Internet provider received complaint my computer scanning other computers

Q: Internet provider received complaint my computer scanning other computers

I received 2 e-mail notifications from my internet provider that they received a complaint from caltech.edu that a computer registered to my account has been identified scanning other computers on the internet in search of vulnerabilities.  After the first e-mail 3 weeks ago, this caused concern and i immediately purchased some virus protection for our family's one PC (windows 7), one android tablet (version 4.0.3) and 2 android cells.  I ran complete scans on all and nothing was detected.  We have a cable modem and protected wireless router. Then today, we received a second e-mail from the internet provider with the same complaint and same location being probed.  i looked on-line and decided it must be malware causing the problem.  First i downloaded Malwarebites and ran it; it detected pup.optional.conduit.A.  So i Googled that which led to your website.  i don't know that removing the pup.optional.conduit.A will solve my problem.  Is that sort of malware typically the cause for the type of e-mail from caltech.edu and my internet provider?  i'm worried my internet provider is going to drop us.  I appreciate your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,TL;DR;As much as I love Lenovo computers, and use them for professional use for the past 5-6 years and buy them for all my employees, I won?t ever buy a Lenovo in Israel (and of course wont suggest it anymore) as long as the service provider stays "CPM computer services" , as they are simply useless, and I actually lost money because of their inability to give service. The longer version:I want to make a complaint about your Israel warranty service provider  - CPM computer services.I bought a 520S ideapad (with i7 processor) from an official local supplier (KSP israel) which I'm familiar with and trust, after a few weeks the laptop stopped booting and I couldn't start it (happens, I know, I didn?t panic..)As the computer was a few weeks old I've contacted the official service provider CPM which picked up the computer after a few days, and sent me an email that the computer was received.Since that moment I haven't heard from them for almost a month, until I contacted them just to hear they are still "working on it"I've been calling them each week since then, to find out they don?t know what is the problem - so finally I've convinced them to supply me a new computer, so they offered me a new idea pad with a worse spec than the one I had, and couldn't understand why I rejected their "generous" offer. After a week or so, they decided to give me a full refund, which I'm still waiting for after another month (3'rd month without a computer).the bo... Hi Everyone,
Hoping someone can help me out with virus removal on my work laptop. I usually use a mac and never really had anything to do with viruses before. The infected computer is running Windows 7.

I was trialing a free program called Picpick and I knew right away that it had a virus in it when I went to my web browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox and IE) and they all come up with the homepage "My Start by Incredibar". I changed them all back but I find that if I type a search term into the address bar in Firefox then the My Start page will come up again.

I tried to uninstall Picpick (just by going to control panel and Uninstall/change program) and my computer would tell me it had been removed however it was still there. Also every time I started up my computer I would get a notice that I needed to update Picpick. I restarted my computer in safemode and ran the uninstaller the same as before and this time it seems to be gone...but I'm worried that it's still hidden somewhere and has several different parts, like Incredibar.

I've run virus scans using Microsoft security Essentials, Avast Free, Adaware and Malwarebytes, and they've all found a few minor things but all have been removed. After that I thought the virus might be finished with, however I just received an email from my work network monitor saying that my computer is scanning computers outside of my workplace during a time when I wasn't using it and that it is likely virus activit... In the last monthly cycle, your Internet account used 160.3 GB. That?s well above the typical monthly usage of up to 43.0 GB.

This situation could mean several things. To help guard against those issues, please consider the following steps.

If you have a wireless router, you may have unauthorized users logging onto your account. Ensure that your router is encrypted or password-protected by visiting the Web site of your router's manufacturer.
Viruses and spyware applications can, without your knowledge, generate excessive Internet traffic. My end result is to place a HiJjack This log in its appropriate forum; however, prior to doing this, one thing in the list of the instructions is to run the HouseCall virus check. When I go to do the HouseCall virus check, I receive the following: Warning the HouseCall-API did not define a Native Binding. Would anyone know what this is? What should I do? Thank you.

A:HouseCall Warning Received Before Scanning

Hi glorya14. It's nothing wrong on your end. I used to get the error as well at random times, eventually getting it to work by using IE, I think ( it's been awhile since I used it). If you cant get the scan to work without the error, skip it altogether & use either the Panda Scan or the Bit Defender scan, & then proceed with the remaining instructions.See similar here >> Problem w/Using Trend Micro Housecall, but it seems like the solutions to get it to work can be kind of a PITA.

I recommend calling your internet provider first and asking them if they can determine the cause. Then post back here whether that helped or not.

