Q: Yoga 11e Chromebook sleep/charging problem

Hi, I have following problem: If I charge my chromebook and have it in sleep mode (e.g. closed lid), it will turn off (crash) after a while. Powerwash hasn't solved the problem.I like to just put the chromebook in sleep all the time.I got it 6 months ago and it started that behavior about one month ago.I would appreciate any help. Thanks, orakeldel

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi i have just bought a acer chrome book which hasnt got any warranty left. my chromebook is pretty much brand new the condition is amazing but my chromebook wont charge. now i have researched the problem and it seems like there is a common fault with this model so has there been some kind of recall on these machines as it seems like it is happening to alot of people?thanks mike

A:acer chromebook 13 charging problem

Nope, no recall on them. Remember that when you see a 'lot of people' complaining about something it likely just means that most people don't have anything to complain about and so they stay quiet.  The most common charging problem seems to be a poor connection between the charger and the computer. Check to make sure the center post of the socket on your Chromebook hasn't been pushed in. Verify (if you can) that the charger worked fine on another system. Last step would be to check out the internal connection, it's not unknown on laptops for the charging board to be disconnected from the motherboard. If none of those help you might have a battery issue. You mention it's a new unit, but out of warranty, is there any chance it's been sitting with a discharged battery for a significant period of time? The batteries in these things really don't like being discharged past a threshhold...

Hi all,My Yoga with Win10 have two issues: 1. When I turn off the laptop and the display goes off, the computer will "turn off" but not fully - cooling fans continue to running. Hold down the button to turn off after 5 seconds shuts down completely. 2. When using the notebook Batteries so when you turn on the power cable laptop freezes ... when I unplug the power cord notebook unfreezes. Either helps you connect and disconnect cables as long as it starts to work with the attached cable, or restart ... Does anyone have any advice? Thanks jam

A couple of weeks after warranty expires, my Chromebook CB3-111 will not charge while plugged in. After reading many on-line forums, I decided to purchase a new battery.  After installation, the problem still persists: battery light remains orange, and battery % icon shows 1% (even after hours plugged in). Is there a need for a new charging cord?  Is there some voltage regulator on board not allowing batter to charge?

Hello there,I have a 14-inch Lenovo Yoga 500, and it seemed to be working perfectly fine until now, since the charging port is literally unusuable. To begin with, the issue was very minor and turning the cable around or moving it would fix the problem. However, as time went on, it became harder for me to plug the charging cable, because the laptop wouldn't respond. After a while, I realised that there was a sweet spot and I managed to cope with that, but the laptop would still cycle between charging and not charging which meant that the laptop was charging at a slower rate. Unfortunately, now it has become impossible for me to use my laptop, because I have to spend a lot of time playing with the cable in order to get my laptop charged, but the problem was that even the SLIGHTEST touch would interrupt the flow and the laptop would shut down. Now I think that there isn't a way that I can adapt to this situation, because it keeps getting worse... I read online and some people said that Lenovo can change the motherboard if the laptop is still in warranty, which unfortunately isn't the case here. So now, I'm quite stuck and unsure of what to do. I really would appreciate any help towards my problem and if you can tell me how much it would cost to change the motherboard, or fix it by an easier or more efficient way. Thanks for any help in advice,Koce.EDIT: I have also tried out different cables, but the result was the same.

Mfg date for this laptop is Oct 2014, Windows 10 OS. About a month back battery power was about 25% when I plugged charger in. the screen became brighter, means it was charging. Suddenly the computer shut down and though charger was connected, the charging light went off. Thereafter the computer did not turn on either with charger or without. Even the charging light did not turn on. Changed the charger as well as cable but neither charging indicator turned on nor computer turned on. It was like battery fully down and charger not connected. Took it to Lenovo service center and they made it alright and told me that they had disconnected the battery and reconnected. The power left in the battery was still 25%. Exactly same thing happened once again yesterday and I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it worked. Since it happened second time, whatever the problem may be, was not solved permanently by above procedure. Can someone help what could be the reason and how to solve it permanently?

