No internet access on 5Ghz band with Dlink router

Q: No internet access on 5Ghz band with Dlink router

Until recently I used the 2.4GHZ band for my pc and my son used 5GHZ for his laptop on our D-link router.
A couple of weeks ago our provider installed a new Cisco modem/router-in-one (the old modem didn't work any more). We use the D-link as a second router. The 2.5Ghz band is no problem but my son doesn't get internet access with 5Ghz although if I log into the router I don't see anything wrong. Any help would be welcome.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: No internet access on 5Ghz band with Dlink router

can we see an xirrus screen shot - the d-link is still broadcasting both signals
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-inspectorguide-1-2-1-RevB-6.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

To post a screen shot of the active window.
Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

Windows 8
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool (From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type "snip" and press enter.
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button

Hi, I've had the DIR-825 router for more than a year now and I've never once been able to see the second SSID that broadcasts at 5Ghz. I've set up both bands with identical settings and I have a wireless N network adapter in my laptop, but it only ever sees the 2 Ghz SSID, never the 5 Ghz one. Shouldn't I be able to see it?

Thanks for any help!

A:Dlink DIR-825 5ghz band not visible

Only if the adapter is also a dual band..
Many adapters listed as Wireless "N" operate in only the 2.4 GHZ range (G). They use 3 channels to get 150 Mbps.

The D-LInk DWA-160 Extreme-N is dual band.
Also Netgear RangeMax WNDA 3100.

Hello

I recently got the newest NETGEAR router device, the NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router, and I am unable to connect to the 5GHz WiFi it provides on its Tri-band WiFi. I am currently only on its 2.4GHz WIFI, which I assume is lesser than the 5G. I am able to connect to the 5GHz on my smart phone, so I know it exists from the router. I am running a windows 8.1 currently on a desktop on an HP Envy 700-213 Desktop PC.

Edit: My computer supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n radio types - which supports 5GHz WiFi
My adapter is a Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Any ideas for why I am unable to connect to this WiFi?

A:Unable to connect to 5GHz Wifi on NETGEAR Tri-Band Router

The most likely explanation is that the wifi adapter in your HP Envy 700-213 doesn't support the 5Ghz band.

If you really want to connect at 5Ghz you will need to get a new wifi adapter for your computer.

Hi there!

So about 2 months ago, I purchased the AC53 when I moved in to a house share.
We have Virgin Media SuperHub that does both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
When I installed it, it worked fine and connected excellently to the 5G band, a few days ago however the 5G connection disappeared off my list and now it always connects me to the 2.4ghz band.

Tried resetting my SuperHub and re-installing the drivers and software utility for the AC53 but alas it doesn't show. My phone however can find and connect to the 5G band.

I'm a bit confused as where to go from here!

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:ASUS USB-AC53 Dual Band - Can't detect 5Ghz band

After re-installing you can't connect at all or just only connect to 2.4?

Can you run ipconfig /all and post back the results.
Click Start, in the search box type cmd, under programs right click on cmd and select "Run as Administrator".
In the command prompt window type ipconfig /all and press enter.
Next right click within the command prompt and select "Select All" press enter.
Paste the results back in this thread.

Is it odd that, according to InSSIDer, the 2.g Ghz band signal is stronger (-45) than that of the 5Ghz band (-61)? My router is a Netgear WNDR4500. Just wondering. Thanks.

Arthur

A:2.g Ghz band signal stronger than 5Ghz band

It really depends on where your wireless router is compared to your computer.

5 GHz signals are effected more by walls, distance, etc. than 2.4 GHz.

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

Greetings,

I'm having issues with my wireless 5Ghz connection, since my laptop will no longer find it.
Well, if I disable the network adapter and enable it back on, the 5G connection will show up for a few seconds and then disappear. However, I cannot connect to it, even if I try during the short time it shows up.

My network adapter is a Killer Wireless-N 1202.

Now, the router is working properly, because my phone does detect the 5Ghz band and can connect to it, with no problems.

I think the issue might have started after I updated my network adapter's drivers. which I did this Sunday at around 2:00AM. However, later on that day when I turned on my laptop, I had no issues with 5G.

