live messenger 2009 freezes in video calls

Q: live messenger 2009 freezes in video calls

I have a HP Pavillon dv6000 with an intergrated webcam, and it comes pre-installed with Cyberlink Youcam software (and in case u ask, yes I do have the latest update of it). Im using Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and Service Pack 1.

Video calls with people who do not have Windows live messenger 2009 (or any of the beta versions) is perfectly fine and show is sending and viewing each others webcam. With WLM09 users, I can send and view my contacts' webcam just fine like always.

However since I installed the new messenger I cannot video call other contacts with the new messenger. The second I click the Video tab to start a call, my messenger freezes, and the same happens if I accept their call.

I found one way of going around it, under audio and video set up if I do not set the CyberLink Web Camera Filter as the webcam I want to use, i.e. I select the default Simplo Webcam, which is the webcam with no software, it works! The only problem is the video quality is TERRIBLE and dark when I choose Simplo Webcam for some strange reason. I have always used CyberLink in all my previous versions of messenger and it worked fine. All the advanced webcam settings, brightness contrast blah blah blah, are the same so I dont know why the video quality is so poor..

In the preview in audio and video set up the video is very clear and crisp either way. Thats about all the information I know.

Is the problem with the Messenger or Youcam? Can I improve the quality of the video output without using Cyberlink? Or is there anyway of getting the messenger not to freeze when calling another WLM09 user, with cyberlink filter set as my webcam? I know you're probably thinking why dont I just get on with life and use the poor quality video calls, but I really want this.

Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: live messenger 2009 freezes in video calls

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: live messenger 2009 freezes in video calls

Has there been any development with this as I am having exactly the same issue. Video Calls are fine with people using an older version of messenger, but if they are using the current version like me it freezes as soon as we try to connect (if they call me, or I call them). I have tried the "fix" you sugested and it sort of works, but as you said, the video quality is extremely poor, and very laggy.
My laptop is also a DV6000 series but running Vista Ultimate x64 SP2
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

I'm trying to use the latest version on Windows Live Messenger Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726) to make video calls. I have a working webcam and microphone setup already. The problem is that the option to start a video call is faded out, therefore meaning I can't click on it. All the different ways to start a video call are faded out, which means I can't click on it. All the setting under "Tools" -> "Set Up Audio and Video" are correct. I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have a Microsoft Lifecam VX 1000 (includes microphone) that is working perfectly fine.

What can I do in order to get video calls in Windows Live Messenger?

Thanks in advance.

A:Solved: Can't make video calls in Windows Live Messenger

I haven't used Windows Live Messenger for quite some time . You might try uninstalling it . Restart the computer then download and install again .

I presently use Skype for video calls .

Hello Tech Support Guy Forum,

I have been using MSN Messenger for years and enjoyed this IM program, but have been having problems using the Video Call option when trying to talk and see my contacts.
Whenever I select the Video Call action, the whole MSN Messenger freeze up and I will have to use the Task Manager to close it down.
If I choose the webcam invitation and the regular audio call, using each invitation by themselves and respectively, they work just fine.

I tried to go to Microsoft's support site, but seriously, it's a jungle. None of the FAQs were helpful to me.
My webcam seems to work just fine, but just not that function of MSN Messenger 2009.
Hope you guys can help me out (my system information is on my profile).

Okey, so I started having problems with it just instantly crashing as soon as I logged in so I removed it and thought Id revert back to an older version.

When I try to install these older versions it either shows error msges or that a newer version is already installed. When I run the latest messenger installation it also says that it's already installed.

I have removed it with the program called Final Uninstallation but it still wont work. So im stuck with not having any messenger on this computer since I cant install or uninstall messenger on this computer.

Hi everyone. I reinstalled my computer a couple of days ago. Now, every time I check my e-mail on Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger runs automatically. I hate that, because it takes like 10 seconds to load it up.

Before I reinstalled the computer, that didn't happen. Can anyone give me a solution, please. I've been looking in google but I found nothing.

I already UNCHECKED the options that appear on Messenger which are: "Automatically run messenger when I log on to Windows", and "Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet".

I Unchecked them but the problem continous.

Please... I'm tired of that. Probbably if I use Firefox that wouldn't happen but I want to use Internet Explorer 8.

By the way, I have Windows Xp Professional, with Service Pack 3, Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Live Messenger 2009.

I really hope you can help me...

