I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone! Quick question, should be easy for those of you that know a lot about AD. I know that you can set password complexity but any documentation that I have found only states that you can set to be a minimum of 6 characters and only requiring 1 capital letter, one lowercase letter etc... etc... I need to know if there is a way to set password complexity to meet the following requirments.

Min 10 Characters
2 Capital Letters
2 Lowercase letters
2 Numbers
2 special Characters

We are currently trying to set u p Sun Java Enterprise System 5 for user authentication but it's a pain to set up and doesn't work the way it should. AD would be so much easier. Thanks in advance!

Hi all,
I'm not sure if in the right place for this, i'm part of a large network infrastructure and we use Active Directory to manage our users. I am looking to create a web-based tool where users can go and reset their own network signon passwords.

Does anyone here use this function?
Keep in mind I am not a programmer or web design specialist, I was given this as a research project from my boss to work on.

Any help would be appreciated.

We have some users that work from home and their PC's are on the domain network maybe twice a year, however they VPN to work daily.
When these users do come to the office to use another PC AD rightfully force them to change Password, when they get back to the PC they have at home this password is not accepted and they have to use old password to login to PC at home.
This create discrepancy between current AD password and the domain joint PC at home that haven't been on work lan for ages.

Is there a way to get PC that mostly connect to work over VPN to sync with AD ? so that they get GPOs, AD password etc ... ?

I have the Local security policy settings with complexity disabled but when I try to set up a new account I still get the guff about requiring 8+ chars, upper case and numbers. How can I get this removed please. Pieter

A:Password Complexity

Hello Bruegel,

The Local Security Policy password requirements are only applied to a local account, and not a Microsoft account.

Microsoft accounts require that passwords must have at least 8 characters, but up to 16 characters, and contain at least two of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. This password complexity requirement is enforced by Microsoft to help make your password more secure.

Hi all

it's now day 4 .searching for solution

I don't want to install new windows

my problem is windows not accept any password or remove password , always say's "not meet password complexity" ,although no password entered !!!!

I changed and reset security policy many time > no luck , what can I do??

A:Password complexity

Hi and welcome to the Ten Forums!

You will need to explain a little more about what you are trying to do. Are you logging in with a local account?

Basically you have set a password as empty and this is not secure! A Microsoft account has to have a password but you can remove one for a local account. See the following tutorial for more details:

Password of User Account - Remove in Windows 10

Hope this helps!

I know how to enforce them, but how do you set what the password complexity requirements actually are?

I have a rather odd issue with Users manually changing their passwords. My default domain policy is set for complexity, 10 characters, change every 180 days, minimum password change 7 days, history enforced. The policy works perfectly unless a user wishes
to manually change the password when they do they receive an error claiming the password doesn't meet complexity.
I have confirmed the passwords do meet all requirements and if I set the "change password at next logon" flag that same password that is rejected during a manual change is now excepted when the user is forced to change. I have confirmed this with
the same complex password once on manual change (fails) and once with the change password flag set (success).
Before we get into quick answers:
Yes, this password policy is set in the default domain policy.
Yes, synchronization works correctly, in fact, the policy works correctly when allowed to run automatically. This is only an issue when users try to change their passwords manually.
No, simply setting the Change password flag is not an option as it breaks Dirsync which is in use for O365 accounts.

I have a user who is having an issue with her AD account. She called in earlier because her account would not accept her password and subsequently locked. The tech that took the initial call unlocked her account & set a temp password (did not flag for
change on next log on). However, when the user tries to change her password manually, she gets an error that it does not meet complexity requirements. I've given her several suggestions that well exceed our requirements, but it's still rejecting anything we
try. We know it's not a keyboard issue because it's accepting the temp password. She's (so far, at least) the only one with this issue.

I have a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain and am trying to increase the password complexity requirements.

However, it seems as though the password complexity requirements are an all or nothing setting. Either I can choose to have no password complexity enforced or users must use 3 out of the 4 character types which is actually pretty difficult to think up, remember and not write down etc.

Is there a way that I can enforce password creation of passwords that meet 2 out of 4 of the character types? (ie any 2 out of the 4 of lowercase, uppercase, numbers and symbols)

A:2 out of 4 password complexity requirements?

3 out of 4 complexity passwords are not that difficult to create if you tell your users its a pass-Phrase, instead of password

A:Windows 7 password complexity registry

Hi shadowj20, Welcome to SF.

You can find most of these settings in the:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SeCEdit\Reg Values

Path, for example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SeCEdit\Reg Values\MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Netlogon/Parameters/DisablePasswordChange
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SeCEdit\Reg Values\MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Netlogon/Parameters/MaximumPasswordAge
The other settings you are looking for are also configured in this path.

We have password complexity enabled on our AD, however users can change their password without meeting the complexity requirements, and still logon or password change accepted

Read other answers

Here is the Definition of this policy:
Password must meet complexity requirements

This security setting determines whether passwords must meet complexity requirements.

If this policy is enabled, passwords must meet the following minimum requirements:

Not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters
Be at least six characters in length
Contain characters from three of the following four categories:
English uppercase characters (A through Z)
English lowercase characters (a through z)
Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Complexity requirements are enforced when passwords are changed or created.
I have been asked to require 4 out of the 5 is there anyway to do this with GPO or Registry Hack?  I would rather not buy a tool to do this... Thoughts?

I'm using Win7 Ultimate with service pack and in the process of installing World Ship 16 we encounter error 26. Upon calling UPS for tech assistance they are telling me that the error is cause by the Password Complexity settings in Win7.

So I searched online and found in Microsoft that by searching for secpol.msc I can change the settings on my computer. However, I can't. I can see the menu, enter the properties, see the options, but they are grayed out. I repeated the process and made sure I access this as an admin to no avail.

