Disconnected/reconnected monitor. Now no sound from speakers

Q: Disconnected/reconnected monitor. Now no sound from speakers

Hey so, I disconnected my desktop monitor from my tower and reconnected it to my work computer as I was working from home today. Finished work and fast forward and reconnect my monitor to my desktop and I can't hear anything from my external speakers. I'm not using the speakers on the monitor as I'm connected using a DVI cable. Can't hear any sound on Youtube or Facebook. BUT, if I go to the sound settings and then manage audio devices and test my speakers, they are definitely making distinctive test pings. I even placed my hands on both speakers and I can feel the test jingle as well as hear it. I have tried disabling and re-enabling the speakers in my sound settings. Still no luck!

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a hp pavilion mx70 monitor with side speakers and usually they work perfectly fine with my usual harddrive but I have swapped it over to an NEC Powermate VT harddrive (hp harddrive had the motherboard die on me and i haven't gotten a new one yet)

Anyway, the sound coming through the hp monitor is really soft even though all volumes are turned to max. Is this a problem with the driver for the monitor or is it something to do with the harddrive? I'm really not sure where to even look to find how to fix this problem.

thanks,

My computer monitor has built in speakers. They use to work fine and all of a sudden I can't hear sound out of my monitor speakers. I have speakers that I can hook-up to my computer, and when I connect them the sound works fine, but if I choose not to connect the speakers and just use the monitor speakers like before. I can't get any sound. I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. I've ran all types of sound checks and I don't have any errors on my sound...but just can't get the sound coming from my monitor anymore. Can you please advise what you think the problem may be?

Hello

I have a Dell 3847 desktop running Win 8.1 My monitor is an HP W2072a with two internal speakers. I originally hooked pc to monitor with a vga cable and plugged the sound cable into the audio out on the pc. I went through the system check and it recognized the speakers and when I checked for latest drivers it said they were already at the latest. I made surfe speakers on the pc and the monitor were set high. Could not get any sound through the system sound effects tests.

I then hooked the pc up to my desktop external speakers and all was well! So the sound card works! I did not use the audio cable that came with the monitor. Could it be bad? I doubt it.
e
Checked with HP support and a not very knowledgeable guy said to get sound I needed to go DVI instead of vga. My pc has only vga and hdmi so I took a cable that went hdmi on the pc to dvi on the monitor and no sound again.

Any ideas?

Hi.

When you plug in your headphones make sure they are not muted. In the bottom right of the screen click on your speakers icon. Worth a shot especially if they work in Ubuntu.

If that is correct then right click on the icon and then click on 'Volume Control Options' and make surethe settings are correct for your headphones.

I have my monitor connected to my gpu via displayport and have the monitor set to default device under sound playback but still no sound. When I try and play some audio I can see the little sound bar move up and down but nothing from the speakers.
Same problem also happens when I plug my headphones directly into monitor.

I recently had my computer wiped clean and had Windows 10 reinstalled.  Had all my file, etc. moved to separate hard drive and then had them put back.  All went smoothly I'm told. When at home I plug a 24" monitor (which has no speakers so I got separate plug-in speakers)  (Asus) into my laptop.  Before the reinstall when the laptop was connected to the monitor and I was viewing only on the monitor, the speakers would work.  Now the only speakers I can get to work are the laptop speakers.  How can I reconnect the separate speakers that are connected to my 24" monitor? I've read the "old" solutions from several years ago that are posted here on the HP Discussion Board, but nothing worked.  Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the same issue in windows 10 home 64 bit-
HDMI monitor no speakers-no sound from anywhere when connected?

When I right click on the volume control, the options it shows are:
open volume control
playback devices
recording devices
sounds
volume control options

It does not give me a properties option.

Then I went to control panel and searched for sound. Then I saw the screen below. There was a Digital Audio as well and I clicked 'Don't use this device(disable)' on it by mistake and clicked OK.

Now, I only have Speakers option. How do I get the Digital Audio option back in here? I think that will solve my original problem.

Right click on the volume control and then Properties,

When you connect the HDMI it becomes the default output device, even though it has no speakers.

