I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I recently purchased an XPS 13 (9360) with Windows 10 preinstalled, and today I wanted to install Arch Linux as a dual boot option. I discovered that Arch Linux does not recognize the NVMe PCIe SSD if the SATA conroller is set to Raid On mode in the BIOS. After browsing some forums, I found out that it is completely fine if I switch off the SATA controller (set to Disabled in the BIOS). So I did this, reinstalled Windows 10 first and everything was alright. This happened under BIOS version 1.0.7. But just after the fresh Windows install, I noticed that a new update for the BIOS was released (version 1.2.3), so I went ahead and updated the BIOS. The update completed without an error but at boot, no operating system could be detected.
I went into the BIOS, and under System Information as well, it was written that no hard drive at all was present (no NVMe PCIe nor SATA of course). If I switched the SATA controller to AHCI mode, the problem resolved itself, the BIOS reported the SSD and Windows 10 booted without a problem. So this is more like a question than a problem, but is this the intended behaviour? As far as I understand, if I have an NVMe PCIe SSD drive (CX2-8B512-Q11 NVMe LITEON 512 GB), there is no need for the SATA controller to be enabled, and this was indeed the case with the previous BIOS version (1.0.7). So is this a bug or am I not right somewhere?
My second question concerns External GPU support. The Thunderbolt firmware in the XPS 13 (9360) in principl... Read more

A:XPS 13 (9630) BIOS update & eGPU support

On the first question, was Windows reinstalled in SATA mode or NVMe?
On the second -- no, this system does not have any eGPU support -- so far, Dell has released that ONLY for some Alienware systems.  That doesn't definitively mean an eGPU won't work - but it does mean there's no support for one from Dell, and that it is more likely one won't work than that it will.

I know it's a recurring subject on this forum, but I have a new twist on it. I have a VN7-792G, which I hoped to upgrade with an NVMe SSD from the likes of Samsung. I know there has been a lot of talk about whether it's possible to boot from such drives, but my concern is whether there is something odd with my particular submodel (the 79T3 part maybe?) that causes it to lack any sign of NVMe hardware when I explore the hardware through Windows. The indication that such may be the case came when I compared a screenshot posted on this forum of the HWiNFO64 program with what I saw in that program when I ran it myself. Witness:Exhibit 1: Screenshot that Zorrobyte posted to the thread "Why is the M2 PCIE slot speed capped to 1.5GBs? VN7-592G-71ZL":  Exhibit 2: Screenshot from my VN7-792-79T3:  (I don't think you need HWiNFO to compare your hardware to these two results; the Device Manager from Windows seems to show the same nodes in a slightly different view.) It's quite apparent that the other person's screenshot contains two nodes that are described as "PCI Express x4 Bus" (one of which has a subnode which seems to an NVMe drive from Samsung), while my screenshot contains no such "PCI Express x4 Bus" nodes. So I was wondering if anyone can explain this discrepancy, or if they have knowledge of there being any variability of the presence of NVMe support even within the 792G product group?

THE SUMMARY~

whats up guys!

so i have a dell studio 1458 Laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v graphics card and im getting tired of not being able to play games on quality settings and good FPS, so im going to start an eGPU build for my computer.

after i return some other failed attempts to upgrade my GPU, ill have $160 to work with. so with this in mind i will be getting a PE4L adapter kit, and an ATI 6670 Desktop GPU. together this totals for me $161 shipped.

you can use other GPU's with a higher wattage PSU with that kit because it comes with the adapter for a PSU, but the 6670 is good because it wont bottleneck my CPU, and has good specs and low power consumption (15-20v 3A 65W if using something other then a computer PSU).

for the power supply, i will be using a IBM laptop charger PSU.

i will also need an external monitor, so for now, my 1080p TV will work for this until i get a monitor. (17"-20" 720 or 1080 or 900)

now my laptop has an express slot, so the PE4L adapter and kit will plug rite into that, then the power supply into the adapter, graphics card into adapter. then all you have to do is plug in monitor, turn on the eGPU, boot up windows, and then finally plug in adapter into computer. windows install hardware automatically, then you will have to install Graphics driver from the suppliers website, then reboot. if need be, you may have to disable internal graphics in device manager.

