Monitor wont wake up from screen saver.

Q: Monitor wont wake up from screen saver.

This is a new one for me. My friends monitor doesn't wake up when its in screen saver mode. Have ran AdAware and Spybot. I have also looked for anything funny in the properties to adjust the screen saver and power settings. I have found nothing unusual there. My friend was running an aquarium screen saver. But when changed to a windows screen saver, it did the samething again after a while. She has to shut down the PC at the power button to get her desktop back.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Monitor wont wake up from screen saver.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm hoping someone has a cure for the following situation. Once my screen saver has kicked in, if a press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse, the PC wakes up to the default W7 screen with my chosen user account icon visible, and if it click on the icon, the desktop becomes visible. Is there a way that when I initially move the mouse or press a key, I can go right to the desktop without the added step of having to click on the icon to make the desktop visible? Thanks in advance!

New Gateway Laptop
Like mentioned above the Clock Time is always off upon startup by a few hours and although all settings for the screen saver seem to be appropriate, the screen saver fails to activate by timer. Have yet to see it.

Would there be anything that may be conflicting with those settings?

A:Time Resets, Screen Saver wont activate, wont somebody help me

The screensaver is based on either mouse movement or HD idle time...make sure that nothing is needing to run while you are waiting for the screensaver (antivirus, etc)

If it's a new Gateway that you have, I would contact their support on your time issue. It could be a bad install, could be an issue with your bios clock, or other issues.

I am reposting this problem because i think i may have explained my problem incrrectly.
Sony monitor wont come off of power saver.
It has 2 led lights.1 for Power Saver(such as in stand by mode) and 1 for when the monitor is on and working. When i turn the monitor is on, it immediately goes to Power Saver mode, therefore the screen remains completely black(as if it was off).I cannot seem to get it back on.

A little background:
I put in a NIC card, booted the computer and during Post i received a message about a device conflict and a memory parity error. When i choose to ignore the message it would not boot in normal mode(Windows was giving me the same error). When i choose to ignore the erro and bot into safe mode, it works fine.I decided to remove the NIC and i still received the same error so this time i choose the option to remove the conflicting device(thinking it was the NIC).Unfortunetely and aparently, the device that was removed was the monitor because it has not worked since.I removed the CMos battery, took out the video card, remove all unecessary devices, reset the memory but nothing seems to work.

Just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and I have notice a loss of settings on the screen saver. My photo screen saver now just sits between the 2 monitors, where as on XP it went from one monitor to the other, then on to the next picture. Is there any kind modification for this? I would even settle for the photo just coming up on both monitors. Sure hope they bring this function back in Win 10. Slim

I have a Dell 1750 Inspiron laptop that I use "as a desktop" as every piece of hardware is connected to it.
It runs with Windows 7 Home Edition. It has a 4gb memory and a 450gb hard drive which is less than half used.

I have the screen saver set to Photos and usually have a cut-in time of 1 hour idle.

The screen saver cuts in exactly when it should and scrolls through my photos for as long as the laptop is left idle.

However, as soon as I touch the mouse/keyboard, instead of reverting to the "normal" screen the photos disappear, the blank screen fades for a few seconds and then a message appears in a box, saying that the Photos Screen Saver is not responding, and gives the options of either close the program or wait for the programme to respond. Waiting doesn't seem to work so I have to click on close the programme and then cancel the statement that Windows will try to find a solution, because it doesn't!

I have tried to vary the time before the screen saver kicks in, anything from 1 minute to several hours but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Can anyone help please?

A:Photo Screen Saver wont revert back to live screen

Have you checked the timing for when the HDD turns off or Sleep or Hibernation kicks in [I disable both of those and lengthen the time on the HDD to several hours], Control Panel, Power Options?

The reason I mentioned the HDD is the symptoms you mentioned seem to apply. The screen saver could be in memory and not affected by the HDD until it's asked for something.

Just recently, within the last couple days, my screen saver has decided not to work. It has always worked without any problem before, and im not sure why it decided to stop.

I've checked everything that i know with my knowledge, but it seems fine.

A couple possibilities are that when i did a google search on this problem, i found a post saying something about editing the screen saver file in C:\WINDOWS, but i notice that i dont have that file.

I dont know if the file was always never there, or maybe it was deleted somehow.

Another possibility is that there is a program running in the background, but i dont think that is the case because its the same programs running when it worked before.

