HP Beats Backlit keyboard stopped lighting

Q: HP Beats Backlit keyboard stopped lighting

My backlit kayboard worked for many years. I know how to turn it off and on. I have not made any configuration changes to my machine when the backlight stopped working. There were a couple of times when all i had to do was hit the f5 key a couple of times for it to come on. Now it does nothing. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Chuck

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello!I've been using my Latitude E6410 for a few years now and it's by far the best laptop I've ever had.Recently, my backlit keyboard stopped working. It's something that you don't appreciate enough until you lose it... :) So I got a new backlit keyboard for it and installed it, but it still doesn't work.I wonder if it could be a problem that's unrelated to the keyboard itself - maybe some motherboard issue / bios bug / whatever. Or maybe the new keyboard I got has its backlit feature broken.Any ideas? Please note it's been my computer for a while now, so I know all about how to activate it (alt+right arrow / bios setting). also note that it doesn't work even before the OS loads, where it used to work perfectly earlier.Thank you very much!

Before I look into doing that, has anyone found any other solution? It seems that the backlit keyboard on my Yoga 900-13ISK stopped working after an update, and it's been a few months now, so I might have to restore back pretty far and would like to avoid it.

I've had this laptop two weeks now and the backlit keyboard has just stopped working. According to Quickset, it is "on" and I've toggled between using the Ambient Light Sensor and not but to no avail. The backlight was working fine up until this morning and now just seems dead in the water. I've restarted the computer a few times but no luck.

When you start the notebook and before Windows loads does the keyboard light up?  You can also check in safemode, start the system while tapping F8 and choose safemode.  Log on to Windows, at any time in this process is the backlit on?  If not then there is likely a problem.
If you aren't able to get the backlit on anymore no matter what you try please shoot me a private message.  On the Private message please include your name, address, phone number and the service tag of the notebook.  I will be happy to research possible service options.  If I can't help personally, I can certainly get you in contact with someone that can.

I've tried downloading the latest bios and resetting the keyboard options in OMEN CONTROL as well as pressing the F5 button but nothing works.  The speaker lights are working fine and can still be customized through CONTROL however the rest of the keyboard won't light up regardless of whatever color or zones I choose through OMEN.  I've read in the forum that other users have had this problem after a bios update and clicking th F5 has worked for some users but it still has not for me.  My laptop just fell out of the one year warranty and it would be disheartening to lose the ability of a backlit keyboard for a $2000 laptop just because of a bios update.  Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

A:Can I replace my non backlit keyboard with a backlit keyboar...

OK here is the Service Manual: Manual The keyboards are not sold by HP as a separate part: only sold with the whole top cover. See p. 20 The Manual does not list any keyboard/top cover as having a backlight. However, the keyboard map on p. 15 shows the f5 action key as activating a backlight on "select models".  From this I gather that there is a place on the motherboard to connect a backlight cable if the keyboard has one. However, extracting the old keyboard from the top cover and replacing it with just the replacement keyboard is not easy and there are no directions in the Manual for that procedure. I would want to see one of these alleged backlit keyboards. Bottom line, it is possible, but I would be leery. Do you have an f5 action key with the backlight symbol on it? Have you tried it to see if maybe your keyboard is backlit? If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I just got a T470. Excellent computer! I got the Core i7-7600U model with 4gb of memory and a 500gb non-SSD hard disk (T470 20HDCTO1WW, ordered directly from Lenovo). The 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM I got from Crucial work without problem (yes, I ran a memory tester) ? although, yes, it?s a moderate pain to take off the back panel (even if you have a special plastic tool for doing so). It?s a really great laptop; I like how clear and bright the display is as well as how fast it runs. That said, on to my question: I got the model with the non-backlit keyboard. Is is possible to upgrade this model to have a backlit keyboard? Here is the information I have gotten from my research: * The dealers selling T470 backlit keyboards warn that it may not be possible to get the backlight to work if the motherboard does not support it (for example, https://www.amazon.com/ThinkPad-01AX569-SN20L72890-Backlit-Keyboard/dp/B0727S1H14/ where they claim ?Please check whether your laptop can support backlit keyboard or not before placing the order, if can not, the backlit function of our keyboard will not work!? or https://www.amazon.com/CHNASAWE-Replacement-Backlit-Keyboard-Thinkpad/dp/B071KWWW21/ with a similar ?If your original/old keyboard does not have the backlit, this keyboard backlit will not work.? warning) * There is nothing in Lenovo?s T470 service manual at https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/pubs/t470/html_en/index_en.html#Replacing_t... If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task!  From:  http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04472797.pdf >>  Full-sized spill-resistant keyboard; optional back-lit keyboard keeps you productive in low-light settings lists that such an option is available, or maybe, was available when this model was first manufactured. From: http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04551620-2.pdf Keyboard with backlight and pointing sick for use only on HP EliteBook 850 G2 Notebook PC and HP EliteBook 750 G2 Notebook PC computer models (includes backlight, keyboard, and pointing stick cables):       For use in Canada776475-DB1

