Windows 10 Pro Update 1803, Error 0xc1900101

Q: Windows 10 Pro Update 1803, Error 0xc1900101

In April 2018 Windows 10 Pro tried to install the functional update 1803 on my Lenovo T460 with no luck. Error 0xc1900101. In the settings I delayed the functional updates for 365 days. Since May 2019 Windows tries to make this update again with the same Error 0xc1900101. Windows downloads the update, installs it and after the error restores the old windows version. After 10 minutes this procedure starts again, and so on. For now, I simply disabled the windows update service in order to be able to use my computer as it is. Is there any solution to this annoying problem with the update 1803 for Lenovo T460?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Dell XPS 18 portable all-in-one machine that came with Windows 8, then I updated it to Windows 8.1 without any problems. It caught a nasty virus and I had to restore it to factory settings, which leaves me back at Windows 8.

I have tried multiple times to install the Windows 8.1 update through the Microsoft Store but keep getting Error Code 0xC1900101-0x40017. I have tried the following but get the same result;

Ran all of Windows Updates that would come upVerified that all drivers were up to date. Note: my video driver is NOT a Nvidia but an Intel. I've seen posts stating that this driver needs to be updated in order to fix the problem.Ran Selective Start Up

I don't know what else to do at this point because I have not been able to find anything online related to my problem. Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

FYI: Antivirus running is Avast!

A:Windows 8.1 Update Error 0xC1900101-0x40017 on Dell XPS 18

Hi, many people with your problem blame Avast for preventing Windows 8.1 installation - "Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017" - Microsoft Community. You can try to uninstall Avast and run the Windows 8.1 upgrade.

I receive a similar error again on our HP Pavilion Notebooks with AMD CPU when updating to Windows 10 Creator update as last time when updating to Windows 10. Our office has a few of the 17-G133cl notebook computers and all of them display the same error message: We couldn't install Windows 10 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. Which is similar to the error displayed during the initial Windows 10 update except that the error shown was 0x1900101 - 0x20000. Back then a BIOS update that became available that fixed the issue. We check for a new BIOS, but all notebooks have the latest BIOS already installed v. F.41 from 9/19/2016. All other systems including other none HP AMD computers upgraded just fine. Any ideas what could cause this issue with that type of system?

Windows 10 1511 will not update to 1607 by any method. Updates always complete to 100% then revert. Computer is a Dell Vostro 1720.

Background: The computer never appeared to update automatically, but there was never any error code. I tried to use the Windows 10 upgrade assistant. The upgrade would go through download and install to 100% but then restart back to version 1511 with no error message. Finally, I downloaded the 1607 iso, extracted it to my hard disk, and installed from there. Again the update went to 100% and then reverted back to 1511, but this time it gave the error message 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation."

I have found several threads about this error, and it seems most likely that there is a driver conflict of some kind. I have looked at the setuperr.log from $WINDOWS.~BT/Sources/Panther/ directory but I do not see what is causing the error. Can anyone help with guidance on this?

Hey,

I've tried to install the Win 8.1 Update via the Windows Store and got the 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 several times after the PC restarted at the ending of the update.

I know that several users solved this with disabling drivers, so I did some suggestions I've found.

1. Disabling AV (Kaspersky)

2. Disabling LAN Controllers

3. Uninstalling DAEMON Tools, TuneUp

4.

--> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

--> sfc /scannow

--> wsreset.exe

5. Trying to repair Windows Update itself via "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab"

6. Disabling AIDA

7. Disabling all components from my ASUS motherboard

some other things I can't remember...

For your information, I don't want to install Windows 8.1 from scratch, as I have too many programs and I never had problems with installing an OS for this system (Win7, Win8).

Thanks for the help

Hi, this is my first post so I apologize in advance for any naivete.

Right, so I've been using Windows 10 home without (much) issue for months now, and I decided to do the anniversary upgrade. All is well until it gets to ~75% at which point I blue screen with error

0xC1900101-0x4000D - The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

This started me off on a long and frustrating journey over the last three days desperately trying everything I could find online to fix the issue, but I'm at the point of giving up, so I figured maybe some kind soul would aid me online.

Thing's I've tried thus far (that I can remember - it's been a lot):
Doing the anniversary upgrade from windows updateDoing the anniversary upgrade via the windows upgrade assistantDoing the anniversary upgrade via ISODoing the anniversary upgrade via ISO from bootable USBReinstalling (not fresh) Windows 10, which yields bsod

0xC1900101-0x2000C - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation

Ran chkdsk, which fixed a couple corrupt files, but didn't solve the problemRan sfc, which reported no errorsUpdating every driver I could (using DriverMax to identify out of date drivers, but not to install them)Ran driver verifier with all options but low resources simulation on all non-microsoft drivers, which causes a bsod before it gets to login

Previously, I'd gone through a terrible tribulation trying to get my two HP computers from the initial RTM build 10240 to version 1607 Anniversary Update. Spent hours/days trying to troubleshoot it. The only thing that eventually worked was to download a specific ISO file, for version 1511 build 10586.679. I did try updating to 1607 in the next step, but that failed... and I gave up.