Thanks in Advance

A:Screen Saver wont turn on anymore

Well it might be a dumb suggestion, but if you don't have the "screensaver file" (whatever THAT is) where it's supposed to be, maybe that's why it's not working.

So then MAKE one, maybe.

Post a link to the site that talks about the screensaver file and maybe we can make you one to fix it. Or something.

Have you gone to the XP setting from Desktop>Properties ? It has a timer on it so it starts after a certain amount of inactivity. Did this change ?

Can you do the "Preview" ?

Hi -

Help. Ever since I had a crash a few months ago my monitor wouldn't shut off. I set it over and over to do so with the power settings, but no good. I didn't know about you guys and I just shut the whole computer off every night. Here's a weird thing. I could swear that I used to have the options of hibernate and stand by with this machine . It's a Sony Vaio with all the hardware on it. It's just mine - no network. I don't think I'm confused back to more than 5 years ago. I just let it all go. I think I read that the best thing was to shut it all off and that's what I've been doing for a long time, even before the crash. I went to Microsoft and looked where I was told and no hibernate or standby. I put it in search and got a whole lot of files that ended in .inf

Well, since yesterday my screen saver won't start up at the set 20 minute time. At least I didn't have to turn off the monitor all the time because the screen saver would go on during the day.

Today I posted some other problems that are popping up lately in the XP forum. I hope this isn't the end. The screensaver is another new problem. Any help is always appreciated. OH, this is good, it won't let me post as it says I just posted 10 secs ago. I posted something this morning. GREAT. It's the end.

hi all.

i have just freshly formateed and re-installed Windows 7 on my pc inorder to find whymy sleep and screen saver/timeouts are not working.

i havve tried to trouble shoot it, and come up with nothing. it is currently a bare bones system, with windows, MoBo Drivers and latest windows updates. that it. and it still wont work.

command prompt gives this

C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
HID-compliant mouse
Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
HID Keyboard Device
and this

C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -requests

it is currently installing some updates, but that shouldnt effect the screen saver comming on.

any other sugestions on what i can try to find out what is stopping it from working?

The screen saver and power settings will not engage. I set to turn off monitors in 1 minute and even if i leave for a hour they are still on. Same with screen saver.

I came across powercfg and ran

powercfg -REQUESTS

and it showed

[DRIVER] Realtek High Definition Audio (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0889&SUBSYS
An audio stream is currently in use.

Okay, so even though I don't have any audio playing, it seems like the Realtek driver is causing the system to basically reset the timer. I tried to disable it by invoking the powercfg device disable wake argument and i get a permissions issue.

powercfg -DEVICEDISABLEWAKE "Realtek High Definition Audio"
You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake.

The issue is that I have ran CMD as administrator and am logged in as an administrator. I am running the latest version of Realtek driver for Windows 7, why would this happen? suggestions on getting this resolved?

I am in need of some help.
I just upgraded to a new Dell i7 XPS with win 7 pro, I hate win 10.
Anyway I have been running a program called Blue Iris for some IP cams I have watching the front door and driveway and yard.
What I want to do is use a 24" TV to monitor the cameras via a window in the Blue Iris program on the TV always on yet be able to use a screen saver with password on my primary monitor to keep my PC secure when Im not around.
I have the dual monitor on and can open the BlueIris software and drag the window over to the TV to view and its all good while I use my monitor for other purposes. I had the monitor set to sleep after 30 minutes with password on wake but it shut off the dispaly on the TV as well.

The TV is plugged directly into the graphics card, Nvidea, which I dont think is where I need to try and solve this.

I have tried reading thru the tutorials here and searching but Im not seeing any related issue I can glean info from.

A:Dual monitor and screen saver on one but not both needed

I doubt that can happen when the system sleeps it sleeps
Even if it's just a screen saver slide show activating it will as you say appear on both monitors

10 has better options I've heard for multiple monitors but I doubt it would do any different in sleep....

You'd need 2 computers to accomplish what you want
Or the security application would need it's own stand alone box that only needed power and has a monitor hookup.

This is likely a video card driver issue (or driver issue in general) not responding to to power state transitions correctly. I would expect you'd be getting 9F related BSOD's, however, it's always a possibility.

First thing I am going to recommend is that you update your video card drivers to the latest version (depending if you have AMD or nVidia) is the website you'll want to visit.

A:Vista screen saver wont show photo titles

If I remember correctly, the XP screensaver you are referring to doesn't do that (I don't have an XP machine up and running to verify). And for that matter, I don't think the Vista one works any differently (odds are, I'm seeing the same thing as you in my 32bit version of Home Premium, and the closest I see in the settings for that screensaver are 'tagging' options, which I'm pretty sure won't do what you're asking for ).

