Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

Q: Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

I possess a tecra A10 complete with Windows Vista Business installed (and backed up to an image file using Easeus Todo backup

However I also have access to a Tecra M10 which came with no operating system, although the COA sticker (product key) is likewise for a windows Vista Business.

My question is: would my Windows Vista Business back up from the A10 work on the M10 (ie would it load onto the M10 hard drive and then work properly

If anyone can advise on this matter I would be appreciative please

Best wishes

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

At first I must say that Toshiba recovery image is created for each notebook model separately and it is 100% created to work on specific model. Why?
Every notebook model has different hardware platform and all drivers, tools and utilities for certain model are part of recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally speaking if both models have identical hardware platform (hardware parts) it can be used.

Where can i downlaod this Disk. Can you help me please? Please send me a Link for Download the Toshiba Diagnostic disk or the Image from that.

Thanks.

A:Need Diagnostic Disk for my Tecra S4

Hello

As far as I know such diagnostic tools are not offered for us, usual notebook users but only for service providers only. That is the reason why it cannot be downloaded.
You are senior technical supporter so I?m 100% sure that you know very well how all this works.

All you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help. Maybe they can help you with this issue.

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Tecra R10

I want to change my disk for one SSD disk but i don't no how to open the computer. Please, can you tell me if there are some videos in youtube to explain how to do that?

Thank you.

A:Tecra R10 - Change to SDD internal disk

Hey,

Friend of me has Tecra R10 too but it?s not easy to exchange the HDD because you have to remove a lot of parts, like keyboard, Base Assy and a lot of screws. If you exchange the HDD on this notebook you should know what you do because it?s a tricky procedure and you should have experience with notebook disassembling.

If you don?t know how to do it you should contact a notebook technician for help. The guys can help you exchange the drive and there you can order a new HDD or SSD too. :)

Here is list of service partners that can help you:

Dear All,

I have a Tecra A9 51G with 160 GB hard disk. Is it possible to replace the existing hard disk with a new hard disk of higher capacity like 500GB or more.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

A:Tecra A9 51G Hard disk Upgrade.

Yes you should be able to install a 320 or 500GB with no problem. I imagine a 750GB should also be fine, but I wouldn't try installing a 1TB just in case there is a Chipset/BIOS sector addressing limitation.

My son is using a Tecra 780 DVD with windows NT loaded.
He cannot get a file transfered from his desktop to his laptop to continue his homework. He keeps getting an error message when he trys the external floppy drive. It reads: trouble accessing drive A....retry or cancel. We cant get it to work.....

SO, he decided to try his small mp3 disk player. He plugs it into the UBS port on the desktop and it becomes drive G. He copied the files onto this little thing and then plugged it into the Tecra Laptop..

Nothing happens. No drivers appear and no g drive is on the control panel.

Any suggestions?
I dont see the drive on the laptop.
I dont know if we need to load anything onto the laptop?
I dont know anything about hardware profiles on the NT platforms?

Help....

Hi folks,

I have scoured Google, and this is a common problem with SATA drives.
There is an easy fix to simply change Bios to IDE, then install XP and change back after.

Problem is....the ACPI Bios V1.5 does not have any options to make that change, nor to change to Compatibilty Mode (which also fixes the problem.....apparently.

I have downloaded ACPI BIOS V2, but the catch is it won't work from DOS - only Windows.
So I'm stuck in a no-win loop!!!

Without Windows, I can't change the BIOS- without the BIOS change - no hard drive seen.....<sigh>

Anyone know of a DOS version? Or some other way???
Before I go completely crazy???

Oh, have tried also installing Win98, even Win 95 to then upgrade - but nothing works.
Except Ubuntu - but I sadly need Windows to be compatible with my Desktop machine.

Thanking you......

A:Tecra M9 - no hard disk when installing XP

Hi

From my experience you cannot use compatibility mode, install WXP and switch again to AHCI mode.
F you want to have full HDD performance you should not use compatibility mode. What you must do is to load SATA driver before WXP installation starts. More about that you can read on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=38

Check it out.

Hi,
I've got a Toshiba Tecra S1. In the last 2 years the hard disk has failed (bearings) 4 times. The laptop is just out of warranty so I bought a 40Gb Seagate (deciding the Toshiba disks are doubtful). I used the "product recovery" Cds to re-install the OS etc on the new seagate. Everything went fine until the end. After the new os had been installed a message comes up "Remove all disks and press any key". I did this the screen blanks, up comes the Toshiba splash screen, it clears, then nothing! just a cursor flashing in the top left. This sort of procedure at boot up suggests a self test failure, does any know if Toshiba laptops will only work with Toshiba disks.
I checked the disk by connecting to anoth PC using a usb adapter and it looks fine, all the OS seems installed, all the right directory structure. Obviously there is no fault with the disk or the Toshiba laptop (as the product recovery CDs managed to access the new disk to install the OS). I checked the BIOS and loaded "default" to be sure. The Bios can see the new disk. I'm lost for a solution, can anyone help?

A:Replacing a hard disk in a Toshiba Tecra S1

Check that disk using e.g. Partition Magic. You probably did not set the first partition 'active' , so the PC does not know that there is a bootable HD in it.

I am trying to rebuild a Tecra M3 Model PTM30A-1DD002 for a friend. I have installed Windows XP Professional but each time I try to install a service pack it seems to hang.

I have tried SP1 & SP3 and each time it starts off gets about a minute in and then just sits and does nothing. I left the machine on for a couple of hours and it just doesn't do anything. On SP1 it says it is "backing up files" and SP3 says "Checking Product Code".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Dear forum
The above says it all really.

I see the two look similar, but one is smaller. Are these two models different in other ways please.
Ian

A:Difference between Tecra A10 and Tecra M10

Of course the both notebooks are different.
There are different Tecra A10 models and there are different Tecra M10 units.

For example:
Tecra *A10-13B* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2,26 GHz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset.

Tecra *A10-1D2* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80Ghz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset

You can find details about different discontinued notebook models here:
http://www.toshiba.eu/discontinued-products/
Then you can compare all the hardware parts.

I turned on my Toshiba Tecra R840-109 and everything looks like the factory settings have been restored, but I still have my files on the Hard Disk Drive in the Users folder (where the system also has built a temporary user which I am logged onto now, I suppose).

At opening, the computer asked me to do things you do when you get a new computer (e.g. agree to the user licence, install browsers, enroll fingerprints if relevant etc). Also, it showed an error, the HDD/SDD Alert saying ''Unable to get disk information, can not use the alert feature.''

Is there a way to fix this, i.e. to apply the previous (original) user?

One obvious solution would probably be to restore the system, but I do not have a back-up set up (which I will fix as soon as this issue will be resolved). Tried restarting, nothing changed.

Information about the laptop: http://www.toshiba.co.il/en/disconti...ecra-r840-109/

Any help appreciated!

A:Tecra R840-109 - HDD Alert - Unable to get disk information

Hi

To be honest described situation sounds pretty confused and not logic for me.
If you don't have recovery media (DVD or USB) create it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool.
After doing this use this bootable media and reinstall recovery image so you will have “factory settings” again. After clean OS installation it is not possible to have old data saved on the HDD, especially not on partition C.
Fact is that before recovery installation starts whole HDD will be deleted and formatted.

Sorry if I have misunderstood you. If you have some concrete and clear question feel free to ask.

is there any solution to get the new bios installed on my tecra 8000 without any floppy drive ?

A:BIOS Update for Tecra 8000 without Floppy Disk

I have checked Toshiba BIOS download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp and TRAD BIOS version is offered. This old Tecra is maybe 10 years old and at this time Toshiba has offered traditional BIOS update only.

Win versions are offered later with newer Tecra 9000/9100.
Sorry.

The Tecra M2 has been running fine, its a good little machine but running out of space.
I've been trying to install a new HDD 160GB (Seagate) was 60GB (Hitachi).
I've used the recovery disk on the new HDD, it formats the disk, sets up XP Professional, gets me registered with Microsoft OK but when the laptop wants to run Windows it bombs out giving me a blue screen (dumping memory etc).
When the laptop re-starts, in "Safe Mode" the message pops up that the "Installation was incomplete. Re-install setup"
First question:-
Is there a way of "fixing" the installation with the recovery disk?
Another Windows CD XP disk - seems unable to repair the installation.

So
Second question:-
I've tried doing a complete re-installation from scratch, with the Windows CD - no problem. But then I need to install the drivers - got them off the Toshiba Support OK and I see the recovery disk has a whole lot of "Hotfix's" but the forum thread of 10 June 2006 "Driver needed after installing Windows on TecraM2, gives the order of installation - no problem except I cannot locate "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Step by Step Interactive" anywhere - I've looked all over for it?

A:Tecra M2 recovery disk installs but comes up with incomplete installation

Hi Ollienz,

I?m a little bit confused about your posting. Do you want to install Windows from Toshiba recovery disk or normal Microsoft disk? What do you want to do now?

Theoretically the recovery disk could be scratched so the installation can?t be finished successfully so in your case I would try a Microsoft Windows XP disk.

I have done a Google search for this Microsoft Windows XP Professional Step by Step Interactive and I found it?s a security update for the interactive training but it doesn?t seem to be important for driver installation:

Hello,

I'm a network and system builder so i think i know what i'm doing... although maybe one of you could help me solve this issue
I'f contacted Toshiba Netherlands but the just don't know what to do... so you are my last hope;)

the story:

I'f bought a new Tecra S11 came with BIOS version 1.6 (very old i think)
removed the original HDD and used a SSD instead.
Installed a fresh WIndows 7 Profecional and tried to get everythink working....

Now fist of all I was unable to update the bios to version 1.7/2.0/2.2 (latest)

Toshiba Netherlands told me I needed to use the default Toshiba provided Image
and that Toshiba didn?t support BIOS update?s on non-preinstalled-OS's..... (which is really strange in my opinion!)

So I replaced my SSD with the original HDD (with original Image) and updated the bios... today to version 2.20 (latest)

Now when I install my SSD with my own Windows 7 installation (non-Toshiba install) I?m unable to install almost any
of the Toshiba provided Utilities...
For example the Eco utilities tells me after starting the setup "Unsupported BIOS"
I?ve installed ALL Toshiba's utils and patches which ware passible... but half of it isn?t!!!

bottom-line, is there a way to "force" the ECO and all other utilities that aren't working in a NON-Toshiba installation?

Any help would be appreciated! I just can?t believe / except that there is now way to get a fresh windows install working the proper way

A:Tecra S11 Fresh Install

Have you considered cloning your old disk and replicating on the ssd?
I have a clean install and remember having difficulties with launching the bios software, and also the graphic drivers.

I solved it by downloading all the newest drivers from Toshiba support page, and installing them (especially chipset driver - that helped for the gfx drivers). I havent checked what fixed the bios updater, but now it responds nomally. I havent flashed it yet, though, as I don't know what id does, and apparently - nobody does.

As for utilities, I only have the BT, fingerprint util. and function buttons (value added, without zooming), along with toshiba power saver.

All of the rest isn't really necessary in my opinion, so my advice would be to go without or finding better replacements.

Unfortunately such kind of info cannot be found on official Toshiba pages and there is no some official document about such upgrades so you can hope that someone with the same machine can post own experiences.

As far as I know this notebook model was delivered with max 250 GB HDD. Of course you can upgrade it with other HDD. I think up to 500 GB should not be problematic.
Let?s see what other people will write about that.

One more thing: which OS do you want to install on this new HDD? Original recovery image?

Do you use the Toshiba preinstalled Windows OS? or did you install your own system?

As far as I know the Win XP SP3 contains the Microsoft UAA bus driver high defection audio driver and some patches and fixes.

If you use this system, I recommend installing all patches and service packs firstly.
Then you should uninstall the sound driver and after new reboot install the driver which you could download from the Toshiba page.