Fast forward a couple months, 1607 got pushed to one of my computers successfully. However, the other one ended up failing.

There were many posts about this issue back in the earlier days of people trying to update from RTM 10240. Deja-vu. However, nothing seems to work. I tried downloading the 1607 ISO file and running it... which resulted in the error above after about 1.5 hours. Next, I used the Media Creation Tool to try getting 1607 installed... ran into the same error again.

I did leave the notify Microsoft option in place, so whatever errors were made ended up forwarded to Microsoft. But I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix this... or if I'll just have to wait. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

Upgrading a Windows 8.1 installation and it stuck at getting devices ready at 2%. No BSOD. Has to be specific to 8.1 as I have already installed 10 on a clean partition with no issues on this machine. All drivers up to date. Did try removing Avast. No wireless devices attached. Not really bothered but an upgrade would save a few hours. Tried it twice and it sticks in the same place "Getting devices ready 2%" A reboot restores previous OS.
There is a lot written about this error applying to Windows 8 and wireless devices in laptops....this is a huge desktop machine.

There was a time when Bluetooth devices caused problems. If you have any, you might try disabling them in the Bios.

I have not done an install over 8.1. The one time I tried, it said it could not with Media Center installed, so I stopped.

Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.

The funny thing is that a few weeks ago I already updated to windows 8.1 but because of a faulty driver and not being able to boot into safe mode I had to renew my windows and downgrade to windows 8.0. But now I can't seem to update to windows 8.1 anymore. I installed all the windows updates even the optional ones. So I did a factory reset and uninstalled everything that didn't seemed necessary for windows so the update would go smoother. I found a toshiba page with a tutorial to how to update to 8.1 and it told me to uninstall the following:

Genesys Logic
Intel PROSet
Intel Wireless Display
Realtek-audio driver
TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor
Realtek WLAN driver
Realtek Bluetooth Filter driver

and on another page it told me to uninstall anything related with toshiba so I did all that and these are programs I currently have:

I also tried with a clean boot but still no change. My graphics driver atm is version 8.9 while the most recent released version is 13.12 but toshiba only release update 12.1 for windows 8.1 and I did try installing that but it just got me into a endless boot loop.

Hello everybody! I hope all is well wherever you are!

I am having an issue with the latest, major windows 10 update.

When I originally tried to download the thing I lost WiFi connection very briefly. (I know school boy error using WiFi while updating)

Now when I try to update it stops at 80% and comes up with the message 'We cant install updates because other updates are in progress.' Before this it came up with ERROR 0xc1900107.

No other updates are running (as far as I can tell) I also ran system file checker which came back fine.

I finally downloaded the update assistant but it doesn't work that way either.

Any help would be really appreciated!

There is not a graphics driver for that version of Win 10, or any version of Win 10.  Your Intel processor / graphics processor is not supported by Intel for Win 10, is several generations earlier than Win 10 is supported (Ivy Bridge.)  One option is to install a graphics card that will have Win 10 driver.  Since your system has PCIe 1.1, you should install a card that has PCIe 2.0, and not the current 3.0 (which can have compatibility issues with 1.1.)

I have multiple Lenovo laptops in the family. I recently noticed a Z580 had not had any OS updates since December 2017. So I fiddled with it some (it has been running Windows 10 for a couple of years without issue) and upgraded to Win10 1803. This was a huge mistake as I was unaware that the Z580 has hardware components not compatible with Win 10... even though it's been running Win10 for years. After the upgrade to 1803, the PC boots to a blue screenn where it wants me to choose the system language, etc. IE, it has totally lost the operating system and it can't find anything to roll back to in recovery. I was perfectly happy with Win 8.1 and only upgraded to Win10 figuring it was an inevitable upgrade. I plan to replace the HDD with a SSD and believe I can get the data from the HDD. But I"m stumped as to what OS I should put back on the Z580, since it came preinstalled. Is the Windows key embedded in the ROM? I don't have a Windows key for this 5 year old laptop and don't recall seeing one when we bought it. Any suggestions?