You need to change this back to "Speakers" and set as default.

on 2/17/16 [Personal information removed] and again on 2/26/16 had live chats with HP to correct the issue with no longer getting sound thru my HP 750-114 to my Dell Monitor S2415H.   Sound thru the monitor works perfectly until I use some of my programs or an upload appears.  Both times the HP tech had to uninstall sound driver and reinstall the driver.  Each time I spent at least 1.5 hours on live chat while they corrected the issue.  The last correction lasted less than 24 hours and the red X at the speaker on the task bar appeared which told me to connect external speakers.  The sound works with external speakers connected but I am not happy with that solution as originally it worked fine for at least two months using my monitor. The last technician even had my dell monitor set as the default sound monitor. Even with the external speakers plugged in if I insert a CD I do not get any sound!!!!!. I am extremely frustrated with HP and Windows 10 regarding this on going issue.  My last HP has less problems over the 6 years I had it compared to this new computer.  Unfortunately I know just enough to get myself in trouble with the computer so unless I get step by step instructions I am reluctant to uninstall the driver and re install the sound driver myself. FRUSTRATED BEYOND BELIEF!! Regards, Bobby-left

Hi,

I just bought a Dell 22" HD monitor (Model - S2216H) and there are 2 integrated speakers installed at the bottom of the monitor which are not working. I have already run the set up CD and tried other things too. I have installed Windows 10 on my PC. Any suggestions so that I can get these integrated (2X3 Watts) speakers working?

A:No sound from the integrated speakers of my Dell HD monitor S2216H

You have to connect the monitor to your sound card or connect using HDMI cable. Speakers do not work without an audio signal from the computer. Your monitor has Audio In (and Audio Off so check that in the instructions) and HDMI that can handle picture and sound. DVI and VGA do not have sound and require separate audio cable.
It is important to mention your model computer and how the monitor is connected to the video card.

While playing some games like Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout New Vegas and Age of Empires III Asian Dynasties, the computer crashes and I have to press and hold the power button for it to turn off. It happens frequently in AoE III Asian Dynasties and never happens in Team Fortress 2 for example.

I found this thread using Google, looks similar.

A:Monitor goes black and speakers make loud buzzing sound

Your symptoms reek of hardware failure. My initial suspicion is your video card. Though let's run through some testing.

First thing's first: some initial troubleshooting. Check inside your PC for any dust or slow/stopped fans. Ensure that proper airflow is taking place (cold outside air in, hot inside air out). While you're inside, go ahead and re-seat your video card, as well as your memory sticks, and reconnect your drives' power and data cables (both drive and motherboard ends). Check things after all of this, and see if the issue has been resolved or has been very noticeably reduced. If not resolved, continue onward.

Before the testing, we'll want a couple HWinfo logs from ya. Set it to Sensors only at startup, then have it log two instances: one for idle, and one for high load (gaming, etc.). Make sure each log records a decent amount of time (~15 minutes). So we can get some good solid averages and discover trends going on.

Once that's done, on to the hardware diagnostic tests:

GPU: MemtestG80/CL - If your video card supports either of the tests, run twice.
RAM: Memtest86+ - Run 7+ passes.
CPU: Prime95 - Torture Test, Large FFTs, 9+ hours.
Disk: Seatools - All basic tests. No Fix all or advanced ones.

Note that these tests (besides MemtestG80/CL) are available on the UBCD. It's also preferable you run them on there as it offers a light, reliable environment to run them on. Note that Prime95 is called Mersenne Prime Test in the UB... Read more

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

A:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Using Access XP.

I have one form that is bound to OLE objects (photos). I was entering a new record and got an error message that said. the connection with the OLE server was lost.. I rebooted the system and thought that would take care of it. However, I still got the same error message. I created a new database and the same error occurred. I repaired Office, Reinstalled office and did all the things above with all the same results.

I also tried to insert a photo into Word, and it told me that the photo was a Paint Shop pro and could not open at this time. So I tried a mail merge and that worked.
Anyway, any suggestions on how to repair?

Thanks in advance!

