Enterprise Mode Site List Manager Tool for Windows 10 Schema v2 download? Or, Why doesn't v1 schema site list redirect sites from Edge to IE11?

Q: Enterprise Mode Site List Manager Tool for Windows 10 Schema v2 download? Or, Why doesn't v1 schema site list redirect sites from Edge to IE11?

(NOTE: Links open in a new tab.)
In the TechNet article
here I see reference to a schema v.2 for the EMIE tool. It will apparently spit out the xml using the new version 2 of the schema. But the download link only goes to downloads for Win7/8 (schema v.1), and I cannot find any reference to where I can obtain
the Windows 10 version.
For example,
this article specifically references a Windows 10 version, where
this one references Windows 7 and 8. Finding the Windows 10 version has proven impossible so far.
We have several sites which need to be opened in IE instead of Edge, and using our old Enterprise Mode site list is not working on our Windows 10 clients.
Current site list example:
<rules version="4">
<domain exclude="false">www.contoso.com</domain>

Reading about the
v.2 schema leads me to think that the output from the tool is incorrect. The documentation suggests that the output for Windows 10 should be:

<site-list version="205">
<site url="www.contoso.com">

Or am I missing something here?

Preferred Solution: Enterprise Mode Site List Manager Tool for Windows 10 Schema v2 download? Or, Why doesn't v1 schema site list redirect sites from Edge to IE11?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I visited the download site for Enterprise Mode Site List Manager v.1 schema (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42501&751be11f-ede8-5a0c-058c-2ee190a24fa6=True)
and noted that the details show that this is version 5.1. I downloaded and intstalled it, but the version shown in Programs and Features shows it is version 4.2 and in the application itself, Help -> About also shows version 4.2.

I am not sure if the version information on the download page is incorrect, or if the download page is serving an incorrect version of the utility.  I have no idea if the tool is really supposed to be on version 5.1 or not or if version 4.2 is the latest
version or not.

Anyone know?

We have begun to pilot Windows 10 Enterprise in our environment.  As part of this, I've created copies of the GPOs that point IE11 to the Enterprise Mode Site List.  The new copies use a WMI filter so that it applies only to Windows 10 clients.
Then, I created a schema v.2 version of our Enterprise Mode site list so that I could tell clients not only to run certain sites in IE8 Enterprise Mode, but to open them in IE11.
If I browse to the sites in Internet Explorer 11, Enterprise Mode works as expected; however, if I browse to the sites in Edge, it doesn't work.  Instead, I just get various compatibility problems from the page not rendering correctly, to getting a
"your browser is incompatible" message, to not having the plugins or ActiveX controls needed available.
I thought the whole idea of schema v.2 was to be able to have sites load in either Edge, IE11, or to run in Enterprise Mode with no preference?  How can I get sites to forcibly open in IE11 when needed?
By the way, I've already checked group policy results and verified my Windows 10 test client is picking up the new v.2 Enterprise Mode file and not the old v.1 one.

I've configured the Enterprise Mode site list as directed in the following article
and set up the gpo to point to my site.  I've confirmed in my site's logs that the xml file is accessible.
However, it isn't working; none of the sites are launching in enterprise mode.  I notice that the CurrentVersion key in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode has remained at 1 and is not updating.  I'm assuming that is the
problem, but I can't figure out why it won't update.
Any advice?

I am testing a new Enterprise Mode configuration for a new Windows 10 v1607 configuration. I am familiar with using  Enterprise Mode in IE11 on Win8.1 and am now testing using it for the interaction to open specific sites in IE11 vs Edge on Win10. I
have the newest version of the Site list manager and am creating the v2 schema.
I am noticing that the site list only updates when IE11 is open, the documented process is "IE waits 65 seconds and then checks the local cache for a newer version of the file from the server." I notice that if I only open Edge and use Edge, the
site list doesn't update, it seem sto only update when IE11 is opened. This process works correctly, however what I am wondering about is the scenerio where our end users are only using Edge, and don't open IE11 very often or at all. Does this mean there site
list is never going to update?
We are trying to move people to use Edge, so as more people start using Edge more and IE11 less, want to understand if those people are giong to stop getting site list updates, so if we configure something to open in IE11, it won't actually work unless they
manually open IE11 to get trigger the site list update.