A:Help with Windows Live Messenger 2009

Are you checking your hotmail via Outlook Express? If so, go to tools, options, and uncheck the box "automatically log on to windows messenger".
I think that might be Windows Messenger starting (not Windows LIVE Messenger aka MSN Messenger).
If it starts up at startup, run it (go to C:\Program Files\Messenger and run Msmsgs.exe) and go to tools, options, preferences tab, and uncheck run windows messenger when windows starts.

Anyone having problems with opening Photo while on chat screen?

Every time I click on Photo while on chat screen the program closes, then i have to log on again to get back to the chat screen with the person I was chatting with. The other thing is if I click on Call a Computer the program closes. If I try to click on File to share a file the program closes. If i try to Call a phone I get an error Code 80ee0080.

I have uninstall and re-install three times. I also went through the registry to make sure Windows Live everything was out. I Re-started the computer and re-installed and i get the same thing. However, the web-cam work and i can chat.

I had Windows Live Messenger 8 and everything was working fine until I got the pop-up box telling me about the new version and I must upgrade. The thing is you don't have a choice.

Any one have any idea what may be happening or how I can fix this problem...

simple fix will be for you to create a new user id.. then try to log in.. and see if it works
Then try to test it with your old ID.. it can be that on your boyfriend's profile setting the webcam settings are different to yours so check that as well

From the sound of things, you should be getting sound. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? There might just be a small glitch that?s causing your sounds to disappear.

Try that and let me know how it goes.

Hey all,

After upgrading last week, to Build 14.0.8064.206, everytime I try to start a Video Call with someone either they can't see me or themselves, or I can't see me or them. Essentially at least one of the views will not be working and is replaced by the 'no webcam' icon. Signing out & back in again doesn't solve the problem, rather it changes the view that doesn't work (i.e. at first I can't see the cam view of me on my comp. Then, after signing out and in, I can now see me, but the other person can't). I hope that makes some sort of sense.

Also, the 'View my webcam option is greyed out, but from running Audio & Video Setup on the main WLM window, the cam seems to be functioning correctly.

I'm not too sure what further info you would like me to give, but am more than happy to produce anything if required. I am running XP MCE 2005 (SP3) and using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam if that helps any.

Thanks in advance

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application 10 times with deep cleaning.

Nothing seems to work.

HELP

A:Windows Live Messenger 2009 doesn't send and receive some of the messages

Hello,

This could be caused by a number of things, such as a network issue.

To help isolate the issue, could you try a different program? I recommend Digsby: http://www.digsby.com/?utm_campaign=...tm_content=vid

You can just plug in your MSN ID, and chat with people without them even knowing you switched.

If the problem exists there, we can work on a network issue.

Hello,

I am new here and can not find any answers to my issue (from MSFT or Dell). I have a Dell XPS 9000,i7-920, 12gb DDR3, AMD Radeon 5850, Win 7 64 Home Ultimate. Everything was working fine until I installed Windows Live Messenger and that's when my issue started. My PC would freeze everytime I booted up and Windows Live started up. I would then have to do a Hard Reboot. Sometimes it would get past that and it would freeze when I opened up IE8, Firefox, Chrome, MSN. I reinstalled the OS and as soon as I installed WLM or MSN the problem would arise. I reinstalled the OS a 2nd time and do not have this issue (since I have not installed WLM or MSN). Is there a compatibility issue with the latest build of Windows Live Messenger/MSN with Win 7 64 Home Ultimate. I NEED WLM since I have a MSN account. Thanks for all responses.

Is there a compatibility issue with the latest build of Windows Live Messenger/MSN with Win 7 64 Home Ultimate.

^I very much doubt it; I use 64-bit home premium and no problems here at all. Maybe it was a corrupted MSN install; dare u try again?

Hello,

When ever I first sign in, whenever I open an IM window or get an IM, whenever I do anything in Live Messenger it freezes for like 20 seconds and then I can use it. After it freezes it won't freeze again until I come back into it. So if I minimize it or open Firefox or IE and then come back, it freezes for like 20 seconds again.

Why is it doing this? I have no idea why... it just does. It did it even before my last format of my HD. I run Vista Ultimate SP1 with all available updates before SP2 including most optional updates except for Dreamscene, sound schemes, and extra games. Also, I have used Windows to delete games and printer services since I never play the games and do not use a printer.

