Slow Computer on start up & Internet explorer runng very slow.

Q: Slow Computer on start up & Internet explorer runng very slow.

Im looking for some assistance on these two matters.

Firstly my Computer is taking along time to load up at start, I have only uploaded 1 new program in the last month or so and that is PPmate ( a Live steaming program).

I have also noticed that on loading up my internet explorer is very slow to load up my home page.

Preferred Solution: Slow Computer on start up & Internet explorer runng very slow.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all,

My wife's Acer has been running slow with any internet applications, while all other applications run fine. In addition, when the netbook is connected to the network, all other connected computers run slowly on the internet as well...to the point where simple websites like google will time out (all computers use firefox by the way). I've run scans through Norton Security Suite and Spybot, but there wasn't anything detected. I just ran Hijackthis and here's the log:

Hi,

Im at work rigth now and we have two computers. The one Im typing on works just fine. The second one has a little problem... Internet Explorer takes about 5 minutes to startup the main page WHATEVER the main page is. Once the first page is loaded, it works just fine, highspeed as it should. I started the day with IE 6 and updated it to version 7 thinking it might help but nope, no change. The computer has been scanned with Norton antivirus Corporate edition, up to date as well as Ad-aware SE plus. The Cookies, history and all have been cleared and I defragged.. In case that helps...
So whats going on? Im thinking it might be corrupted files in the IE program itself that cant be fixed by just updating IE, then i might need the windows XP cd to fix it?

What else could it be?

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. Hello folks.

I'm running WinXP Home.

My Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, and My Computer all take a tremendously LONG time to open up a new window. Once open, they run smoothly and fast.

I have isolated what I believe is PART of the problem - ccApp.exe is running on my system. ccApp, as many of you know, I'm sure, is a part of NAV that runs on startup to make sure that all the installed NAV pieces load correctly (or, at least, that's what I understand from Symantec's web site). This includes AutoProtect, Norton Anti-spams pop-up blocking, etc.

When I disable ccApp, IE and WE run like a champ - fast, quick, zippy, etc. Very nice. When I reenable ccApp, things bog down again. Now, I'm thinking that it really isn't ccApp's problem, as I know other people with it running on their machine, but rather, that it is something that ccApp is starting that is the culprit.

I don't really want to disable ccApp, because when I do, my Norton Anti-Spam's pop-up blocking no longer works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Ryan

P.S. (I've attached a HJT log in case anyone wants to look at it.)

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

I have a dell desktop and currently running windows 7. Also I am using AVG for protection. For some reason I cannot run regularer internet explorer (9) i can only use the 64 bit version. When I try to use the regularer version everytime I try to open it, i get a window that says it has stopped working and must close, it will do this nonstop and the only way it will go away is when I close it using task manager. I have tried the microsoft fix for this and it worked for half of a day, and now its back to doing the same thing again. On top of that the computer is very slow and I get this white screen whenever I move the screen, however I think that is a hardware issue. Attached you will find my logs. Hey everyone. So my computer has been acting strange for a few of days now. I know about a week ago it got infected with Spy Sheriff (tricky little program) but I'm pretty sure I got it off. And I'm running Spybot right now and it's about half done and it hasn't found anything. As for the symptoms,1) I've been trying since I got infected with Spy Sheriff to run disk cleanup. And I know in the forum it said it could take minutes to hours but I ran it all last night (a total of approx. 10 hours I think) and it still doesn't go anywhere.2) My computer has been "freezing" alot. I'll only have two Internet programs open and they will both freeze, so I do the ctrl-alt-dlt thing and my CPU usage has gone from 3% to a 100% even though nothing has changed. And it's normally when I have something simple open like Yahoo and Google.3) The last time my computer "froze" I shut down the Internet window that wasn't responding and eventually the CPU usage went back down and I could use the other window again. But now I can't open another window of Internet Explorer at all. (which is why I'm doing this now. I'm going to try to restart my computer but it would be pretty tragic if I.E didn't open at all after that)I'm thinking more strange stuff has happened but now for the life of me I cant remember. Any ideas anyone? Oh and Im operating on Windows 2000 Professional.

Hi,

I don't see anything suspicious here... When having problems like this, in most cases Security software is the cause. On some systems, certain Security applications just won't work properly. I see you are having Zonealarm and I have seen this issue with Zonealarm quite a lot.
Uninstall Zonealarm and let me know if that solved the problem.

Hello,

Recently, When I open IE 8, the browser doesn't open my homepage but acts like it is trying to load it. Then it suddenly stops trying. At this point, when I try to open anything at all, that application will also not open. Then after a while, about 3-4 minutes, the computer screen just goes black and I have to shut the comp down. I have run hijackthis and haven't found anything. Also, after reinstalling IE, it did work. Then, I had a windows update and the IE started slow crashing my computer again. Any thoughts on this would be wonderful.

I've just set up a new computer in the office (actually it's about 18 months old but been sitting in its box all this time). We have a small office network (peer to peer) which was no problem to set up, the computer connects directly to the internet over this network. Each computer has its own IP address and are connected through an ethernet switch. The ADSL router is connected to the same ethernet switch. We have no problems with this set up on any other of the computers in the office, however the new machine (running IE 6 on XP Pro) takes an age to download pages (up to five minutes per page), other sofware is fine. Can anyone help with this. I've attached a Hijack this report in case this helps.

A:Internet Explorer running very slow on new computer

The first thing I would do is upgrade the XP PC to IE8 and see if there is any improvement. Don't go up to IE9 as that is not compatible with WinXP.

The Hijackthis log looks fine.

