Inspiron 5559 - can I turn off the click sound for the touchpad buttons?

Q: Inspiron 5559 - can I turn off the click sound for the touchpad buttons?

I'm a big-time right-click and open in new tab user, but having the buttons "hard-click" sound every time I click on something is going to drive my housemates nuts.
Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running windows 10.  The touchpad on my new Dell laptop has ceased to function.  There is no touchpad tab in the Mouse Advanced Settings Options.  I've downloaded the touchpad driver.  There is no Fn key associated with the touchpad.  Anyone know how I can get this working?  It worked when I first purchased the laptop one month ago.

My Laptop, an Inspiron 5559 64 bit, running Windows 10, Version 1703, Build 15063.447.
The only recent change, OS was upgraded to Windows 10 Creator several weeks ago. Overall there are no issues, as a matter of fact, I am using the Laptop composing my question.
However, after a period of inactivity, the Touchpad stops responding, frozen, in my estimating it goes to sleep and does not wake up. My trouble shooting efforts include, downloading and updating driver, to no avail. The only way to get back touchpad is to reboot.
Please note, touch screen services remain operational and responsive.
Any guidance troubleshooting the issue will be greatly appreciated.

A:Inspiron 5559 touchpad stops working after sleeping

Hi ecr1014,
Any damages noticed?
Does external mouse works fine?
Run the diagnostics by pressing F12 during startup and let me know if touchpad responds in that screen?
Update the Touchpad driver and also update the BIOS.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Hi all,
Just got an Inspiron 15-5559 Signature edition from the Microsoft store and I can't figure out how to turn off the keyboard backlight. I want to turn it off to save battery when it's not connected to AC.
I've tried pressing Fn+F10 as well as just F10 when FN is locked. I've installed Quickset and the backlight slider doesn't change the backlight levels at all. I've also went into BIOS and the backlight stays on even if I choose "Disabled".
Any ideas on how to turn it off? Thanks

Compared to the other Dell Inspiron 5559s I have seen, and in fact compared to all laptops I have seen, this start-up time is not normal.  I don't mean how long it takes to boot to Windows.  I mean how long it takes to get it to display the Dell logo upon start-up.
There is no power light (since for some reason Dell decided it doesn't need one??), so I can never tell if I successfully turned it on or not until a good 6 seconds later when the keyboard's backlight lights up.  Then it takes another 3 seconds for the screen to turn on.  This definitely has something to do with the CMOS, or the BIOS, or something.  Everything is up-to-date, including drivers.  Please don't treat me like someone who doesn't know how to use a computer.
This has been an issue since I received the laptop in 2016.  Dell told me it's normal.  Dell was wrong.  Nothing new there.  I recently used another Dell Inspiron 15-5559 and was surprised by how responsive it was at powering on.  A function mastered on computers since computers were first made, and yet it performs badly on this 2016 model.
Any suggestions besides paying Dell a fortune?  It is not in warranty.

I have had the Inspiron 5559 laptop, Windows 10, for two weeks and suddenly have no audio sound

A:Inspiron 5559 laptop no sound

Hello. No sound from just the speakers, or no sound from the speakers or the headphone jack? If no sound from either one, try the following things.
> Try using System Restore (type system restore into the Windows search box) and revert to a date before the audio stopped.
> If that does not help. perform a basic re-installation of the Realtek audio driver.
1.    Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device and re-install the driver. The driver is re-built from files that are in a folder on the hard drive. The reason this process fixes some audio issues is that it resets the driver settings to their default configuration.
> If that does not help, completely remove the Realtek audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" section.3. Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio". 4. Click "uninstall."5. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then... Read more

I recently bought a Dell inspiron 5559 (June 1, 2017). I then noticed that whenever I play audio like music or videos and plug the adapter out, I would hear a crackling sound, sounds as if its coming from the speakers. When I pause the sound and unplug then play audio the sound is made so I'm guessing the problem seems to exist whether I play audio or not. No matter where I plug the adapter out, it makes that sound. I'm worried that it might destroy the laptop, or that this is a defect that might start a fire if its a lack in how the adapter was made. It is a 45 w adapter according to what is labelled on it. sometimes i get a message saying "adapter is not recognized. system performance will be impacted etc" and I guess it happens if I don't plug the cord in properly? or is it not suppose to say that at all? Nonetheless, my main worry is the sound the laptop makes when I unplug the adapter. It goes on for maybe 3 or 4 seconds and sounds like a radio transceiver. Please comment if you know what this means, Thank you.