We currently use aPlus to host our website and provide email services. For the past few months, we have been experiencing problems where we will send email (via Outlook) and everything looked good on our end only to find out the recipient did not receive the email. aPlus kept asking for the email header and I kept telling them sent mails don't have headers.

Has any one experience such a problem? This is causing us major problems.

Since they are so unresponsive, can someone recommend a web/email service provider?

I am infected with the "internet crime complaint center" ransomware I guess. I have a Windows XP SP3 PC that is unable to even reboot to safe mode without having the infection show that nasty screen. Normally this PC runs Avira free Antivirus. I have Malwarebytes too and this PC's internt runs through a Cisco router.

I was going to try the: Remove the FBI MoneyPak Ransomware or the Reveton Trojan By Lawrence Abrams and I have searched the forums for help but I am unable to see how to get past the "FBI" screen to begin to try anything.

Help!
My PC picked this up last night and I've tried many of the internet suggested fixes. There isn't any file named ctfmon.lnk to be found anywhere. However I did find pj_bsfjeb that I cannot delete because it says "the action cannot be completed because the file is open Quad Database Monitor." It also will not always start in safe mode. Sometimes I just have to press F8 all during startup and I get a black background screen with large icons (like safe mode) but it doesn't say safe mode in the corners. I also installed Malwarebytes and it did it's rkill thing but the virus is still here. I don't have any backup set up either. How can I get rid of it?
Thanks,

My computer is locked down by a screen claiming to be the Internet Crime Complaint Center. It says to remove the screen I have to pay a fine. In normal mode I can't do anything including opening task manager. I am using windows 7. I am able to start in Safe Mode and I also have the Repair Your Computer option. I am finding conflicting information on what to do after either of these options so I need someone to please help me to remove this virus. Thanks.

Never saw this one before. Very clever scam -- to activate your webcam so you see yourself onscreen. I actually laughed out loud when I saw it.

Anyway, I think I found a good procedure through a general Google search to off this thing, but I had a couple quick questions. BTW, this in on an older HP notebook running on Vista.

1) Does Bleeper Computer have a foolproof procedure posted to remove this? If so, could someone send it to me. You guys always have the best fixes.

2) Usually when I get something like this, I immediately go to SAFE MODE, download the latest definitions for MalwareBytes and run a full scan, which takes care of it. This time, TWICE, it shut down the MB scan early on, so I assume I need to stop some processes first, right?

Anyway, thank you in advance for your help.

Best,

A:Internet Crime Complaint Center Spyware Removal

More information: I found the "fix" listed for this on BC. I followed all the instructions, and also downloaded and successfully ran Rkill.

Now the problem is the computer will not stay running. As I'm going into SAFE MODE, the computer keeps shutting down during boot up. I cannot even get to MalwareBytes to run it in SAFE MODE.

Am I toast?

Thank You,
EducatedGuess

Same problem as in this thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic481664.html
Couldn't start in any of the safe modes without the virus locking up the computer, so I went to "repair" option at startup and launched command prompt.

The following is my log from FRST. Thanks!

Hello. My PC with Vista Ultimate is infected with the IC3 ransomware. I initially opened in Safe Mode (with Networking) and ran Malwarebytes scan, which identified some items; removed, re-booted and the virus screen reappeared. Tried again in Safe Mode and ran Full scan; more items, after removal and re-boot, same screen. Tried Safe Mode a third time and tried to open Emisoft IExplore; after a few screen flickers, the IC3 screen block appeared again, in Safe Mode. Now everytime i try to open Safe Mode with Networking the IC3 screen block appears. Any advice at all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I recently installed a new modem and router, and the internet has been fine for these past few days, but starting today, the internet on one computer has completely stopped working. It's an HP computer a few years old running Windows XP. We have Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox on this computer. When I attempt to open Firefox, the hourglass appears next to the mouse pointer for a split second, disappears, and nothing opens. When I attempt to open Internet Explorer, it opens after a few seconds, but the bar at the top of the screen only says "Connecting..." and never changes. If I attempt to do ANYTHING in Internet Explorer, it says "Not Responding", and must be closed. Also, When Internet Explorer is opened, a message pops up asking whether I would rather restore my previous session, or go to my home page, but both options lead to the same result. All signs on the computer point to the fact that it is connected to the Wifi network and that everything is good, but this happens every time. I have tried restarting the computer, and running a virus scan, neither have worked. Anyone know what is wrong? I'm usually pretty good with computers but this one has me completely stumped. Thanks in advance!

