DISA compliance scan (using Nessus) does not recognize EMET as enabled/installed

Q: DISA compliance scan (using Nessus) does not recognize EMET as enabled/installed

I have installed EMET 5.1 on Windows 2012R2 member server that I am testing for compliance.
Also, admin template file (EMET.admx) has been added to PolicyDefinitions folder in sysvol.
I can see in GPRESULT output that EMET policies have been applied and I can see in REGEDIT that EMET keys have been created.
For some reason, that I am trying to find out, when scanning with Nessus and using DISA _STIG_Server_2012_MS_v1r3.audit policy definitions, it fails every EMET-related item.

Does anyone else have the same problem? What is the remedy?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When Enhanced Protected Mode of IE10 is enabled, column of Running EMET become blank.

It is which about whether this is a problem only of a display, or whether actually not effective?

Such a phenomenon did not occur in version 2.1.

A:EMET GUI reports not Running EMET in IE10 when Enhanced Protected Mode enabled

It appears to be a problem of display.

Since deploying EMET 5.2 via group policy and taking standard application default values exept for EAF on IE 11 (So IE opens in Windows 10), I have an issue with Photoshop opening on a users Windows 7 Professional workstation.  The event log
error is:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version:, time stamp: 0x4d9d8cbc
Faulting module name: EMET.DLL, version:, time stamp: 0x5503c3e4

Report Id: 4b0b4387-4b2b-11e5-a484-90b11c6babbe

What would be the first thing you would change in EMET under the group policy to take off of Photoshop.exe?  Would it be EAF, because that fixed IE 11.  Would it be something else?  There's multiple things it could be, but whats the most common
protection that may solve this so I don't spend hours updating group policy, gp refreshes and testing?

Recently had a PCI Compliance Scan performed which I failed for the following reason: "Firewall UDP Packet Source Port 53 Ruleset Bypass".  I am using Windows Firewall in Windows 7 Pro and the only place I can find any rule that specifies
port 53 is Core Networking DNS (UDP-Out).  I am not sure if I should disable this rule or not.  Or should I block port 53 in my wireless router?

My McAfee Real-Time Scan will not remain enabled. When I try to run either Quick Scan or Full Scan, an error message comes up, telling me to return to the McAfee Internet Security Home and to try to run the scan again.

I have followed their instructions for re-enabling the Real-Time Scan to the best of my abilities, by trying to restart the McShield Service, and by running the oas-disabled-fix.cmd utility that they instructed me to download. The oas-disabled-fix.cmd utility will not run.

I have contacted McAfee and they have told me that it is a problem with Windows Update. I have contacted Microsoft and told them that as well, but they seem to be trying to rule out any other possible cause, than what McAfee says is the actual cause of the problem, thereby dragging this out even longer.

Microsoft is supposed to be getting back to me again tomorrow, but any other help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

EMET 5.0 or EMET 5.1(both tested)
Firefox - tested with Versions: 31.1 ESR, 31.2 ESR, 31.3 ESR (prerelease), regular v33.1.1OS: Windows 7 x64

When Firefox Application-Mitigation "EAF+" is enabled, Firefox start is really really slow (~35 seconds). After disabling the "EAF+" Mitigation for Firefox.exe its start-time is reduced to ~3-5 seconds as expected.
The "EAF+" Mitigation is by default turned on using the Default-Protection-Profile "Popular Software.xml" which is provided with EMET 5.0 and EMET 5.1.
EMET 4.1 didn't show this behavior - but as I remember there wasn't EAF+ available with EMET 4.1.

Here is the problem:

When I am in Google (in Windows Vista) when using Internet Explorer Version 7 and click "Preferences" I get a notice "Your cookies seem to be disabled. Setting preferences will not work until you enable cookies in your browser."

I checked to see if my cookies are enabled (Tools > Internet Options > Privacy and found that indeed my cookies are enabled. That is, the security setting is at "medium."

I do have Norton Internet Security installed with default options selected.