I have a brand new XPS 13, 9343 model with i7 processor and 512GB SSD. I am still within the 14 day cooling off period, and I'm now seriously considering returning it. I have never experienced such a load of nonsense trying to install any other piece of software.
So far, and after many attempts, I've been totally unable to upgrade to Windows 10. The very first thing I did was install all available Windows updates for 8.1 (there were 79 of them), and immediately after that I began the Win10 install saga. Nothing else has been done to the laptop - no dodgy software or USB devices (other than the boot USB where necessary). It is in a clean state.
- After downloading through Windows Update, the installation procedure is INCREDIBLY slow (eg it takes 36 HOURS to reach 42% completion - and at this point it hits the error message). What on earth can it be doing??
- I also tried creating a bootable USB through the media creation tool. If I boot from this USB drive and perform a "clean" install, this works perfectly - it takes about 8 minutes in total (which emphasises how ridiculous the 36 hours is). However, because it is a clean install and not an "upgrade", I end up with a non-activated version of Windows 10 and I get prompted to pay £99.99, which I have no intention of doing. I paid for the laptop on the understanding it would get a FREE upgrade to Win10!

Hi, I have a clean install of Windows 10 where I am not able to install the latest Windows 1803 update. During the update process after some reboots Windows restores to earlier restore point. Afterwards I get error 0x80070002.  I have tried several times with the same error. Also tried the windows update repair tool, but no change. All drivers is up to date according to the Lenovo support driver download page.  Anyone else having problems with the 1803 update?  I have a Thinkpad X1 5th gen. PC. Model nummer 20HRS1MU00 Regards,Stian

Why i can't upgrade my Windows 10? I know the answer to my question. Drivers. Why have you stopped to support this laptop from 2016? Why don't you release updates? I need to upgrade to the new version of Windows. Maybe there are some ways.Error code: 0x80240034.When the update is installed, at the last stage the update is canceled and the old version is rolled back.

Windows Update has tried a number of times to update to 1803. Each time it gets to about 42% then blue screen and rollback. I have tried DISM, SFC, Windows Update Troubleshooter, and disabling various drivers. Any suggestions? Thanks Tim

Hi,

I restore my laptop at an earlier date because I was having some various issues with the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4284835). I just saw yesterday that it was ready for downloading but I'd like to block it until there's another update without issues. I'd like to know how I can do that..

Thanks for your help,

Serge

Today I updated Windows 10 to version 1803. After the update, my bluetooth was not available anymore (not even listed in the device manager). I've checked the solution with the bluetooth service but that didn't solve it for me. After that, I did a fectory reset which didn't help either. The latest drivers are installed. How can I get back my bluetooth?

Hi,

Yesterday evening, I've shut down my computer and it started to install updates but didn't finish the installation. This morning I start my computer and noticed that my computer still had some updates to install so I tried to do it again with the HP support assistant but it stopped again before preparing action list. So I did some research about this update on the web and found some information on this link :

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-version/42d672a5-9988-4327-a5fc-b4cf9a47768a

It seems that this update has some serious issues so now I don't know what to do... Does anybody know what is going on with his new update and if I should install it and download it directly from Microsoft website?...

Thanks for your help.

Serge

Attaching a copy of the system updates and my computer information. Several different error codes that come up.

After upgrading Windows 10 to the April 2018 Update (Windows version 1803), Windows Hello is no longer available on my Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th Generation ultrabook, and drivers for the Synaptics WBD (SGX enabled) biometric fingerprint reader show as failing to load in Device Manager.  This is despite registry settings, group policies, and a PIN being set up to enable biometric scanning (the fingerprint scanner worked previously). Is anyone able to assist to enable the Windows Hello fingerprint scanner under Windows 10 version 1803? Thank you.

Trying to update to Windows 10 1803, get a blue screen (when I think it's just about done with the update) and a message DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG, and then it reverts to previous version of Windows. Drivers have been updated. Anyone know how to resolve?

If you Yoga is not listed as tested for compatiblity with 1803 by Lenovo, you may not be able to upgrade until a solution is found.

Windows 10 auto updated to Version 1803 on my Ideapad Yoga 13.  Since then I have no wi-fi connectivity.  I have tried the following. I have the Realtek chipset.  Realtek RTL723AU Wireless LAN 802.11a USB network driver.  Driver Version 1027.4.630.2015 Tried updating the driver but I get the message that this is the latest driver.  However, the date on this driver is from 2015 so I am suspicious. Moving to three different wireless networks results in the same problem.  All other computers and devices on this network are functioning properly. If I run Windows Network Diagnostics I eventually get the error message "Wi-fi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Tried "netsh winsock reset" and then "netsh int ip reset" from Windows PowerShell running as Admin and then rebooting.  Does not fix. Tried releasing and renewing IP addresses but got errors message "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* X while it has its media disconnected" and well as Media State........Media disconnected. I've set the IP address manually and that didn't work. Any more ideas to try? Thanks!
