I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The adaptive keyboard on my 2014 X1 Carbon appears to be failing. It regularly registers phantom button presses near the right end that trigger (e.g.) the settings or keyboard backlight depending on which strip is active. When it launches the settings window, it happens frequently enough to interfere with use. I found many suggestions to update the bios, e.g.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-20A7-adaptive-keyboard-phantom-butt...I have installed all updates from Lenovo's System Update (the machine is running Windows 10), so the bios should be up to date. Are there any other software fixes I should try? If it is a hardware issue, is itsomething I can do myself? Based on my current usage I could survive with the strip entirely disabled, but I don't see a consumer-facing way to do that. Thanks.

X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG) Laptop (ThinkPad) on ThinkPad Pro Dock.  I have a secondary display (connected with DisplayPort).  When the battery is charging, the secondary display works properly.  As soon as the battery is fully charged (100%), the secondary display disconnects and goes black (no signal detected).  The power is still on the the display.  The only way to get the secondary display to reconnect is to unplug the power supply from the dock, then plug it in again.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon and take very good  care of it and keep it in a laptop bag with padding. Today I used it, closed the lid and put it back in my bag. When I went home and wanted to use is I took it out of the laptop bag and opened up the lid and there was a black block at the top left of the screen.  I noticed a crack but is in the inside of the screen and not on the outside and I can't feel anything with my finger or I can't see any scratch or mark. There is a vertical pixelated line from the top of the bottom of the screen. The only thing I can think that could have caused is was when i opened the lid I used the top left corner to  open the screen. All I can think of is that because the lid is so thin and  flexible putting pressure on one part of the lid caused the problem. If there is zero external damage cause will the warranty cover fixing the screen?

A:Thinkpad X1 Carbon has internal screen crack from opening lid

I always tell people that it is best to use 2 hands or, at least, to open from the center.  I agree that the lid is thin and flexible.  I suggest taking it to a dealer and talking to a person.  With screen problems, it is best if both parties are looking at the same thing.

First, are you still under warranty?  (Some are)  Check here:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup

If you are under warranty, don't mess with things; call support.  In U.S. it's 1-800-426-7378

Assuming no warranty, if it were mine, I would try to reset things.  Pull the bottom cover and remove the main battery.  Disconnect the coin-cell (CMOS) battery and press the power button a few times to drain capacitors.  Put it back together and plug it in.  See if it is alive again.  DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A BIOS PASSWORD THAT YOU DON'T KNOW.

Hoping this problem will be noticed by more people, the original post on this issue came from:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/T470-Linux-Power-Bridge-wrong-discharge-order/td-p/365...https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/63odjr/t470_battery_order_question_internal_discharges/ Brief description: same problem with OS including Win 10, Ubuntu 16.04, Gentoo etc. The internal battery always gets discharged first regardless its remaining power, which is generally harmless but seems not so good for the internal battery life. With my own T470 machine, updated with the latest 1.29 BIOS, this problem remains. According to searching results online, this little bug came with early versions of X's and T' including T460. PS: this issue had been successfully fixed with T460 via BIOS update 1.26, hoping it would be fixed with T470 sooner or later. Best regards.

I was recently caught in a rainstorm while biking with my laptop in my backpack while it was turned on. A small amount of water got into the system and the machine will now not turn on. When I plug in the machine, a green light on the laptop body next to the charging port turns on, which implies to me that the motherboard is functioning. However, the light indicating that the battery is charging does not turn on, and the machine itself also does not turn on. With the help of an IT desk, I opened the machine and unplugged the battery and the machine still did not turn on when plugged into the wall. However, we were unsure of whether we had bypassed the battery successfully, or whether this is even possible on this specific laptop. What I am wondering is whether there is a way to bypass the battery and run the system on wall power, to determine whether it is only the battery which has been damaged? If this is impossible, is there any other way to determine whether it is the battery which is the only failing piece before I commit to purchasing a new battery which may or may not solve my problem?

