Host Adapter hard reset timeout?

Q: Host Adapter hard reset timeout?

Appreciate some assistance.

Was changing BIOS settings (PnP/PCI Configuration) while installing a modem (IRQ 3 was set to Legacy/ISA), and enabled "Reset Configuration Data". What in the heck possessed me to do that, do not know. Saved changes, exited BIOS, and after
that, got the following message on the screen:
"Host adapter hard reset timeout.
BIOS not installed.
Unable to enable/disable host adapter shadow RAM."

Have a SCSI hd connected to an Adaptec Host Adapter (1540CF/1542CF). Tried Control>A to access the BIOS of the AHA, but NOTHING happened. Needless to say, cannot access the SCSI drive C:/

Did I fry the goose on this one? Needless to say, need some help.

Preferred Solution: Host Adapter hard reset timeout?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:BSOD attempt to reset the display adapter timeout

Hi -

The error you are describing is a Video TDR timeout. There are 2 bugchecks associated:

0x116 = driver was unable to reset within 30 secs; BSOD ensued
0x117 = same as 0x116, except the driver did ultimately reset. This is called a "Live Kernel Event".

See if updating your video drivers helps.

A:Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed!

You are correct to update your video driver:

Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys (, 9,40 MB (9.853.248 bytes), 14.07.2009 00:09)

Are you saying you are not able to update the driver? Are you able to remove the driver? If so, you can use Guru3D to remove traces of NVidia, then reinstall video driver.

Guru3D - removes leftover traces of drivers for NVIDIA (Display and Chipset), ATI (Display), Creative (Sound) Realtek (Sound), Ageia (PhysX) and Microsoft (Mouse)

If this is not the case, let us know.
You should also update your Realtec network driver:
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\rt86win7.sys (7.2.1125.2008, 136,50 KB (139.776 bytes), 10.06.2009 23:18)

My system always runned pretty smooth, running BF4 on high setting with no problem, but last week my computer got pretty hot playing Borderland 2 and crashed on a BSoD. Now every time I start the game after 5 or 10 min playing I crash on the same BSoD : Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.

I run a Toshiba laptop Qosmio X870 equipped with a Geforce GTX 670M.

-I've tried several drivers roll-back as well as a re-install of the latest version : 337.88. Always the same crash, on some older version of drivers the crash only occurs quickly.
-I've tried re-installing windows, same result, crash after 5 to 10 min.
I've tried the windows hotfix for this problem : microsoft fix it 50848 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946
But still got the same crash, the game only freeze a bit longer before I got the BSoD

I run on directx 11 version and my windows 7 Home premium 64bit is up to date

I haven't tried any other game then borderland 2, but before the overheat it was running smoothly. The system is running good and I'm not overheating when a crash occurs (at least not my CPU cause it's the only one I monitors) and my fan don't even run at max speed. No lag in game, everything is normal before a crash.

I think the heat may have damage my GPU, but I wonder if here is any way to test it, or if any other thing I should try before I go on with a GPU replacement.

I'm experiencing BSID issues apparently due to graphic card.

Computer:vaio vgn-fw51mf laptop

graphic card:

The issues started with computer bugs when Alt-tabbing, but one day I got a "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout" bluescreen and since then the only way to make the computer run properly is to disable the graphic card driver from the control pannel.

The bluescreen does not allways appear, but the screen frequently goes black just right after the windows screen, or sometimes windows starts but I immediately get continuous ?Display driver stopped responding and has recovered? errors.

Initially I thought that it was a hard drive issue, as I've been running the computer several months with an almost full hard drive, but now that I freed some HD space (205 free GB out of 454 GB) the problem persist.

I tried to unistall my drivers and update them: any results. I hope not have a hardware issue!

Installing an Adaptec AHA-150X/1510/152X SCSI Host Adapter and everything is working fine except that everytime I reboot i get the following error: "Host Adapter Diagnostic Error press F1 to boot" right after the memory count. This isn't a major problem but I would like it to boot up without having to press F1. The scanner that uses the card works just great, and there are no other noticeable problems. What am I missing here?

A:SCSI Host Adapter problems

Well, that usually means that there is some kind of memory conflict with the card.

Maybe with a sound card or modem you have installed... can you try taking out all cards but video and the SCSI? See if the problem goes away? You don't need to let it go into Windows of course - the error happens long before that.

What network adapter settings mean vms can communicate with each other but not with host? Thanks
Vmware Workstation 10

A:Network adapter settings to isolate vm from host

Hi there

Some sort of Switch / subnet probably required here with firewall settings also perhaps to block communications from the subnet.

I think this is more of a Networking issue than a VM one itself. The other question - do you still want the HOST to have access to the Internet.

I've only done this where I've had a SINGLE VM which needed Internet access for a "Dodgy site" --was testing a Virus and so I attached the NIC physically to the VM and disabled networking on the HOST while I was testing.

