710 14IKB latest windows update broke the sound.

Q: 710 14IKB latest windows update broke the sound.

My laptop didnt recognize sound drivers after the latest update. Well I did as "https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-710-14ikb-80V4-latest-system-Intel-dr..." suggested, but he had a different version of the Yoga than mine. I installed the newest realtek drivers for my laptop. I get weird pops n freezes when playing audio. Device Manager insists for me to troubleshoot the PC, "Intel High Definition DSP - no drivers installed" and is unable to fix it. What now?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I was about to post to seek for help but I've fixed it myself, so I'm going to post just to give an heads up, the latest system Intel driver update (, from Windows Update) broke my audio, it couldn't find my audio card anymore. I've tried to download and install the audio drivers (and the chipset drivers) from the Lenovo product support page, it didn't fix anything, finally I could solve the problem with the latest "generic" realtek drivers, here is the link in case somebody has the same problem, make sure to download the 64 bit version http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&Down...

Since the latest update following the 1511 upgrade, my PC slowed to almost a standstill. After hours of detection, I found the culprit is One Drive, which seems never to stop trying upload files. The only solution was to unlink One Drive, which in effect makes it pretty useless. Is there any way anyone has found to make One Drive behave as it should?

I run multiple Minecraft servers on my Windows 10 desktop. Just recently, I rebooted my PC to install updates, and now my servers can no longer communicate even though I have set up my static IP and port forwarded correctly. I have attached an image to prove that everything is set up to allow my servers to communicate, but that they cannot. I immediately figured out that the update must have caused the problem, and uninstalled it manually. Instantly the port jumped back online and players could once again connect. But it wasn't long before Windows 10 forced the update to reinstall and reboot the computer. Except this time, the update froze, leaving my computer at 37% installing updates for about 15 minutes before I gave up and manually shut the computer down by holding the power button. When it rebooted, it said the update had failed, and yet my servers remained disconnected from their ports. I told the computer to reinstall the update so it wouldn't force-reboot later. My troubleshooting process was interrupted my a Spring Break vacation. When I returned, my computer notified me that yet another update was available, and I installed it in the hopes that it had fixed the issue. No such luck. I created a random test port in my router for port 80, and it still shows up as being closed. My friends and I are starting to miss our servers, but I have tried everything I can think of and my servers remain offline despite the ports being set up properly.

P.S. I checked Windows Firew... Read more

After (finally) installing the latest released Cumulative update on my HP Pavilion dv7, Bluetooth no longer functions properly. Playing Music via Bluetooth to my Beatbox Portable is now "choppy" sounding - behaving like my Laptop is too far away for the Bluetooth connection. Even when I lay my Laptop next to the Device, it still doesn't function properly. Prior to the install of this latest release it was flawless - up to 100 feet away. Now cant use it at all. I note the date of the INTEL BLUETOOTH DRIVER is 3/2016 -- so looks like it was updated in this latest W10 update.

Anybody else? If no known fix I guess I'll have to back out this update, if possible, because I REALLY need this Bluetooth to function properly.

Problem: No sound for streaming videos. (I don't have video stored on my computer to test that source.) Internet source sound works from Merriam Webster Dictionary Audio and from MSN Mail, so may be a streaming problem.

Possible Cause: On 6/4 I installed one security update - Windows Defender Definition Update #KB915597 Definition 1.59.789.0. Since that installation I cannot get sound via the internet except through MSN Mail. No sound from UTube or other video sites.

Other Possible Cause: Ocassionally I get error messages re: Java, either "not the latest version" or "this program needs an earlier version". However the sound worked fine until the 6/4 update was installed. I have installed the latest version and uninstalled all previous versions but still get the message.

Already Tried:
1. Uninstalling the update, can't be done because it's Windows Defender.
2. Switching browsers from Firefox 3 to IE 7, still had no sound.
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling Java.

Additional Info: Audio is fine for music through Media Player. Via internet I do get the greeting voice sound from MSN email. I don't use other internet sound sources much so don't know if this is blocking all other internet sound.

Can you tell me how to solve this?

Hi folks,
When windows 10 was first released I downloaded it and burned to DVD using the media creation tool from Microsoft.
As windows 10 has now had a major update, and I want to create a DVD with that update on it, without having to reinstall it later, as I have other partitions on my computer to update to 10 as well.
So my query is, does anyone know if I was to download windows 10 32 bit from Microsoft again (using the media creation tool from Microsoft) will it include the latest major update to 10?
Thanks for any help

Sound has been lost after installing latest NVIDIA drivers.

Sound returned for no apparent reason then lost after sleep mode. I tried uninstalling the sound driver by itself now its not returning on its own and update check doesn't know its gone. I uninstalled VIA audio or disabled it somewhere as far as I know, I don't know how to enable it again, but the sound returned briefly after that anyway.