hi all,  The reason of writing this is to express disagreement with Lenovo ThinkPad battery replacement policy.I?m a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen user, and I have been using this device for little more than an year now. Everything has been working ok, however recently (probably 2 months ago) I noticed that my battery dies much more quickly than its used to. I checked the warranty status and ... surprize, surprize the warranty of the battery had expired a month ago (I really hope that is coincident !?!). That obviously didn?t make me happy, but I said, well, nothing last forever, and one year of decent battery life is probably all you could hope for nowadays, even from X1 carbon. So, I decided, I?d pay for another year of decent battery life. I called the support line and asked how much it will cost me to get my battery replaced on site (on site replacement is part of the ThinkPad warranty). The response I got back was kind of unexpected. They explained to me that actually ?the onsite repair service is not applicable in this case as my battery is out of support already?! Now, let me explain how I feel about this.Little more than and year ago I bought a very expensive device, for that money I could have bought two devices with similar spec from another vendor/brand and kept one for spare just in case something goes wrong with the one I?m using. However, I decided to stick to ThinkPad as it was a brand famous for its built quality and more importantly 3 ... Read more

I received my refurbished ThinkPad today and the battery indicator has not gone above 0% all day while having it plugged in. * The laptop will not power on when unplugged.* I have updated everything that I can (there is an intel management engine update and a BIOS update that both require having a charged battery pack to continue).* The vantage software reports that the battery is charging and that it is in good health.* I have let it charge while powered off for a few hours.* I used the reset button on the bottom of the laptop, and inspected the battery's connections but saw no obvious issues (at least there were none to my inexperienced eyes).* I am currently charging the battery pack I also received today to make sure that the issue is not the cord. Is there anything else I can try while I wait to be able to contact support?

I've just replaced the battery on my Carbon X1, and the new battery is interfering with the touchpad, making it hard to press the buttons. The new battery (actually a new, used battery, but it's way better than the original) isn't puffet out at all and as far as I can tell is no thicker than the original, but it seems to stick up somewhat from the bottom (when the keyboard is removed, I can press it down but it pops up just enough to interfere). There don't appear to be any fasteners on the bottom side of the battery, so I'm not sure exactly what it supposed to hold it in down. Anyone? Thanks!

Hi All Day 2 using new Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6 Gen (HD touchscreen), 8GB RAM. The battery life seems to be about half the 10-14 hours advertised. Alarming. Wondering if it's a manufacture fault or pains reverting back to Windows OS/Lenovo from Apple Macbook Air 11 inch which has 1/3 to double battery life even though it's approaching 4 years old. Or does the battery need to 'warm up' so to speak, i.e. will get better. I keep screen low to medium brightness and sync basic folders. Feeling a bit cheated. Also the 8 GB Ram isn't hot stuff. Regretting not going for the 16 GB. It's a good product but not special. Any views from people? richard

Hello! Recently I am unable to recharge my X1 with the included Lenovo 65W USB C Charger.  When I plug it in, the orange light blinks (1 second on, 1 off), and the windows battery status icon on the system tray flicks on and off between "plugged-in (charging)" and "not charging".  It seems that when I plug it in, windows is trying to mount something like a USB drive, as the icon to unmount a USB C device flicks on and off.  Furthermore, the task bar flickers as it goes on and off thinking that it is trying to mount and unmount a USB device. I've plugged in a few different USB C chargers I have "for my phone, for a battery pack, from a MacBook, etc...", and they work on my X1 no problem. I have 2 Lenovo 65W USB C chargers, and I've tried both of them with the same result.  I'm pretty sure the chargers are ok, as they will charge other devices (like my phone, a battary pack, and a MacBook).  Just, when I plug them into my X1, I get problems. Not sure if this is due to a recent Lenovo Vantage update, or Windows 10 Update.  I recently did the 2018-12 Windows 10 update.  However, even if I turn the computer off the Lenovo charger blinks the orange charge light, and will not charge the X1. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Then I have to connect it to the AC outlet, when the power button lights up with Green. If I disconnect the Power cord after that, the laptop will still power ON with the battery. The battery is fully charged.  This problem is intermittent, but is happenning more often now, hence I like to know if this issue can be resolved just by resetting the laptop or is this a hardware/configuration issue. I have Windows 10 running on the system.

There are reports of extreme throttling on X1 Carbon Gen6 (reviews on Lenovo reviews US page, or reddit). It seems X1C6 is limited to 23W/29W TDP, while X1 Yoga Gen 3 is limited to 44W TDP for short and long term bursts.  It makes little sense as physically X1C6 cooler looks bigger thus thould be able to handle longer/harder loads. Can we hope that it will be fixed in the nearest future? Or is there an actual reason for lowering X1C6 TDP, so people who expect 8650U to run at 44W should just look into buying X1Y3?
