I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When my T570 restarts, sometimes it stacks at the logo screen like forever. I have to press the power button to kill the power off then it can be Stared normally. Another problem: The X key on my keyboard doesn?t work well, I have to press hard to input letter X. Any suggestions of this? Do I need to replace the whole keyboard?  I am kind of disappointed on Lenovo quality control, how a big company let this small issue happen...

I have been using T410 for 6 years and finally replaced it with a T570. I love the screen, but really hate the new keyboard. Seriously, I'm having physical pain in my right wrist now.  While I can't change the layout of the keyboard, I do notice that they keyboard has a "lighter" feel when typing. My wife has a T460 and the keyboard is far superior, in my opinion. I did a little bit Googling, and it seems, according to a Laptop Mag review, the T570 keyboard has a shorter travel (1.6mm, compared with 2mm on T470) and a lighter required actuation force (60 gram, compared to 70 gram on T470). I'm writing my dissertation on this machine, and I'm seriously thinking about getting an external keyboard. This keyboard is not comfortable at all. Who buys a T series for an inferior keyboard?  Why the difference, Lenovo? Is there a FRU keyboard that offers a 2mm travel and >60g required actuation force?

Hi,
Can someone please tell me how to stop my keyboard from autochoosing the quotation mark (") instead of the apostrophe (') when I am typing. I am a touch typist and would prefer that it give me an apostrophe when I press the key without using the shift button, and a quotation mark only when I press the shift key. This is how all of my other symbol keys on the keyboard work, so I'm not really sure why this one is not doing the same. Most of the time I end up with the wrong symbol in my typing and it is very frustrating!
Thanks Jen.

Hi guys, So I pull out my laptop this morning and it seems like the panel is busted.  There is a sliver at the top that seems to be "live", but the rest is almost like burned in stretch.  Every now and then if I'm wiggling the screen back and forth it will "refresh" and be clear for a second (but not "live", ie pointer movement does not show) and fades back into the stretch. I have it hooked up via hdmi to my tv, where I am attempting to get service bridge to work, but I figured it'd be worth posting here too.  I assume since my tv image is clear, it is not a software issue and is either the backlight drivers (if such exist) or the panel itself.  I still have 72 days of warranty, is this something that would be covered?  And if so/not, how much am I looking at for repair?

I would like some help with this. My father often buys broken laptops and then buys the parts to fix them, kind of like his own little repair shop. Then he sells them. Unfortunately, he's having more problems with his latest buy then he'd preffer.

The basic thing is this - When he moves his mouse, odd little marks pop up around the screen, sometimes following the trail of the mouse. Does anyone know what could cause this and how to fix it?

A:Marks on the screen...

Also, it will only operate on 'Safe Mode'. We think it's probably the video card, but I'd prefer someone's agreement on that. And we'd appreciate any ideas on how to stop it from happening.

For months now, there are these marks on my HD Monitor screen. It looks like the outer layer being...peeled. It's fine and I don't notice it when I look at it at an angle, but straight forward, they're small, but noticeable. I attached a 2-in-1 image from my camera on these things from my screen. Please take a look. Thank you.

A:My HD Monitor: what are these marks on my screen?

What kind of HD monitor do you have? Do you use any screen savers? Two possible answers come to mind, one is that it could be some pixels that have burnt out or gone bad. The other is an image burn in from leaving the monitor on for long periods of time. Other than that I have no other answers for you.

If the monitor is still under warranty, you could call and probably get it exchanged.

Approximately a year and a half ago I purchased a Daytek LCD moniter and it was working well until recently when black shadow marks began to appear. A:Black marks on screen.

Hi and welcome to TSG?

If they are definitely dead pixels then that is a problem with the screen itself, the only way to fix it (that I know of) is to replace the screen. This can be a bit fiddly and it can be relatively easy, screens can also be fairly inexpensive.

What is the exact make and model of the HP laptop?

A small black mark appeared about a year ago (annoyingly it would have just been in warranty, but never quite got around to reporting it). Since then the mark has spread and new ones have appeared. It has never been dropped, bashed or exposed to water. It's only ever been gently wiped with a dry screen cloth thing. The laptop is stored in a padded bag when not in use and not exposed to any severe temperatures. What has caused it and can it be fixed?

Hey Gang,

I purchased an Hitachi 46" UXB7/K Projection TV from a repair shop. It works fine but I noticed it has two small red marks close to the middle of the screen. The two marks are comet shaped, with a head and tail, and both head and tail seem to go in the same direction. One is about 3mm in length, the other is about 6mm. About 1-2 mm in width on each mark.

When I turn the TV off I can't see them. When I brush my fingernail against them I can't feel them. I wonder if they are what's called "burn marks" inside the CRT and just ignore them, or if they are something like pen or crayon marks that I can get rid of.

They seem to be red in color. When the screen switches to something darker than red they disappear. However sometimes they appear to be purple when the color of the screen changes. They are also semi-transparent.

I have tried using eyeglass cleaner and no joy. I'm afraid of using something more powerful because I have heard of people using Windex and getting some serious permanent streaks on their screens. Also the manual says not to use heavy chemicals.

The TV screen itself appears to be plastic and made with grooves in it. I can slide my fingernail through the grooves.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks,
HULK!

A:Small Red Marks on CRT Projection Screen

Could be small imperfection or little bubble in the CRT glass right in front of the phosphor surface. Looks a bit like a burnt pixel that you might see on LCD/DLP units.