Are you sure you're not mistaking it for a third party screensaver perhaps? I know Google's Photo Screensaver lists details like that.

I have my monitor set under the screen saver power settings to automatically power off after 10 minutes of inactivity. I also have a screen saver set. The screen saver seems to constantly supersede the power setting, however. Whether I set the screen saver to activate after less time (like 5 minutes) or more (like 15), whenever the screen saver turns on, it kicks the monitor back on and doesn't let it turn off again. Why is that? The monitor will power off after 10 minutes if the screen saver is disabled even when watching a video file (ie while the screen display is constantly changing), so it shouldn't be just because the screen saver keeps changing the screen's video information...

Background. Wifes Pc was having a problem a while back and I Restored Windows on it. Ran great for a while but I found it came up with Someones elses Name on it. I think it was a refurb and the box it came in didn't say so. This is a Gateway Pc. Now every once in a while my Internet goes real slow. To fix it I shut off my wife's PC. Goes from 1Meg to 8-10 when restarted. Now today her PC goes into Screen saver but nothing shows up. The screen goes blank and the monitor light blinks.I turned off the monitor and then back on and it shows one of the pictures from the screen saver for a second and then goes to the desktop. Also the HDD light is constantly flashing. I thought it was from the live tiles on Windows 8 so I shut all of them off. Still the light flashes. Before I call Gateway back up or Format it this time I thought you might have an idea on this. I also ran SFC /scannow and the log file shows errors and couldn't fix some files. And I ran a chkdsk and it showed errors that could not be fixed. I have a feeling I will have to make them replace the HDD. Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated.

A:Weird Screen saver makes monitor Have no Signal

OK I figured out the Screen saver problem. Either my wife or one of the grand kids changed which I don't thing they know how to the Power settings. They had the PC going to sleep at 5 minutes which is what I had the sceen saver set to come on. Also the Monitor was set to sleep. So that is fixed but the other thing about the HDD light flashing is still happening. Not when the screen saver is working but any time while just sitting there.

Hi all, I've had this problem for a few weeks now. My auto sleep function of either my monitor or screen saver won't work well, soon after a computer restart. Right after a restart things are working normally, but after say 5 hours it doesn't work. It seems that my computer won't idle then.

However, after several hours of computer activity, it stop working!

Things I've tried:
1) Deleted lots of processes in my task manager. Compared a list of programs running when my comp will idle with a list of programs running when my comp won't. Deleted all the ones (I think) that were different.
2) Turning off my mouse and keyboard
3) Trying different options...i.e., monitor sleep, and screen saver. 4) Switching from DP to DVI D.
I have a ASUS PB278Q and a GTX 660. Wireless mouse. Wired keyboard.

It seems like #1 above, has to be it...but so far no luck. Maybe I could use some sort of alternative program. I tried using a screen turn-off .EXE file, but after 1 second the monitor pops back on...as if the mouse were activated. I often fall asleep to movies or forgot to turn of my monitor when I leave my room, so that's why I'd really like this to work normally. This program -- click here -- allows a blank screen saver to activate on click. However, the auto activate doesn't work cause, again, my system won't idle. Also, a blank screen saver isn't as dark as a monitor auto-shut down.

Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

A:Computer won't Idle -- no screen saver or auto monitor shut off

I would take a look in Device Manager. Go to the device for your network card/interface and look at the Properties. See if it is set to wake on network activity.

Help - I'm running Windows 7 Home premium. About three weeks ago, when waking from a sleep mode, the monitor would make a slight popping sound, then would flash the monitor logo several times before the home screen appeared.

This problem is worsening -- and is now happening on startup too, i.e., the monitor will pop and flash its logo for several minutes before the computer is ready.

I have had trouble-shooting suggestions from HP that involved resetting the screen saver, resetting sleep mode, and doing a system restore -- none of those seemed to help my problem.

Ok so I have a HP Mini 110 and lately my computer has been acting strange. It wont shut down. If I try to shut it down it will act like its shutting down then re boot back up. If it goes to "sleep" (the buttons are still lit, typically the power button will just flash on and off) it wont wake up unless I use the power button.

