I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a laptop with movies that I would like to watch on my television. My TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-46S2000. It has a VGA slot in the back of the TV and the TV's maximum resolution is 1080i.

After I connect the VGA cable from the laptop to the television, what do I do? I dont see anything.

-Thanks in advance

A:use my tv to watch movies from my laptop...

on the laptop you need to send the signal to the VGA port
to do that usually on laptops you need to press the FN key and then F4 {but the F key may be different - look for a figure like a TV}
each time you press it it will toggle between three setting {not necessarily in this order}
1) Laptop screen only
2) laptop and VGA Port
3) VGA port only

you will also need to link the sound - so a jack plug 2.5mm or 3.5mm depends on what your headphone socket on laptop is - to what ever audio inputs you have TV - probably Phono RCA - coloured red and white for left and right channel

I have an HP laptop with a Blue Ray in it. I watch videos from the laptop on our 1080i Toshiba DLP all the time using the HDMI output of the laptop, that works fine.

When I try watching a Blue Ray though it works for about 10 seconds then I get the following:
"The content is corrected. The content is not allowed to play in the current display mode."

I toggled the laptop's display so only the TV is running but still no luck.

How do I know if my TV is HDCP compliant?

Any ideas?

Hi mikell,

What do you mean you can't watch movies? What file format are you trying to watch? What program are you using as your 'mediaplayer'?

If you are trying to watch DVD movies (VOB MPEG) and are trying to use Windows Media Player, the fix is simple. Either download a codec pack for use with WMP (such as CCCP) or use an alternative player like VLC.

Second try at getting an answer.

Inserting a DVD movie now gives me this error: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital protection between your DVD drive, decoder, or video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

I've installed updates from nVidia 3 times. No luck. Have Windows set to automatically update. Tried downloading new updates, but it says there aren't any so I assume I am up-to-date on all updates.

I don't believe I have watched a DVD since my last Windows reinstall. Is it possible I still need to download some other driver(s)?

Don't know what info on my system you need, but I am using Windows XP Home on a Velocity Micro Gamer's Edge DualX system. Video card is a 256MB nVidia GeForce 7800GT. Have 2GB (2 x 1024) DDR400 of memory. Any other information you need to help?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am having a rather frustrating problem. After downloading full length feature movies from the net, I cannot open them. When I attempt to open them I get messages such as "video not available, cannot find decompressor." At first I thought it may be file specific, and that certain files were bad, but it has now happened with every full length video I try to play. I have the newest versions of quicktime and windows media player. What can I do? Are there other players I can download for free that will play avi., asf, or other video files?

Ok, the title is kind of misleading. What I have is a Dell Inspiron 8200 with Windows XP 2002, service pack 3, pentium 4 processor 1.70Ghz, 384 MB Ram. I also have VLC media player, realplayer, Windows Media Player, and WinDVD.

My laptop is connected to my flatscreen HDTV via VGA cable. (I think that's the one that plugs into most monitors, anyway...)

My flatscreen is a Toshiba Regza 37HL67S.

I have successfully configured the laptop so that it displays on the TV by reducing the resolution to 1024 x 768 and making the refresh rate 60 hz via the Display properties.

If you're still with me HERE'S MY PROBLEM: DVD'S and many movies that I play on my laptop to not display on my TV. I can see them just fine on the laptop screen but when I try to play them on the TV the screen either goes blank, or the window that is showing the movie goes black. There's something incompatible with my settings what the TV can display I just don't know what it is or where to look. I've consulted the owners manual for the television to no avail. I would appreciate any assistance anyone could offer. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

I won a prize as HP Pro tablet from my company last year. It's well designed for watching movie and playing games. However, I also found a problem while using this Windows OS tablet, which is that I can't put my iTunes movies on this tablet and watch them freely.  I was told that the movies are DRM protected.  By searching via Google, I know all iTunes movies are copy protected and can be watched via Apple products only.  But I also found a way to get rid of the DRM technology and make the iTunes movies DRM free.  A third party software - TunesKit iTunes DRM removal tool is needed.  I'm not sure if I can use it. I live in Canada. Maybe it would against the low by using this cool application. But I really need it, even it will cost me nearly $45.  Is anyone there who knowes a cheaper or a legal way to resolve this problem?

