks heaps for any advice

Check the settings in the browser...especially the security settings . And the windows security settings in xp.

When I live steam video in Windows 8/Chrome, using Adobe Flash, the audio portion is silenced each time I receive an audio prompt from my system. When I say "audio prompt" I mean a beep that I believe provides some sort of notification. The video continues, but all sound disappears for a few minutes when it then reappears. I have a dual boot system. The problem only exists in Windows 8. In Windows 7 I do not have this problem. My Chrome is fully updated, which means, I believe, that my Adobe Flash is also current. I disabled (or at least attempted to disable) audio alerts in Windows 8 and in Outlook 2007 and GMail (my email clients), but the audio alerts persist as do the disruptions of Java Live streaming audio. Any ideas or suggestions for fixing this problem - either by disabling all audio prompts or solving the problem of sound disruption in Java Live Streaming.

Just want to ask a question: Im an anime addict and I watch anime videos almost everyday. My question is, are they safe? I ask this because almost all of the anime streaming websites I go to give a lot of pop up ads but thank God that it isnt one of those "install this because your pc is in danger" kind of ads. I hope someone answers my query.

Hello,

For a while now I have had many BSOD over the past few months, but have never really looked into really solving them.

Partly because I have gotten to use to them happening and that with a Solid state drive I can reboot in little to no time.

Some computer specs:

-Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

-Intel i5 2500K OC'd to 4.5 Ghz @ 1.272V (done all the stress testing over 8 hours and no errors or temp issues) Cooler: Coolermaster 212 Hyper Evo.

-OCZ solid state 480 GB HD for Windows 7+ applications, and 1TB + 2TB HDD for storage .

-AMD ATI Radeon 7870 HD, up-to-date drivers.

-Asus P8Z 68-V LX Motherboard.

-Dual monitor setup, HDMI + Vga, both 21.5".

When do the BSOD most occur?

I have noticed that BSODs mostly occurs when I'm:

- Playing League of Legends,
- Having multiple windows of Chrome open with Twitch streams on one side, and YouTube videos on the other.
- And when I'm using Open Broadcaster Software for streaming. Running many applications and windows for mic audio, twitch notifications etc.

Thanks.

The DMP is corrupt so i cant say much, however here is somethings to try as your bugcheck is a 0x124:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.

Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.

2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled. If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.

3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware. It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.

4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions. Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.

5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "false positive" 0x124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug). At the time of writing, Windows 7 is not known to suffer ... Read more

Hi..How do I watch youtube video streaming without massive downloading time? Is there a way?? I watch shows on youtube..legally of course..which run about 45 min to 1 hour each episode (which all have subtitles as they are in a foreign language)... and my monthy data usage limit is greatly exceeded!! I have already 100 GB usage
(which I share with my family but I'm the culprit downloader!) in my current contract (windows 7, IE 8) and I struggle at the end of each month. I still have six months on my contract to opt to a bigger plan. Anyone know how I can watch and not incur massive downloading bytes? Thanking you in advance

you need a bigger plan

make sure you are not opting for any HD ( high definition ) content and only SD (standard definition) - HD uses a lotmore download bandwidth

Hi, recently I have been suffering system instability issues but cannot for the life of me figure out which driver is causing the problem, or if it is indeed hardware related.
I have stresstested my CPU with Prime95, my GPU with various benchmarks and have run memtest successfully. This is why I am leaning more towards the driver issues.
My Dumps and specs should be included in the zip. Help would be much appreciated.

Hello, timpelplomp and welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, I don't expect this to be a quick fix, but we will start to work on it. These are your dumps. Notice different error codes and different causes. That is many times indicative of memory problems, and one of them even blamed corrupted memory.

I have a brand new Asus Zenbook Flip (UX360CA). I've noticed that whenever I start to stream iTunes or Hulu and sometimes YouTube I get a few minutes of okay and then suddenly spinning circles. This is usually when the laptop is relatively close to the wifi. The home wifi network goes from 28Megabit to almost nothing. And will STAY that way until I shut the PC off. And sometimes the network stays broken until I unplug/replug router and wifi station.

Here's the checklist of things to save y'all from asking such questions --

1. I can stream on my Mac without this happening. Also on my Android phone. And AppleTV.
1a. My wife has the exact same laptop. We will bring home and see if the same thing happens on hers. If YES then we know it's likely the Asus install/setup. If NO then it's something I specifically did.
2. It's not a time of day or Charter Communications issue. I can crash my network anytime I wish by streaming as described.
3. I wondered if it was Flash. So I turned it off. No change. And iTunes doesn't use Flash.
4. I'm running the latest of everything.
5. Defender/Malwarebytes clean

I'm considering a restore. I guess I'll try that and see if anything changes.