A:Sound lost after latest NVIDIA update

uninstall the device from device manager in the system and security section of the control panel. Reboot; then hopefully windows will re-detect it and reinstall it properly; then reboot again and see if that solves the issue. If not post back.

VIA audio was uninstalled then auto installed on reboot which solved the problem for only a few minutes. What do I do now.

A:Sound lost after latest NVIDIA update for GTX 760

Verify the audio config. Installing video drivers, which often now include HDMI audio chipset drivers, often cause the default audio device to be changed to the HDMI output. Simply change the default device back to your standard audio chipset.

You can also manually update/reinstall the VIA audio drivers.

Hi all,

I just installed the round of critical updates through windows update. This was Thursday, Oct 14th.

Restarted, and now everytime I right-click on a file in Windows Explorer, explorer vanishes, the taskbar vanishes, the entire screen goes blue, then the screen comes back as it was before, except without explorer.

Also, the redraw of the system tray is incomplete.

All I want is to be able to tell which updates were installed by my computer on 10/14 so I can rip them out by their filthy roots.

Under add/remove programs, all the updates are listed, but there are no dates next to any of them. If I click on the support info link, I get a website, not more info about when I installed it.

Is there some way to know when an update was installed?

Hi all,
This is my first post here.
I have an XPS 13 9360, and had a dual boot Win 10 Home and Linux Mint system running fine (albeit because of WiFi driver issues, I had to go with 32-bit Linux and Legacy Boot to get Grub working).
Now, after a recent set of Dell updates, most notably the December 12th BIOS update (v.2.4.2), Grub was deleted and I could only boot into Windows. After managing to repair Grub using a Linux Live USB, I got Grub back and thought everything was fine (using UEFI now). However...
If I am in Windows 10 and choose to Restart, the Grub entry in the BIOS gets deleted again!!! I have to obviously then run through the whole process with a Live USB to get it re-installed.
What is more, after Windows exits, a while a dell SupportAssist screen will show, which runs some ePSA Pre-boot Assessment [4304.32], saying that a hard drive cannot be found.
The hard drive seems to work fine, and also there is no problem with Grub with the Windows Shutdown, so the fact that a hard drive can't be found on reboot is weird, potentially some driver bug?
The issue may be related to Windows 10 updates happening in parallel, but I cannot be sure.
Unfortunately, I tried to downgrade the BIOS firmware to an older version, only to be kindly informed that this is not allowed, so, thanks for that, I'm now stuck with an irreversible firmware update!

I have already wasted 2 days with this, when I just wanted my laptop to work as it was set up a few week ago, and wa... Read more

Hi Bartender. . .

I saw this thread and thought that your friend might like to go in and see if the desktop shortcuts and documents folders are still there - and whether he can salvage them.

The following commands must be issued from a command prompt and should be executed using the Administrator account in SAFEMODE as another admin account may not be allowed access due to folder/file permission settings. Of course, it won't hurt to try another admin account first.

from any command prompt ">" - replace the %user% variable with the actual username (no %)

cd c:\
cd Documents and Settings
cd %user%\Desktop
dir (this will list all files including shortcuts)

cd c:\
cd Documents and Settings
cd %user%
cd My Documents
dir (this will list all folders and files in My Documents)

To copy these files out to a DVD (assuming DVD drive e: - may run into space capacity problems) -

after the "dir" command, type this:

copy *.* e:

to selectively copy - place part of a filename with an asterisk -

copy a*.* e: (copies all files beginning with the ... Read more

I fired up 7 today to be met with no sound. So I tried going into device mangaer. It wouldn't open and gave me a 'failed to create a temporary' something or other. It was a MMC error which goes back to at least Win2K.

I couldn't close several windows, access device mangaer etc, so not being in the mood to try and fix it, I opted for a restore point. I noticed that the most recent restoe point had a Windows Update Installed beside it (I had forgotten to turn off automatic updating )

I selected the next restore point where I knew everything was working and everytings back to normal.

I checked the Updates available and there was one for my Dell Monitor and one for an ATI pre-release driver. I just installed the Dell update and it seems fine. I'm not going to try the ATi driver as i prefer to get drivers from the source and not WU.

Anyone else (especially with ATI cards) have any WU troubles?

Ladies & Gents

Recently I began to update some machines that have not been updated since 2007. They are on winxp pro sp2. At the start I did not know that the win 03 server had the ability to push updates to the clients. So I forced the first one to use the regular windows update site and brought it fully up to date with sp3. All seamed fine.

A few days later it was reported to me that they could not print to one of the printers anymore. So at my next visit I attempted to fix this printer issue. The printer is shared from another client and works just fine. It shows up in the win 03 server, and I can print a test page from it and to it.