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5559 i7 6th gen Laptop on 1st November, I faced the distorting and crackling issue in the beginning but i checked the solutions here and switched the realtek driver to the windows default driver and it was working well until today. I have tested my dell speakers on various test videos available online and the general speaker configure option of windows, laptops right speaker is working good but left produces a crackling noise at high pitch sound. Please tell me what should i do? I have done multiple reinstalls of the driver but nothing worked. I have decided that its a hardware fault, just trying my luck here.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 i7 6th gen, left speaker sound crackling on high levels

Hi virengupta13,Thanks for posting. If the noise is only coming through one of the speakers and it is not there when you listen through headphones, then the speaker probably needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty you can contact Tech Support, but before you do remove all media players except Windows Media Player, or else you will be denied warranty service.

Regardless of my touchpad settings, when I press (not tap) the main area of the touchpad, it acts like a left mouse click. I want to turn off the touchpad click in the large area of the touchpad but still have the two buttons in the lower area of the touchpad active.
This is not the "tap to click" feature - I have already turned that off.
How do I turn off the click in the main touchpad area?

Hi there
I'm wondering how to approach this problem. When I use the default setting of "tap in lower-right corner to right click", the area it uses for the bottom right actually uses the majority of the touchpad. I end up with the left most 1cm being left click and the other 10cm being right, which isn't usable.
I have tried switching to 2-finger tap for right click but a number of programs don't seem to register it correctly (I think that's a win 10 issue), and also at random restarts the touchpad will act as though this is disable and its settings are all default, despite not being in the actual settings menu (again a win 10 issue?)
Is there a specific driver I can use to improve the touchpad behaviour or gain more control? Is there anything I can do to change the size of the right click width so it only takes up half?

Hey! I've got a Dell Inspiron 3000 series which just recovered from some boot problems--I had to reinstall a Windows 10 image from the Microsoft website; was having problems downloading the Dell factory image.
One thing is still bugging me; I'm convinced that before the troubles, I could tap with two fingers on the mouse touchpad to send a right click. I've grown very used to this and can't figure out how to get it back. I downloaded and installed the touchpad drivers listed for my service tag, and the touchpad is working just fine for basic operations, but I don't have any control panel options to customize the touchpad beyond what a generic mouse could do. Is there any way to get this option back? Thank you very much.

Dear all:

New to the forum.  Thanks in advance to anyone able to help.  I have two issues that seem to be related.  Today at some point I could not longer use my right or left click buttons on my laptop.  The touchpad still works in the sense that I can move my cursor and if I tap once on the touchpad (not the left/right buttons) then it will select a link.  There is no right-clicking capabilities on the touchpad itself.
I "attempted" to reinstall the driver.  Not sure if I was successful doing that, but seeing as how half of the touchpad functionality works, I'm not positive it's a driver issue.
After restarting my laptop I tried again to click on the left/right buttons and became frustrated and wanted to see if they were stuck, so I pressed down hard.  My laptop proceeded to shut off immediately.  Frustrated, I disassembled my laptop and checked out the touchpad sensor to see if I could spot something wrong.  Everything appeared to be in tact.  I reassembled and the laptop powered on, yeahh!!
I once again tried to press the buttons and nothing happening.  Again I pressed harder than normal and the laptop shut down.  I was going to disassemble it again however I got halfway before trying to power it on and the laptop powered on again.
My first issue is:  Why is my laptop suddenly shutting off when pressing hard on those buttons?
My second issue is:  How can I fix those button... Read more

