Win7 won't save edited pix

Q: Win7 won't save edited pix

I've been editing pictures for some while now but suddenly Win7 doesn't save my edited version. I've tried Save, Save as, but when I look at the file the picture has reverted to the original. Am I now unwittingly doing something different or is there something to check or uncheck that I don't know about?
I'd appreciate some help please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi
I have Outlook 365 on my desktop for emails , calendars and contacts
I use Icloud for Windows to sync my Calendar and Contacts from iphone to desktop or from desktop to iphone.
Was seamless until a few days ago when trying to edit a contact on Outlook it would not allow me to save it
Error message was "Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of the item in the default
folder for the item?
I can edit the contact on iphone and it updates though to Outlook on desktop.
Calendar appointments (new and amended/edited) are seamlessly working both ways.
A new contact inputted onto Outlook icloud contact will save but if you then try to add a new number or note then get the above error message.
Please advise

Hi,
I hope this is the correct place to ask. I have spent the day editing a document which i stupidly just opened from an email attachment in my hotmail account and proceeded to edit. I diligently saved it throughout the day but did not use the save as function.

I have tried to open a similar document and choose save as to see where the document would have saved but this does not seem to work in Windows 7. I have tried looking in my 'temp' folder but this is empty.

Does anyone know how else I could retrieve this document? It is the only version i have...i really ought to have looked after it better!

Thank you in advance,

Sandra

No problem this is an easy one.

Go to search type in back up and restore Pick a date prior to your problem. And then like magic, everything is back the way it was when life was good. This will affect all your personal documents, but not system settings.

but first try this one. Go to search pick a phrase that is in your document and it should appear.

I have Windows 7.
i copy entire flash drive to a folder (Call it "RemovableDrive" folder under My Document) from flash drive (USB).

In "RemovableDrive", folder, I right click and select Properties, then I uncheck READ ONLY, and select Apply to set all files and folder/subfolders to uncheck READ ONLY.

In the "RemovableDrive" folder, I opened a file, and edit it. Then I try to save it.
it would not let me. I also set the property of the file to READ ONLY, but still has the same problem.

What is the problem?
I have administrator privileges.

A:Copied flash to harddrive, and Cannot save edited file in folder.

What you did was to clear the Read Only attributes for this folder, sub folders and files. In FAT32 this is enough.

But in NTFS file system, you have to check the file permissions along with the ownership also for the folder.

To check the file permissions, right click on your flash folder in My Documents, select Properties - Security Tab.

Here under your username check the file permissions. Do you have full control?

Click on Advanced - Owner tab and press Edit button. Now select your username and put a check mark on Replace owner on subcontainers and objects and press OK button twice to return to the folder Properties dialog box.

Now click Advanced button, and make sure your username has full control permissions. If not click on Change Permissions and remove the tick mark on include inheritable permissions from this object's parent. Click Add button on the opened dialog box. Select your username and press Edit button. In the opened dialog box, put a check mark on Allow at full control, select Apply to this folder, sub folder and files. Keep another check mark on Apply permissons.... in the bottom of the screen and finally press OK button. Now close all the dialog boxes.

This should now allow you to edit any files in the folder.

hi all,

have a new HD on which I will install win7 home prem full version. The previous HD with vista and programs and data will become a 2nd HD on which I want to save data.
should I reformat that 2nd HD to clean it off or keep vista on it? Also how will I tell win7 to save data on the 2nd HD instead of the first HD? link to tutorials? search didnt find anything specific tho I might not have used the rights search terms.

From what I read I unplug the current HD, install new HD, boot to that n install win7.
the vista HD will show up as the 2nd HD...yes?

thanks,

Msongs

A:win7 on new HD and save data to 2nd HD?

Yeah, I'd unplug the existing drive and then boot from the Win 7 install disc.

You tell Win 7 to save data on a particular drive by choosing that drive when you save a file.

Have you considered dividing your new disc into C for Win 7 and D for data, and then using the old drive as a backup disc for data?