When I try to add a printer on the client I get an error message '....unable to add the printer connection, the specified printer has lost its connection to the server.'

This post seem to indicate that the problem may be sp3

Any other thoughts?

Most of what google yields is quite dated. One post even has a big log registry hack to follow. I don't really want to go there.

This is the first time I have ever used win 03 server, so.... I am acquainted with 3.0, 95, 98, me, xp and vista. Now I use Debian Linux on every thing.

Thanks in advance

CURSE YOU MICROSOFT! few hours ago my xps 8900 is working fine then wife called me for dinner and I decided to turn off my PC. It asked me if I want to install the update and shutdown or restart. I choose shutdown. after eating dinner I went back and booted up the machine and asked me for my password. While I was typing I noticed that I was not connected to my network anymore but I still proceeded logging in. After I press enter it just hanged on the looping circle and I was cursing after that. Can't even do control, alt+ del. I have to turn off the PSU. Did the same thing more than 10 times same result. I was ready to hurt somebody.
Good thing I have a backup laptop that has the exact programs and setup as the xps 8900 and good thing my data files are in a network external drive. So I went looking at the web and saw tons of people having problems after the windows update. The dell recovery drive I made does not even want to work and I know it works before as I already did a full recovery with the USB when I did a SSD upgrade. Now I am forced to use a stock windows 10 recovery disk I have to reinstall the OS......this just stinks......so to all of you out there DO NOT UPDATE WINDOW 10 OR GO BACK TO WINDOWS 7! which I am thinking of doing. It took me almost a whole work day to drill down to the single patch causing the problem coming with the latest patch day.

It is kb3109094 which breaks the remote X display of the Xclient.
Please may somebody at microsoft have a look into this as kb3109094 is marked as a security patch and I suspect the security has been tightened too much here.
The whole process of finding the problem cause was very time consuming and it raises 3 questions for me:
Q1. Why can't I just download the patches that my system wants
without also automatically install them?
(It takes about 20 minutes up to an hour for my system to check the patch status if I invoke it manually and this is a process I have to repeat redundantly if I only install a subset of the shown patches in a single swoop)
After I had manually downloaded the required KBxxx.msu patches one by one I also had to install them one by one.
Q2. Why is there no GUI option to select a bunch of patches from a downloaded directory and install them in one go? (not forgetting to set a restore point before installing)
Q3. Why is there no easy! feedback channel for problems resulting from updates?

It may become worse with windows 10 automatic updates if a bad update breaks something and people cannot give feedback on this quickly.

Until later, then it does it again. Have rebooted both computer and printer and still has the same issue.

ok, reasonably new vaio laptop, was working fine, but it was asking constantly if it could install some updates. the popup would say it was rebooting in 5 mins, and it would let you cancel it. eventually, my sister wasn't there to click no, and it rebooted and ran some updates, but it hung during the install of these updates. after which it will not boot past "welcome", even in safe mode.

i'd love it if someone can help me, i have a seriously busy schedule, and this laptop has become quite a problem.

i can't help but be furious, i even tried to get help from microsoft, and they say it's not their problem, and they just say to reinstall. they don't seem even the slightest bit sorry that their forced update broke this laptop.

anyhow, it's xp home with sp2, and i can't get all the technical details of the machine, since i can't boot it and look, but it's really pretty new. if there's anything specific i can answer, let me know.

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

A:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

About a week ago I ran Malwarebytes to try to remove mystartsearch which was added to my browser inadvertently.

After the Malware was quarantined successfully, I realised that all sound on my laptop was not working. The speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner shows a red x sign. Double clicking the speaker icon tries to repair the problem but gives the error: one or more audio services are not running - error not fixed*

Thinking that the Malwarebytes was the problem I tried to restore the files that have been quarantined. However a number of dll files could not be restored. I noted only these files as they didn't seem to be related to mystartsearch

The .dll files quarantined were:

None of these could be restored via Malwarebytes. So I removed the software all together via control panel.

I tried several system restores but the one restore point prior to this event fails to restore. And run sfc /scannow

How can i restore the sound and are any of these files the culprit.

Any help is gratefully received.

It is very possible the malware injected itself in to those dll files. Re-run the scan and keep those quarantined.

Maybe you can copy-paste the dll from a working computer. (Not sure if it would work) Don't download from Internet for apparent reasons.