I noticed the issue last Tuesday. During Monday last week my Internet provider changed the modem and router. However, I didn't use my laptop that day and only noticed the issue on Tuesday, when my laptop couldn't find any connection and asked me to choose one.

The main router I used to have was a Linksys and now it's a Huawei one (which is both a modem and a wireless router). That being said, I've never connected wirelessly to either of those, but to a Netgear r7000 which I connected to them.

Yesterday, I tried hard resetting the Netgear router, thinking it might have been experiencing some kind of conflict with the new modem/router, but my laptop still could not find 5G yet my phone could.

I used the "netsh wlan show drivers" line on CMD and it did show my net... Read more

Hi

The Wlan frequency depends on the WLan card.
I think the notebook was equipped with the Realtek RTL8723AE WLan card which supports the 802.11 B / G / N standard

5Ghz is available only using 802.11 A or N

802.11 N standard operates at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz but 5Ghz would be available ONLY if the WLan card would support additional 802.11 A standard; i.e 802.11 A / N.

But Realtek RTL8723AE doesn?t support 802.11 A and therefore the 5Ghz are not possible for this WLan module.

Recently the router has been dropping the wireless connection, and now is not connecting with the computer - the ethernet still works. It was suggested to upgrade the firmware but I can't access the configuration.

I've tried admin, and blank password which is supposed to be the default. I've also tried XXXXX as password, and another username and password in case I had altered it for security. It doesn't allow me in.

I've rebooted the router, and also reset it, all to no avail. Is there any way I can over ride this to get into the configuration?

Many thanks

My PC is unable to detect 5Ghz band where rest of the devices at my home are detecting both the bands.
I have recently bought D-Link dual band router and installed at home. Router is working absolutely fine because I could see
my other laptop and Ipad are able to detect both the bands. So that says there no problem with the router configuration. Also the router which
I have bought is recently released, so there are no new updates are released yet.
As per the installation guide, 802.11a supports 5Ghz and IEEE 802 11b/g/n supports 2.4 Ghz.
My PC details :
Model : Sony SVF14A190X (an year old laptop)
Operating System : Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 Bit
Network Adaptor drivers: BCM43142 Wireless Network Adapter
Router Details: D-Link DIR-850L VER A.1 wireless AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router.
The network adaptor which my laptop supports IEEE 802 11b/g/n..i.e.2.4 Ghz. I tried installing the Network Adapter drivers in compatibility mode, but that doesn't
help me at all to fix the issue. Also I even had an assistance from Sony Customer support and spent few hours, but unfortunately they couldn't fixed it.
When I cheked in Command prompt, it says following thing :
Radio Types Supported : 802.11n 802.11g 802.11b.
How should I upgarde network drivers to : 802.11n 802.11a 802.11g 802.11b
Please help me to fix this issue.

I think that the wifi adapter in your laptop does NOT support 5ghz. The adapter supports 802.11a which is a very old standard but it does NOT support 802.11ac which is the newest standard that supports 5ghz.

If you really wish to connect to your new router on the 5Ghz band then you could get an external USB dongle that would work.

Hi,

I have a N600 Wireless Dual Band Router model WNDR3400. My question(s) is that if I connect with a wired cable, will I be connected to the 5ghz and avoid interference with those on the 2.4ghz connection?

For example, I have a wired connection with my Playstation 3 but i believe the Playstation 3 incapable of detecting the 5ghz when I do a wireless scan. Does this mean when I connect with a wired cable with the ps3 I use the 2.4ghz connection with other users and getting interference if they're doing something like streaming?

And finally, if my Laptop is unable to detect the 5.ghz connection does that mean I need some sort of adapter? Or does it have to do something with the settings. Its enabled and is on the default channel.
[Sorry one more question, where do I go to see who is currently using the internet connection in the setup]

N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400.

I am trying to get a signal out in my garage at the opposite end of my router location. I am getting 1 bar and "poor" signal. I downloaded inSSIDer to analyse my signal and I notice that my "Wireless Network (5GHz a/n)" is not broadcasting anything. The checkbox for "Enable SSID Broadcast" is checked.

I have very limited knowledge of this stuff but it seems to me that if it is a dual band that I should be seeing 2 different signals, right?

