Solved: Atari River Raid on Computer

Q: Solved: Atari River Raid on Computer

In the 70's, my family and I enjoyed playing Atari on TV.

Fast forward to 2012. Here are the basics.

I have a WIndows XP laptop computer (7 years old). I do not know much about computers however.

I am feeling nostalgic and am WISHING I could once again play RIVER RAID on my computer. But I don't know where to even begin.

I just read about Stella downloads but don't know if it's safe. Some say they are free, or do you buy it?

Has Atari resurrected its games for computer? Specifically RIVER RAID, that's the only one I liked.

Also, what kind of joystick would I need that would work with the XP that is basic in nature, for a one-person player?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thank you in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Most of what you are asking (except for whether there is a PC update) would require the use of emulators. Since they are illegal because games are licensed to run only on their original machines (with some exceptions, I would imagine), we can't really give you much help in this area. But I'm sure that searching will allow you to make a decision about whether it is possible or feasible.

Many many years ago (decades) before most of you were even born, there was a game called River Raid on Atari which we hooked up to our TV at home.

I am wondering if there is such a version that I can play on my laptop?

Of course I would have to buy a joystick and would very much prefer the very simple, single calibered joysticks that we used to use (OLD BLUE) that will connect to my Windows XP.

Any opinions, or suggestions please?

These days, I am feeling very nostalgic (not to mention, old and weary), and I do miss those good old days where life was much simpler.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I believe I have the game downloaded on my XP.

PROBLEM is the joystick that I have and love which is 25 years old does not fit into my laptop USB port. It is called RAIDER PRO INTER ACT.

I do not think BestBuy carries the gizmo connector, so I can use the old joystick.

Where to buy please? Thank you.

I posted a 2nd question relating to playing Atari games for PC the other day but got no answers.

I would like to play Atari's RIVER RAID on my laptop and I have the download website for it.

However, I would like to know if anyone out there is actually being able to play Atari games on their laptops and if so, what kind of JOYSTICK to use? Prefer the simple ones like the one that we used to use for our Atari consoles a long time ago.

Thank you very much.

My friend called me about a machine that would not boot. I plugged it in and fan seemed to be not getting enough power and the machine was making this sick noise that sounded like an old Atari/commodore game from the mid 80's. 2 notes back and forth duh, dah, duh, dah. Well, at first I thought it was just a power supply. I put a new power supply in and things worked fine or so it seemed for about 2 minutes. Cpu fan seemed strong, got into bios ect. Then all of a sudden, it just quit, and started making that sound again. I know for a fact that the new power supply is good, and I could use some leads as to what next. Any and all ideas as to where I might go from here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My mum recently gave her computer to me since she got a netbook and thought that she wasn't getting enough use out of such a computer. An error message kept showing up when I powered on the computer, apparently this had been showing up for some time.
It was on the Intel Matrix Storage Manager before Windows started, one of the physical disks were listed in red. However, the computer was still in full working order, but I wanted to get rid of the screen that kept coming up, so in an attempt to fix it, I went into the Matrix Storage Manager's configuration utility and not knowing what it would do, reset the disk listed in red to Non-Raid.

Now ever since I've done that, I've seen nothing except the BIOS, all that comes up after the Matrix Storage Utility now is a device listing and it says at the bottom 'DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'. I inserted an OS disk and nothing would come up. Since then, the closest thing I've had to progress was by going into the BIOS settings and changing the hard disks SATA mode to 'IDE'.
After setting it to that, the Matrix Storage Utility doesn't show up, which I thought was a good sign at first, but then afterwards the same final screen shows up, but the message at the bottom had changed.

'Boot from CD:'

ASUS tech support said that I could add optical DVD/CD drives to my SATA connections on my mobo is that correct? The mobo manual does not indicate that I can so I don't know if I should believe the tech guy or not (unless the information is buried deeply and briefly in the manual - I sure can't find it in the manual). I have an ABIT AT7-MAX2 (VIA KT400-8235) computer with AMD Athlon XP 2.08Ghz running IE7 SP3. I just did a clean install a couple days ago. I only now noticed that my 2nd Hard Drive does not appear when I look at My Computer. However, if I use Search it will search in both my C: drive and also my E: drive (E: drive is the 2nd HD). I use the E: Drive for my pictures. So, I'm confused why the 2nd drive isn't seen on my OS.

