I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I upgraded my hard disk. Now my Windows 7 Professional product key is "stuck" on my old hard disk (which is now mounted as an external USB drive). I tried the sniffer product key programs to recover my product key (I have legitimately paid for and own the Windows 7 Professional key) but I am getting "do not have permission" error when sniffing old hard disk for product key.
Any ideas on how I might recover the Professional product key I own? (I have tried about 6 sniffer programs but all deny access to external Windows 7 directories)

Thanks for any help.

I had a 400 MB HDD partitioned in 3 parts. Since the last 3 years the HDD was working fine. One day, the computer simply froze at windows XP boot screen. I restarted the machine quite a few times , but it use to freeze at the Windows loading screen of XP.

Then I removed the HDD and loaded win XP on another HDD 160 GB and made it the primary device. Now when I try to connect the earlier HDD as a secondary slave, the system just freezes and as soon as I disconnet the HDD from the cable, the system starts functioning.

I have a lot of data in the 400 MB HDD. Need to recover the data which is there in D and E partition.

Can anyone tell me the process with which I can recover the data from the old HDD ?

hello,
I have problem with my hard disk's chip of my laptop. How do i recover all datas from it.
Thank you.

A:Recover data from hard disk.

You've not exactly explained the situation very well.
are you saying the laptop is broken or the hard drive itself. "hard discs chip" doesn't mean anything in any lingo lol.

if its the laptop at fault you can buy a usb 2.5" caddy place the hard drive in it and use another computer to recover all of your data and files.

if the hard drive has failed and no longer works, theres little you can do. you could try a caddy like above, placing it in the freezer is an old trick to gain a small amount of life from a dying drive.

I dont mean to go on.. but this is why EVERYONE should back up their data regularly. harddrive failures shouldnt result in manic.. it should be "oh well its all safe on another drive/disc/flash drive" ect

A:How to recover the crashed hard disk

There are no guarantees that you can recover all or any of the data on the drive. To try and recover the data you will need another working PC that will allow you to attach the drive you are trying to recover from as a secondary drive. You will some type of recovery software to scan the drive and attempt to recover the files. Some people have reported success with using the GetDataBack program:

Hi, Yes you can do a fresh install using Windows 10 installation media from the following link      https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 (Note: Using a tool to create the iinstalltion media). Now, use the media to install fresh Windows 10 on your computer. You need to use same version (Home) . During the installtion process, it will ask for a key, please SKIP and continue Windows 10 will automatically activate when you come online. The key is in the BIOS. Regards.

If I were you, I would try taking out the hard drive and then slave it to another computer and see if the files show up on the slaved hard drive and then try to transfer them to the computer. If they don't show up or the hard drive is blank, then the data is probably lost.

A:Can't recover Windows 10 on to replaced hard disk

If you are not getting the Recover from Drive option, you must have missed selecting the option to "Backup system files to the recovery drive" when creating the Recovery drive, so you will have to download and create Windows 10 Installation Media to reinstall Windows 10 to you laptop.     Download Windows 10https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 When you get to the point where it asks for a Product Key, select the to skip  (or I do not have a key) option and Windows will automatically activate upon completion of the installation.  Unfortunately you will be starting clean, so any data will have to be restored from backup, and applications will have to be reinstalled.  FYI, If you do no have your data backed up, with luck you may still be able to recover it from the old drive if it just failed to boot from the drive, by mounting the drive into an external 2.5 inch USB enclosure, and copying off the the c:\users\<username> folders to your new HD.  Cheers,

Hi all,

I got a new Toshiba Satellite L50-B notebook with Windows 8.1 64-bit installed. As I need to go a special place, I passed the notebook to a IT guy and have the whole disk encrypted using DiskCryptor. The guy told me that he cannot boot the OS, even he entered the correct password. And one more nice thing. The guy did NOT make recovery discs first!

Since the hard disk is encrypted I cannot boot it. Also I cannot do a system recovery. I booted the notebook into Linux and copied all the content in the recovery partition to a USB drive.

Now, I would like to know if I can get my machine up and running again. I don't mind all my content will be lost as it is a new machine.

Would you show me how to make a set of custom recovery disc out of the content in the recovery partition?
Do I need to format my hard disk in UEFI mode? if so, how?

Please help!

Hi,

Recently my 320GB Seagate Hard Disk faced a problem and had to be replaced.

Am running Win7 x64 on my new 1TB WD Hard Disk. However, there was some important and slightly sensitive data that I still want to recover from my old Sata Hard Disk.