In testing Enterprise Mode using IE11 I've been able to do the following...

Create a sites.xml file using the Site List Manager tool and store it on a web site accessible by all clientsEnabled the "Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list" group policy option and entered the appropriate URL to access the sites.xml file.Verified that the client applied the policy and sites listed in the sites.xml file were using Enterprise ModeAlso verified that the client registry entry "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode" CurrentVersion value was set to 3.Opened the sites.xml file and removed an entry, incremented the <rules version="4"> and saved it.
Only 1 problem:  The client will not stop running the site I removed from the sites.xml file in Enterprise Mode.
I've waited forever and it will not pick up the new file and I did increment the version number in the xml file.

So I proceeded to delete all browser history but doing the following didn't get rid of the sites.xml file...
Browser History --> Delete --> (tick all the boxes) then Delete.  Restarted the browser after it was done.  This didn't help so I went to...
Browser History --> Settings --> View Files
Found that the sites.xml file was still in the INetCache  in the following path; C:\Users\jjasta\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache)

A:Enterprise Mode IE11 Site List Not Updating on Client...

Here is some information that should be helpful:
Approximately 65 seconds after Internet Explorer 11 starts, it compares your site list version to the stored version number. If your file has a higher number, the newer version is loaded. And please note: After this check, Internet Explorer 11
won?t look for an updated list again until you restart the browser.
To make sure your site list is up-to-date; wait 65 seconds after opening Internet Explorer and then check that the
CurrentVersion value in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode\ registry key matches the version number in your file.
If CurrentVersion is not set or is wrong, it means that the XML parsing failed. This can mean that the XML file isn?t there, that there are access problems, or that the XML file format is wrong. Don?t manually change the
CurrentVersion registry setting. You must make your changes to your site list and then update the list using the import function in the
Enterprise Mode Site List Manager tool.

We are using the afore mentioned software and have an odd issue.
A lot of times when we add a site to the list and the export  to the XML the rules Ver will not update or it reverts to an older # and we have to select ?file,
save to XML? several times to get the Ver to update correctly. Example below.
Is there a fix for this?  OIr is it just a ?feature?
We would expect that when we add the site and save it and then export it to the XML file that it will increment every time we add a new site?

I am looking for a good method for maintaining multiple site lists when using the EM site list manager. Right now I maintain four domains each with a custom site list and using the EM
console is clunky for this. It is designed more for a single domain and site list. There is the import/export feature but that isn?t easy to switch between lists and I am concerned about making a mistake. It would be ideal if the console could handle multiple
lists or profiles by viewing them in tabs or something. Has anyone found a good way to manage different site lists?

I thought it wouldn't matter, and that I would just use it to generate an XML file.  Looking at the XML file, I'm not so sure any more.

We are using Group Policy to issue an XML file with a list of sites for IE 11 to load in Enterprise mode.  We added our payroll company site because they were not compatible with IE 11, now they are ONLY compatible with IE 11.  I removed their
URL from the XML list over a week ago, but all company computers are still loading it in Enterprise mode.  I can have everyone turn it off manually, but the problem is they use so many subdomains that everyone would have to do it numerous times.  Why
is that happening?  I need to force this site and its subdomains to NOT load in Enterprise Mode.  It seems that when the URL was removed from the XML list it no longer forced it, but it also did not remove that setting.