Last night an update happened on my laptop and now today no internet seems to be connecting to it.
The internet works fine on my mac computer right next to it when I plug the ethernet cable in but does nothing on my laptop when I swap the cable to it (I'm typing this on my mac) I keep receiving the error "one or more network protocols are missing from this computer"

I have tried:
Disabling ipv6
Installing reliable multicast protocol
Disable and re enable network adapter
ifconfig release/renew
reset winsock

Im at my wits end and nothing seems to help. I have been using Windows 10 just fine for a couple of weeks until this update. I still have the ability to downgrade back to Windows 8 for a couple more days but I would rather not as I don't even know that will fix my issue. I also have no previous reset points to roll back to.

Everything worked fine before the Anniversary Update. Now i cannot setup a hotspot. I reinstalled the drivers that Windows installs by default for the device (Realtek RTL8188EU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter - worked before the update). Tried to update it from Device Manager, but there is no new update. Also tried with the latest drivers from http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-WN725N.html#Driver.
When I typed in cmd netsh wlan show drivers it says: Hosted network supported : No
For setting up the hotspot i use http://www.mypublicwifi.com/publicwifi/en/index.html.
Can you guys help?

Hello all,

I am having a problem with by machine after a recent windows update. There were 3 updates, one was SP1. After that WMP 12 will not play any mpeg files. It just hangs and has to be killed with the task manager. I have tried all the fixes I could find including the FixIt routines from Microsoft. So far nothing. Anybody have any ides of where I might start looking?

Have you tried a plain reinstall. Uninstall from Control Panel, then delete any remneants in Program Files if there are any. Then either download an old version like 11 or 10 from a non-Microsoft site OR just re-download 12. May work.. If not I suggest a new media player like iTunes, WinDVD or VLC.

Hi there.

Back on the 9th I installed the Windows 8.1 Update 1 for my laptop (HP Envy m6-1206TX), which - to the best of my understanding - has broken my computer. Neither my computer nor WhoCrashed seems to think there's a problem, so I don't have anything better than a description for this.

After the initial mandatory restart and every restart since then, I am able to log in normally. However, within a few minutes my taskbar and desktop will both freeze and then disappear. Any windows that are open will cycle between which is the active window making them almost but not entirely unusable, and the screen will flash. After a couple of minutes of this, the flashing will increase in speed and the computer will rapidly cycle between desktop mode and the start screen. At this point the computer is completely unusable, and even "control+alt+delete -> Task Manager" is useless due to the way in which the computer quickly jumps between the start screen and desktop.
The only way to deal with the problem is to force-shut down the computer and, upon booting it again, immediately go to the task manager and terminate the Windows Explorer process, which leaves me without a start screen, windows commands, a desktop, or any of charms and other windows features.

Thus-far I've been in an online chat with the Windows 8 service team, only to find that I am ineligible for free support due to my computer being two months out of warranty and having been a Windows 8 native install ra... Read more

A:Windows 8.1 Update 1 (KB 2919355) Broke Windows Explorer

Does it work after booting in safe mode? Sounds like some sort of driver/software conflict and if it works in safe mode this might confirm this. Also try a clean boot as listed below;
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

and try the sfc/ scannow command
SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

It might be a suck it & see scenario until the problem is solved.

Anyone doing a fresh install of Windows 7 should manually install SP1 (if needed).

The Windows Update Agent was renamed to Windows Update Client.

Manually requesting a search for Windows Updates on a Windows 7 computer with SP1 install should prompt the user to install a pre-SP1 Windows Update (WU) Agent (7.6.7600.320). Seems odd.

That old WU Agent worked just fine until Microsoft changed the update servers. The info coming back from the servers seems to now cause high RAM/CPU usage for some computers... but that old WU Agent should eventually get the job done. The computer might be useless for any other task for 24+ hours.

You can skip installing that old WU Agent and manually install the latest WU Client instead. Or, you can manually install the latest WU Client over top of that old WU Agent.

However, below is what I encountered when I went to install the latest Windows Update Client on a W7 pro 64bit SP1 computer.

I started by using these search terms in Google:
"Windows Update Client" "March 2016" "Windows 7"
As this post ages, replace "March 2016" with the current month/year.
If that does not find the desired KB, try the previous month.

That lead me to this link for March 2016: KB3138612.

The W7 pro 64bit SP1 computer has IE8 installed by default.

Visiting KB3138612 via IE8 got me this:

Clicking on the link to update the browser got me this:

I updated Windows 10 to the latest version on July 6, and then nothing worked. Nothing I click on happens--nothing! I can get into the files, so I see that the windows.old is there (until tomorrow!), but I have no idea where to start. Clicking start doesn't even work. HELP! I need to go back to the way my computer was before the update. May I please have step by step instructions?

I have just had an update, as per screenshot below. I have an ASUS X54C series laptop, running Win 10 Pro 64-bit.

Is this the latest update? It took a long time to download and install (I only have a 4Mbps ADSL connection), and I was worried that something had gone wrong.

A:Latest Windows update