I've had my c720 for a little over 2 years now and an issue just started recently that whenever the chromebook dies and I put it on the charger it doesn't want to turn back on. It used to be i could let it sit(even though the charging LED wasn't on) for a few minutes, open it back up and it would be charging. Now it's been to where i let it sit for a whole day, no charging LED indicator was on. It wouldn't turn on, but when i looked at it the next day the charging LED was on. Opened it up it was fully charged. It's been progressively getting worse every time it dies. I have taken to not letting it die anymore and haven't had anything else happen with it so far. What could be causing this issue? I haven't ruled out the charger yet because it still charges just the device itself not indicating it's being charged or turning on until fully charged. I know it's out of warranty, but around what price range am I looking in repair costs? I love my chromebook and don't want to have to get another or loose my info ):

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I am still fighting with "260 will not wake up from sleep problem" described in my post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-260-cannot-wake-up-from-s... I tried everything, fresh restore (5 times), boot from linux live, the laptop can't manage correct sleep, hybernation and even a simple shutdown. I can only switch on and off by pressing power button for more than 10 seconds. I tried to update the bios (from the lenovo website or from a bootable ISO) but it does just half of the job, when it tries to restart do finalize the process it goes again in a frozen state and can only restart by pressing power button for long time. Ok my laptop is out of warranty, but this has been clearly caused by a lenovo update, before that the lapotp was performing perfectly. There are several people with thinkpad reporting the same problem, lot of them with my same 260. The last one IDENTICAL problem 4 days ago: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Yoga-260-Does-not-wake-up/m-p/3930549 This is unacceptable, I went to a lenovo assistance and they asked me 750euros to change the motherboard. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LENOVO. I would like to hear an opinion from a Lenovo operator reading this forum, if any.

Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook.  When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility.  When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen.  It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain.  The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions.  Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device.  Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday.  The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!).  Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the m... Earlier today, I had shut the lid on my Chromebook (putting it into standby mode) and had put it away. At this point it had full power. About half an hour later, I had opened it up again, but it had shut off, and I coudn't get it to turn on again until I plugged it in to auxilary power. When it revived, it still had full battery, but had forgotten the details of the network until I had signed in. This is similar to another issue, wherein the system will occasionally stop opening and running user-installed applications and block any access to local storage (such as viewing and downloading files), citing lack of permission (which does not apply otherwise), until restarting and logging in again. My device is fully up-to-date on the stable update stream. Why am I having these issues? Are there any ways to fix this permanently (aside from purchasing a different device)?

Hi. I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 500 laptop, and I'm quite disappointed. When I plug in my charger, 9/10 times it starts to charge, then immediately stop charging, then charge again for a second. This results in never charging. Eventually it charges normally, but it's completely random and sometimes requires 5+ restarts. I need this laptop for school so taking it off for repair is hard for me but I will do it if there is no other way. I got a second charger from a friend and this still occurs, so the problem isn't with the charger. Anyone have any idea for a fix? Thanks

Earlier today, my Yoga 3 Pro decided to stop charging.  When plugged in, the battery continues to drain as if it was not plugged in.  I have tested the A/C adapter by plugging in my phone with a micro USB and that worked fine, and the USB charging slot works when my wireless mouse is plugged into it, so I assume it must be the strange Y3P USB cable that is not working.   Would a normal USB to USB cable work for charging my laptop?  If not, how do I replace that "kink" USB cable?  I haven't seen any for sale anywhere and I'd rather not have to pay $40 for a whole new charger on the Lenovo site if the cable is the only issue.

A:Yoga 3 Pro Not Charging

Hello and welcome,

The Y3P and its charger need that special cable.  The charger and laptop have an extra set of pins in the USB sockets that pass 20V to charge the laptop.  A standard USB cable doesn't support those extra contacts.  The charger also provides 5V on the standart USB pins.

Your test of the charger with a your phone shows that the 5V portion of the charger is working but doesn't verify the 20V portion.  It's possible that the charger is bad.

