Security Application unable to start

Q: Security Application unable to start

At boot I get a dialog box with the title "Security Application", the text "Security Application was unable to start. Do you want to repair the installation". There are Yes and No buttons. Neither button seems to do anything. Click Yes and you get an option to uninstall but it doesn't work.

This doesn't seem to have any other effects but is just a pain.

Preferred Solution: Security Application unable to start

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Security Application unable to start

sounds like you've got some sort of spyware or virus. try running a virus/spyware scan with your anti-virus program. if it finds and cleans the infection, reboot your computer and run the scan again to make sure you got it all.

At boot I get a dialog box with "Security Application was unable to start. Do you want to repair the installation?" with Yes/No buttons. Yes has the option to uninstall the application but doesn't seem to do anything. I've run Spybot, Adaware, Avast scan and even reloaded XP Pro but it won't go away. It doesn't seem to hurt anything other than the irritating dialog at boot.

Hi and Welcome,

Please do the following:

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.

Disable any script blocking protection
Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
Save both reports to your desktop.
---------------------------------------------------
Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.
NEXT

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable.

Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.

Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries [/QUOTE]

cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click ok to close the application

Anyone know why it happened?

I got this error when I tried to restart to install an update. However, in windows update, it showed I had nothing to update. There was the little yellow shield by the shut down button to indicate it was installing an update when I would shutdown.

I rebooted fine, and CMD works fine. Is it possible windows thought it had to install something, and the installer had already installed the update (I went onto windows update earlier myself to install the windows and silverlight updates) and it bugged because maybe it had to use cmd to execute the update or something?

A:cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly

It seems to be happening again, but only when I shutdown when explorer is open. I tried and tested his multiple times. It has only happened after the new silverlight update and kb 30247777 (sorry if the number is wrong) update.

What is causing this?

I deleted the old version of the program before I downloaded the new one. I loaded this program on another Windows 7 Pc and it works fine so I know the issue is with this computer. I have tried running in different compatibility modes and as an admistrator. I welcome any suggestions..

thanks

Hi grodskib

Your Download may be corrupted, I would download again and try installation, also did you download from the software makers home site ...

Also close any Windows programs and none essential applications running, this may include your Anti Virus for a short time in some cases.

My Win7 desktop picked up a virus a few days ago (since eradicated) and as a result can't open any of its applications. Even the screensaver generates the error message in the title. I've done a full virus scan, checked the Boot Configuration Data and attempted a Windows Restore - which failed to finish and generated yet another error (0x80070005).

I also ran the SFC scan, which determined that my iassdo.dll.mui file (one or more of its several copies, shown as six entries in the CBS log) is corrupted, but found nothing that looks like a global application blocker. I'd like to scan the registry for culprits, but can't run a registry fix tool for the same reason nothing else runs (0xc0000005).

One of the forum entries I came across suggested hunting out the registry entry LoadAppInit_DLLs and changing its value from 0 to 1. Sounds harmless enough, but I'd like a second opinion before I tinker with the registry. Would that have any chance of solving my problem? Is the corrupt iassdo.dll.mui file a worthy suspect? Is this a job for Rkill??

I eagerly await any insights from those of you who have confronted this particular gremlin before. Thanks!

A:Application(s) unable to start... 0xc0000005

Hi fgranlund, and a Happy New Year to you,
Have you run a scan with Malwarebytes as is often directed to check for any remaining infections ?

Now first step that you need to perform is to check your system files, and M/soft have provided simple methods to do this.
Start your computer and go Program files > Accessories > and find Command Prompt, Now, Right Click on it and select Run As Administrator.
It will bring up a black Command Prompt box. Type sfc /scannow (make sure there is a space between c and /) and then press Enter.
Do not do anything else while the program runs . This will take from 20 to 40 minutes to run and check installed files.

You can run Rkill if you wish, but I would also download and run CCleaner or TFC to remove Temp Internet Files. Do not adjust any of CCleaners settings, just run it as downloaded.

Let us know how things go.

Sorry for my english, i speak french better.

The ''very very slow'' cpu was the first problem (solved) THEN the next is .unable to start application .dll missing
So NOW.
I just solved it AND I want to post HOW i DID.

So NOW YOU can tell its SOLVED, right ??

There is :
The ORCAD dont want to open cause cdscommon.dll is missing. But it works good for ORCAD layout.

Searched on net and found :
http://www.cadence.com/Community/forums/t/20403.aspx

Look at my path settings on my system:
go to config panel\ system \ advanced \ env syst variables window

Add to PATH value:
The previous path value was:
%PROGRAMFILES%\Internet Explorer;

I added
%CDSROOT%\tools\bin;%CDSROOT%\tools\Capture;%CDSROOT%\tools\layout;

Then you get:
%PROGRAMFILES%\Internet Explorer;%CDSROOT%\tools\bin;%CDSROOT%\tools\Capture;%CDSROOT%\tools\layout;

Select modif and add it.