When I look at the Device Manager there are two YELLOW question marks (?) under "Other Devices". These two line items are both RAID Controllers. Looking at the Details, these two (2) RAID Controllers (under Other Devices) are missing their drivers. I'm hoping this is easy to fix...

Is this why I can't see the E: Drive on my PC? Does anyone have any idea what drivers I need for them? I assume the drivers be on the ABIT CD, right? Should I try the ABIT CD and hope it's easy to download the drivers I need?

Here is what one of the RAID Controllers' ID says: PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_1400147B&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&8D
The other RAID Controller ID number is similar.

Thanks for any help.

I am so ignorant of computers that I didn't know I dont' have the correct graphics card until I tried to load the game (I'm not kidding). I would love to play Crysis but know that is out of reach. Money-wise, I'm not rich but I can afford most any of the cards but $300 (US) would probably be my limit.

Hey Guys,

I found an old Atari 2600 games emulator site here: Very cool! This link points to an old checkers game by Activision:

When you select "Game Reset" (F12 key), you'll see a flashing cross (the cursor). Move this diagonally only by holding two arrow keys at the same time; so up and left arrows at the same time to move that way. Then press Space to select your piece. Go from there.

Many years ago, back when I was in college, my roommate had an Atari 800 with a ton of cool games. One that I remember, which was quite fun, was a game where you flew a helicopter to collect buried treasures. The top portion of the screen was sky, the bottom was dirt, and the treasures were buried in the dirt. The helicopter could drop bombs straight down, left or right, or at a diagonal left or right, but could not fire up.

Some of the hazards included a plane flying across the top of the screen, which would drop dirt clods to fill up your holes. If a dirt clod hit you, you would get blown up. If the dirt clods blocked your exit, you couldn't get out.

Also, there were rocks making it difficult to get straight to the treaures, and water pockets, which if you blasted open accidently, would fill all the holes with water (using semi-realistic "pouring" rules)

Finally, as the levels progressed, there was more dirt, and less sky to work with. Oh, and you had to return to base to refuel occasionally. Anyway, has anyone heard of a current incarnation of such a game for the PC? or perhaps knows the name of it to help me find it?

Thanks!

First time posting ,

Situation: I have two hard drives : main drive: Seagate 500GB w/ windows xp and second drive: WD 1TB blank.

Without backing up the main drive (ops...), i went ahead and enabled RAID 0 on both drives and created a RAID volume (128KB strip / Size: 1TB (931.5GB)).
NOTE: the RAID volume size is only showing the exact space of the 1TB, excluding the 500GB drive.
After realizing that I needed to create a backup image of my main drive to use RAID with an existing drive, I'm left with the "Operating System Not Found" message.

Question: If I Delete RAID Volume (which is based on the size from the blank 1TB drive), will both drives become available as non-RAID disks and keep the original data on the 500GB main drive and be able to run windows again?

I'm using software RAID through Intel Matrix Storage Manager option ROM v5.6.2

I understood that "Resetting the drives to Non-Raid" will cause all data on the disk to be lost, so this isn't the approach that I'll be taking til I find a solution to backup my data.
However, from reading the "Delete RAID Volume" option, it listed Deleting a volume will destroy the volume data on the drive(s) and cause any member disks to become available as non-RAID disks, so knowing that the RAID Volume is blank, then maybe trying this will be the answer.

When using the Microsoft Recovery Console in (RAID mode attached w/ both drives) logically there isn't ... Read more

A:RAID issue - deleting RAID volume to restore non-RAID disks

sadly, there's no way to do what you want without an existing backup.

Look at it this way;
A disk has a container ~ the partition.
The partition as a structure ~ the filesystem (eg NTFS, FAT32, RAID).
We put our data into the structure.

When we create backups, we are getting only the data itself (unless you use an image program like Ghost or Acronis where you get all three).

Deleting the RAID will give back the two independent HDs, but also breaks the structure so that the data becomes in accessible.