Note: (1) I did have this problem before and it was resolved by going into Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset. It did not work this time. (2) Sea Monkey also tells me that my cookies are disabled.

I would appreciate it if anyone has a solution to this problem.

We are having a weird issue where Edge is crashing at startup after EMET v5.51 is installed on Windows 10 Enterprise x64 v1607.
We installed EMET v5.51 on a new instance of Windows 10 Enterprise x64 v1607, disabled all EMET configuration using EMET_Conf command line, and rebooted. Edge then crashes immediately when it is started, everytime. Tried with a different user account
also and same issue. Even weirder is that even after uninstaling EMET and rebooting, Edge still crashes.
So it appears that just the action of installing EMET is breaking Edge for all users on the system, not necessarily an actual EMET Mitigation. Also EMET documentation indicates that it doesn't interact with Edge in anyway as well, so even weirder that EMET
is breaking edge when it supposidly doesn't have any interaction.
EMET didn't log anything in the eventlog for Edge crashing, but there is this application Error for Edge:

Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas on why this might be occurs?

Okay so basically some programs and devices started acting a bit goofy about a month ago, it was small stuff and I didn't really care. Now my Wacom Bamboo Create Tablet stops working, as well as my printer/scanner (Canon MP490). This was too much so I tried finding the problem, so I head to my Device Manager only to find that it is empty! Not one device shows up in my device list. So after doing some research and seeing that a possible problem is that my PNP is disabled so I go to my processes and see that PNP is enabled. That was a week ago or so. Today I encounter another problem a setting in Photoshop is bugging out, after research updating the driver for my graphics card seem to be the solution. So I download a graphics card detector from my card's manufacturer and try to open it only to receive the following error.

"Could not enumerate PNP devices. Is the plug and play process disabled?"

After digging around a little more I see that malware might be the cause, so I run a full scan, I'm clean. So it appears that Plug and Play IS enabled, it's just being recognized for some reason. I'd really appreciate any help! Thanks!

A:Plug and Play is enabled, but devices do not recognize that it is on.

Malware may indeed be at work here. That one scan you ran may not be enough, What was it by the way? And, did you run a Full?

See if you can download, install, and run MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Rkill.
If you're prevented from doing so, you're infected.

If they all show nothing, time for a clean install.

Good Morning!

I've been fighting this for a few days and finally need to reach out for help. I'm receiving 3 hits on my Nessus Scans for KB3097966 KB3123040 KB3119884

Environment - Windows 7 Pro standalone systems (Never connected to a domain, work group, or the internet)
I've applied the three listed KB updates but all three errors state that the CTL has not been updated (which I obviously can't do because I don't connect to the internet or a DC w/WSUS).

There was a link on many forums to a rootupdater that no longer exists - instead, there are 2 links for trusted and untrusted ctls which I downloaded, burned, and then installed on the aforementioned machine.

I've tried https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265983.aspx (bottom of the page - registry settings modified) to no avail.

I do have a windows 7 machine available that I can update and export the certificates - I must have done something wrong because that didn't work either.

Any tips, tricks, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Win 7 Professional x64
EMET 5.2 & Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 were working together. Not sure what my EMET 5.2 mitigation settings were for Reader.
Upgraded to EMET 5.5 and now I get a message when launching Adobe Reader saying:
"Adobe Acrobat Reader DC cannot be opened in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC with Protected Mode disabled?"
If I select open with Protected Mode disabled, Adobe still crashes for certain operations. My default EMET settings for AcroRd32.exe are everything checked except ASR.
If I disable all mitigations in EMET 5.5, Adobe Reader works normally.
If I return mitigations to default and then additionally disable EAF+, the problem persists, although I found a post saying that fixed the issue in earlier versions of EMET.
Question: Is there a custom set of mitigations that enable Reader to work, or should I disable Reader mitigations in EMET, or should I disable Protected Mode in Reader, or should I use a different PDF viewer like SumatraPDF?