That works for me.

They asked to add it in the user level. I did on the system level. It works. Might try at user level.
Somhow something deleted the user level cdsroot and the path command...

Hello, every few days my computer seems to stop letting programs open. If I try to open a program like Firefox, for example, the window just never shows up.

Then trying to open the Task Manager gives me an error saying, "This application was unable to start correctly. Click OK to close the application."

I honestly can't think of what the problem could be. This is happening on a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit from about 3 weeks ago

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Hi!
Today, when I turned my computer on, it hung at the Welcome screen, so I did a bunch of stuff and managed to get past the screen. However, now nothing opens; if I try to open, say, Firefox, it would say:

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000006)."

The same thing happens in safe mode.

I tried sfc/scannow, chkdsk, and the Windows repair, all to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thank You,

I just installed Windows 8.1 on a second hard-drive so that I can dual-boot between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

I reinstalled all of my programs, games, etc and everything is absolutely amazing. Windows 8.1 is actually really fast!

Anyways... Everything is working great except 1 thing! I have a standalone .exe (requires no installation, so there's no direct connection to an OS via registry or anything) that will NOT open on Windows 8.1

If I attempt to open it on my Windows 8.1, I get the error "The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)"

but on my Windows 7, it works just fine..

I've done a LOT of research on this and I've read just about every article linked to this issue online and nothing has worked.

Here's what I've done..

1. Re-installed Visual C++. I did for every year, i.e. 2005, 2008, 2010, etc.

2. Replace the 5 DLL's for Visual C++ while in Safe-Mode and then restart.. I was only able to replace 4 of them, the last one was giving me permission troubles for some reason. It was called "msvcr100_clr0400.dll"

3. Run a debugger (WinDbg) and use Application Verifier to try and pinpoint the problem. Tried this, but the program doesn't boot far enough to gather any information, and I can't really understand what WinDbg throws at me.

4. Use Dependency Walker to see if it points you to a DLL. When I use Dependency Walker, it has very minimal results.

To be exact:

Error 0X0000005 is "access denied" which implies somehow the ownership got messed up. Probably the Program Files folder. With all the installs things may be confused. Try right clicking on Program Files folder and clicking Take Ownership. If the selection is not there see this:

Take Ownership Shortcut

Naturally before doing anything make a restore point and/or back up Registry (google ERUNT) and/or do an image backup of your system if you have an external drive to store the image.

I checked other applications to see whether this affected all exe files. Other applications ran EXCEPT Corel Draw x8. I used Corel Draw a couple of weeks ago and it was OK.

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

I could still open up folders by going from another route such as control panel or from my desktop, but if I try to open it up where I pinned it on the Task Bar, that message hops up. I've looked up this error over and over and there's a 1000 "fixes" and none of them have worked for me.

Situation: Four years ago I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium Pack, which was a disk set with four licenses. I installed three of them on my wife's laptop, my laptop, and my desktop, all 32bit. I saved the 4th license for later.

Over the last year, many of my main software packages I've been using have dropped 32 bit in favor of 64. They are all related to Video editing. So I purchased a new 2TB hard drive and installed it in my desktop as a second boot drive. F12 on power up gives me the option to boot from my old 32bit drive or the new drive. I installed my final license on the new drive with a 64 bit version of Win7 Ultimate.

I then installed Adobe's Creative Suite CC, and it's programs seemed to work perfectly (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photo Shop, Etc.) But then I installed BlackMagic Design Resolve Lite and the problems began. When I double click on the icon, I get the error in the thread title: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)

At first I thought it was just a problem with this particular piece of software, but I received my new Autodesk 3d Studio Max yesterday, and when I try to start it, I get the same error. So I decided to check some other programs, and I found that Adobe Lightroom gives this error.

Secondly, I don't know how you got a license key from Windows Home Prem 32bit to install Windows 7 ultimate 64bit system . That is never supposed to work.
Thirdly, maybe it was a wording bluder but you made reference to a 32bit drive and another drive you eluded to being 64bit. HDD's are not 32bit or 64bit, Maybe you were just referring to the OS software installed on them. I just tend to be more precise in my wording as word can easily mislead.

Hello,

I have this infamous error. I already googled a lot, but solutions worked. I'm trying to run opencpn.exe program, and get this error. This program worked before. Tried reinstalling, but nothing changed (even with different version of the program).
Therefore, error must be somewhere else.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

What I tried:

chkdsk C: /r (no errors found)
sfc /scannow (found some errors, but unable to fix)
reinstalling Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 C++ Redistributable x86 (Control Panel shows that I also have 2005 and 2008 versions, x64).
reinstalling .net framework 3.5 and 4.0
fixing registry with CCleaner

I have turned off Windows Restore, but anyways, I wouldn't know when to restore to, since last I checked that program was more than few months ago.

Problem still persists. I don't want to reinstall Windows just for this one thing.

