Unable To Connect Dual Monitors - Does Not Detect - Lenovo Y900i

Q: Unable To Connect Dual Monitors - Does Not Detect - Lenovo Y900i

I have just purchased a Lenovo Y900i and I am having an issue with connecting dual monitors on my PC.My computer has two HDMI ports and one VGA port. However, only one HDMI port actually seems to work and the VGA does not.I have test both monitors and neither monitor is faulty. When I connect the monitors to the non-working HDMI port or to the VGA; they seem to sense that they are connected to something, but obviously do not display anything. However, when I go to the display options in System, it does not detect the monitor.I have also tried going into the NVDIA Control Panel to try to detect the device, but that is not working either.I have tried changing resolution settings, but to no avail. I have checked BIOS and there seems to be nothing about display or port options that would assist me in activating any particular port.I have a feeling that the issue has something to do with adaptor settings, but alas I am not tech savvy enough to figure this one out by myself.Currently both monitors are connected to HDMI ports.Model: Lenovo Y900iOperating System: Windows 10Graphics Card: NVDIA GeForce GTX 1080

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My small company does not have an IT department, so they cannot give me guidance.  They gave me a Lenovo ideapad FLEX 4-1570.  I had wished to connect it to my dual monitors, as I had previously done with my old Dell (in a docking station).  Can I buy anything that will allow me to connect my 2 monitors to this new Lenovo?

Hi guys,

Rite I have got a Dell Dimension E521 desktop, and it has two VGA ports at the back. Basically I want to have dual monitors, however when I plug the other monitor into the VGA port nothing happens. I have rebooted and used the display control in both XP and Windows 7 (recently transferred). In the W7 display Screen Resolution window, when trying to select to display two monitors it states "Available display output on: Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)"

Would someone be able to share some light to why this is not working?

If you need any more information let me know! Thanks

A:Cannot Detect Dual Monitors

Forgot the specs:

Windows 7 Pro
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
1.00GB RAM
Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (Microsoft Corporation WDDM) ATI Technologies

Hope that covers most of it!

I set up my dual monitors yesterday. This is how I have it configured:

1. Monitor 1 cable attached to HP DisplayPort into computer via what looks to me like a USB type connection.
2. Monitor 2 D-Sub cable into computer via D-sub cable connection.

Both monitors are on and working; however, monitor 2 is a duplicate of monitor 1. I tried changing the Display settings to extend, but the computer does not detect a second monitor.

I did what was suggested by Microsoft: shut down computer and/or unplug the cable and plug back in. Doing this twice did not help.

I downloaded LGs Dual Smart Solution driver to possibly fix this issue as well, but it did not. I contacted LG for support, but they could not figure it out - thinking it is a PC issue and not their driver. I modified the Dual Smart Solution driver with
a recommended modification from LG, but it did not fix the issue. I also reversed the cables as suggested, but that did not help.

Is there another solution for this problem or is it just the PC itself?

Both of my monitors are working fine, but it is just the same picture being duplicated. Hi, Working in a helpdesk, got a user that has a brand new X1 Carbon 6th gen. Asking this here because there isn't a general category. Which range of Lenovo laptops would support dual-monitors with least hassle? I think I'm asking which models have displayport outputs as that seems the preferred route. The product selection system on the website doesn't allow this granularity of filtering so one would have to look through the entire range! Thanks, Rob.

I would assume that I can connect this through the e-port2 advanced port replicator, but can't find any documentation to confirm this and see a forum post indicating the e5570 might limit it to 1920x1200 for some odd reason.
For info, it has the AMD R7 video chip.