Hello Everyone,

I have been in IT for 10+ years and have done desktop/server support, programming, DBA, etc. I have come across an issue on my personal laptop that has stumped me. This started recently in the past month. It was around the time, I did a few windows updates and a FF update. So I have been unable to pinpoint what caused it.

My Problem -

All of my browsers started to freeze upon loading a new page (even non flash webpages, ie google.com) They would freeze for 5-10 minutes. I noticed if I disabled the flash plugin in FF, then FF acted normally. I uninstalled the flash activex module, and IE started to work properly again as well. I did a lot of testing by removing flash and all of my adobe components (CS4) and acrobat. Anything flash related I removed completely, I then used a tool provided by adobe to remove any leftover remnants of adobe (registry entries, folders, etc). I tried many different versions of FF, Opera, Safari and Chrome and many different versions of the flash player (9-current). They all acted the same with flash installed, if I uninstalled flash, all the browsers worked perfectly fine.

I finally gave in and reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 32bit. I am running into the same issues again.

I was originally running Windows 7 x64, but am now at Windows 7 32bit.
Some things to note, my work laptop is Windows 7, and it works perfectly fine, as does my wife's personal and work laptops.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them... Read more

A:All browsers freeze with flash enabled/installed.

The only thing I can think of here - and you probably already checked for this - is that the Flash plugin somehow doesn't play well with GPU acceleration for video playback enabled. If you disable it, the problem persists?

Hello all.

I have a problem with my ethernet port on my workstation.

The computer crashed so i reformatted it with a fresh install of WinXp Pro.

Here are the system specs:

Symantec Endpoint Protection
Windows Firewall
Service Pack 3
Network User - Logged on as Administrator on Network Domain
Internet comes from modem to 16 port switch to workstation. all other stations work fine (even with SP3)
2.4 Core 2 Duo
2 gb ram
Asus P5945GC mobo

Before, the internet was working before I reformatted it. Now I cant connect to internet, network or anything else. The network cable is unplugged icon is on at the bottom right corner of the screen. I have tried numerous versions of the ethernet driver, and nothing helps. I have tried setting up a manual connection for broadband connection and nothing works.

i am assuming it is a software problem, because nothing physically happened to the ethernet plug or port. I even tried plugging in a different ethernet cable into the pc and still nothing.

I am thinking it might have somthing to do with SP3 or some kind of setting not allowing it to be used. I checked Device Manager, it is working properly and enabled.

Im stumpted, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

My Lenovo G575, Win7 64, stopped outputting audio today after I plugged in a Jawbone Jambox into it by USB for the first time. A small window popped up stating, something about software or drivers being installed (I don't remember exactly). After the (install) process was complete, I unplugged the USB, and the audio from the laptop no longer worked. I immediately did a system restore to an earlier date when the audio worked. After the restore, there was still no audio coming from the internal speakers or from the output jack. If I plug in headphones into the output jack, all I hear is faint static. There is not faint static, or any sound, coming from the laptop's internal speakers, however.

Next, I:
1. Control Panel >Hardware and Sound >Manage audio devices
In this window, it shows that my Default Device (Speakers, Conexant SmartAudio HD) is enabled. This is the only playback device listed, and the meter bar displays activity if a mp3 file is played, but still no sound.
I have right clicked on the playback device in this window:
A. Enabled and disabled this playback device, and restarted my computer. No effect.
B. Configured speakers. No effect.
C. Test. No sound, but activity displayed on the meter bar.
D. Clicking Properties in this window:
General: This device is enabled
Levels: 100
Enhancements: defaults restored
Advanced: defaults restored

2. Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Troubleshooting > Hardware and Sound > Sound >... Read more

A:No sounds from PC with audio device installed, updated and enabled.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound card (Conexant) to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

If there were a corruption between Windows and the sound card, this will fix it. This also fixes a lot of flakey problems and may take care of yours.

I got a Dell E6220 with Windows 7 32bits. Our System Admin pushed the new A/V upgrade from Symantec 11 to Symantec 12 and that broke all the network connectivities including Ethernet and Wifi.