Details: ASUS M11AA desktop UEFI

Running Win10 on an HDD, I disconnected the sata cable to it and tested out an SSD on a diff sata cable. Installed 10 on that just for fun.

Took the SSD out, reconnected the HDD sata cable and it wont boot. The HDD is seen in the bios but in the boot menu it is not seen. I see items such as UEFI: Sandisk(my acronis usb stick), UEFI: P3 DVDRW, UEFI: Kingston(my win10 install usb stick), Windows Boot Manager but not UEFI: P2: Toshiba which im pretty sure is what my HDD was.

Windows Boot Manager goes to UEFI setup.

Any clues before I try Win10 repair from the Kingston stick?

Hello FrostyWinnipeg Welcome to the Ten Forums!

If you are keeping the two flash drives plugged in try unplugging both to start or the San Disk in order to boot live from the Kingston. Instead of the Upgrade to Repair or slapping on another clean install you will first want to try a few things out like the Repair Startup tool and going to the Command prompt option run the DiskPart tool in order to have that list the drives with the List Disk command. Once you ID the correct drive and select that type in "active" to see the primary made bootable.

The other thing you may end up doing is double checking the data cable you unplugged to be sure that is all the way in at both ended and didn't jar loose at the board end by chance. You have need a can of compressed air to blast out any dust or debris that could have got lodged in as well.

I have a toshiba a205-s5800, it is just out of warranty. all of a sudden the sound has stopped working. I have reinstalled the sound driver, still no luck.

A:No sound played trough speakers but sound works from headphones

If you are not able to listening any sound even error beep, then it seems hardware fault inside your system.
It may speaker goes faulty. You should consult your computer hardware vendor.

I have a problem with audio on system speakers Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1. I have exhausted all my ideas.
The audio is fine through plugged in headset but through system speakers it starts loud and fades away to very faint audio coming from two speakers.Could this be some type of Auto volume control? This problem exists with ITunes with local media, DIRECTV, Slacker, YouTube.
This has existed through several W10 upgrades. I am on the latest W10. No updates available. I have used Dell Auto Update and verified through the website no other drivers are missing or outdated
With the deal Audio I restored to default, disabled equalizer, audio and microphone enhancement. No luck
I have removed audio devices from device manager rebooted to same results. Any other ideas?

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. If Support Assist isn't installed on system then I suggest you click on the link below and stroll down to 'Download Now'.

I have an MSI 785GTM-E45 Mother Board. I have no sound coming from the speakers. Tried new speakers and still no sound. If I click on the speaker Icon on the bottom right it shows the speaker graph going up and down as sound is being produced. I tried the head phones and nothing coming from them either. I tried playing a CD and nothing from there either. I first noticed it when I was trying to play something from YOUTUBE and thought it might just be the site but then I tried off line as well. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. This is the first day that I have noticed it. Thanks for any help. I have checked all the settings I can think of but probably have missed something somewhere.

A:No sound from speakers but showing sound graph on speaker control

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Playback section, set your "Speakers" as the Default Playback device (if it's not now set). Then see if you have speaker and/or headphone sound.

I have no applications running at all in Windows. I have the system sound muted, but I still have some sound coming out of the speakers. It sounds like some talk radio. I also have all networking disabled. I have no idea where this is coming from.

How can I tell if any process on my computer is accessing the sound drivers?

A:Solved: computer sound muted but sound is still coming from speakers

In some cases, if the speakers are cheaply made and not sheilded, they can acutally pickup radio waves (especially if you live near a radio tower). Does the "Talk radio" continue if the speakers are on, while the computer is off?

I am getting a laptop. Right now I am deciding between regular "High Definition Audio 2.0" and a "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Laptop Sound Card with Wireless Receiver Bundle". The latter is 134 dollars more. Would the latter make the output of sound better on external speakers. Say if you're a DJ, and you use the laptop, would the sound coming out of the speakers at those high volumes be much better if you have the better soundcard? Or does it not have any effect on the output sounds? Thanks!

A:Do Sound Cards Effect The Output of Sound To External Speakers?

It affects the external output even more than the one from the integrated speakers.