My computer has been slow lately. It lags and I figure I have spyware and such on it. I have ZeroAds, The Ultimate Troubleshooter, Norton System Works, and Norton Antivirus. It's a little quicker since I installed and updated these, but still not much better. I wasn't sure if these programs got rid of spyware or anything or if I should try some different software. Also, I wasn't sure if having all these programs to try and clean up my computer would counteract eachother and slow down my computer. Also, the time it takes to boot up my computer is a lot longer than it ever has been. Finally, my Internet Explorer doesn't work right. If I use AOL, the internet usually works right, but when I try Internet Explorer (because I don't have AOL at school), I get tons of popups even though I have ZeroAds and then Explorer just freezes and eventually I have to CTRL ALT DELETE it. If anyone knows how to help me it'd be greatly appreciated.

A:Slow XP, slow startup, and problems with Internet Explorer

Use Ad Aware (http://www.ad-aware.com) and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html). Make sure you update them with their update feature.

I recently updated to INternet Explorer 7 but even before that my internet browser is running really slow. Whenever I type anything within the browser, or if I am typing in another program while internet explorer is on, the letters will take a while before showing up. Sometimes the homepage will freeze and I have to end the program and start it again just to repeat the process again and again. Everything else in my computer is running fast except when I click on the web browser and the computer slows down.
This is my work computer by the way. OS is XP, processor pentium4 2.39 ghz, 512mb ram, 40gb hard drive. 24 gb free.

thanks

Hello southflgirl,We need to create a Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) Log Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from one of the links below and save to your Desktop. Primary Mirror Secondary Mirror DSS will do the following: 1. Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista. 2. Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives. 3. Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review. 4. Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using Deckard's System Scanner. 1. Close all applications and windows. 2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts. 3. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious. 4. When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad: main.txt <-- Will be maximized extra.txt <-- Will be minimized 5. If not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder. 6. Please copy (<Control>+C) and paste (<Control>+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply. Hello,

I am having a few problems with my maching that I want to get resolved.

Firstly, I keep getting a some IE7 popups when I am logged on to firefox. These popups are usually related to whatever page I'm on in fireforx (i.e. if I'm on nfl.com on firefox, the IE7 pop-up will be something about sports). I don't use internet explorer and recently started using Chrome to combat this problem but Firefox is my preferred browser.

Second, my Firefox keeps freezing when I do try to use it and it has gotten progressively worse over the past week. Previously, I could use firefox despite the IE7 pup-ups but now firefox usually freezes or hangs for a few minutes. It seems to be working now as I am using Firefox to post this message.

Thanks for any help you can lend me.

Hello,
Im hoping I can Please find some help. My Vaio has become slower and slower and now is Terrible. Separate from start up and processing speeds, Internet Explorer (IE 8) super slow (on any Internet connection). It gets the Not Responding message occasionally or just plain takes a very long time. I,ll even click on a window several times with nothing and then five windows will open with the same thing.

I have a ton of things on startup and services tabs from the msconfig window. So I'm sure I can clean that up but not sure exactly what I need to keep. Also not sure that is the real problem. Very seriously considering trying to reload vista but I have to find all my softwaRe discs. Not sure I have everything. I have a good bit of software on here. I use mcafee anti virus. Not opposed to changing that but would rather find the real problem bacause computer ran a couple of years fine with mcafee.

Please help. Thank you!!!

Hey,

Out of the blue, my computer started getting slow. Sometimes its ok, and then it will be on the verge of freezing.. then get itself back together. I realized, when I start up, it takes FOREVER. It also shows this screen I have never seen before. Its completely black, and has a line of grey rectangles from side to side... and slowly loads across. When it is finally finished(10-15 minutes) it will slowly start up in regular fashion. Any ideas? I will attach a hijack this in my next post.

Thanks Much.

Hello,

I was here a few months ago, with my computer/firefox running slow.

I've had malwarebytes anti malware  running ever since.
A couple weeks ago the computer has literally come to grinding halt.
When I start the computer it takes a couple of minutes to go from the "Starting Windows" screen to the Windows login screen.
From there it take another 3-5 minutes to boot up. I have Soluto installed and I watch all the programs that are being started during boot up and how much extra time has elapsed for everything to load.

I've run spybot search and destroy,  Avast, eset, and SuperAntispyware and nothing has been detected.
All programs have a large lag time from when i dbl click the icons to start them.  They run slow, I type something and there is a delay before I see it on the screen. Also I'm always seeing the "not responding" message.

Here is the speccy link:

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/MzcuTBZF3HP1gYFSP85FccO

I also have the hijackthis and minitoolbox report.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

A:Not Again! Slow PC, Slow Start Up, Slow Outside of Internet

Hello justanotherguy,

You continue to get reinfected because you are still running unpatched XP.

IMPORTANT!:
Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2 (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system.) At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it?s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If you're having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.

A:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide. I am running Windows XP - SP3. The system has slowed a lot and Internet Explorer keeps opening multiple windows on it's own. I receive a message at startup on a black screen " Invalid boot.ini" It continues to say it is booting from and it flashes off the screen before I can read it. I ran DDS and have included the two files it produced. When I attempt to run Gmer my system, or the program itself, locks up. After clicking on the GMER.exe file, it loads and then automatically begins a scan of /system then becomes "unresponsive". Once I got the blue screen after running GMER, and it read "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down. A couple of other times GMER was "Not Responding". Once again thanks in advance for your assistance. Hello,Your are dealing with several nasty infections..* Download: HostsXpertUnzip hoster to an own folder, eg C:\HostsXpert Start HostsExpert.exe, click 'Restore Original Hosts' and click OK. Then, * Download Combofix to your desktop.Doubleclick combofix.exeFollow the prompts.Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang. When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt. Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