Chronology of events before replacement:

Mid-July: Hard Disk was working fine. I had to go out of town for a month. PC was not being used during that period.
Aug 11- I returned home, but PC refused to boot. Even the BIOS screen or the name of the motherboard does not appear. Just a blank screen. After a couple of hours of replugging in all the hardware and power cables, the PC booted and worked normally.
Aug17- PC refused to boot, repeated the same procedure of unplugging the hardware etc but this time i noticed that one of the connectors of my hard disk appeared slightly chipped off at the edge (cant remember if its the power connector or the sata connector). PC worked normally after a couple of hours of playing around with the hardware.
Aug 18- PC was freezing, every mouse click was taking a couple of minutes to respond. I tried rebooting but the faced the same problem as the previous two times. Unplugged the HardDisk and used an old IDE hard disk to figure out if its indeed the hard disks problem. The old IDE hard disk worked.

I went and purchased a new SATA hard disk which works fine now, absolutely no issues.
But i wanted some of my data from the old disk, so I tried connecting the old Hard Disk back but cant get it to bo... Read more

I'm desperate here, really need some ideas.

We offer B&B accommodation at home.
All our bookings until October were on the hard disk.
That hard disk no longer works!
It does not boot the computer, nor can it be accessed from another computer.
I took it to the shop where I bought it and they were unable to get it to work.

The disk turns, but for some reason is not recognized.
Then the message comes up asking if we want to format it.

The problem began this morning when the computer got blocked up.
I rebooted and got a message about a missing or corrupt ntfs.sys file in system32/drivers (the OS is Windows XP Professional).

I tried all the suggestions I found, like trying to restore from CD etc., but to no avail.
According to the shop where I bought it (the disk is a MAXTOR HD) there is something defective.

Is there any way to recover this data? I really need to or else we cannot make any more bookings.
Would the manufacturer be able to do so?
Are there services that might be able to help?

Hii everyone.

I have a Western Digital blue 640 GB internal SATA HDD, which showed bad hard disk in startup repair. It does not shows in disk management or device manager when connected via USB port. But shows status as "online" in diskpart when connected via SATA port & when I enter startup tools using windows installation disk. The SMART test fails in BIOS when hard disk is connected internally. I want to recover the data of this hard disk because it is utmost important for me.

The hard disk is spinning normally and not making any clicking noise. Also, I checked via a software called 'Hard Disk Sentinel' that it has about 519 bad sectors & showed 0% health & 0 days remaining.
Is there any possibility of getting my data back? If yes, then how? I'm just a student, & the data recovery experts take a huge amount in recovering data. Please suggest all possible solutions for recovering data.

Thank You.

A:How to recover data of Hard Disk with many bad sectors?

Utmost important data, along with the OS partition, is best backed up at least weekly if not bi-weekly onto trustworthy external media. Where are your backups? If no backups, a local recovery expert working in a serious-minded business-oriented computer fix-it place will probably be your best bet.
Have you ever used any kind of recovery software before? Rule one: whatever you decide to use must not write anything anywhere onto the hard-drive.
There are several very good recovery programs available:
MiniTool Power Data Recovery, Piriform's Recova, EaseUS Data Recovery, and many more. I have pay-for versions, however, you might get results with one or two free versions.

Hello!

I have recently bought a 1 TB Seagate external hard disk. It worked very good.
Some days ago I had to format my computer and reinstall windows, so I saved my important data on the external hard disk.
Accidentally, I did the format while the hard disk was connected to the computer.
I tried to connect the hard disk to my other computer, a massage popped up saying "Seagate storage device was successfully installed and ready to be used" , but I couldn't find it in "My Computer".
Then I went to My Computer-Manage-Disk Management and there I saw the hard disk, but it was Unallocated.
I tried to activate it, and then I saw it on My Computer. However, when I double clicked on it, A massage saying "This drive is not formatted, would you like to format it now?" popped up. I said NO and then tried some file recovery programs, but with no success.
The only program that worked was "VirtualLab" It found the files, all of them, but I couldn’t save them because I had to buy the program.

I Tried the "Recuva" software, but when I tried to scan the hard disk, Recuva said "Unable to read boot sector".

Please, I really need to recover my files from there, There are some Medical Documents there for my sisters surgery.
Help me up please!!!

A:Recover data from External hard disk

$40 is actually a very good price if the program can see and promises to recover all the files you need. Free software is free software; sometimes it works fine and sometimes you get what you pay for, especially with data recovery. The ones I would have suggested cost significantly more (GetDataBack and Easeus Recovery Wizard).

My Vista Operating System Hard Disk Just crashed. It was running Vista Home Premium. My Computer is an HP 8170in media centre PC.

I have managed to salvage most data off it from the other partitions as well as the C:\ except the my documents which has all my user files on them. I have already tried using an XP computer to get into the hard disk but it doesnt allow me to change the securities from there. Have tried changing security ownership by using articles from the forum by goin on the security tab in XP but its not allowing me to change this for the documents and settings. Is it located elsewhere by any chance? Am i changing the wrong folder? At the minute it just shows the folder grayed out with no access to it... you do not have permission message and its disk size shown is 0mb. Assuming this is becuase of a security issue.