Get the instruction manual and the latest firmware update (ver. 1.60) here: http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/hd/h100.aspx
You will probably have format and re-install all your tunes. Disconnecting while files are transferring is a big... OOPS!

Okay, all I want is for my windows 98 to recognized the second hard drive I just put on it so that I can copy some files to it.Windows won't assign it a drive letter so I can't even tell it is there. It's a Maxtor 40GB hard drive. This is a machine I'm giving to my boys so they don't fight over the one they already have. Please help me, the river is only a short walk away.

Which is going to be the last man standing? All great programs. iPhones, Blackberries and so forth are on the rise. It even does gaming. What does that mean for people with all these media players on their hard drives? It's portability now, not just laptops but these mobile gadgets most of all. Sure they are expensive but they work for people. People GET IT! And they are catching on.
One more point. Anyone have a Zune device? lol!

A:Zune Vs. WMP 12 Vs. J. River Vs. VLC

I have 2 zunes and will have a vista computer to support them. I suppose at some point MS will have to include zune and Ipod drivers if they want to sell any operating systems.

When I downloaded Google chrome on my brand new PC I think I picked up a virus.  I've removed Chrome, but Internet Explorer is no longer working.  It won't load pages.  Just a white screen at start up.  I hadn't put any antivirus software on the PC and still haven't, though I purchased some at Best Buy last night.  I reset windows to back to the day I received the computer (This last Tuesday), but the virus is still around.  Last night immediately after resetting windows, I started Internet Explorer and it appeared to be working briefly.  However, after a few seconds, this old Atari style graphic of a space craft flew across my screen shooting bullets towards the top of the page.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can do it. See this DR help link:

Windows 7 US Online Store

Quote:
Step 2 ? Download the ISO Image of Windows 7
Please obtain these links by contacting Digital River customer support. The Windows 7 ISO file is large (>2GB). Please verify that you have sufficient hard disk space to download this file and install Windows 7. Approx. 20GB will be enough for both operations.
Download the Windows 7 ISO image and save the file to a location you can remember. The download may take a considerable amount of time on slower internet connections.

Also being reported by Gizmodo.

Steve, what does this tell us?
On their side Op's still are complaining about download hangups,
Also the iso is only 3 gigs instead of 4 gigs.

Hi all,

What a nightmare!!!

I have just had an email from Digital River, that I will be getting a full refund for the Windows 7 upgrade within the next 30 days, for the problems caused. I haven't even emailed them to complain (yet!)

The email also states that if I ordered the backup cd's these would still be dispatched.

Happy days - sort of!

Thanks

J

Ok, I know some have cracked it, and others haven't, but I thought I would share this one with you.

I am running a MacBook Pro, and had Windows XP running under bootcamp. Downloaded from Digital River and had all the problems. Finally got it to boot, but wouldn't install due to unable to create folder.

Scrubbed bootcamp partition and tried using Parallels. So far so good, but not for long. Won't take my product key as I have the upgrade product 32bit, but at least it got that far.)

Now, reloading windows XP on bootcamp, and my XP disc has a scratch on it and can't be read

Ah well

Any help would be great.

Hi
im looking for trail ver of windows 7 but i found digital river servers down.
i lost cd key so i want use trail and reinstall it again every month
so any advice ?
thanks you

A:is there any alternative for digital river ?

There is no trial version of Win7, only a 30 day grace period before you must activate so you can decide if this is an install you want to keep. You should already own a license. If so then read carefully over the steps to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7. It discusses in Step 1 how to find replacement media.

I've purchased my copy of the student Windows 7 Professional 64 bit through the Digital River provider. The purchase went through, I got the download link but I did not receive a product key from them. My room mate also purchased the software and got an identical email to one I got except her had a key in it. Does anyone know of a direct way to contact Digital River Customer Support? Sorry if this is in the wrong thread wasn't sure where to put this :/

Ok, so I was finally able to get the main Expanded Setup file extracted.

But now I still have the 3 original files on my desktop... what do I do with them?