However if you need Internet and LAN access on the HOST and you have more than one VM running concurrently I should ask the Network gurus as this is outside my area of expertise. I suspect also you might need two Physical NIC's for this - one for the Host and one for the subnet your VM's are on - but I can't give any more help than that.

Try asking @Kari -- I'm sure he's done things like that but he uses HYPER-V which is also a good system if you have W10 pro or Enterprise.

I have gone through several tech forums but unable to find answer for it. Though in multiple forums one statement was common that Windows will strip the VLAN information when packet received/transmits through network adapter.

I am using Windows XP. I recently installed a new modem. The modem works beautifully, but I cannot print. When I look at the device manager I notice that the Adaptec AHA-1502 SCSI Host Adapter is using IRQ 10 and I/O Range 0140-0154. THe Generic 56K HCF Data Fax Modem is also using IRQ 10 I/O Range EC00-EC07 and Memory Range E9000000 - E900FFFF. There is a check mark on both property boxes for use automatic settings. No Conflicts are listed in the conflicting device list for the modem, but the conflicting device list for the SCSI host adapter lists these conflicts:
Interrupt Request 10 used by: Generic 56k HCF Data Fax Modem
Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller.
The Use automatic check box is checked but grayed out in the property box for the modem, but is checked and not grayed out in the property box for the SCSI host adapter. Any suggestions?

A:Modem Conflicts with SCSI Host Adapter

If it were mine I would go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and delete all references to a modem.

Shut down and move your modem to PCI #3 or the third slot down from the AGP slot)

Boot up and enter BIOS setup menu.....when you get there, then go to the PnP area and DISABLE it if you are using WinXP. (If it were Win98, then you would enable it)

Save and Exit and reboot

When it boots, add the latest and best drivers from the manufacturer's website for the modem.

That should solve your problem.

Hey guys, quick noob question here..

I'm trying to hook up a new wireless network in my house and bought a new N 300mbps router and an upgraded wireless adapter.

When setting up the router, does it need to be hard connected to a host PC or can it just be connected to the modem only for the network to operate?
I want the modem and router to be off in another room while i connect to it via my new wireless network adapter on my PC. Does the network (router/modem) need to be connected to a host PC to work properly? If this is the case, then i just bought a new network adapter for no reason....

Thanks for any assistance.

A:Wireless adapter, router- is host computer required??

Router goes to modem. That's all you need. The only time a hard-wired connection is handy is when you want to change the router's settings or update its firmware, but otherwise it needs to be connected to nothing else.

I installed a PCI firewire card that i ordered, and my computer doesnt boot. It makes a couple of beeping noises (more than usual) and the computer just doesnt boot. I think it might be an IRQ conflict between the PCI firewire card and my new AGP graphics card, because my monitor doesn't work whenever the firewire card is in. These are some devices in my PCI slots: sound card, modem card, and ethernet adapter. Here are the specs: 500 MHz PC, pentiumIII, 512MB SDRAM, Windows XP Pro.

Is there a way I can install my PCI firewire card and make the computer boot? Thanks in advance for any advice.

A:Installed PCI 1394 Firewire Host Adapter, computer doesnt boot

Look up the beep codes in your motherboards manual and see what they mean exactly. It can be something as simple as a loose keyboard cable.

You could also try putting the controller in another PCI slot. The first and the last PCI slots are not the best ones to use since usually those share resources with other motherboard devices.

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, so I'll start here.
I have an HP Envy 17 j013cl, I am running Windows 8 (possibly 8.1), and the adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230.
My dear husband decided to mess with my computer. I have decided not to divorce him for this, but it was tempting. He uninstalled a Windows update because it was keeping him from playing some game. No, he did not create a restore point. Ever since then, I have had trouble with my wireless adapter. I have to reset it every half-hour or so. I've tried installing and running HP's diagnostics software; it only tells me, over and over again, that it has reset the adapter. It also says, "the default gateway is not available," and fixes it (temporarily).
I did a google search, which hinted that it could be a driver issue. So I traipsed over to Intel and downloaded and installed the latest driver. This has increased the time that I have between resets by about 10 minutes, but hasn't solved the underlying issue. Whatever the problem is, it sometimes discombobulates the computer to the point that it can't find the adapter, or any problems, and I have to restart it completely.
Now the obvious thing to do here would be to reinstall the update. But, when I installed the HP Support Assistant, all the updates that I could see disappeared, and now there are no updates to be found. So, no joy there. (Besides, I kinda wanna play the old games, too.) I am n... Read more

Netgear genie reports no internet access (can't get on line, as well), but the desktop icon shows continual connection. I have done a million power cycles, reset everything I can think of and researched what could be wrong with my wireless adapter. There was a very old thread on here titled "Connection issues, randomly stop connecting" and I found that I have the EXACT issue as that post - this post never said if the issue was solved. I am wondering how telephone line issues could be interfering, if this will help, and if I need to order a repair for that??? Please help!