I also tried this on my Win8 professional computer... same problem. So I figure, since they are on my network I need to change the settings on my server. So I access the settings only to see they where "Not Defined", regardless I changed the Password Complexity to Disable, and ran the cmd command gpupdate... Nothing!

Can you tell me what I've done wrong? Did I miss something? or is there a better way to do this?

In A domain environment when i rest a user password from active directory users and computers he is unable to login to Windows with new password. He is configured to login through wifi And we are using single sign on in the wifi settings. This issue is only affecting few users. connection to company wifi network is authenticated through 802.1x. so we manualy create a wifi profile for 802.1x .

At the dual login screen the new credentials (we are using active directory credentials for wifi since it's 802.1x) are entered. First it spits an error that unable to connect to wifi. Then windows spits an error of invalid user name or password.

If we enter the old credentials at login in both wifi access and windows access we are able to login to Windows (it logs in with Cached credentials) but I it obviously is unable to connect to wifi network.

The user is a member of wifi group so he has access to wifi and he can access wifi through his iPhone.

Also another observation is that if I login with his Cached credentials and configure a wifi profile /connection using his new (reseted password) password windows spits an error that cannot connect to the network.

So the core issue is that after reseting his password from active directory users and computers he cannot connect to wifi through windows.

The workaround that currently I do is i login with his Cached credentials to Windows and then i use my own credentials to configure wifi connecti... Read more

You'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership -- it may not be worth it though, since the call will cost about $60, which is probably about six times more than the entire system is worth.
The other option is to replace the mainboard - which is probably well under $60.

My Dad received an email from 'Facebook' through outlook express that had a zip file attached called Facebook_password_4891.zip, which he unfortunately opened. He said that nothing happened, so he double clicked on it again, and then when nothing happened again, he realised he'd probably done something stupid.

I have since deleted the email with the attachment, and scanned using AVG and Spy bot, but neither have turned up anything with that name. I'm still scared that its in our computer though, as I googled it and the websites I went on said that it was a bad trojan/key logger.

We use google chrome as our internet browser- not sure if that helps or not :-)

Well, I own a D-Link DIR-615 Router, And I forgot my router log-in, AND Wi-Fi Passwords. I went on a trip somewhere, and my computer was reset when I left with it. (Still have PC connected though.) And I just CANNOT reset the thing. I tried default etc etc. But I need to find a way... =\ I still have one Vista computer working with it, But the password comes out to: ***** or dots. (its hidden) Is there a way to show them?

Also, Is there a way to change your MAC adress?

A:Forgot Router log-in password/Wifi password, Cannot be Reset (As in; not going to)

As I think that you already know, the solution is to reset the router to factory defaults. When you reconfigure it tape the pertinent account/password/encryption key information to the bottom of the router.

Some ISPs track the MAC Address of the device connected to the modem. It is perfectly fine and easily done to clone the registered MAC address to the router's WAN to avoid having to call the ISP. There is no other need that I know of to change a MAC Address.

Other than the above advice your thread is subject to our password rule:

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

Hi, One option, if all your personal data etc is backed-up or you have nothing you need to save, would be to reset the notebook to its 'Factory Condition' and then set it up from the beginning ? if you don?t have your Recovery Media, the notebook will have shipped with a Recovery Partition which can be accessed at boot - ie shutdown the notebook, then start tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on. A full guide on this can be found on the following link. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961 Regards, DP-K

Hi, If you're running Windows 8 or 8.1, see the Microsoft page on the following link. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/forgot-windows-password Note:  If you have a Local Account, try the free application Here. If you're running Windows 7, Vista etc, try the following. Using another PC, download the application on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. PC Login Now When the download has completed, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer - this will result in another file appearing which is the disc image ( .ISO ) that you need to burn to a blank CD. You will now need to use an application such as ImgBurn to burn this ISO correctly to a blank CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. When the disc has been created, shutdown the PC you can't log-in on, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up Menu, insert the CD, select Boot Options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter - you may also have to 'Press any key' to boot from the CD if asked. Follow the instructions on the guide Here to remove the current password. Regards, DP-K

We are experiencing an interesting error for a number of devices throughout the estate.
All impacted devices are Win7 SP1 in domain A, and all users logging on to the devices exist in domain B.
Each time a user executes a password reset from the Windows Security/Logon interface (usually as a result of password policy prompts) the user is presented with a classic Trust relationship error that would normally indicate the device is no longer connected
to the domain. The error itself however seems to be a red herring.
Once the user clicks OK past the error, the user can continue as normal subsequent relogs can be done successfully with the new password set by the user and the device itself has not lost trust with the domain. My only explanation for this is that for some
reason the error is being generated by the DC on domain B after it successfully changes the users password to say "hold on, the device you're on isn't on my domain", but I'm unsure why this would have started occurring especially in a two-way forest
I'm a little stumped with this, all googling and searching through these forums seem to direct me to issues whereby the device itself does actually lose connection to the domain for various reasons, rather than just a misleading error.
I don't suppose anyone has ever come across anything similar before?

I have 2 problems with Outlook Express in XP that I never had in any other version of Windows. First of all, my password is saved to get on the net, just like in other versions. But, with XP, everytime I open OE, it prompts me to give the password again, even though the SAVE box is checked. I am the only user of this computer so it's unnecessary to have a password just for OE.

Also, OE frequently gives me a small popup box saying it has encountered a problem and must shut down. I write about 100 emails a day and this is getting really annoying. I have to save what I'm writing after each sentence so it will appear in DRAFTS after I turn on OE again ( and type my ^%&* password AGAIN).

Any suggestions as to how to disable this password feature would be appreciated. Also any theories on why OE shuts itself down so often? NOTE: you're talking to a real dummie here hahaha