Eventually, reformat the Vista disc, but you don't have to until you decide everything is cool with Windows 7.

got my new ssd and will do a clean install of windows in a day or so. common internet advice seems to be to copy drivers to a disk and save for install on the new ssd. how does one 'save" network drivers? most of my hardware came with driver/install disks so I can start with those drivers then update to the latest via the internet after the ssd is up and running. on another note, can one open a program and run it from the secondary hard drive (the old HDD)? I know I can access data files with no problems, files liked downloads, desktop, and my documents type folders. Thanks!

A:best way to save drivers for win7 new install in ssd...

Just download the exe file to a flash drive. You find the exe file at the manufacturer`s website.

If you have the network drivers on the cd, don`t worry about it.

Yes, you can run programs from the other drive, but they have to be installed to it from the new system.

I know the error I made (not knowing it) but don't know how to undo it. Can post a screen shot of needed but I'll do it in words.

The Personalization screen accessible in right click from desk top in Win7 shows a default window top of page and Windows color window bottom middle. Opening that lower one reveals the old style XP colors and fonts adjustments plus some others. I made adjustments there.

But then I saved to the default Sample at the top of page. _That_ turned of the ability to
open that Windows color selection on the lower screen. I would like to redo some things.

How can I reset to default? Any reset to default will do even if I lose some settings

I'm secretary of a local sports club and I've always saved my files using layers of sub-folders, something that XP and Win7 allowed me to do. Not so Win 10 - when I saved and then copied into Win10, most of the folders were either lost, screwed up or dumped all over the place.

Here's how I did it in Win7: (Obviously there are more folders at the top level and many more sub-folders underneath.)

My solution is to rename every sub-folder that only had a date so that eg under Agendas are now "Agenda 2015" & "Agenda 2016". This should work but the other problem I had is that some of what I saved went into This PC and others were 'taken over' by OneDrive, and I've no idea how/why.

I posted in the Microsoft Community as that seemed the sensible thing to do. One helpful insider suggested that I'd booted into the Start Screen [which doesn't allow folder hierarchies] instead of into the desktop and asked if I'd activated tablet mode (which I hadn't). But I want to end up with Folders in Documents. Another thought I'd not got used to W10's File Explore (which I haven't) and a third was a grumpy goat, picking holes. Horrid man.

At the moment I'm having to save everything to my desktop - that goes against everything I've been taught and I'm running out of space.

The way that folders work is essentially the same in windows 7 and Windows 10. It's only the start menu that is changed

How you perform your transfer depends basically on how much data is involved

Ok guys this is a hard one, I've recently noticed a big problem with my laptop running win7 32 bit, I have tryed everything possible to fix it with no success, the following problems are occouring:

Only certain programs will run, if i run windows games folder explorer.exe crashes, same as if i run performance monitor and other control panel programs, I cant save a file to my computer eg if i open notepad type some text and hit save it just crashes, same with itunes and alot of other software i have, the system is running slower then usual aswell and the only things i have done recently are, a windows update, itunes update and adobe reader update, now ill tell you what i have done to try fix the issue.

I have run ESET Smart security, Malware Byts anti mull ware in safe mode and found no virus / Trojans etc, i have restored windows back to before i done any updates, I've checked registry for exe file association issues ive turned off all firewalls and re-installed most recend windows updates, ive turned off UAC and run a CHKDSC and everything still crashs?

NOTE: im sure its not a file permissions issue as i can save a file i create using photoshop to anywhere on my pc.

Im stuck i normally can fix my issues but i dont have a clue on this one!

What I need: to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate on the same PC, using the same hardware. There are many good reasons, so we'll just call it 'maintenance'.

Previous experience: I have never reinstalled Win7 on the same computer / I have installed Win7 from scratch over XP twice / I have installed XP over XP (and previous versions going back to DOS ) 100's of times.

What scares me: I have never successfully retained or recaptured Outlook rules, e-mail settings, e-mail structure, internet (DSL) settings, network settings, scheduled tasks, Outlook (Office 2010) events (reminders), general tweaks etc. on any of my REinstalls. Because I run multiple home-based businesses I have 11 e-mail accounts and (at last count) something like 97 rules for routing e-mails in Outlook.

What I need: I REALLY would like to find a way to capture and save as many of these settings as possible to reduce the time needed to get back up and running on the new install. Windows backup and restore or some 3rd party utility? What would you suggest??

A:Win7 reinstallation (on same PC) advice - SAVE SETTINGS, rules, etc.