When you plug the laptop and charger together does the battery icon indicate that AC power is attached?  You could have a bad charger, a bad cable, a bad laptop connector (or other component) or the battery management software could be messed up.

Sorry I don't have an easy test or fix.  It may be necessary to actually swap the cable and charger to diagnose this one.

[edit] The Y3P is a fairly new machine.  If this is under warranty, support should be able to help you:  1-877-4-Lenovo, 1-877-453-6686

Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

I've tried resetting the battery gauge in Energy Manger 1.0.1.49 but that only runs for a few seconds and reports that the gauge reset is complete. I've also disabled the ACPI control in device manager then enabling it and the icon appears to be charging but only for a few seconds then stops. Having conservation mode on or off doesn't seem to make any difference. The latest BIOS is installed and I believe I have the latest version of Energy Manager. Anyone else having this problem?

A:Yoga 2 Pro Battery not charging

I've experienced this a couple times on my new Yoga 2 as well. The first instance, it just started charging again after about an hour of use. The second time, I rebooted after about an hour of it being plugged in and not charging, and once I reached the desktop, the battery showed 43%, but still not charging.. So i guess it was actually charging the whole time without showing it?After about 2 days of ownership, I've decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 followed by loading all the necessary drivers listed on lenovo's product page, and I can happily say this 0% plugged in not charging thing hasn't happened again.

I'm trying to find a USB C hub that can charge my Yoga 910 and provide a wired Ethernet port (not too concerned about other additional ports).Ideally I'd like to reuse my stock charger. So far I have tried theStartech 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub plug Gigabit Ethernet and Power Delivery - USB-C HB30C3AGEPDAnker Premium USB-C Hub with Ethernet and Power Delivery A8302Both hubs add USB 3 ports and Ethernet but neither of them have been able to charge to Yoga. I have tried both the stock Lenovo charger as well as the Dell 45W USB-C travel charger as power sources. Has anyone been able to get the 910 to charge through a hub or docking station device? Thanks.

I have a Yoga 370 plugged into a ThinkPad USB-C Dock (DK1633) with the provided USB-C cable, and Windows is showing "Plugged in" but also "Not charging" as the battery has continued to decline in this configuration (it's declined from ~60% when it was first docked, and is now at 29%.) What's this mean, and how do I correct it? More detail: The USB-C cable is plugged into the port next to the power on the dock (the only place it fits.)The dock is powered, as evidenced by the power light being on.The USB-C cable is plugged into the Yoga at the "lightning" port (again, the only place it fits.)I've tried the most obvious googleable steps, which are to remove the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" in Device Manager and re-add/update. This didn't change the behavior.I should add that I first noticed this problem only a couple weeks ago. Before that I believe the dock was charging the laptop as expected, in the same configuraton it's in now.I have not yet tried charging with the power cable that comes with the Yoga (instead of the dock/USB-C) since this problem started happening. I don't have the cable handy, and won't for a few days.

I recently noticed that my battery was showing 10 percent when it had been plugged in all day. I plugged it in and it didnt seem like it was charging. I could see the laptop plugged in animation, but it was not charging. I woke up the next morning it was showing 96 percent, which at this point should be 100 percent.  I'm now noticing that it's just not charging.  Are there known issues? Regardless, this is totally unacceptable.

Hi emx0r,thanks for posting. Based from your post there is a possibility that your machine may be set to optimised battery Life. What you can do is open up the Lenovo Energy Management and under battery ensure that it is set to Maximum Battery life.Hope this helps.Regards

i have lenovo yoga 720 13" inch model, if i charge the battery lights indicator its still turned on even my device after fully charged. so can i charging my laptop overnight, and does my laptop have overcharge protection ??

A:yoga 720 13" charging battery

Hi Ferry-indra,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Placing the laptop connected to the charger overnight with proper autosurge/ voltage regulator device is safe.

The battery itself have a special overcharger protection as described in the manual page 22:
"Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains; under this condition the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life."

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards
