I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=127.0.0.1:8080;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.

I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1

I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/

Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.

The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

Hi All, Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the pop-up asking me to register my product. All my HP stuff is registered (and out of warranty) but day in-day out it returns to my screen even though I have clicked "Don't ask me again" on every occasion. I'm regarding it as an annoying little 'virus' now. Any deletion tips would be appreciated before I 'fall out' with HP! Regards,Justin

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with Windows XP (Service Pack 2 not downloaded yet).
I have uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2002 + updates and have installed Virus Scan 2004 ver. 8.0(boxed version cd).
I was not able to register this product. Or at least, I don't think I registered this product.
The product is running and I have asked for updates. It responds that it is current---no updates available; yet the Security Center screen indicates that there are updates available.
The Security Index is 3.2
the Antivirus Index is 4.6.
It indicates an old version of antivirus software was detected.
I do not have a personal firewall at this point.

Ok, Heres the deal. My computer was doing odd things with the Windows installer and I came to the conclusion that a component of the installer was missing. I decided to repair Windows XP used a new Windows XP instal disk that I had bought for my laptop. Now, my desktop already had a version of Windows XP on it, but when i was asked to reregister my computer during the repair process the product key for it would not work so I used the one that came with the new CD. Problem is, I cannot seem to use the CD's product key for my laptop anymore. I now have used 2 copies of Windows XP on this computer and need to find a way that I can instal Windows XP on my laptop (preferably without having to buy a new copy of Windows XP). Any help would be much appreciated.

I bought an MP3 player a few weeks back and registered online.

For the first time today I received a pop up saying "Gentle Reminder. Register your Creative products now to enjoy a host of benefits."

I've tried closing it with the corning cross and killing it in task manager, this doesn't work.

I've tried hitting OK and going through the registration process (it already recognises the details I'd already registered with). Once I complete registration it takes me back to the pop up.

I've tried looking at the EXE file in task manger and deleting it and it won't let me, even with user account control turned off. I don't want to uninstall the whole product as it took me long enough to get the product to work through Vista in the first place.

What can I do to get rid of it and what further info do you need from me please.

There is a run entry in the registry that is causing this. Post a HijackThis log and we will tell you how to stop it from running.

Download hijackthis here:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.

Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click Edit > Select All> Edit > Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
Paste the log in your next reply.

.... So I built my own computer begining with an ASUS motherboard and installed Windows XP Pro 64 which I bought off ebay... Sure, there were problems. Most things worked but I had a bunch of blue screens without any noticeable pattern or cause. It turns out that my Veloci Raptor hard drive was bad and sectors were being randomly destroyed through normal usage. I got the drive replaced and re-installed Windows XP Pro 64 again. Things were working good until I ran the ASUS System CD which updated a slew of drivers. Upon reboot, Windows tells me that my machine has encoutered substantial hardware modifications since registering and must be re-registered. I have 3 days to do so. I re-register immediately chosing the online method and get a response to the effect of "Our records show that the number of installations allowed uder this product key has been exceeded. Please contact customer service regarding how to acquire additional licenses." Of course the only thing customer service has for me is a way to purchase a new copy of the software or the priviledge of spending $59 to write a bloody email. Is this for real or is there an alternative I'm just not thinking of? I have overwhelming proof that everything is new and legit yet there's no one to tell or show it to without getting screwed in advance. I bought Windows 2000 and Office Suite six years ago. I now have installed it on my new computer. The Customer Registration window came up and I typed in my original Product Key (25 characters) but this was rejected as invalid. I've checked it carefully and there are no mistakes. I think maybe the following has occurred but I need some help.

1. There is another number called 'CD key' on a yellow seal which is not 'product key' and I cannot find it.

2. The Windows 2000 licence is for only one computer (My booklet states "For Distribution with a New PC Only" although I bought it independently through a dealer.

3. This edition of Word 2000 is out of date and I have to buy a complete new one.

As far as I can guess CD key = product key/certificate ot authenticity and there is no other number so why is it rejected as invalid. My other theory is that Windows 7 64 bit does not support this software.

Can anyone who's been involved in this kind of scenario advise or throw light on the matter? I'd like to use my Word 2000 because it is a familar working environment and I have lots of files I need for my work at school.

I was trying to register my Wacom tablet and when I got to the webpage where I enter my email address & name & address I got a clickjacking alert from noscript - specifically when I clicked the email box. When I clicked on the image in the alert box that is supposed to show you the hidden image it looked like it was showing me the top border of the page as the hidden image. Since I was just seeing another part of the web page already visible I figured this was most likely a false alert. I called Wacom anyway and asked.

I don't know enough about web page setup to know what could cause a false alert and I'm not sure what I would see if the alert was showing me a clickjack element. Would I see a Send button or a Donate button? From what I read on the noscript page it sounds like clickjacking would require going to an evil webpage and wouldn't happen due to a security breach at a legitimate site. Is that correct?

A:Click jacking alert [false] on product registration attempt

Now dont quote me on this, but I believe that click jacking is where a page has an invisible overlay like link across either the whole page or multiple ones across various points on the page. Most of the time, yes it is used for malware distribution, IE you click any area on the site then it opens a new page to a bad website, but it is also sometimes used for advertising, IE you click on a video and it opens a new site or an ad site. But that was most likely a false alert from no script. I'm guessing that wacom said nothing was wrong?

Hiya
This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

Note The following software programs include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000). Customers using these software programs should install the provided ISA Server 2000 security update.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

How to configure MS Proxy server to not allow every netwok user to access the internet.

A:NT4 proxy server

You can create a group called "Internet users" or something like that in User Manager for Domains. Add the users you want to allow to have internet access.
On your proxy server, in Internet Service Manager, click on the Winsock Proxy, go to the Permissions tab. In the Enable access control list, you need to add the internet group that you have created and remove any other people.
Any person who is trying that access the internet will have a box pop up asking for a password but it won't allow them in.

Have a look in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, it may also be able to help you.

Much as I can live without Incredimail and it's alleged Spyware, it's bloated E:Mails and it's inefficiencies, even after the company has been repeatedly informed that they are lacking in the most basic of Message Rules, my wife and kids love it !!!
In case you don't know, the Message Rules do not allow you to check if the E:Mail is addressed to you, and if it is not, then to leave it on the server, so I constantly get E:Mails forwarded to Outlook Express from my kids that are for me, but they 'accidentally' downloaded "a few days ago" ... yeah, and the rest !!! ... Oh, I should point out that this happens when you have multiple E:Mail addresses under a single useried ... i.e. [email protected], [email protected] & [email protected] ... Incredimail cannot differentiate between these and will download them all if somebody presses the Send & Receive button !!!

An obvious and presumably easy upgrade of their Message Rules would be the most obvious and easiest way around this, I've asked them numerous times but they certainly haven't taken my advice on board as there has been a recent new release with no changes to Message Rules !!!

So, eventually, to my workaround ... does anybody know of any (decent/cheap/free) software that will sit between my PC and the E:Mail programs and perform a similar service to Outlook Express's rules ?!? I have found a few programs that perport to act as servers, but they are very complicated to set up & I'm still no... Read more

Not sure if this is the right forum but I found a web site that I want to join as you have to join to enter it. But it comes up that I am using a proxy server and so it will not let me join. is there any way that I can fool it to allow me to join.

Thankyou in advance.

I have an infected machine that I have cleaned up. Everything is working fine, except for the fact that I have a proxy server that keeps coming back. After I uncheck it and close out, I can open Internet Options back up again and it is checked. I also tried removing it with HiJack This, but it keeps coming back. The machine is Windows 7 SP1 64-bit. Here's what I have ran:

RKill
TDSS Killer
MalwareBytes
Hitman Pro
Emsisoft Emergency Kit
ComboFix
SUPERAntiSpyware
RogueKiller
ADWCleaner
and many more

From what I've read, FRST fixes is for most people, but they need a fixlog, which I don't have. Is there anyway I can get one, and will this help me?

I am trying to use the proxy server settings to limit user access to the internet. Going to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings - I set the address to loopback 127.0.0.1 and in the advanced options enter a list of exceptions, which is where users are allowed to go. With one exception (Google) each site displays unformated text with no images and the message "Error on Page"

Any ideas? Thanks.

Many sites load images from an off-site location. Those would be blocked. Did you also use wildcards?

Hey there,

I am using Windowns XP, and I have discovered I have a proxy server, and I don't ever recall asking to have a proxy server, I have a single computer at home, no network. So the proxy server must be web-based, I sort of know what it is. But it's been interfering with trying to set up Mozilla (which I've given up on). I'd like to know how I disconnect the proxy server, or where the controls are.

open a browser, click on "tools/internet options" then the connections tab . look for "lan setting" near the bottom, and un-check the box that says "use a proxie server". that should do it for you. Leave the box checked ( or make sure it's checked) to "automatically detect settings"

I hope this will help you. Please let us know