This was the original thread that I found:

A:Continuously have to reset wireless adapter

Is this the only PC that disconnects - do other devices connected work OK - if so how are they connected to the router - wireless or wired

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.
please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

I have win 8.1 running on a home wi-fi using a TP Link 150Mbs wireless N adapter. After getting a new router recently (Orange livebox) I happened to run a diagnostics on the connection using the in built windows software. It said there was a problem and reset the adapter. I did not know of any issue as the connection worked fine.

A few days later I ran it again with the same result.

Although it works fine, I am left wondering why it needs to keep resetting. This can happen if I run another test immediately after running a test

A:Computer needs to reset wireless adapter

whats the actual problem?
if its working fine

I did not know of any issue as the connection worked fine.

dont run the software diagnostics

I'm not a big fan of the "Troubleshooting" options for network connections in W7 because, simply, they kinda suck.

Back in XP, when your network went down, due to lost power, or having to reset your router or modem, it was simple enough to tell it to repair, which would always reset the network adapter, to force a fresh connection, but I can't seem to find a way to just reset the network adapter. Did they take this feature out when they added the troubleshooting tool?

Honestly, they troubleshooting tool can take forever to "find the problem," even when I already know what's wrong and that a simple reset will solve the problem, not to mention sometimes it just decides that it's just not even going to try to reset the adapter.

I know I can always disable and enable the connection, but it's not the same right click the icon in the tray and select repair that it used to be. It gets annoying having to jump through hoops to do something that used to be two simple clicks, mostly trying to fix other people's computers.

A:Force Reset Network Adapter?

Anyone able to answer this? I have the exact same problem. Happens within an hour of starting my computer and I have to use Win Network Diag, which checks EVERYTHING, saving the actual problem (reset network adapter) until last- which then solves the issue.

IS there any way to just force a network reset? I used to just unplug my USB network adapter and plug it back in, but it eventually screwed up my modem IP (long story) so I can't do that anymore.

I am running win7 x64 ultimate. I set a MAC address in the bios and somehow Windows has saved it somewhere. I have deleted the device in device manager and when it was redetected it was still there. I have reset the bios to defaults but when I run 'ipconfig /all' the MAC is still there. How can I get rid of it?

A:How can I delete/reset MAC of network adapter?

Your problem is not addressed clearly.Atleast to me it is not clear.

First, it is for the first time I am hearing the Mac address being set in the BIOS. Can you explain how was it set in the BIOS?

Second, what exactly is the device? Name/manufacturer/Model

Third, why do you want to change/reset the Mac Address? ( Yep, it may be possible to reset the Mac Address and I had discussed this matter with NoelDP long back on a different context but I would like to know why you want to change/reset it. What exactly is your problem that necessitates such a change?)

When I log on to my ISP; att.net I sometimes get; detecting proxy setting>reset local area connection adapter>not a valid IP configuration, then the "fixit" dialogue box pops up and fixes the problem after about 3 minutes. This is getting annoying and only does it about 20% of the time. I have upgraded to their latest driver but this problem never changes.

Hello every one,

I've been having a long term problem that has basically plagued my computer since I've built it. Yet the issue manifests itself in different ways through out the years.

The issue is. At certain, seemingly random points, my computer screen freezes with no BSOD. Computer is still running with fans going. No error message. Sound stops. Mouse is not responsive on screen. Nothing works. Screen is frozen on the last picture. A holding down of the power button for a hard reset is the only way to recover.

Through out the years since 2011 I've changed graphics cards and RAM chips in order to try and solve this problem. I've found that the RAM had no effect on the issue, but the graphics cards perhaps did.

Back in 2011, I had constant random freezing at random intervals during the days of the week whilst basically doing any thing. An SLI set up of two Geforce 9800s. I finally discarded one of the graphics cards to only run one and that seemingly fixed most random freezing issues for some time. Though it did happen on some rare occasion that I could not explain.

How ever. In 2014 I upgraded my graphics card to a GeForce GTX 670 OC and found that issues immediately arose again. I could not activity render videos in Adobe Premiere Elements 8 whilst working on the video editing software with out a hard freeze. Basically unable to render videos in real-time whilst working on them any more.

More issues started occurring later with this same card. When watching Youtube ... Read more

Hi all
I have this particular problem which showed at the same time when I installed Norton Ghost 14.0.
Last night I bough WD 1TB My Book external hard drive and decided to do a back up.
Funny thing was that I was getting an error that NG has lost connection to a server?
and could not complete a back up. Tried few times and same error appeared. Hard drive was in FAT32 partition so this morning I though I will reformat that drive to NTFS (took 11 hours) and to try again.
This time I did not receive any errors as in lost connection to a server but my internet connection was lost. So Vista Ultimate has detected a problem and reset my network driver (Realtek).
This was not happening before. Coincidence?Maybe but I don't believe it is.
Is there an option to be selected not to switch internet or something?
Running Vista Ultimate 64, Q6600 4Gb Ram dual boot ( 2HD XP and Vista)

anyone else experienced similar? Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to fix it?