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

A:Unable to connect to 3 monitors to Ultra Dock (Thinkpad W540) in Advanced Mode BIOS Setting

So I fixed the issue for myself and just wanted to post in case somebody else had the same issue.  I took the following steps to fix the issue:[Background: BIOS is in "Standard" display mode to begin with; I had already updated the docking station's firmware first with a program called fwdphb03.exe and then with Lenovo's update utility.]1) In Windows, I uninstall drivers for the Intel Graphics and K1100 dedicated card.2) Restart, go into BIOS, switch to "Advanced" mode under the Display tab.  I also have the option selected to start up on the docks in the BIOS Display tab.3) Booted into Windows (8.1) and it looked like the Intel Graphics drivers were automatically downloaded. I then ran Lenovo's System Update utility to get the latest video drivers.  Under the optional tab in the Lenovo update utility, I selected the "Optimus" drivers and hit download/install.  It installed, and I had to restart.4) Booted into Windows again, ran Lenovo update utility again, and again it had a video driver to install when I checked for updates.  I installed that, had to restart again.5) Booted into windows, checked screen resolution and saw that no external monitors were showing.6) I then decided to get a driver straight from the source.  Downloaded: the following file from  Nvidia: 334.95-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe.  I ran the installation, it did a "Clean" installation with everything checked off. Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

I've noticed that when this happens my windows starts looking for additional monitors and finds 3: my actual screen, and 2 Generic non-pnp monitor.

If i press detect it will go back to 1 screen like i actually have,so it's rly annoying, especially when i have to unplug something from the pc and plug it back in whenever i want to start the computer. What can be the problem ? :/ ( just got home and my hands are rly cold, so sorry for bad english )

A:Auto-detect monitors

Try updating all drivers. For monitor drivers, usually windows update in windows 7 is pretty good about finding them. After that is complete, I would also try to update your video drivers. If you're having an issue everytime you're plugging in something to your computer, it could be a problem with the chipset drivers on your motherboard, which would control the usb ports.

A:Laptop does not detect monitors (Windows 10)

Hi SciTechPOKE, and welcome to TSG.

Exactly what kind of "USB to VGA" hardware are you using? If it is a converter box, you probably need to install drivers on the laptop to make it work.

Hello friends! I have an X1Carbon 6th gen that is less than 6 months old. Everything used to work just fine, but lately the following thing happens:  The laptop won't detect that I hotplug an external monitor. It will only detect it if I shutdown the laptop and press the power reset button for a few seconds. I learned this technique from this forum post:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-gen-HDMI-not-working/m-p/409265...However, my experience does not fit that post, since I never see the Thunderbolt controller in the device manager, even after I do power reset; still the monitors are detected just fine... For this reason I also can't install the thunderbolt sw and fw drivers since it tells me that the thunderbolt adaptor cannot be found. I have the latest BIOS firmware 0.1.31.  This is really annoying and really breaks my workflow... Any idea what might be the issue? A milion thanks! <3

Can anyone please tell me how to set up another monitor to work with my laptop computer? I've made a little progress, HOWEVER...

I would then like to open my Excel Workbook that has 2 sheets. One sheet is constant data input into various columns using my laptop. In the second sheet, I have formulas which constantly updates the data within a formatted table that I would like displayed onto the external monitor.

My project is to hook the laptop monitor into an overhead flat screen tv using HDMI cable. Then, while sitting in a corner with my laptop entering data, the results would be constantly updated for the audience to see.

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

I had the problem with the docking station and external monitors flickering or going blank for a few seconds. I did the firmware upgrade to the latest version for the 40A2 Ultra Dock. It now works a lot better. Great! The new problem is now that I need to replug the monitors after the W541 has been asleep after closing the lid for a while, otherwise it will not detect them. My W541 also has the latest video driver that I could download from Lenovo. When I close the lid for a few seconds only and the machine also goes to sleep and then I wake it up it does extend the display to my 2 external monitors again, though. Well, maybe it's not completely asleep yet, but the monitors are blank while the lid is closed for this short period of time. It seems like it suffers from amnesia after longer sleeping periods and it's a bit annoying having to pull the HDMI and display port cables every time... Thanks for your help,   Stefan