I will move to networking

have you tried a restore to before the problem started

choose a date before the problem started

also try safe mode - tap F8 as the PC starts and choose "safemode with networking" and see if that works OK

When I attempt to open Firefox, the hourglass appears next to the mouse pointer for a split second, disappears, and nothing opens. Click to expand...

try in firefox safe mode
Start>
Programs>
Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)>
Firefox should start up with a Firefox Safe Mode dialog.

It maybe the firewall blocking access - turn that off - what is the firewall you are using

to see if you are actually connected to internet do the following

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> in the RUN box
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + ... Read more

I have a friend who has problems with her internet, She lives in the country (close to the farms), And she just changed from her cable internet to Fiber Optic (the same internet provider).
She has a Netgear router wireless G, (she does not have modem) She has 2 Pc (Desktop and laptop) and one MAC, both of the Pcs work with Windows 7, and the mac with Leopard.
Anyway her internet provider says she has interference for that reason she lose signal sometimes, but my question is this....
I understand that her laptop and maybe Mac which are far away from her router lose signals (they are around 30feet) but her desktop computer which is always connected by twisted pair cable with RJ45, they should not lose connection because they are always connected from the router, but sometimes it does lose signal, unless.... the Internet provider lose signal.. and make her lose signal...

She says when that happens, she need to turn all the computer off and turn them on again.. and sometimes that works and give her internet again, but not all the time.

The main problem is her Mac that has more often disconnections, her mac is connected next to her TV which is a cable tv.

I am just wondering what can she do?
Is it the Internet Provider or is something in her house causing interference?

The internet provider says it is something in her house causing the problem and is trying to make her buy Network Extender which "result" her problem.

But if it was her internet provider the problem,... Read more

I just updated to Windows 10 but I think the problem was with Windows 8 too, Sometimes my internet is out on my PC while the internet is still up on my brothers PC, tho this problem happens about 3 times a very few days.. We have 5+ computers in the house and 4 are on daily while 3 is being used daily the 4th one is not very used daily and sometimes off most of the time. So the 2 computers have Windows 10 and 3rd computer has Windows 7 while the 4th computer has Windows 10 also. I read on an article which says that Windows 10 uses bandwidth without you know and I checked task manager and on windows 8 my CPU and Memory was just fine and when I upgraded to Windows 10 my CPU spiked to about 20% and Memory spiked to about 72% and sometimes random numbers appear on all 4 sections( CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).

So how can I fix this problem or is it just Windows 10?

Hi guys, I have a question about what internet provider me and my family should go with? Why I ask is that we're moving soon, and in the new area we are going to live our current Internet Provider Virgin Media is not currently available there.

And the options we have is to go with Sky or BT. The best suited package we want is Unlimited Broadband with a adequate speed and Unlimited Day/Night Unlimited weekday and weekend calls, and basic tv.

We have found that Sky offers basic TV with Variety Package + Unlimited broadband up to 16mb + Unlimited UK Calls of total cost of 31 or 26 for all above except broadband is 8Mb at a download cap of 40GB.

BT's package consists of Unlimited weekend/evening calls and Day Calls 4p per minute UK + Broadband speed of 8MB but Wi-Fi connections have a limit of 250 Mins a month and a download cap of 10 GB + all gold value TV packages and free Setanta sports package. All that for 46.47 a month (expensive or what)

Questions I have about Sky:
*Will I ever use the download cap of 40GB if I went for the 8MB speed and is this broadband capable of multiple pc's of 4.
*Will I be able to play most on-line MMO's and FPS games with minor lag?
*Finally if we went for unlimited broadband of 16mb is there any hidden download cap rates?

Questions I have for BT:
*Will I and the rest of the family use download cap of 10GB a month. I know my family and I download a fair bit of files and documents abit I think we might exceed it.

A:NEW INTERNET PROVIDER

Hi, Nat.

Look above where the buttons for New Post and Reply are. Just below that, you'll see a link to your profile. Go in there and change the address. You will almost immediately get an email from TSG with a new password. Once you get that, go into your profile with the new password. Then, change the password to whatever you like.

Does anyone out there have a preference on dial up internet providers? Any complaints? I am thinking of changing providers but do not know which way to go to get the best connection speed and support.

A:Internet provider

This is usually a matter of price versus performance issue. The one caveat is whether they provide decent tech support when things go wrong. My only input is using someone who has stability in the ISP market. My old ISP was bought and sold four times in less than a year. During this time someone at one of the entities took it upon themselves to sell all the e-mail address's in their database. I knew since I started to receive tons of spam to an unlisted / unused e-mail address that I had set up only for test purposes.