There is a tool from Microsoft called " USMT " it is a command driven tool. It backs up your settings , along with your files like network drives and network printers.

Added: You could also do is Install Windows setup the way you like it and capture an image . Sysprep .

I just got my PC back after 3 1/2 weeks of a nightmare involving the motherboard going bad and taking two processors with it.

While troubleshooting/fixing it, the PC was hooked up to a 1024x768 monitor (mine is 1280x960), and so the desktop icons rearranged.

Although a small hassle in the relative scheme of things, I was not looking forward to repositioning the icons when I hooked the PC up to my monitor.

But lo and behold, when I did, all the icons were in the correct place.

The only explanation I can think of is that Windows 7 "remembers" the icon layout for each screen resolution. Is this what happened here?

A:Does Win7 save desktop icon positioning for different resolutions?

Yes, they are saved in the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop Registry Key.
Mine has two, one for 120dpi, one for 96dpi resolution.

Hey guys, first post here.

Basically I'm trying to set a slideshow as my desktop background but everytime I click the Desktop Background link in Personalization it always takes me to this: imgur: the simple image sharer

And even if I go to where my background selection is, it just won't save the changes.

Also if I select a theme I made before this started happening (With a slide show background) I should normally be able to right click desktop > Next desktop background. But that either doesn't work, or doesn't show up at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

P.S I recently installed "DreamScene", "Windows 7 Start Orb Changer" and "StartOrbz Studio (Although I haven't used this one yet)" I figured it would have something to do with one of these, but anything I try isn't working

Hi all. I've been building PC's awhile but I'm starting to get quite stressed and hung up over an issue I'm having with my new build. I cannot get passed the initial start up during Windows 7 installation. Just as the "starting windows" animation gets going, it stops. The system stops responding. Tried on a USB stick as well as on DVD. Same problem.

Ugh.

My build is as follows...

Asus P8Z68m-Pro
Coolermaster G550M (Pulled from my previous working system)
3570k
4 GB Corsair DDR 3 1600
Evo 850 250gb
Win 7 Pro

As I type I'm running memtest86 on the system and it's coming out fine. I really don't know what else I can do. If this is a hardware issue, how an earth would I even begin to diagnose it. There's a complete lack of any sort of error message. The system just stops in its tracks. Bad mobo. Bad CPU. Bad Ram. Bad PSU?

CPU temps are OK. I can play around in Bios all day with no issues. I have crossed checked the settings so many times. See, I really enjoy playing a tweaking PC's, but when these zero-sum errors with no apparent causes run the show, I feel that this isn't the hobby for me

And no, I can't RMA anything. Bought all the parts second hand as I didn't see any incentive to pay the premium to upgrade to Skylake. I just don't need the 15-20 % improvement in performance.

Hi all

Just a stupid little problem with W7 I noticed which is VERY confusing but simple to fix.

I changed via the dialog the TEXT SIZE via the screen resolution in the control panel to CUSTOM SIZE.

With one of the newer "Cinema" or Very Wide screen (1680 X 900) displays after I'd increased the text size to over 160 % I didn't get the possibility to SAVE any documents any more via the SAVE AS button. The SAVE dialog would appear but the SAVE button was missing.

The effect was noticed in Office 2007 (all programs) Notepad etc etc.

Seems to be a Windows fault as this should not be allowed to happen.

on more traditional "Squarer" type monitors -- no problem.

I couldn't find the answer by googling but a bit of "trial and Error" fixed the problem.

I hope I can explain this clearly.

When I go to an Open or Save dialog box in any application and I click on any folder any where in Windows outside of the application, the Save as... or Open dialog for that application switches to that folder, which is great feature because it quickly enables me to change the location in those dialogs. It's not currently working.

My question is, where is the setting the enables or disables that functionality.

What is a good file and size to save my edited photography in? My pictures are for a membership website.

A:Edited Photos for Web

While you're working on the picture, you should save it in the default format of your graphics editor at the maximum size you have available in order to keep the quality of your master to the best possible.

For actual submission, the site itself will probably have restrictions on what size and format you should use. If not it will depend on the nature of the picture.
You shouldn't use the GIF format for photographs as it limits the number of colours available. You shouldn't use JPEG for line art, as it was designed for photos. BMP files are normally too big.