You are still using this oldie? Surely it?s or it was a nice notebook but maybe it?s time for something faster? ;)

Back to your question;
On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the Tecra 9100 drivers.
You have to search in Archive (in product type choose Archive instead of notebook)

There you will find two sound drivers for Win XP.
It?s Yamaha sound driver version
- 5.12.01.3141
- 6.13.10.2152

I had a similar problem with my TECRA S3.
I attempted to update the HDD on the computer.
It was equipped w/a 100gb 5400rpm SATA drive.
I wanted to install a 320gb 7200rpm SATA drive.
I didn't think that there would be an issue since they were both SATA drives.
I purchased a CLONING DRIVE hardware (which came with software).
The new drive was a WD drive & the cloning package worked as advertised.
When I removed the 100gb & replaced it with the 320gb drive I received the fatal BSOD.
I did have the latest BIOS on the computer, as shown on the TOSHIBA download website.
I also had (or thought) I had the latest RAID drivers as shown on the TOSHIBA download website.
After some additional testing, I determined that the problem was not with the BIOS.
It appeared that the BIOS recognized the drive. I had loaded a different image on the new drive
& was able to try a SAFE MODE run. When I saw that it was reading the new drive & crashing later,
I was convinced that it was some kind of WINDOWS driver.
What I later found was that TOSHIBA listed an updated RAID driver list for VISTA.
I downloaded & opened up that file.
I found a FILE in the VISTA list that was the same name as the RAID driver for the WINDOWSXP.
In performing a FC on the two files, I could tell that they were different.
I re-cloned the new drive. After it was done, I overwrote the file on the CLONED drive. I used the VISTA
driver to the windowsXP directory.
After this was done, I... Read more

I just went out and bought a laptop for a good deal. It's a Toshiba Tecra 8000 jthat runs on a Pentium II. My question is how do i install a 128 MB RAM chip into the laptop. I opened the back and I see slot A and slot B. Am I doing this right? I'd appriciate some help.

thanks!

A:How do i install a 128 MB RAM chip into a Toshiba Tecra 8000?

I must have added 128mb of ram to mine, because I now have 192mb.

I bought the ram chip from Toshiba.

It was pretty simple to install, I belive I just put the 128 chip in the second slot.

I just got myself a Kingston V series 64gb SSD drive, but I'm unable to have it detected by windows installers.
After looking around, I found that drives in Tecra S3 have to be on "1RAID 0" and not JBOD to enable windows to
be installed on it. (unless you use the recovery CD, which I don't have right now, even if I wanted to use it)

I also found that the "string" needed to get the BIOS to change it when you get to "execute creation"
is 1,2,3,4, [enter].

But here's the catch : +the BIOS ignores the string.... +
I type the string, 1234, [enter], and it cancels my desired change as if I said NO and set it back to JBOD.
(if I don't type the right string, it just get out of it but stays 1raid0 and "execute creation" is still there)
I tried on one of my other drives, and it worked fine, but for some reason this drive doesn't seem to want me to do it.

I tried the drive on USB (works fine) and the BIOS sees it for what it is, so the drive is working well (from my testing)

Any Ideas on what to do now would really be appreciated, I'm running out of ideas on what I didn't do correctly
Thanks!

A:Toshiba Tecra S3 - New SSD stuck on JBOD, can't install windows on it

Hi

> I just got myself a Kingston V series 64gb SSD drive, but I'm unable to have it detected by windows installers

Did you include the RAID driver into Windows before you have tried to install OS again?
On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the RAID driver which should be included while Windows installation setup.

Regarding the BIOS RAID change;
I?m not quite sure but it could be possible that you cannot change the RAID option due to the SSD drive.
If other HDDs work properly and if the RAID can be changed using an common HDD then the issue is related to the new SSD drive.

Maybe you need to update the firmware on the SSD drive? check it.

I have a Tecra A10-1HL and I want to install Intel HAXM to speed up my android emulator.

I see on bios menu that I can enable only VT-d (and in this scenario, HAXM installation fails (with missing vt-x message).

I see that my bios release is the last (3.00).

The question is:
I cannot install HAXM in my machine due to missing VT-x option in Bios menu?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Your Tecra was equipped with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5870 CPU

Tecra S11 nVidia vs RealTek sound driver - which one do I install?

I've installed nVidia and realtek sound driver also. I've got BSOD when I plug in 3.5mm jack headphone. When I want to listen music with my Bluetooth stereo headset I also got BSOD.

I reinstalled nvidia and realtek sound drivers. My Tecra S11 is very slow since I installed latest nvidia video driver from nvidia website.

Windows 7 very very slow since then. Firefox start up time sometimes 20-30sec

Hello,

I have a Tecra Z40-A-11L and I'm using it to develop Android applications, using both GNU/Linux and Windows.

When running AndroidStudio in Ubuntu, I have no problems. When I use it in Win7, I can't get the virtualization to work.

When I try to use an x86 emulator in the AndroidStudio IDE, I get and error saying that I need to install HAXM support and enable VT-x. In the BIOS the VT-x is enabled. I've tried selecting the options of VT-d + VT-x and VT-x only, and in both cases it still doesn't work. I've tried installing HAXM separately using the Intel installer directly and I get a similar error:

"This computer meets the requirements for HAXM, but Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) is not turned on. HAXM cannot be installed until VT-x is enabled."

As I say, VT-x is enabled in the BIOS, I manage to get virtualization in GNU/Linux, but for some reason Win7 doesn't seem to be able to recognize it..
Does anyone have a similar problem? Is there something I can do to solve this?

Thanks,
Javier

A:Tecra Z40-A-11L - Can't install Intel HAXM - VT-x not recognized in Win7

The CPU supports definitely the VT-X and you said also that this feature is already enabled in BIOS.

Therefore I recommend you to check this:
Turn the whole Hyper-V "Feature" off.
Open "Control Panel -> "Programs" -> "Turn Windows features on or off"
(under "Programs and Features") and locate "Hyper-V"
Now uncheck and reboot the notebook.

Feedback appreciated.

Hi all,

I have got a Tecra 9100 and as many other people I've got problems after installing SP2.

I tried to install the sound card by using the driver downloaded from the toshiba support page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?service=EU&FID=TRO0000001b59

but I get a windows pop up saying that the file yacxg.sys is missing.
After that the installation is ended and the sound card is not installed.

Is there anyone that can help me?

Thanks,
Joazinho

A:Tecra 9100: Trying to install updadet driver for Yamaha AC XG soundcard

The point is that the driver listed in the Toshiba FAQ is for the SP1 and NOT for the SP2

I think you should google a little bit and should search if you would find an sound driver update which is compatible with the SP2

Yamaha already provides the fixed driver.

yacxg.sys 6.13.10.2152 with software synthesizer

yacxgc.sys 6.13.10.3152 without software synthesizer

Hi,

I'm trying one of this popular caddy's that allows me to put a second hard drive in the optical slot bay, I use a Sata to Sata adapter, so there is not really an adapter besides connecting properly:

[http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Enclosures&type_sub =2.5%20Enclosure&model=AK-OA2SSA-BK]

My problem is with Toshiba BIOS that is expecting a ODD device in that Sata port and cames out with a "CD-ROM error", disabling the Sata port.

I have a workaround, if I start the PC, after BIOS post with anything in ODD bay, after starting Windows, I insert the second HDD in the ODD bay, go to "Windows Device Manager" do a "Check for hardware changes" and voil?, the second HDD is working fine, to me this proves a BIOS limitation.

Is there any help, a Beta BIOS or something else, I have the last BIOS 3.00 for this machine installed.

A:Tecra M10-17U use second HDD in the ODD bay

Please check this thread:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=39412

It seems that Tecra M10 does not support an select bay which would allow you to use an 2nd HDD instead of ODD.
As far as I know select bay is supported on Tecra M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, S1, S2

Hello,

do you know, if it possible to install a SSD Driver for my notebook?
And if yes, which manufacturer/brand you would recommand?

Thanks for tips in advance.