I had this problem for a while and thought it was due to the network adapter, got a different one (USB external wifi adapter) and problem persists.

Adobe flash player(youtube, ted talks etc) is notorious for causing this. I would try to watch a video and not that it is very slow to open, it buffers about 10sec and then stops, I usually loose all connectivity at this point and sometimes it will recover but usually I need to either switch or reset network adapter, then its very fast till it happens again.

I also should mention that I tried updating that flash player multiple times but it always prompts me before a content loads due to it being outdated... there is never error during update it states it is updated, so unless adobe releases updates every few hours there is something f%^&y going on

64bit Win 7 SP1
i7 3770k
16gb ram
intel z77 by asrock
ssd drive

1- Qualcomm Atheros AR9285
2- Realteck RTL8187 USB 2.0 (802.11b/g 54Mbps)

I tried using alternative browser (i use FF) but it is even slower, more DCs. I would not like to use Chrome however and i do not have it installed.

any help is greatly appreciated as I am getting really frustrated with this.

A:Losing connectivity, need to frequently reset network adapter.

Hi Royroy,
I'm another car mechanic,
Its possible that this is related to your earlier thread.
Now that adapter is from a laptop, if its installed in your desktop, according to your specs, it might be that its pulling the wrong voltage, and shutting down to protect itself.
However that does not apply to the Realtek device.
There are various fix's that appear on the net
Dissable ipv6
Change the security setting to WPA2
Change the current channel, use auto if possible.
Review the settings in the driver Advanced options,
Then the obvious
Update wifi drivers and Bios

Flash player update is being stopped by IE or group policy settings

Suggest you also run sfc /scannow

I am having an issue with my wireless connection on one of my computers. We run a total of 5 computers on my wireless network and only have the problem on one. After it has been sitting for a while, (usually overnight, it is my home office computer) I lose connection. It will have the icon with the computer screen with a red x over it. When I click on it it turns to bars with a yellow symbol over it. I click on that and it shows available networks. I click to connect to mine and the yellow symbol becomes a blue circle. It stays like that for a few minutes and I then get a cannot connect to network error. I click on trouble shoot, it detects and resets the adapter and it connects. I have already tried unchecking the power saving box in adapter properties and flushing the dns. I also disabled the power shut of in the computer power management. I have tried 3 different adapters and the same problem. So far I have had no issues with disconnect while using the computer. Possibly happens when the comp goes to sleep. I think I will disable sleep mode overnight and see if that helps. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can you try disabling USB power saving by following this procedure:

1. In Power options, click Change advanced power settings.

2. In the Power Options dialog box, expand USB settings, and then expand USB selective suspend setting.

3. If you want to enable Windows 7 to turn on the USB root hub when the computer is running on battery power, click Disabled in the On battery list.

4. If you want to enable Windows 7 to turn on the USB root hub when the computer is plugged in to a power outlet, click Disabled in the Plugged in list, and then click OK.

Our wired network connection frequently and intermittently goes to local access only and requires a reset of the adapter in the networking utility of Vista Home Premium 64. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why or when it drops. Sometimes it will stay up for hours and sometimes it will drop every few minutes.

Computer is Acer Aspire x1200 with 4GB RAM. OS is Vista Home Premium 64, SP1. Network connection is through a Netgear WGR614 wireless router with 4-port ethernet switch.

A Toshiba laptop and Compaq desktop running WiFi have no connection problems. Dell and Gateway XP towers on ethernet are also OK.

Acer published a BIOS update to address a problem with the adapter shutting down, but I've seen no mention of the reduced connectivity problem.

I just moved into a new place and I've been having a lot of trouble with the wireless connection. There are 4 other people sharing the wireless and none of them seem to have problems, and my phone connects fine, but my laptop will randomly lose internet access while still detecting the network. When I run the troubleshooter it says it has reset the wireless adapter, and the connection will work again, but sometimes only for a few minutes before it craps out. I don't have access to the wireless router itself, so doing anything with that will require asking the landlady (who doesn't speak English well). I had access fine for the first two days after I moved in. I did install a couple of programs after that: 7-Zip and Flash Player 11.2 (since the newest Flash version crashes my Firefox). I don't know if that could have anything to do with it.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on an Asus laptop. After searching around the forum a bit, I followed the instructions in this post and will paste the results here. I don't know if the ping address starting with 206 might be invalid since the post is from several years ago.

Thanks so much for any help!