I run the latest version of Live Messenger and have NOT modded it or used any sort of cracks on it. I read on another forum that there's a crack for it that does something and it can cause this, just wanted to make it clear that this is the original version from the website.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ok for the last month or 2 my comp started freezing every 15-20 minutes. I took it to a repair shop to get it fixed and they said they could find nothing wrong with it. And that it never froze on them. So I bring it home and hook it back up but my net was out. I decided to play a game and no problems at all. I started to think that it was my dvd rom since that had to be replaced. Well my net came back on and I signed into msn and no later then 5 minutes my comp froze. So i tested the theory and it seems when ever I surf the net with my msn on my comp freezes. The guy at the repair shop said it was probably a corrupted file.

So I pose the problem to you, how do I find the file and get it fixed? I have repaired msn, and uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Any ideas? Btw I use Firefox, if I try to use IE in any way the comp freezes automatically, I have windows xp media edition. Thanks!

Do you have those stupid kiwee smiley things? Or other free "smiley" add-ons? Nine times out of ten, that's what does it.

The rest of the time it's those stupid ads on the bottom of MSN. There used to be a hack out there to get rid of them, but I've no idea if it still exists.

Everytime I log in to Windows Live Messenger on my desktop (and now my laptop, though that could just be it derping up. It's really old), it freezes up. I'm doing virus scans with both AVG and EEK right now. Do you want me to post the results if they find anything?

Whenever a contact of mine with a weird SYMBOL in their nickname decides to chat with me, my computer freezes up.

Weird symbols include those not found on a keyboard: Fancy stars, Weird circles, Heart shapes and the lots of them.
I am not talking about emoticons. Just weird symbols that you have to copy and past from Word document or some other way.

*EDIT*
While trying to copy some symbols from my contact list, I clicked on this contact with the symbols, and my computer froze up. Thank goodness for Firefox and its session savers.

Anyway, does anyone know the roots of my computer's behavioural problems? I hate having to force restart each time someone with a fancy nickname chats with me. Sometimes I get lucky, but once I alt-tab back into the chat window, it hangs.

trying to bring up task manager does not help,
jamming my esc button like a madman doesn't either.

h3lp pl0x.

A:Windows Live Messenger hangs; freezes up computer.

You said "pl0x", you sound like someone I know

Anyway, that is a very strange problem. Try reinstalling MSN?

What happens if you come across that symbol anywhere else, such as looking for it on the internet? Does it crash then?

I can get video on my lan just great but not outside of it. Instant messaging and voice is fine - just no video. My camera works fine as I can send email video with no problem using various programs. Would it be a good idea to use a static ip and open some ports in my gateway in order to get video? My firewall is disabled and the gateway firewall is set to basic. Would DMZ help even more? Would disabling Nat be wise? I have been reading up but am not sure where to draw the line. It's not worth opening my box up to the world in order to get a video. However I did buy a webcam and would like to use it. This problem was with msn messenger only. I have since downloaded msn messenger live 8.0 but have not tried it yet. Maybe I am writing for no reason and it will work with live. However I would appreciate any thoughts on how far I should disable my defenses. Another thing I should mention is that my kids say their online gaming is working just fine and that I should not change a thing. They play D&D online and World of Warcraft. After reading up on gateways I find it amazing that they can play any game at all online. I have visited portforward.com and according to them everything you do needs a static Ip and forwarded ports. With NAT an DHCP enabled and a hardware firewall, I would think that a connection would not even take place. I wanted to use my hammer again to tweak the video but took a breadth and decided to write first. Thanks in advance for all... Read more

Every time someone sends me a message on MSN, all of MSN just chokes up and freezes for a bit. It's especially annoying with people who send me tons of short one- or two-word messages, because it just makes it slow down to a crawl and takes a couple of minutes to unfreeze after they've sent them - and in the meantime I can't read or respond to *anyone's* messages.

I'm using 64-bit Win7 on a laptop with a 1.9GHz Turion and 3GB of RAM. There's no reason msn shouldn't work perfectly fine on this machine. It works perfectly fine on my old laptop with only a Pentium M 1.6GHz chip and 1GB of RAM, as well as on my parents' desktop which has similar specs to this computer (and is using 32-bit Win7).

So what's going on here?

A:Windows Live Messenger freezes when people send me messages

also, forgot to mention: The version I'm using is 2009 Build 14.0.8089.726