Whenís the last time you didnít have an application hang on you during shutdown? XP waits a grueling 20 seconds by default before trying to kill services that are still running when youíre trying to get out of the office, but you can knock this down to as low as zero with a quintet of registry hacks.

Make the following changes in regedit:

* Under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop, change the values for WaitToKillAppTimeout and HungAppTimeout to 1000 or 2000 (this is the wait time in milliseconds).
* Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop, change the values for WaitToKillAppTimeout and HungAppTimeout to 1000 or 2000.
* Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control, change the value for WaitT... Read more

I took my moms 8mm film to Costco & had it transferred to DVD's which I now have almost 3 hours of video. The videos are all short & in know particular order. I want to save each video individually in my computers video library so I can put them in some order by guessing what year they are from & also want to be able to send video to relatives of only video that they are in. File format is .vob, has anyone done this? What software editing did you use?

Hi ahxrecoil

what you are refering to is probably whats called a browser hijacker it is a form of malware. I would definately go to the hjt forum (in this site) and follow the instruction. Leave the registry alone.

let us know how you get on

Hi

Iíve been trying to view my edited jpg pics on a TV through a dvd player.

I can burn a cd with unedited jpgs, and see them on the TV ok.

Whenever I try that with an edited jpg, all that is displayed is either a blank screen, or a jpg symbol.

I can view the edited pics by making them into a short movie ok, but that does not really seem to give the same quality, more noticeable now that I have upgraded to a 40Ē LCD TV.

Appreciate any assistance.

A:view edited jpg on tv

Try keeping the file names to the old FAT requirement of 8 digits and no spaces. Your best bet is to save them to a separate folder with the original file name. Also don’t strip the EXIF information from the file when you save it.

Those are the two things that will prevent an edited photo from showing on the camera LCD when you reload it back to the camera. I’m guessing your DVD player might use FAT naming conventions.

hello there,

Is there anyone who can tell me why mp3 files I have changed a little with Audacity or Wavosaur will not play with Windows Media Player 11 on my old XP? I have the K-lite codec pack and all that.
They do play on my Windows 7. And I do know this is a 7 forum, sorry for asking.

regards, L.

A:edited mp3's won't play on XP

As a guess, could it be the bitrate that the MP3 is being save as? or the MP3 encoder you are using?

intermittent problem

pointer jumps to the task bar. Sometimes is waits a few seconds before it jumps to the task bar....just long enough to lure me into thinking its done. Then it resumes.

Its not trying to point me to anything in particular. When I just sit back and watch it, the pointer will shift back and forth between several taskbar icons.

thoughts?

A:Edited: Erratic pointer

What kind of interface device are you using, mouse, touch pad, touch screen?
When the pointer goes back to the task bar does it always follow the same path, or does it move until it hits an edge and then follow along the edge?

Well, My computer recently caught something rather anoyying. Actually. I'ts the first time I've ever had to ask for help. I think I got most of the malware off by myself. Not 100% sure. Due to the fact that I can't run most programs, open any folders or even use the run function. Heres whats wrong with my computer.

Run function restricted
All folders restricted
Registry Editing restricted
Task manager restricted
administrative tools restricted
All Drives including external restricted.

Could be more. Cant make it past that. I can't get my task manager and run function back because I cant edit the reg. Even if I wanted to get to the reg I can't without software. And not even those can edit the reg. I feel like I'm at a dead end and might have to start new :-/ I do hate sharing a computer with my family

Update: Command line is resrticted as well....

Welcome to TSG LimitAten,

Doe sound similar to changes malware makes. Let's see what all is loaded there and decide a course of action after that.

Please download HijackThis from Here. Then click on the downloaded file to install HijackThis. After it is installed open HijackThis and select Do a system scan and save logfile. Use copy/paste and post that log back here for review.

Also go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here. You can use separate posts here if needed.

I need to edit a document in PDF and I know PDF wont allow that. Isn't there a way to save it as a different type of file or do something where i can than edit it? I have not figured out if there is a way how to do that.

this is the first draft of some rules revision for my industry and it is 116 pages long so it is not very practical to just retype it. It will make it easier if i can find a way to treat it like a Word document where i can highlight, edit, delete etc.

any ideas??

