Q: Solved: beep beep beep beep beep beep beep

i was actually coming on here to ask about my new graphics card, butttttt...

my laptop is acting up. i have a toshiba satellite m305d-s4830
amd turion ultra x2 dual core mobile processor zm-80
4096mb 800 mhz 50ram
250gb (5400rpm) hdd

i shut it down properly upon finding that my C key was on the fritz. a couple of months ago, my E key had been doing the same (randomly not working and randomly typing e consistently). once i rebooted, i got the message "Operating System (OS) Not Found".

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

there are no extra items like CDs or disks in the laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

A:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. Before the move Brother would scan and copy and the HP would do the same, but now as noted I can't get any response out of it but beep, beep, beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. Hi,

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hello,

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

A:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. My other topic went unnoticed but I've managed to downsize the problem a bit in the meantime.

Issue: No POST beep thus no display on monitor

How it happened: Computer's been fine for months - pulled out video card - dusted off all fans - put it back in - no POST beep.

What I've tried:
Reattaching the video card several times and cleaned for dust on and around socket/card. Reseating RAM and booting with each chip.
Cleared CMOS (I think, ~30 seconds on CLR RTC (should it be a full minute?))
Making sure that all cables are properly connected (they should be as I didn't detach any internal ones initially)

Any ideas?

Hello,

I acquired an HP Pavilion dv9000 from a friend who gave it to me for parts. It had the usual video issue that alot of the dv family has. I saw somewhere that you could take the mother board out and bake it for 10 minutes to sort of reseat that nvidia video chip, so I tried it for something to do and put it back together, reformatted and it works beautifully.

The only thing I have noticed is that once in a while it will make a click noise noise followed by a long beep. I figure the motherboard is probably dying. It didn't cost me anything, but it's nice having this great big spare laptop for email and stuff. Any suggestions?

AMD processor, 2 512mb sticks ram.

Thanks!
Mogo

I just got a IC7-G Motherboard and after I got everything plugged in and setup I turned it on and I can only get a long continueous beep. After a while of checking every little thing I can think of I removed the board for the case and ran it on a cardboard box. I was hoping a riser pin was in the wrong place but no luck.

I tried running it with the following:
1 stick of DDR ram in (256) IN DIMM slot 1
3.0 ghz prescott CPU
CPU fan
graphics card

I change the graphics card, try a diffrent stick of ram and tried using an older processor.

All I can get is the long beep with no vid signal. All pieces heat up. I've reset CMOS and taken the battery in and out. Nothing changes.

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if it's possible to make the internal PC speaker beep in Windows. I'm not talking about external speakers or headphones, I'm talking about the speaker inside a desktop computer.

What I've been told is starting Windows Vista, the beep.sys file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers is replaced with a newer version that doesn't allow beeping through the internal speaker, and all beeps go through external speakers (if connected). I've also been told that in Windows XP, with no external speakers connected, Windows XP will use the internal speaker for console.beep in VB.NET, or with any error/warning message.

A few articles online said you can replace your own beep.sys file with one from Windows XP, although this will only work on 32-bit installations. I haven't tried this yet, but I do have an installation of Windows XP available. It would be even better if someone could find a way to also do this on 64-bit installations. (Maybe use the beep.sys from Windows XP x64 Edition?)

Anyway, I want the end result to be able to use console.beep on Windows Vista or newer OS and have the sound come through the internal speaker. Any suggestions?

Whatever your intention, you really don't want your program to go messing around with the Windows system files. Even if it works (and I imagine you want some sort of audible alert that can't be disabled by just turning off the sound), you'd then throw anything else that expects the beep to use the headphones or connected speakers.

As to the actual answer, you'd need to send a signal to the hardware directly and I don't know how to do that. Perhaps something here can help: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread....om-PC-Internal-Speaker-(not-from-sound-card)-!!

Hey there, I got a throw away PC from a friend of mine the other day, and it has a microstar ms6147 motherboard. Was running fine, then I put a new network card in and now when I turn it on the motherboard's giving an error beep. I don't have the manual and can't find it anywhere so I don't know what it refers to, so I came to you guys!

It's a single long beep followed by an equally long silence, then another beep, etc. Nothing appears on the screen.

Thanks for whatever input you can give!

I removed my 2 memory modules and when I put them back in and turn the power on, computer beeps constantly and I can't get it started. I checked to see if my modules were installed properly and they were. Computer is a Proteva P4 with intel inside (about 8 years old). What am I doing wrong ? Almost sure its not my mother board or cpu fan.

Hey guys, I'd like to first apologize if this is in the wrong area of the forums, I'm new to TechGuy.
Grandma has a Dell Desktop(no specific model), but she was using her computer and it immediately shut off on her. She tried to turn it back on and got 4 brief beeps back to back. (beep beep beep beep........beep beep beep beep........etc etc). Tried looking for common issues, so far I'm concerned it might be either the motherboard or memory failure. Any tips will help, thanks in advance.