from what ive researched, this is what... Read more

Hi guys Just wondering if anyone has TB3 devices attached to their laptops (I do not have any TB3 devices to test) and can see if egpu support is possible using the following steps: Right-click on the Thunderbolt icon in your taskbar. When a Thunderbolt device is connected, this icon will appear automatically. If not, select the Start button and sroll through the program list to locate and open the Thunderbolt? Software first. In the context menu, select Settings and then go to Details....Look for "External GPUs supported" to see if the AKiTiO Node will work on your system (Yes) or not (No). https://www.akitio.com/information-center/node-gpu-compatibility Help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,Since the beginning I own this laptop it overheats. As soon as I play a game the CPU temperature will go up and fluctuate around 80-100 degrees celcius. I had to manually turn down the maximum CPU speed to about 60% in energy saving settings to keep it under 70C. This of course has quite some impact on the speed of the laptop. I cannot do the things advertised on the product page without hurting the laptop (assuming 100C is dangerous for a processor). What can I do?

A:is there someway to attacth an eGPU to my 17-j186nr?

You can do it by removing the bottom plate and putting the eGPU in the wireless slot but I strongly advise against it. The wireless slot is the equivalent of a pci-e x1 slot on a desktop motherboard. Video cards are designed to run through an x8 or x16 port so running an eGPU through the wireless port is like trying to cram the traffic on an 8 lane interstate highway into a dirt road. Some of the cars will get through but it is not an ideal situation and very likely to damage your laptop. These devices are pure hokum and merely proof of concept. Gullible people are buying them, however.

Greetings! I've recently purchased the V17 Nitro Black from Costco: http://www.costco.com/Acer-V17-Nitro-Laptop---Intel-Core-i7---4GB-Graphics---4k-Ultra-HD.product.100... I couldn't find the model number listed there and it's still in the mail so that is the link to the product, I'm sure the technicians here are familiar with it. I've read that, because it is a Black Edition that is equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 port it should fully support universal eGPU solutions designed to work with Thunderbolt 3. However, I have also read that eGPU over Thunderbolt 3 may (in general) require special BIOS support that is not necessarily inherent in a laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 port. As a result, I'm asking any knowledgeable members here as well as the technicians: does this laptop support an eGPU connection? I'm not trying to ask some kind of legally binding "gotcha" question - I understand that these are muddy waters and that Acer may not have conducted in-house testing on this. All I'm asking is what are the best guesses as to whether or not this would work based on what we currently know? This laptop is especially interesting from an eGPU perspective because it is one of the few 17" 4k screens (which would benefit greatly from an eGPU) that has a Thunderbolt 3 port and is affordable - so I know I can't be the only one wondering this. The laptop's only real weaknesses are its optical drive (premium laptops still coming out with DVD-RW ... I've recently been looking into buying an eGPU Enclosure such as the AKiTiO Node or the Razer Core. I've updated all the firmware and now I am running Thunderbolt Software Version 16.1.47.275. The Node and Core both specify that the computer needs to both have Thunderbolt 3 (which I have) and be compatible with external graphics. What does this mean? I have Thunderbolt 3, so wouldn't it be theoretically possible to run external graphics provided the firmware was up to date?
So in summary, my main question is this: Will/can the Dell XPS 13 9350 be able to use eGPU enclosures over Thunderbolt 3 now (or in the future if there is firmware updates being planned)?

Hi,

I'm going to buy a new netbook/small laptop because my Acer Aspire One A150 is becoming really slow, and I can't play any decent game with the single-core Atom N270 and the GMA 945 iGPU.

I need a netbook which will run games like CoD Black Ops II smoothly. I don't care about screen resolution (it could be very low, for example 1024x600), I only need a small netbook or notebook capable of run 3D modern games.

Any suggestion?
If it's possible, It would be fine for me to run an eGPU (external graphics card) with a netbook...

A:new gaming netbook (with eGPU) suggestions

Combining an underpowered notebook with a decent external GPU will only yield in poor performance, not to mention the bottleneck caused by a slower notebook CPU. That would be a total waste of performance and money, keep in mind that the GPU isn't the sole factor to be considered in gaming. Moreover I doubt that you'll ever find a small notebook with an unoccupied mPCIe slot.

Honestly speaking you'll be better off with a midrange laptop sporting dedicated graphics from AMD or Nvidia. Some of those Dell Inspiron 15 series feature the 7730/7670M which is good enough if you're looking into casual gaming at decent levels.

My new VN7-792G arrived a few days ago and is a very nice machine indeed. The only odd thing is that the Fan seems to be quite loud when is starts going. I had an XPS machine before this so I am used to noisy fans, but this is quite high pitched and sounds almost as if it's imbalanced and reminds me of fans in old machines that begin to whine towards the end of their life. Oddly, the noise decreases if I lift one (or both) corners beside the hinges even slightly. I've also tried it on different surfaces in case it was a vibration issue between the laptop and the table it was on, but no success. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is this normal?