Also my expandedsetup file is this large:

Size: 3.01 GB (3,239,836,668 bytes)

Size on disk: 3.01 GB (3,241,648,128 bytes)

Contains: 874 files, 199 folders

But doesnt it need to be 3.02 or something? So did I download a bad version? Or do I have it all for 7 64?

In our household we have two students, and so ordered a copy of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium in both x64 and x86 versions - a total of 4 products from Digital River.

Having used their download manager to download these files, I now have 6 files: 4 .exe files (as expected) plus 2 files named setup1.box and setup2.box.

The .exe files are, however, only just over 70KB each, setup1.box is almost 3GB and setup2.box is 163KB.

Running the Home PRemium versions fails immeditaely, saying it can't find the required files. Running the Pro x64 .exe file starts to build a .iso file ("Unloading the box"), but then fails with an unspecified error.

Any ideas?

I've been following the above thread where a guy kept trying to download a Windows 7 iso from Digital River, and it was wrong size/'not an iso' etc. Even though I don't need any iso's myself, I thought I'd have a go at downloading one to see what the OP's problem was. Sure enough I had the same result - 2.49GB (not 3.09GB for x64). Twice in fact.

That was browser download, so I tried 2 separate download managers. Seemed fine at first, but both stopped at 99.9%. Curious . . .

I'm starting to wonder if Microsoft are playing the old 'poison torrent' game - record labels sometimes release bad torrents of music CDs into the wild and fans download them (illegally) but are disappointed when it's a fake. After a few more useless attempts to get the CD, the pirate gives up and buys the product (well that's the theory).

Pretty soon all computers on sale will be Windows 8, and a lot of folk will buy one but want to downgrade to W7. MS seem to be moving the goalposts on that scenario, but no probs - we can just get a W7 iso from Digital River. Or can we ???

Just like the 'poison torrents', after several failed W7 Digital River downloads I guess MS expect us all to give up and buy into W8 (and buy their video's + mp3's).

Anyhow, at least I haven't broken any EULA law - all the iso's I downloaded tonight weren't copies of W... Read more

A:Something wrong at Digital River ?

You can remove your tin foil hat - sort of.

I used Pale Moon to download the ISO mentioned in the thread and it was fine
(e.g. I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive and look around at the files...
...I could also build a virtual machine from it via VirtualBox.).

I also downloaded two other ISOs at the same time. One was fine, but X17-59465 was weird.
The last ISO in the screenshot above should be that same size as the first ISO.
X17-59465.iso looked fine.
I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive.
I could even start the OS install process, but it barfed:

Notice the size being reported during the download.
That download was the 3rd try.
The completed download below it was 2nd try.

And these two download attempts were via another ISP:

Both of those downloads were via IE10. Both claimed that the download was interrupted. I looked at the file size of the ".partial" file before hitting the Resume button. The ".partial" file was the same exact file size (2.619...) shown in the first image of this post. Pressing Resume started the download all over again - but the "resumed" download made no claim of an interruption. Each second try just gave me the 2.619... file.

How odd.

I'm hoping someone here can help. I'm very new to Raid, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance here. I'm using an HP pavilion p6210Y with 2x 2TB, WD Caviar Green's trying to set up a raid 1 array. I've reached the Nvidia raid array setup utility, and it appears I have successfully loaded the raid drivers.
After doing this, I inserted my Windows 7 x64 home premium install disc, and it sat on "Detecting storage devices...". After a few minutes of this, I was presented with an Error stating "No disks reserved for raid use, raid disabled." Then shortly after, switches to a message stating: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."
I'm now unable to reach the Nvidia Raid setup, and unable to load the windows disc.

I'm certain the CD drive is good, as it works fine in another computer.
BIOS:
Mediashield ROM BIOS 10.0.0.28 RPT
Copyright (C) 2009 NVIDIA Corp.
If someone would know what to do from here, please share your knowledge.
Thanks,
Chris

A:no disks reserved for raid use Raid disabled - Raid 1

Do you have Windows on the drive now? How did you load the drivers? Drivers won't function without an operating system, so I'm a little confused about exactly what you did.

How did you run the setup utility? Does your machine support hardware RAID or are you using software RAID? Are there RAID settings in BIOS?