I was able to run CleanWipe couple time and get rid of all the Symantec crap and checked the registry to make sure there aren't any Symantec stuff in there.

I was able to re-install the Ethernet adaptor and that got the internet working. But when I un-install the WiFi adaptor and re-installed it. It never really re-established the connection between the hardware and Windows. I un-installed the adaptor and re-installed it couple times but no prevail.

The adaptor's driver is installed properly and it's enabled in the control panel. But there is X mark on the wifi symbol and it says troubleshoot. When I try to troubleshoot it say the driver might not be installed properly.

I also plugged in the Netgear USB Wifi Adaptor and it was able to install it but it's doing the same thing as the built in adaptor.

I restart the WLAN service couple times but still no prevail. The Ethernet is working fine without any issue.

So it seems like the WiFi connectivity/services are messed up in the registry. I would hate to re-install windows. ANY SUGGESTIONS??. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I have been banging my head on the keyboard for three weeks with this one.
I built a 2008 R2 server with SCCM 2012 on it, connecting to a SQL 2008 server. They talk fine with each other.
SCCM has the boundary and boundary groups set up. I have ad discovery (tried with and without subnets) and those work.
Auto installing the client upon discovery works.
The clients find their MP and know their site code. All clients show approved (automatically) in the console - mpcontrol log lists 200 OK

The logs show that they prepare their scheduled eval and send it. When I initiate a hardware policy update, I can netstat and see the connection on various ports to the server
I ran wireshark (OPNET) and initiated a reinstall and can see communication between the client and the server and the server and the sql server.
Everything seems to work correctly, I find some errors in the logs, but nothing that jumps out as the cause.
The problem is all clients have components listed as not installed and only machine and user policy retrieval listed.
In the console, the clients show Client Check - no results, nothing under Hardware or Software scan
I have research THOROUGHLY on the internet on all logs as well as the issue I just described, tried a million things, redoing webdav, ccmclean, etc)
Any thoughts - they would be greatly appreciated!

I recently jus installed 2x 1gb sticks of ram on my cpu, when i pull up the bios and the system properties it only recognizes 1024mb not 2048mb, i inserted the sticks individually also and it only recognized 512mb for each one, im not sure if i got jipped or if im jus doin something wrong, the model #'s for the sticks of ram are (1GBUFURTULAA) and my mother board is a (MS-7061), and im running windows XP Home, i did alot of compatabillity research before i purchased the memory sticks so i know there compatible, but if someone could help me out with getting my cpu to recognize the full 2 gigs it would be greatly appreciated!!! and im not sure about my OS and the 32bit & 64bit terms, but if someone could explain those to me in laymen terms and how i could find out what mine is that would help me out alot also!!! ty!

A:My CPU wont recognize the 2GB RAM installed?

We're going to need more information about your computer, before we can help you. I had almost no luck googling that part number. I think it's MSI, but their website is denying it exists.

The 32 bit / 64 bit OS issue doesn't really matter until after about 3 GB of RAM is installed. A 32 bit OS will handle 2GB easily.

From what you've said so far it seems like the board has a max capacity of 1 GB, but who knows. The Memory part # doesn't tell much of anything either. Who made it? How much memory was in the computer before you started the upgrade?

Up till now I've only had 1 HD with only 1 big partition. All my drives were as follows: (It was set as a master obviously.)

A drive...floppy
C drive
D drive: my card reader
E drive: my CDROM
F drive: my CD-RW

I physically installed a new 2nd. drive as described below for the express purpose of using Norton Ghost to make a copy of my original HD to this new HD...to have as a spare/backup in case of a crash. I had no intent to use this 2nd. drive AS a slave.

When I physically installed my brand new drive on the same cable as my original HD, I set this 2nd. drive as slave. It was empty; I did no formatting...I just stuck it in.

Then I booted up. The drives listed in "My Computer" read exactly as before. Bootup was normal and exactly as before and everything worked normally.
I went to Control Panel and clicked "Add New Hardware" and there I found the model number of the new drive and the cryptic statement that "this hardware is working normally."