Hello, Recently bought a HP omen, in the first few weeks of use worked fine however recently the backlit keyboard has stopped ligting up, the only lights that now work are the on/off button and the animated speakers, all of the keys, including the macro keys now have no backlight. Firstly I looked to see if it was a problem with the HP Omen control centre but all that happens is when changing the colour it will light up for a matter of half a second then blip off again, I have the LED on full brightness and have tried all the colours, the fact that it turns on for half a second then off again makes me doubt it is a problem with the lighting system and more to do with windows. I have tried uninstalling the Omen control centre and reinstalling it but that had no effect at all. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of a way to fix it as it is a major part of the laptop that isnt working and a major downside for me as I game in a room with very low light so having a backlit keyboard for me is essential. Any help would be much appreciated!

Dear harrycypress101 - I understand that your new OMEN's backlit keyboard is not working.  I did a little research, and apparently, after a BIOS update, the keyboard backlighting turns off.  I don't know if you did a BIOS update, but pressing F5 will turn it back on. If F5 does not resolve the issue, then make sure your OMEN is up to date using the HP Support document Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8). If neither of these suggestions resolve the issue, you might contact HP for service. Since your OMEN is new it should still be under warranty. Check your warranty status by browsing to Check your warranty status . Good luck dhtp

Hi NLBBS,
Was the system shipped with backlit keyboard? When was it working fine last? Have you tried the fn + f6 key to enable the keyboard backlit?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1U16J69 - restart the system and check.
Also check in Windows Mobility Center if there is an option to enable the backlit.
If you are not sure if the system was shipped with backlit keyboard or not, then enter the service tag here - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - and check the original system configuration.

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Hello, really wasnt sure if I should put this under BSOD or not but anyways I have an odd problem. Since the beginning of April at random times something happens to my computer that causes not only a black screen but my keyboard and mouse to not light up as well and my CPU fans are at full speed.

(And its not the type of black screen that people normally get with the white mouse cursor on the screen. Its a complete loss of signal between my graphics card and my monitor.) This has happened a lot and amazingly every single time when I was away from my computer so I cant pin point exactly what causes it.

The only thing I can say is that I am usually running 2 problems when it happens. VMware + Web browser w/Sandboxie. I am sure I have a lot of other conflicting software as well but I didn't install anything new other than Microsoft updates and these programs worked before in the past without any problems.

My graphics driver was up to date when this happened, so I downgraded and it still happens... I ran stress tests, though maybe not long enough? I feel like this is a driver issue/software conflict more than anything unless my graphics card is going but it is pretty new. It wouldnt be the HDMI cable because then why would my keyboard and mouse stop lighting up and my fans race?

I am extremely well informed in the malware area so I highly doubt its that. I uploaded the log information.

It got worse when i tryed to fix it I put it under a fan and it made most keys not respond
some keys were working but i decided to change the keyboard.
( i didnt power it off and just used a usb keyboard)

I have replaced the keyboard from ebay
My question is about the back lit strip.
My old keyboard; had a ribben cable coming out to LED light node and additional black plastic wraping on the backside of keyboard.
I broke the ribben from the old keyboard ( no not the regular ribben cable )
I reconnected the new keyboard which; did not have led lights or black plastic
I go into keyboard on control pannel and it says my keyboard is connected (1 to usb & 2 to the computers port Standard P/S2 keyboard& is working fine
.( it isnt working at all)