All I see is this: Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n)

I have attached screenshot of my settings

My Billion BiPAC 7800VDOX Dual Band Wireless VoIP ADSL2+ Router has two bands:  2.4GHz and 5GHz.  and is wirelessly connected to my laptop OMEN by HP Laptop PC  17-w007tx.  It always shows as connected via 5GHz band only.  My laptop also shows 5GHz band only in the list of available networks;  2.4GH does not show up in the list of available networks.  It is not so in my other laptop which is also connected to the same router and that laptop shows both the bands in the list of available networks.  Thus, I can choose to connect to any of the two bands as per my choice. I have tested the router and it is working perfectly; there is nothing wrong with it.I wonder what can possibly be wrong in my OMEN laptop that it does not show both the bands which it should. At times, when I click to open the list of available networks, 2.4GHz may appear momentarily only and then disappears; thus I can not choose it for connection. I would appreciate any help to resolve this issue so that my OMEN laptop shows both the bands in the list of available networks so as to choose either one for connection.

To help connect the PC to the HN9000 directly and try to establish the Default Gateway IP Address using the commands below:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL. This should work for any Windows version. The IPCONFIG /ALL display will provide a wealth of useful information for debugging your network connection.

Please post the info from this command both directly attached to the cable modem and again when attached via the DI-624 router?

Connect the HN9000 to the WAN port of the DI-624. Connect your PC with an ethernet cable to any one of ports 1 to 4.

Download the Product Manual at

Page 12 of the Product Manual describes how to access the configuration but I think you already know?

Page 14 describes selecting Dynamic IP Addressing which works for most Cable Modems. This should just assign the router appropriate addressing and you should test internet connection with your PC in ports 1 to 4?

Page 15 describes Static IP addressing. You would need to check with Hughesnet as your ISP as to whether they have setup your service with Static IP addressing?

Finally on page 18 ensure you have DHCP enabled on the router and assign an IP address range like suggested 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.199.

A:Internet Running Slow - DSL Modem through WAN on Dlink-604 Router

I saved the following some time ago. It may be pertinent to your problem.

On your router there should be an option for mtu. use this formula.

To find the proper MTU Size, you'll have to do a special ping of the
destination you're trying to go to. A destination could be another
computer, or a URL.
1. Click on the Start button, then select the Run option.

2. In the "Open" field type in command (If you're using Windows
2K/NT/XP use CMD instead)

3. Once the window opens, you'll need to do a special ping. It
should be formatted:

ping [-f] [-l] [MTU value] [Enter] an e...rom this into the MTU settings on the router.

When my Carbon 5th is connected to 5 GHz Wifi it randomly resets (drops) after several hours (connection is being lost, Windows reports "Cannot connect to the network"). Sometimes it is possible to connect again manually, sometimes only reboot makes it work again. Connection to 2.4 GHz Wifi always works totally fine. I've seen several similar topics on Intel forums with the same issue, looks like it touches several Intel WiFi adapters. No solution have been found except using only old 2.4 GHz protocols or external WiFi adaptors. I tried different drivers and many parameter sets on my router - nothing solves this issue. It is very sad to have only 20mbps with 2.4 GHz while new standards offer more than 100mbps. Did you face this issue? Any ideas to solve it out?

My question is I have a computer with 2.4ghz as well as 5ghz, my router is a dual band 2.4 and 5ghz wireless n and no matter what I do my computer will not recognize the 5ghz network.

Background info: I have read through many forums and tried many different solutions none of which seem to work. My computer is 2 weeks old (hp). I have gone into device manager and clicked on the network card, properties, and advanced tab to discover my computer does support both 5ghz and 2.4ghz, as well both are enabled. My router is the wrt601n linksys dual band N wireless router. I have tried every setting possible with that router including : mixed, n only, a only, 20 or 40 all different widths and no matter what combination my computer will only pick up the 2.4ghz. Both drivers/software for my computer and router are up to date with the lastest. I have also tried close to and far away, distance and range are not issues either. It's becoming a major issue not having both bands working because we having gaming equiptment that when somebody is playing it kicks the other person off of the internet entirely! I am at a loss here on what to do please help!!!