A:Removing a site from Enterprise Model XML list for IE 11 does not disable enterprise mode for that site

No event error doesn't indicate the policy is applied fine. If the new configuration didn't work, the most probably reason was the group policy was not applied.
You could rest your Internet Explorer 11 and then restart the compute to check the result.
If it still doesn't work, run "gpresult /h gpreport.html" command to saves the report in HTML format with the file name "gpreport.html" at C:\Windows\System32\ directory.
Open this file to check if this group policy was applied successfully. Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help, and unmark the answers if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]

I'm currently in the process of testing/deploying IE11 in our environment and I've begun testing on the IE11 Enterprise Site List manager.
I've read that there are a few different ways to configure the XML file to apply via GPO per the article below.  HTTP, Local Network, Local File. (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Dn640699.aspx)
In my isolated testing I've chosen to use the local file method which is very easy to setup and use on a testing machine.
It looks like we have the flexibility to choose how we apply the XML file, and I was curious what the best options are and why?  Also are there examples of each setup being used and the benefits/downsides to each?
Here's the options that I can see using:
1. HTTP - setup an IIS website to host the XML file.
2. Local Network (UNC) - setup a UNC path on our DFS where we store the current XML file and users would have read only access to that location.
3. Local File - We could just deploy the XML file via SCCM package/application when updates to the list are required.
Could anyone please point me towards some articles, etc, explaining the pro's and cons of these methods and why I might want to choose one over the other?  I'm leaning towards just using a DFS share and option #2 because it doesn't require us to maintain
an IIS site for it but I am curious to hear if there might be any downsides to this method, or benefits to going with another method.

We have a corporate Enterprise with IE11 on Windows 7. We are using Enterprise Mode instead of "open intranet sites in compatibility view" which is now unchecked.

We want sites to open in IE 8 Document Mode instead of the Edge Default which occurs when we uncheck the intranet site compatibility view.
We have the XML and Enterprise Mode Enabled and it is processing BUT the sites are changing from Edge to Document Mode 5 instead of 8?

I have tried ALL the document modes and even IE 8 Emulation and it doesn't matter which one we set, the sites are going to Document Mode 5, with the exception of Livemeeting.com which is opening in IE 8 Document Mode as it should.

Now we can set it manually in IE using the Emulation but it does not last the session.

This should be the implementation guide to IE11 enterprise mode list.

My main question: in IE11, using F12 you see only document mode (Edge, IE10, 9 ...) but in Enterprise mode list, you can see
other options (screenshot). That's confusing. Why these enterprise modes AND document mode? What is the difference and why does the client only have document mode? Also what means each option and what logic is there to implement, f.e. first enterprise mode
then document mode, then in document mode first IE8 or IE10 ...?

Another question:
I do not have a local xml, when we look for xml, it points to \\domain\netlogon\ienterprisemode.xml
When I check Get-ItemProperty -Path "HKU:$using:SIDOfUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode").currentversion I do see a version. Where is this version then? Does that make sense?

Please advise.

I have a small question / issue when using Enterprise Mode.
We have enabled it using GPO by specifying both a site list and the Enable settings for manual override. This works fine but I don't know how to reset the manual override if somebody flicks the EM mode for a specific site.

I just want to tell IE to forget all manual overrides and apply the sitelist as delivered.
I tried to look in the registry, in the %AppData% fodler, even cleared the IE cache but IE still remembers the user overrides.
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thanks, Nic.

A:Enterprise Mode site list and manual override

Hi Nic,
As the official documents said, this registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode] ?Enable? = ?? | {URL:port} can also be used to collect manual overrides. By configuring the ?Enable? key with a
valid URL and port, Internet Explorer will initiate a simple POST to the supplied address whenever a user enables or disables Enterprise Mode. This effectively helps customers crowd-source lists of compatible Web apps from their own users, which may decrease
triage and testing costs.
Approximately 65 seconds after Internet Explorer 11 starts, it looks for a properly formatted site list. If a new site list is found, with a different version number than the active list, Internet Explorer 11 loads and uses the newer version.

This is designed by default, and we cannot reset the by preventing the changes.