I also bought a new hard disk and used the hp restore disks to re add windows vista on that hard disk. Now on that system i cannot access my old hard disk and i get a blue screen. If i attempt to only boot from my old hard disk i get a 0x0000007b (0x78d2524 oxc0000034 ox00000000 0x00000000) error

A:Recover my documents from a crashed vista OS hard disk

Documents & Settings is not a folder but a junction point pointing to the users folder.
It is the same for the My documents icon.
So from the other PC, your documents are somewhere else if you moved the location or in c:\users\yourusername\
There once you discovered the path of your files/folders, you can take ownership and transfer your files.
Next time as soon as you have installed your OS, move the location of your "Documents" folder in another partition.

I've got a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra, 40 gig version.
Well, it's messed up. It froze (No big deal, this happens alot), so I take the battery out. Usually this makes it reboot, and things go back to normal.
Well, this time, the Zen decided to be destroyed instead.
Whenever it starts up, I get four options:
1. Clean Up
2. Format all
3. Reload the OS
4. Reboot

1 does nothing, if I try 3 it says "Harddisk problem", 4 causes the MP3 player to reboot, but to no effect, as it just goes back to this screen.

I obviously haven't tried 2, as my entire objective is to recover the contents of the hard drive.

I've got LOTS of stuff on this Zen. (I bought a 40 gig Zen just so it could hold alot of stuff...), and I'd be extremely pissed if I had to lose it all.
Are there any ideas of what I could do to try and recover the contents of the drive? I'm willing to try anything.

The Zen's under warranty, so whatever happens, as long as I get a chance to back-up the hard drive (Which I probably should have done before now...), I can just then send it in to get a new one.

But I really need to get that data.

When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found.

After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.

Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original.

The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:

Hello everybody.

I had a problem after uninstalling O&O Defrag using Revo uninstaller. My system became unstable, I tried system restore, tried to recover my system from the recovery partition, and a set of recovery CD's, all to no avail.

Someone suggested that I use Artellos ARCDS recovery CD. It made one pass then stopped working. I was advised that I would need to get a Windows XP Pro Media Center CD (2600 build) and run that. As of now I have no way to get that CD.

However, what I do have is a verified recovery DVD and 4 Hard disk backups all created on 02-06-10 using Paragon Drive Backup Pro 9.0

My problem is that I don't know how to use these DVD's, and want to avoid further damaging my PC.

I already booted the PC with the recovery and the #1 DVD, however, there are too many choices that I'm unfamiliar with and loath to try.

There is a simple restore wizard, which seems like the one i should use, however I'm not sure how to proceed from there.

If anyone here is familiar with Paragon 9.0 Pro, could you please advise me on how to proceed.

Thank you in advance for any time you spend on my behalf.

Hi all,

I am attempting to install Win7 in an Inspiron 1545 with a new SATA hard drive that was purchased. When i insert the drive, I get "Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found." I have verified the drive is not showing in the BIOS, I've already attempted to reseat the drive several times. In addition, I've attempted to load the chipset drivers, SATA drivers, etc from Dells website, the drive still does not show in the OS install when booting to DVD or in bios.
I dont believe it to be an issue with the new drive, as I plugged the new drive into another model Dell laptop and it recognizes the drive fine in BIOS, also I can still boot to the previous hard drive in this laptop without issue when i plug it back in.
Is there a specific driver, etc that I need to use for the drive to be recognized or other thoughts people have?

This is strange - either the new hard drive has a rare compatibility issue with your onboard controller (I use a 500Gbyte in my 1545 without probs)) or it is a mechanical problem.I would take a close look at the physical dimensions and compare your original hdd with the new one.Watch the video (even though it's about a 1525 (similar to an 1545) and an SSD hdd) -  go to 2:20

If any of you can help me out on this one, it would be great.

I have a 120 gb HD that I bought last year and it recently just died on me. When I plug it into my computer now, it instantly forces my computer to restart, and when it's hooked up when I start my PC the computer refuses to start up.

It's still under warranty (ends in about a month, so I'm glad it died when it did if it was ever going to) and Western Digital is sending me a replacement, so I'm ok there. I'd just like to know if it's at all possible to recover any of the data on it before I ship it back to them.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Forums,

I have a external hard drive that I think is malfunctiong. Its making beeping noises when turned on and is not showing in My Computer. Before gettin it back from my cousin he said it was givin him an error but nothing now. After doin a lil gogling I came across SpinRite but then wasnt sure becasue it is a USB external hard drive. A 500GB Lacie to be exact.

This HD is my life, havin all my design work since 2007 on it, and I was just usin it as a temp place to 'backup' until I got another HD plus burn what I really needed off. So perfect timing I guess.