A:Computer won't recognize 5ghz router (computer has 5ghz), windows 7

Go into your cards'
'Computer management' > 'Device Manager' > right click on your wireless card > 'properties' menu > 'advanced'

Check that 2.4/5ghz is set up for your correct country band! (UK = 1-13)

To turn on Dual band wireless 'n'
My linksys 2.4/5 pci card has a menu item called "Multimedia Gaming environment" > 'enable'

This enables dual band - top speed @ 300!

I am using Dlink 2750u wifi modem, until morning it was working fine but after some ttime I found that although all the lights (especially internet led) are green i.e connected but none of my android phones are connecting to internet. I tries all the apps and browsers but no peace. I started my laptop to check if it is connecting but same problem was existing! Internet icon on taskbar showed yellow exclamation triangle on the connected network! I decided to use Ethernet cable but nothing changed. I even logged in to router webpage and it states that connected to internet, sending and receiving packets and DHCP enabled, etc. I even tried ipconfig /all ( you can see it below), ping,tracert...,etc and even contacted ISP, to which they asked me to hard reset modem and reconfigure which I had already done!

Please help me out with this problem as modem is showing connected to internet and ISP is claiming that net is not down but I am not able to connect! I tried to ping to ip address, gateway,DNS server which responded well; but request timed out,100%packet loss is being shown when I ping any other ip or domain even 8.8.8.8!
So I installed xirrus network inspector software later in the evening to detect problem and it said that external ip is N/A.

I would bring this observation to notice that my DNS server, ip address are starting with fe8... like this :
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::1%15192.168.1 , in ipconfig /all log.

You can see ping.txt file or same thing below:

Guys I just want you to look at my setup in my net cafe as of now if there will be some problems that may occur... ANd I also have a question regarding this setup...

ISP's are from same provider using a Motorola Canopy.
Routers are connected for gamers to play LAN games.
Router 1 has an IP of 192.168.0.1
Router 2 has an IP of 192.168.0.2
Default Gateway of Client PC's and Server 1 connected in Router 1 were configured manually to 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway of Client PC's and Server 2 connected in Router 2 were configured manually to 192.168.0.2

My question is...
Will both of my Internet Connections work together???
or One Connection will automatically shut down and all of the PC's will hook their internet connections to the other one???

Any answers or suggestions to make my setup better will be appreciated...

Thank you very much...

I think you are likely to have issues here, why not simply use a dual-WAN router, much cleaner and it will provide automatic load balancing and fail-over functionality.

Ladies & gents,

I work for a smallish company that is about to expand. We're going from 4 computers connected to a Belkin 4-port router and adding 20 computers to a switch, which is connected to a D-Link DI-604 which is connected to the Belkin.

This reason for this convoluted setup is that the 20 new PCs need to be restricted in what they can access on the internet (2 sites and connect to a server). We don't want to restrict the 4 original PCs.

We picked up the D-Link due to its ability to control domains pretty easily. The problem is, I need an open connection to a specific IP address on ports 4040 and 701 for a program that the users will be accessing.

When I keep domain blocking off, the program connects to the remote server no problem. As soon as domain blocking is on, no dice. So now you're thinking: 'Just open the ports, idiot.' Tried it, no dice. I've opened the ports on both the D-Link and the Belkin (which isn't really necessary since the Belkin's firewall is off).

If you have been able to follow this long and arduous post and have any ideas as to where I'm screwing up, your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Since you can restrict by IP with the D-Link, why not lose the Belkin and just use the D-Link as the only router?

Hello, let me explain my situation.
We live in an apartment complex and there are 3 desktops that connect to the router. On an evening we were experiencing extreme lag which we determined was due to traffic on the channels.
We bought a router that can use 5ghz and also 3 new compatible adaptors. Installed it, worked just fine on 5ghz.... for a day. Then the signal took a dump and ping was between 700 and thousands on all pcs.
Rebooted the router after reading forums and seeing this as a common issue until reboot, and it was fine again. Signal took a dive again a day later, rebooted again. This time only 2 of the pcs were getting the speed, and the other one was barely getting any (no more than 1gb/s). Rebooted, that PC was fine, the other 2 were under 1gb/s. Rebooted, and they all switched order again. Finally got all 3 working, again just for a day until the signal took a dump, now I cant get more than 1 PC (the same one this time every reboot) at max speed.
Switched them onto the 2.4ghz, works fine. Back to 5ghz, nope nothing, clinging to connection for its life on 2 of the 3 PCs.