A:Acer VN7 792G Fan noise

I think I had a very similar issue on VN7 792G, a noise like whistling. I was about to return the product but I think I fixed it. You probably won't like the solution. One of the below solved my fan noise issue (I don't know which) 1- Opened the case and investigate anything that might vibrate due to fan. First I saw that Acer forgot one of the screw of the mainboard so I placed a new one and screwed motherboard firmly no prevent any vibration. Also close to larger fan plastic casing of the (vibrating) fan was touching to the (stationary) case.  I put a soft electric band in between. 2- I put a little machine oil to both fans. This part is tricky, you need to know where to put (check online), also you will need an oil with small sized needle heads. It possible to access fans after removing keyboard. I suggest not turn upside down for sometime if you decide to put oil. best,

Hello. I have a lot of issues with my Acer VN7-792G for a long time.First time I received the laptop, I had several issues with the Nvidia drivers while playing games, the GPU would overheat and freeze the laptop completely, along with a very unpleasant noise. It does that even on Very Low settings. I could finally find the answer to my issue when someone on Nvidia's forum told me to never update Nvidia drivers on laptops. (I was always updating to the latest driver through GeForce Experience)I followed his advice and got back to the driver provided by the manufacturer's website (which is 359.xx), since then no issue occured, I could play games on High/Ultra 120fps without freezing/crashing. I reinstalled Windows recently through the ISO provided by Microsoft's website. I disabled Windows Update to update the drivers, and I installed all the drivers provided by Acer's website for my computer, using my serial number. But after few minutes of playing, I still experience freeze/crash, and by that I mean the laptop completely freezes and the only thing I can do is to force shut down, holding power button for few seconds. The laptop is very hot at this point. Highest temp I could record for the GPU was around 70-80c before it freeze/crash.So I'm starting to think that the problem isn't from the Nvidia driver anymore, since the moment I reinstalled Windows 10 (64bits). Also, apart from the GPU really overheating, now the HDD seems to heat a lot too. Hi and wellcome, First update BIOS, if you don't have the latest updates. It is highly recommended since as you can see some update the VBIOS, which has a link with the video. Also it updates the management engine which monitors various parameters (eg temperature) on the notebook. Second be sure you have installed the intel management engine drivers from the acer drivers download page. XTU will not break the warranty, but be careful because it can cause system instability if you undevolt too much. Since you have a 792G, which is bigger than any 59XG notebooks I don't think you should have any issues with thermal throttling. So I would not set the CPU to 99%. It would limit the system performance.

When I click View --> Show hidden devices it shows the audio drivers which means they are disabled somehow, I think? Anyhoo, I've updated the problematic driver and hoped that this solved the issue but to no avail. I'm afraid to uninstall the driver because it's under System Devices and not under Sound, video and game controllers categories. I am starting to think it might be an hardware issue, but I seriously hope not. Perhaps you have some ideas what I could try to fix this?

How can i replace the hdd for a ssd in my Aspire VN7-792G?

A:replace hdd for ssd in aspire VN7-792G

Hi,You need to familiarise with disassembly procedure by watching videos, you need to decide which type of SSD you actually want to install, you have the option of replacing the current HDD with 2.5" normal SSD or M.2 SATA SSD.Now, you need to back up your current drive image to another external hard drive, and create a recovery disk using a program like Macrium reflect or similar program. Then you need to install the SSD, go to BIOS and make the dvd/USB as the first boot, connect the external hard drive, insert the DVD/USB recovery disk, reboot. Now, you can recover the image you backed up earlier to the new SSD.If you need more clarification, please post your question.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhqm2yg_aiI&t=466shttp://www.macrium.com/help/v5/How_to/Rescue/Create_a_Standard_Windows_PE_Rescue_Environment.htmhttp://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50074.aspx

Windows 10 has been updated as well as the BIOS and chipset but it will not see the 960 EVO ssdd.I have a Windows 10 install on an 850 EVO SSD and the drive still doesn't show up.  I haven't upgraded my personal computer in sometime but this BIOS is extremely limited, basically has options for boot order and Legacy/UEFI only.  Is there anyway to unlock this w/o having to mod it? There's lots of cross talk on the forums as to whether it's a SATA or NVME capable M.2 slot on this laptop.  I've spent a good deal of time on this and would really like for it to work.  Thanks in advance.