Any and all help would be appreciated it. I really cant afford to pay a arm and a leg but if it can down to it Id have to.

What are my options if any? Thanks!

Hey guys,

I bought a Gateway laptop about a year and a half back. It didn't come with any sort of recovery cd, but it asked if I wanted to make one on the first bootup and I did. Since then the hard drive has been fried and I replaced it. Is it possible to reinstall Vista/Drivers from that CD, or will I need to reinstall the OS before I can recover?

Thanks.

A:New Hard Drive, Trying to Recover with CD

I hope you did a backup.

Go into the bios and set it so the computer will boot from the cd.
Put the cd in and reboot.

Sorry about all of the lost files.

Hard drive crashes are a pain.

Hi. I have Easy Recovery Pro, but I do not like the way it recovers files on a hard drive with a missing allocation table.

What software can I use to recover a hard drive where I know the data is still there, but the allocation table is missing. I used to use Norton Disk Doctor and Sytem Utilities.

Thank you:
Rhyder

Rhyder, the best data recovery software that I've ever used in my many years of computing comes from a company called Stellar. Their Stellar Phoenix recovery programs have saved my bacon quite a few times. I highly recommend the programs. The program will get your data back even though the allocation table is missing. Get all the details at:

Good luck to you. Cheers.

A:please help recover my hard drive

Sorry to inform you of this but what your asking for is very hard and expensive, plus it's not guaranteed to recover anything, you deleted, formatted and wrote over, if there is any thing left it's a sure thing that much of it is unreadable.

Hi everyone my sister in law's computer packed up and she thinks its down to the hard drive so she asked me to take it out for her and check it on mine. Im a complete novice when it comes to computers and the little i do know is just wot i've taught meself so here goes lol. I've took the side off my computer and ide cable (think its called that lol) that goes to my hard drive has another connection on it for another hard drive im guessin and the is some more power leads to plug into another hard drive so is it just straight forward plug and play to see if her hard drive will show up on my computer or do i have to go into my bios to set up the settings for the second hard drive. thanks

A:recover hard drive

You have it right . just connect the drive to the motherboard and the power supply. If you can read/access the drive...I suggest that the first thing you do is a series of scans for malware. While the drive is attached, I suggest that you run a diagnostic on the drive, following the instructions for usage of such...available at the website of the respective hard drive manufacturer. Run the long/extended test.Hard Drive Installation and Diagnostic Tools - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/28744/hard-drive-installation-and-diagnostic-tools/ LouisYou may have to change the jumper setting, http://www.pcguide.com/byop/byop_SettingHardDriveJumpers.htm

I have actually found that a recovery program called Pandora Recovery usually grabs most common file types and I have used it after a format a few times with good results.

Best of all it is free, you can download it from here

Is rather simple to use as well. Good luck

Hello.

Laptop W10. I created a letter in Documents about October/November last year. I posted the letter.

Now I am unable to find it. It is not in the folder. Totally gone.

If there a program which could find it on the Hard Drive please let me know. Thank you.

Although the file is identifiable if it was still in Documents, I do not remember the name to enter if searching by using a programme

I have an orphaned laptop, a Chicony MP 980, running Windows 98
Problem: No picture, just blank dark screen.

Preliminary diagnosis: Defective video card or problem with hard drive. Since early 2001, Chicony has stopped supporting all laptop models. No parts are available.

I have valuable material on the hard drive that I need to recover.

Any ideas on how I could do this? Please give easiest solutions first. I am not highly technical, so please keep it as simple and clear as possible.

Many thanks,

MJS

The hard drive is made by a company called "BSE Data Storage" 40 gigabyte IDE. When i try to boot to it, it says S.M.A.R.T Command Failed.

Not sure on jumper settings but when i boot to slave (guessing with jumpers although pretty sure it is correct), windows detects the drive in the device manager but no where else.

I want to extract a few imporant files off the hard drive.

The hard drive makes no ticking or scratching noises, other than the normal noise it should make.

This occured when i was trying to install a printer driver, other than that computer ran fine.

Im running Win XP on the computer and the bad hard drive.

Please Help.

Thanks,
Rio

I am working on a project with a private investigator, he has a computer that has been confiscated by the attorneys he works for, they wants to hire us to help them gain access to the email account they need to view for information in the investigation. It is a hotmail account; I have no prior experience in doing this but willing to give it a shot. Is there certain software I need to purchase to go through the hard drive to find the information we are looking for? Is there any other way to do this? The account is still active and being used from time to time just on different computers, they have the main computer which most of the activity was done from.

A:Recover Information From Hard Drive

Judging that hotmail is a internet based free mail program, I dont think there is much your going to find on the computer since all of the email is stored on a server that MSN owns. I dont think there are files that are left behind other than cache / cookies or temp files. What exactly is it you are looking for ? unless they saved the emails to the computer I dont think your going to find much.