All 3 are using identicle adapters, 15 feet from router no walls, and are set up identicle. Channel is on auto as is the frequency (have tried 20mhz, 40mhz, and a variety of channels).

Does anyone have any idea? Thank you

Hello,

Short story even shorter, there was a semi-power outage this morning (lights were very dim but power wasn't totally off), and when the power came back on my router stopped working. Here's what I know:

-The WLAN LED is no longer lit so there's no wireless. That orange CiscoSystems button is no longer glowing orange either if that means much.

-For some odd reason a wired connection through any of the ethernet ports on the router no longer works either, though the LED's still light up when connected, along with the internet LED.

-The modem works fine, I'm connected to the internet directly from the modem right now.

-I've tried to reset the router, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

-I've tried to access the router config settings, and the page doesn't load.

-I've tried to look up the routers ip address through the command prompt but when I enter the command "ipconfig" when I'm wired through the router I always get the response something along the lines of "media disconnected". When I try the command when connected directly to the modem the default gateway ip address comes up as '68.43.36.1'. This doesn't work either.
I've been searching the web for solutions for hours and I can't find one. This is actually the first time I've ever had to post a thread asking for help and I've experienced a slew of computer problems over the years, lol.

I was attempting to port foreward for my PS3, but was having no luck. Long story short, I tried changing the router's IP to see if it would work. Here's where the problem began. I changed it from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.1.1, which I believe may have made it conflict with my modem. Now I'm stuck not being able to access the internet through the router at all or access the router's configuration to change it back. When I try to access it, I just get a "Page not Found". The computer connected directly to the router is running Windows XP. The Router is a Linksys WRT54GS v. 4.

I've tried disconnecting the internet from the Router to see if it would stop the conflicting problem (if that is indeed the problem), but it didn't work. I've tried setting up many different static IP adresses for the computer connected to the router directly, but it didn't work. I've tried nearly everything, but I just can't get it working.

I'm posting this through a computer connected through a switch to my modem.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help!

I have a PC connected to a Dlink 614+ wireless router on one end of the house. A PC in the middle of the house with a syntax USB adaptor. A PC at the other end with a Dlink 520+ adaptor. I also have dlink 800AP+ (repeater access point) that I'd like to add to the mix.

I was trying to replace the syntax adaptor with the 800AP set as a access point, but I can't seem to connect between the access point and the wireless router. Any pointers, or do I just need to forget about it and set the 800AP+ as a repeater only.

Okay, I've read thru the other posts but I still don't have an answer. (I probably just missed it cause my brain hurts)

Here it is: 1 pc running XP, 1pc running 98', connected with DI-604 router. Both individually have access to the internet and email.

Problem: Neither one of the pc's can "see" each other.

Desired result: I would like to be able to share all files and printers between both computers, full access from one to the other.

I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking, please help.

Is anyone having problems with intermittent wireless connectivity with the dir-655 router, or is it just me?Sometimes it works & sometimes it don't! It's been perfect for 6 mo's but lately have experienced problems with it. I've queried the guys in Bombay,Calcutta, & New Delhi & have tried several of their suggestions to no avail.I'm beginning to wonder if they haven't led me down the proverbial path & gotten things really screwed up! I'm running WinXp, SP2
Should I consider pushing the "reset" & start all over again? What's the consensus of opinion? Thanks

Just yesterday I bought a dlink dir-615 router for my other computer, a windows xp. I have three different ones, two windows sevens, and the aforementioned xp.

The only one with a working internet connection is my laptop and I was told that I would be able to split that connection to the other computers with a router. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as I have been trying since yesterday to get a decent connection without having the warning sign: Network has limited access etc, etc.

I can't even get a secure connection with my laptop because I had no router, and I was also told that this one would let me set up a secure connection.

Along with the router I have a dlink wireless adapter that was supposed to pick up connections on my inactive computers, but the signals are so damn crappy its no use.

A direct answer to a direct question would be of tremendous help though: Do I need a landline service from time warner to have this thing work? Because if I do, I think I'm going to smash it against the wall pretty soon.

No smart language please, I'm new in this subject. Thanks.