Thanks

Hi,

This all happened because I wanted to get rid of a context menu item. I retraced my steps for you:

1. I exported a .reg file for back up.
2. I went into the path below to find what to delete. I didn't find anything close, except for an application key. I deleted the app key, just giving it a shot since I had made a backup. It didn't get rid of the menu item.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

3. I learned later that the menu item was elsewhere in the registry, namely the path below:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell

4. Deleted the necessary directory. Tested it, and it worked.
5. I tried importing my previously exported .reg file, and it said something a lot like, "Cannot restore registry file due to processes that are currently running".
6. I tried doing it in safe mode to no avail.
7. And now I can't play music! : (

Your help is greatly appreciated,
kris

A:Edited the registry and now I can't play mp3's

Hi Everyone,
I had a random program that I was able to change the Windows Version i was at. But now it is conflicting with most of my programs, for example an rdp patcher says I am not official windows 7.
If anyone can help me switch it back to home premium and to prevent stuff from happening to my computer, that would be great.

Here is what an example looks like in a regular program:

Download and use that version only to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with the Product Key printed on the COA sticker, following the steps in the blue link to get a perfect install.

I have a problem at work on the computers, i work for a company named PHG, and somehow (i am guessing BIOS??) the time has been edited from showing eg: 11:16 to f**kPHG11:16
This is a problem as profanities offend the people who work on this affected computer, and when certain software is loaded from CD which reads from windows the time format to display it in the appropriate format, even though its not the actual time, but the time a file was created it also displays in big black letters along with the time f**kPHG:09:55:45 (as in 9:55 and 45 seconds) so it seems an extra field has been added to the time. (the extra : i nfront of the 09 makes me think this...)
Another thing i noticed is that if you double click on the time in the system tray to open up date and time properties whereas on an unchanged system, the time is aligned to the left side of its edit box, wheras on the edited system it has been moved to the right as if something is infront of it.....

Any help on how this was done and how to rectify it ASAP would be much appreciated!!

Just kidding of course...but seriously that sounds like a program that has been installed on your computer to make it do that. If you know what programs should and should not be on your computer, you can search through the registry and find the program that's making it do that. Also, if you're on XP on that computer, you can hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to Processes and see which ones are not supposed to be there. If you're not sure, post a list and/or screenshot of the list of processes.

Hello-

I was trying to install Norton 360 to on my mom's computer (Windows XP is the OS) and got a message that administrator and system needed to be added to the registry in order for Norton to be installed, so I followed their instructions that directed me to Start/Run/regedit. Originally, just my mom's name was listed and so I added SYSTEM and ADMINISTRATOR to the list and check the second box under the "advanced" options... something to do with the parent/child. When I restarted, the welcome screen comes up, but then it goes to a blue screen and no desktop and I am stuck right there and can't access anything. I was able to access the task manager when I hit ctrl-shft-esc at the blue screen)

I tried holding down F8 and selected "Safe Mode" (just went to a plain black screen that said "safe mode in all four corners) and then I think there was an option for restore to a point when the system was working well and that didn't seem to do anything.

Any suggestions of how to fix the mess I have made and getting the computer working normally would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and expertise!

(I apologize if i didn't explain it with the proper terminology...it happened so fast and I couldn't get further than the blue screen and I am on a computer at the local library posting this!)

I feel like a moron.

Thank you for reading,

Jen

I ran across something weird tonight while looking for a picture I couldn't find for the life of me. I decided to use windows built in search function. I happen to notice a picture of me and my ex from along time ago, one that I sorta cut out her face to cut her out of the picture with like a black spot, the weird thing is the picture showed up in it's original state in the thumbnail.

When I open it, it's still edited like I did along time ago, but the thumbnail shows the original pic. After a bit of research I come to know that it's because windows caches thumbnails, but I was wondering is there anyway I can un-edit this picture and restore it to it's original state?

After years of adjusting the column width on the left side of standard help screens (index tab or search tab), it occurred to me that there might be a way to change the default widths.

Can the CHM file be edited in any way to adjust the column widths? Even a hex edit would be workable if I could just force the width of the first column ("Title"). Examples of what I have and what I want are attached.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