I have one of these in my red CRT, so that I see a very small greenish dot on the screen when I project an all white screen. It's so small that only *I* notice it from time to time when viewing DVD's - and that's because I'm anal and know what to look for.

I thought it was a spec of dust on the CRT glass surface, but removing the lens told me otherwise... It's hard to tell without removing the lens. Since I use a home theater PC, to pinpoint where it was exactly on the tube surface I had place my mouse pointer right next to it by looking at the screen, the I removed the lens and looked right at the CRT surface. There was a TINY little imperfection in the glass surface. I never would have seen by just removing the lens and looking at that glass CRT surface.

I just recently noticed this. At first I thought this was just a sticker residue since I have brought my Laptop for warranty service due to a defective hard-drive. There are permanent smudge marks that looks like sticky residue that came from whatever was placed on the screen. Unfortunately, I can't argue this with the Service Center since I discovered this 2 weeks after getting my device. I tried cleaning the screen with different things, Alcohol Swabs with a few drops of water as to dillute the Isoprophyl Alcohol concentration. I even tried a facial tissue partially dampened with WD-40 as this is known to remove any sticky residues on any hard-materials. But both methods fail. I have read and seen some guides on YouTube which involves toothpaste, white-eraser, but are both risky as it might make the situation worse. What do I have to do to remove them without resorting to replacing the Screen itself? Is the glass panel that covers the LED Screen replaceable, similar to Gorilla Glass on top of most touchscreens? And what other methods can you recommend? Im running out of options. My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 310-15ikb with the following specs: 1. 15.6 FHD LED Screen2. 8Gb DDR4 RAM3. 1Tb 2.5HDD4. NVIDIA 920MX Graphics Card Thank you.

My husbands ASUS touch screen laptop-keyboards are not working. I know it has windows 8. Core i3 intel inside. Like I said it is a touchscreen and neither the hardware keyboard or touch screen keyboard will do any thing (well it is like the computer understands i am doing something with the keyboard, but not typing. Ex. i will type and the curser line will do nothing but suddenly go like an italicized line. The mouse works and the touch screen works but I cannot type anything. I have wiggled the keys thinking maybe something is stuck but no help. also I have restored it to its factory settings thinking maybe he accidentally set some keyboard sleep command or something. We are both not smart at this, and again it is not my computer, he has it for work, so who knows what he did to it. But yeah, after restore it still wouldn't work and now I am stuck at the registration "getting started" windows and I cannot bypass them....or don't know how to without being about to type. The last it worked he said he cleaned it with pressurized air, so I don't know if that was too much for the keys...if he actually blew dirt into it, or what strange thing could have happened...but the fact that both touch screen and actual keyboard aren't working I am left stumped. I hope I gave enough information on the computer. It has that surface windows...he normally just uses the desk top mode. Ok thank you for any advice.

I am currently running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on my PC (new computer). I have found that in the last couple of months my keyboard has ceased working properly. By this I mean, most of my special characters no longer work properly... Everything from quotes to question marks, exclamation marks etc. are no longer working or I get completely foreign characters. AFter considerable investigation I have determined what is actually happening is that the OS is not recognizing my actual keyboard and is defaulting to the On Screen Keyboard (OSK). When looking at my device manager, it shows an ... HID Keyboard device and an HID compliant Mouse (I am actually using a Dell KM714). My keyboard and mouse are wireless. I have tried uninstalling both, working thru safe mode and uninstalling, I have tried re-installing the correct drivers, on several occasions and in several different ways but all to no avail. The keyboard was even swapped out and tried on a 2nd computer...it works on the 2nd computer. I have also tried installing a completely different wired keyboard on the malfunctioning computer with the same negative results. Existing restore points have the same issue and consequently none work. I have tried searching for an updated driver but it tells me the best driver is already installed and I have searched the internet for other suggestions all to no avail. It is clear to me that it simply will not accept any other keyboard or mouse driver. I have also tried disabling the OS... Read more

Hi folks

I've had success on this forum before and I'm hoping someone with more knowledge of IT than me can suggest a workaround/solution to an issue I currently have with a Windows 7 (Home Premium) laptop:

This is an old laptop that I only use from time to time, but it still has a number of files and photos on it that I don't have saved elsewhere.  Last time I used the laptop, it was acting as if the Ctrl key was being pressed every 2-3 seconds which made the keyboard difficult to use (because it triggered shortcuts as I tried to type: Ctrl + O, Ctrl + S etc.).  Because I don't use the laptop as my main machine, I decided that I'd uninstall the keyboard driver from within the Control Panel and just use the on-screen keyboard going forward.

Following this, I powered the machine on a couple of days ago and panicked when I discovered that I couldn't get the Ease of Access dialog box to display on the login screen to allow me to enable the on-screen keyboard.  It doesn't produce any kind of error – it simply does nothing when the button, located in the left-hand corner, is clicked.

At this point I was still hopeful that I could get around the issue by connecting a standard USB keyboard, but this is also completely unresponsive (although it does appear to be getting power from the laptop because the Caps Lock indicator light is lit).  I've tried a few alternatives: connecting the keyboard before powering up, during the start u... If you are just interested in recovering your data to save elsewhere you could purchase an external enclosure for about $8.00 at Newegg, remove the HDD from the laptop and install it in the external enclosure.  You can then attach it to another computer via a USB cable (which comes with the enclosure) and access your data to recover what you want.