I'm really hoping someone can help me resolve this very irritating issue. When I'm on a website using the google browser and single tap on my touchpad to go to a link from an image link, my computer automatically downloads the link instead of taking me to said link. Just unboxed my new x360.  Any time I lift my finger off the touchpad I hear a click sound.  This isn't necessarily a "rattle" nor does it feel like anything is loose.  It sounds like an electronically generated sound on a mouse event. Oddly this doesn't come through my headphones when they are plugged into the audio jack.  Another reason I think it is electronically generated is the fact that the sound doesn't change with varying pressure on the touchpad.  Even the most gentle touch, creates the "click"  when lifting my finger. Please help me get rid of this sound.  My previous generation x360 did not make this sound.

My laptop, Inspiron 17R, started making a clicking sound when I pressed power button. A:Inspiron 17R makes clicking sound and wont turn on

Sounds like it's most likely a bad mainboard -- try powering up without a battery.  If it will but won't with the battery installed, the battery is bad -- if it won't boot on AC only, chances are the mainboard is bad.

There is an obvious bulge in the keyboard.  This seems to be due to backlight wires against the keyboard.  There is height difderence around keys 9, O and L.  The keyboard is also flimsy around 8, I, K. Because of the void between keyboard and base.
Has anyone found a fix? I called Dell who said this is not a technical malfunction and all keys on the keyboard is working. As such tech support didnt help me.  I called the vendor who told me to call Dell's tech support.

Kindly check the following
1. Check that you have all the latest Windows updates then back up your whole PC, or at least any data that you have not already backed up. Create a Restore Point so you can go back to it.
2. Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall any software you no longer use. Ideally, uninstall all copies of Java and then install the latest version.
3. Download and run CCleaner (free) to delete temporary files and clean up your PC, including the Windows Registry.
4. Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, as mentioned above. (You can also run it in Safe Mode.)
5. Restart your PC and check your hard drive for errors. The quickest way is to click Start and type chkdsk /r in the Run box.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 keep rebooting

What is the current OS installed on the system? Are you trying to reinstall the OS on the machine? What is the exact issue with the system if you are trying to reinstall the OS?
If the system is on Win 10 OS and does not boot into windows, provided the OS was working fine earlier, then check this article - http://dell.to/2dS9MFs
If the issue is not resolved - restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Could be Toshiba, WD (HGST) or Seagate (Samsung).  Some have easily decoded manufacture dates, while others do not.
Large capacity (1T and up) drives didn't exist in 9.5 mm or slimmer format in 2006, so it's not that old.

Contact Dell Support in your country, verify that the system is still in warranty period, on your invoice / order it will be listed or online on the Dell Support site.
It is advisable to check if you are entitled to statutory rights warranty, or example in the EU you have at least 2yrs statutory rights warranty from the invoice date.

If it shows unknown, contact Dell for a warranty repair - they'll replace the DC jack or mainboard, whichever is bad.

Unplug or remove the battery - try again.  If the flashing ceases, it's a bad battery. If it doesn't, it's a bad mainboard.

I recently purchased an Inspiron 15 5559 | i5 6th Gen | AMD Radeon 4GB. It came with a 4GB RAM that I had upgraded to 8 GB (there was one 4GB RAM in Bank 0, DIMM A; I added another similar RAM in Bank 2, DIMM B). System Information would show 8 GB Installed Memory and 4 GB Usable Memory. But the second RAM has never worked. After trying all basic troubleshooting tips (e.g. msconfig, etc.). Nothing has worked.
Today I tried juggling both the RAMs and the DIMM slots. Both the RAMs worked in Bank 0, DIMM A but none of them worked in Bank 2, DIMM B, which leads me to believe that my Motherboard is damaged. However, if it was damaged why/how does system information detect 8GB Installed Memory.
Thanks for any help.