A:Can I use SSD for Tecra A8

Generally speaking it should not be a big problem to use an SSD instead of an common HDD.
The notebook supports the SATA interface and you have to use an 2.5? SATA SSD drive.
I cannot recommend any specific brand but in some very rare cases it could be possible that you will need to update the SSD firmware providing by an SSD manufacturer?

Hi. I have a 2007 Toshiba Tecra A9. I am not computer saavy so please excuse me. I have noticed what I am assuming is a fan on the left side of machine will not stop running lately and is hot and computer screen goes black. Took it to local computer person this weekend and paid extra for emergency fee. They cleaned machine out and blew out a lot of dust and cat hair. They found a Trojan - cleaned that up for extra. Today I came home to find fan running on full blast and hot. I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you.

After upgrading to win7 and having sometimes a bleu screen when starting up the following happened.

After once more blue screen the laptop does not startup at all.

The only thing happens , is that I see the upstartscreen (in touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA) and icons at the underside of the screen indicating the drives. Then nothing happens any more, it doe not start up.

I can by entering F12 in a new startup procedure change to startup via CD rom, but this also has no effect.

Also it is not possible to enter the bios (esc + F1).

The keyboard is functioning because, after a while every touch result is a short " beep" .

I have removed the battery for a while and tried again with no result.

Can I put my laptop by the trash ore is there a possibility to bring it to live again

Thanks in advance, Jos

A:Re: Tecra S5 does not boot at all

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer some exact diagnostic but somehow I feel BIOS is screwed up.
Disconnect AC adapter, remove battery and press power button for 20 seconds. After doing this connect AC power supply only and start your notebook again.

I don't have this notebook model and I?m not sure about entering BIOS but try also with F2.

I wonder whether anyone might be able to answer a question for me.

I have a nice Tecra R10-11B and it has been very good for quite a few years. It runs Win XP and does everything asked of it without a problem.

What I would like to find out, though, is whether it is possible to fit a quicker CPU. I have a suspicion that the installed cpu may be permanently fixed and is not replaceable but I would like to find out.

I had played with the idea of replacing the Intel P9400 Core Duo with something a bit new, to allow perhaps installing Win 7 and more memory. There is 3gb of ram installed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:CPU upgrade on Tecra R10

The CPU is socked and this means that the CPU is removable.
But the important fact is that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPU upgrade.
One of the main reasons is the BIOS which is mostly modified by notebook manufacturers.

But let?s start with some basic knowledge:
The CPU has to be supported by chipset and BIOS.

So let?s check what CPU would be supported by Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset which is part of the Tecra R10-11B
Here on this Intel Ark page you can find compatible CPUs
http://ark.intel.com/products/35505/Intel-82GS45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub#@compatibility

But even if the chipset would support new CPU, some compatibility problems may appear because of the BIOS.
However, the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs ( Montevina Penryn) were equipped in different R10 models, so probably other Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs would be supported.

By the way: the RAM could be upgraded up to 4GB RAM

Hi,

I would like do a multiboot XP / 98 on a TECRA A11.
Do you think it's possible.
Will I have some drivers dysfonction?

Thanks for answer !!

A:Tecra A11 - Win XP and Win 98 multiboot

Well, Win XP installation should not be a big problem because the Win XP drivers seem to be available on Toshiba European driver page.

But Win 98 might be a problem here since its not supported and the drivers are not available? you will need to search for such drivers at your hand and I think this might be a painful time? I doubt you will be able to get Win 98 drivers because this OS is really, really old.

I would recommend installing the Win 98 only using Virtual Machine (VM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine
or Virtual PC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Virtual_PC

This is very easy? running Win XP you can open virtual PC or VM and could start the Win 98

Hi. I've got a failing hard disk in my Tecra, the existing disk is a Fujitsu MHZ2120BH G1. In an ideal world I would swap this disk for a solid state but I'm wary having read of others' problems installing SSDs. Has anyone any experience of successfully (or otherwise!) of doing this. Alternatively, I'm quite content to stick with a HDD but I wonder whether I can increase the size of the disk from the existing 120Gb? I've got some vague memory of having read about a limit on the size this laptop will take. Thanks.

Of course you can do this. All you must do is to use “extended desktop” option.