Now this all started happening when my computer stopped or failed to update my language packs which took 28 hours to fully finish. Only 14 out of the 32 downloaded ok fine so i shut it down to just finish those that were installed. Ok so shutting down then the whole "Dont turn off your computer installing updates" then it gets stuck at 15 % then it goes to a black screen that i think said something like "initiating updates in 0 outta 321472 files" this took a good hour to finish. Then brought me back to the 15% screen then that changed to "Updates Failed" and something else, then the computer restarted.

WHAT DO I DO?? could it possibly be a virus???

If the Monitor light goes from green to amber then yes there is problem with the vid card not being able to dispaly anything, it could be that it isn't seated properly in whatever slot your using, What Vid card is it, it maybe that you need to connect it to power on the motherboard, it also could be that your power supply isn't powerful enough to run the card and everything else so what wattage is the power supply?

The screen on my new laptop has gone blank on starting up, it shows nothing, i tried a hard reset which didn't fix. The external monitor won't display anything.
It's a HP envy 15-j112tx running windows 8. With a hdmi connection i tried to connect to an external monitor. The monitor was previously using vga to a desktop, i unplugged that and connected my dvi cable to the dvi port. The monitor says check video connection then goes to sleep. I connected the cables with the laptop turned off and again with the laptop already on. The monitor still says check video connection. The connection is secure, it is a new cord. I pressed the F4 button to switch between screens and waited inbetween presses but still nothing.

It is still under warranty. I disabled the nvidia graphics card a few days ago to try n save on power usage, as it also has an intel graphics card. It has worked fine for a few days since i did that.
Now that i've powered it on/off about 5 times the hard drive stops whirring after about a minute, yet the power button light remains on. It no longer turns off when i hold power for even a minute. I dont want to kill the thing.

Can anyone help me, i can't find an answer in previous threads.

A:External monitor wont work to fix blank screen HP envy

I have the same issue on my Envy-1130LA, white screen after power up and the external monitor doesn't work.

I bought a new flex cable to test if it works.

Are you already repaired your laptop? Please share your experience.

XP Service Pack 3

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

I've never had a monitor that took so long to display. Acer's monitor for the Aspire X1930 first displays some energy saver logo (chunky, highly aliased graphics) and then displays "Acer." Okay, I got it! It saves energy and it's an Acer. But I don't need to know this each time I turn on the monitor. I like to save energy when I go to eat or take a break, but I like to have my work ready for me the moment I get back. Is there any way to turn off these notifications?

A:How do I turn off the monitor's energy saver and A...

No, there is not.
I can suggest using a screen saver instead of powering the monitor on and off.

I can go into my screen saver and into the Monitor Power settings and set it to turn off the monitor in, for example, 45 minutes.
And it will work for some period of time, usually for a couple of days.
Then it will inexplicably go back to simply a screen saver with no power saving. ANd when I look at all the settings, they are all just the way I left them.
This also happened, BTW, on my old WIN 98 system, which was an entirely different computer, except for the monitor.
However, there is some software that I had in WIN 98 that I reinstalled onto my new XP Home system, so I suspec that one of those peices of software is causing the problem.
What I don't know is what to look for to tell me what might have caused it to stop functioning.
One thing I was wondering is if there is some kind of software available that I can buy that will keep a log of what applications I have started and stopeed, so I can have a kind of journal of my activity, so I can narrow things down.

A:Monitor Power Saver Intermittant

Download HiJackThis. Run the update feature for it then scan your system. Save the file then copy and paste the results back here. Don't try to fix anything until the experts here have a chance to look at it and advise you.

Anytime I go to use my monitor (1.5years old Dell E2209W) it will turn on and be stuck in "entering Power Saver mode". This process began slowly, first it only happened every week, and all i had to do was just turn it off and then back on. It would sometimes happen as soon as I start my computer, and sometimes in the middle of doing something on it. Sometimes I would just have to turn it off and back on, sometimes I would have to unplug everything for a couple minutes and it would turn back on. For some reason it will not work with this computer now (Dell Vostro 410, Intel core 2 quad q6600 @2.4ghz, 4gigs ram, radeon HD3450, ...), and when I went to hook it up to my other computer, it worked for 2minutes and then cut out again, and it will not connect back to the computer.
I also have a Viewsonic VA912b that works perfect with both computers (with the same cords I was using for the E2209W, so it wouldn't be the cords), so it doesn't seem like it could be the computer. I've read a lot of forums of poeple having similar problems with their dell monitors, but usually they work with other computers.

It does pass the Monitor Self-Test. The computer doesn't acknowledge that i plugged anything into it when i connect the dvi cable either. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