1. So did the new drive get recognized and am I ready to go ahead and follow (use) Norton Ghost to make a copy of my current HD?

2. I had expected Windows to assign a new drive letter to something at least? If it didn't, WHY and SHOULD it have?

Hi all, Today I received my new Pavilion 17-ab0004na notebook. On unpacking it I was slightly disturbed to find visible finger prints on the lid and underneath even though it seems to be factory sealed and packed correctly. Impressive performance but immediately I noticed a very "hollow" sound if the touchpad is lightly tapped with a fingerand the whole assembly seems to move as if it were loose?? Am I being too fussy or is this a fault? I would expect a better quality/feel for what I consider to be a high end productcosting £1000! Thanks for any input or advice.

I have this website framework written in ASP.NET that I need to customize. The problem is when I open it on VS 2017 it says that the project is targeted to .NET 4.7.2 and that I don't have it (it tells me to target it down to 4.6.1). However I already downloaded
and installed .NET 4.7.2 on my machine (W7).
Any idea?

Hi, this is really puzzling. A month ago I installed ~dozen 3rd party fonts - Stone Sans and Stone Serif (all OTF) - and all was fine. I was able to use them in InDesign and Word. Today, neither program sees the fonts and they aren't listed in the Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Fonts directory, even though I installed them there a few weeks ago! When I go back to the individual font file and install, I'm told (by Win10) that they are already installed. I reinstalled them (just in case) and they still don't show up in the Fonts directory, nor are they accessible in ID or Word. So although I reinstall them, they are still "invisible" - I can't find them or use them. These are fonts I use a lot so I can't just use other fonts. I bought them from myfonts.com so they are legit copies AND I've used them on this laptop (Thinkpad Yoga 14) just a few weeks back. Any ideas what might be going on? This is a distressing mystery.

Bios Version:  A09 - 09/05/2012Windows 10 since january 2016.
My warranty is expired since i have this machine 3 years.
It started with weird messaging following a crash machine. The machine was sometime really slow. We never been used to it before that.
After a reboot and weird message, some basic application didn't want to start (All windows 10 basic application (email, calendar, picture etc.). We started to have some problem at booting. Sometime, unable to start, system was hanging there. At some point the power button was amber and nothing happened. So i did a CMOS reset but i didn't remove the battery.
We had to plug out the machine for a few minutes before booting up and the machine had start again (That was good news). But not for long, it started again having some bizarre messaging or behavior.
To do some troubleshooting, we removed all 4 dimm (4 x 4G), but we didn't take care their position in the motherboad. They all seem identical. We didn't knew they worked on pair (at that time).
We checked the PSU, he seems to be fine. I figured because, we didn't hear a beep at startup and with the green light on, the PSU should be ok. So we finally concluded it was a HD failure.
No need to say, we didn't have a recovery disk to startup again. My bad !!!
But i had another sata HD from a previous computer. The HD is not large enought, but for a test, w... Read more

Hey guys,

I recently got a used PC off of a client I had been working with. I had Ubuntu Linux running on it, and now I've wiped that off and installed XP Pro. Problem is, the computer has a wifi card installed but I cannot get XP to recognize it. All it recognizes is the ethernet adapter. Any suggestions?

I'm using Win 7 32 bits which should recognize up to 3.5 GB. I recently installed 1x 2GB of RAM to my already existent 2x 1GB RAM but for some reason in System Information it says 4.00 GB (2.00 GB usable). I checked BIOS and it says that my total memory is 4 GB. Shouldn't it say something like 4.00 GB (3.50 GB usable)? How do I solve this problem so that I can use that 1.5 GB of RAM? Thanks!

PS: I'm new here

Hi and welcome

if it is seeing it in bios yoou are fine. I suspect win 7 itself is taking almost 1 gig to speed up whenever you launch something. It is bot good and the way it is supposed to be. then you probably have an integrated video card that is using something like 512. there you go and you will be fine