We may try to logon script to re-deploy the original site list to reset the site list settings.

Have there been any changes to IE that allow us to force an Enterprise Mode site list update without having to actually launch IE, wait up to 65 second, and then close/relaunch IE? We're running IE11 with Enterprise Mode on our Citrix VDIs (Win10 1703),
and this one issue is a major concern. I know that I can launch IE in the background as part of a logon script to accomplish this, but that's detrimental to the logon performance, so I'd like to avoid going down that road.
At this point, I would even settle for an accurate list of all
files and registry keys used by IEEM (outside of the two standard keys enabling it with the site list path and the site list version). I've been trying to exclude folders and registry keys in Citrix Profile Manager, but have had no luck. The initial launch
of IE, which goes to our Citrix Web site, never starts up in Enterprise Mode. We have to wait and then close/relaunch.

We maintain a large Enterprise Mode Site List in XML and have hundreds of web developers and site stakeholders who need to be able to review the file to see what it contains. But it's in XML format and it's not clear for the average user how to interpret
it or understand how the XML code translates into different modes of emulation.
Has anyone worked out a parsing for the XML file to put it into a human-readable format so that it is clear which sites or pages are in Enterprise Mode, and which mode of emulation they are in?

lately a lot of our Windows 7 machines are having sporadic problems with the Enterprise Mode.
When the problem occurs, all websites listed in the Enterprise Mode Site List are not working anymore, the loading of the page just stops on a white page with no error message:
- pages not in the site list work fine (websites accessed trough proxy as well as intranet sites)
- the problem is limited to the current user account, reboot/logoff/run IE as another account resolves the problem
- resetting IE settings and following gpupdate solves the problem
- clearing browser history/temp etc. has no effect
IE version is 11.0.9600.18204 - 11.0.28.
Is anyone experiencing the same issues or has any suggestions how to figure out whats the cause?

Just curious if this is unique to me or if others see this, and/or if it is a known bug.

I oftentimes will use the top sites list to click on a webpage, I click on a new tab and that list is populated with the 8 most used sites I go to. Oftentimes, I will click on a new tab and suddenly the list is totally blank. I can close Edge out, reopen it, and it is populated once again.

Does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to it, seems to be totally random when it happens. And when it does, only way to get them back is to close Edge out and reopen it.

I have a Media server that needs to open but this fails unless I turn OFF enable protected mode
All I need is for this site (local host at to be an exception.

Anybody know if this is possible to do. (IE11 in Windows 8.1)

Is there some alternate place, such as the registry, where I can remove this site from Enterprise Mode.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the ... Hi, I'd appreciate some help with this problem. As you can see it'a fairly old machine which has been stable and trouble-free for years. I run AVG, AdAware, and Spybot weekly usually with nothing more sinister than cookies appearing in the results. The only odd result I can recall was W32.Small.ddx in the most recent scans ( found by Spybot, I think ).The current problem started a couple of days back when I was surprised to be taken to a different site when I clicked on a link in a list of results from a Google search ( as it happened, looking for reasons the computer was running slower than usual ).Thanks for any ideas to resolve this,John Williams.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 2:22:37 pm, on 27/10/06Platform: Windows 98 SE (Win9x 4.10.2222A)MSIE: Internet Explorer v5.51 SP2 (5.51.4807.2300)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLLC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSGSRV32.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mmtask.tskC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSTASK.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SSDPSRV.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB918547\KB918547.EXEC:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSTRAY.EXEC:\WINDOWS\TPPALDR.EXEC:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG FREE\AVGCC.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG FREE\AVGEMC.EXEC:\PROGRA... I would like to find out if a site can automatically be added to the list in Compatibility View Settings.
A having issues with a certain site and see it's listed under Compatibility View Settings, once they remove it, the site shows up as fine.
As far as i know, only way to add something there is to manually added or via registry. Barring this, is there any other way this site could have come up in there?