Ok, my apology for wanting to post this question, which may be considered inappropriate for many different reasons - and yes, an apology by itself does not imply it's okay (or not) to watch movies online, certainly not justify any crime I might have committed -.
But I am simply interested in/worried about cybersecurity.
Sony's cyberattack resulted in many of their movies inadvertently released online. One secruity expert was quoted saying (paraphrased here) - it's NOT SAFE to watch those movies online, as the longer you stay on one particular website, the more danger your computer will be exposed to.
To a computer user like me who knows nothing technical about security, this begs the question - is it unsafe to watch movies online despite the security setting (firewall, real-time anti-virus, real-time anti-malware etc). (dpes watching movies online mean running some video streaming program (in javascript?????) in the background of the internet browser ? ).
Any insight to share will be greatly appreciated.

A:is it safe to watch movies online?

So this question can go a couple ways. Watching movies via a legal source is perfectly safe (e.g Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc.). These sites have good security (Amazon probably has some of the best) and you really don't have to worry much about it. The way the movies are transmitted and viewed can be attacked, like the Microsoft Silverlight that Netflix uses could have a security hole that won't be fixed til you update it on your end (as long as Microsoft fixed the issue). So as far legal sources go, its perfectly safe to watch movies and TV shows online.
Now if you are talking means that aren't so legal, where people have uploaded them on sketchy sites and you are viewing them. Yeah those aren't so safe. They like to put viruses right in the code of the website, or they like to automatically download something without you even saying you wanted to. So no, that method is not safe.
I am curious, do you know where you read that article with the security expert? I would like to take a gander at it. I am assuming he/she saying its not safe to watch them online is meaning the not so legal ways.

this is a codec issue

i seggust that you download (K-Lite Codec Pk Full ) from (http://www.majorgeeks.com)

when you get there you will notice on the main page on the left a list of subcatagories / you will be lookin for multimedia

when installing the codec pk. you will want to leave everything set to default so do not adjust anything / now at the end of the install it will do a scan for corrupt or broken codecs , if it finds any it will if you want to replace then or remove them (say yes )

now try to watch your video's / movies

Is this possible?

I have a plugin for my Windows Media Center that allows for downloading of Netflix movies from the watch it now service to watch later - NOT stripping the DRM, just storing it on your hard drive so you don't have to wait for it to stream when watching. It comes it pretty handy since I frequently don't have the time to sit down and watch an entire movie, and resuming a Netflix movie at a later time via streaming can be a pain if you need to fast forward a lot.

When I attempt to watch the downloaded movie, which is a DRM'ed .wmv file, it goes through the whole aquiring usage rights thing and recognizes my Netflix account and plays no problem.

What I'm wondering is this: doesn't Windows Media Player have an option to store licenses? And if so, shouldn't there be a way to play the downloaded Netflix files on my laptop even if I'm not on the internet? Sure would be handy to take on trips.

I was thinking something like: 1.) Download Netflix DRMed .wmv, 2.) Open the file on my laptop while connected to the internet to verify my Netflix account and obtain the proper license, 3.) Later come back to the same file while off the internet and use the backed up installed license to view. Of course, it doesn't actually work that way, or I wouldn't be posting this thread. I'm just wondering out loud if there is a way to actually accomplish this and still stay legal. Any thoughts?

A:Legally porting Netflix Watch Now movies

Just talking out of my port hole here but since this is not a case of general distribution DRM, Netflix can require account verification for each access. That way Netflix doesn't have to worry about any movie being distributed by individuals with not so sensible intentions and, its not even that so much as it satisfies the entertainment industry regarding the method of content distribution and the rights therein.