Could someone please help me out?

Hi guys.

Now I know there have been MANY threads in relation to this ridiculous error but I have gone through all of them and tried all things. At least I think I have.

I have run Windows Repair Environment.
I have repaired/reinstalled C++, framework, DirectX.
I have downloaded the correct DLL files and gone into safe mode and place them in the Wendows/System32 files manually.
Even done the ChKDsk thing and it came up clean.

I have a fresh install of Windows as I recently had my HDD fail. I'm now running on a Samsung EVO 840 512GB SSD. However I had this issue before the migration took place.

I have no idea where to go from here. I am LOST! I would greatly appreciate your help with this one.

Cheers

I think we need a lot more data to be able to have any hope of proper diagnosis - and I also think you may have made mistakes with your handling of the dll problems you mention.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the whole CBS folder (C:\Windows\logs\CBS) (compressed, please!) to your OneDrive or DropBox Public folder, and post a link.

Have you tried download a fresh copy of firefox and uninstalling/reinstalling? Is that the only program it happens with?

Run a system file scan and report back the results

I'm trying to run an application called MySQL Workbench which has been working perfectly fine up until last week which now displays the error message below.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail and talking to the Microsoft support helpline I'm passed from department to department with no resolution.

I need this to do my uni coursework, I'm at my wit's end

A:Windows 10 0xc00000e5 application unable to start correctly

I believe 0xc000005e means that the initialization of in this case most likely a prerequisite failed what would mean that one or more programs that are required are either corrupted or not proper installed.
I do also have MySQL Workbench, but I'm not 100% sure what programs are required. I reinstalled it a short time ago, but I installed Visual Studio before it what could be the reason why no prerequisite programs were extra installed (they were installed when Visual Studio was installed).

I suggest to remove the software from Microsoft, like
Microsoft .NET Framework,Microsoft SQL Server,Microsoft Visual C++
and MySQL Workbench, download a new installation and try to install again.

Hello, I am trying to repair my son's HP G60-235DX laptop which recently began getting error messages when attempting to open .exe files. I have researched other sites and this forum and tried the following:
Edit registry per link: Can't open .EXE files in Windows 7 or Windows Vista
Run chkdsk /f /r
Check memory for errors using system utilities
Nothing is working. When I try to open any .exe file, I get this error message.
I cannot open IE or Firefox, so cannot access internet to download any fix utilities.
I have created a bootable CD and tried to restore to a previous point in time, but get messages that restore failed to extract D:\Windows\inf\asp.net\000A\aspnet_perf2.ini from the restore point and that restore point was damaged or deleted during restore procedure. Now restore points don't appear as available any longer. I have checked the logs and find the 0xc000005 message appearing with faulting app firefox.exe and faulting module xul.dll as well as faulting app qp.exe and faulting module _cdplayer.dll, so it appears there may be an issue with dll's. The antivirus installed on laptop is AVG 2013, but I can't even open that to scan for virus or malware. I can boot to CD, but it doesn't appear that I can access anything on C: drive. BTW: I did try to revert to an earlier version of IE before 10, but it appears that either no earlier version is available to revert to or it is corrupt and won't open. I'm a noob when it's something related to computers and i'm completly lost, i made some research and in some forums the solution had something to do with symantec or .NET framework but i don't have anything installed from symantec and i have the latest .NET framework installed still i can't get rid of this annoying error. I don't know if this is relevant but there was a time when i updated the computer and installed service pack 1 for windows 7 those applications worked for a little while but the error appeared again. As i said i'm completly lost and don't know what to do, if you have any idea of what is causing this error, well you know what to do >.< .

I've been going crazy the past week about this error. I've searched every post out there for a solution to this problem but every step I take to solve it seems to fail at one point also most of the other posts seem to have slightly different problems.

It all started about a week ago when I was trying to run Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 when it gave me that error. I tried uninstalling but it would give me an error as well. I noticed that the main error I'm complaining about only appears with most of the programs/games I use but not all of them.

For example the following programs/games don't work anymore and show me that error( Windows media player classic/VLC/Assassins Creed/Max Payne/ PES 2012/2013 and so much more)

Although some other programs/games did work such as (Google chrome/Windows media player/ccleaner).

I also noticed that when I try to download anything from google chrome it would be blocked and fail.

What I tried to do:
============

1- I ran a full system scan via Microsoft security essentials and I was free of any viruses/malware/trojans.

2- Downloaded ccleaner and fixed all registry errors.

3- I ran windows diagnostics to check for faulty Ram or HD and both were good.

4- Tried installing malwarebytes which was successful but every time I would run the program it wouldn't open giving me a (malwarebytes error 339 ieframe.dll)

5- Combofix also wasn't able to run by the (0xc0000005) error.

6- I also tried to boot up in safe mood ... Read more

It sounds like you are getting Access Denied. Usually indicates a UAC error or that the program needs to be run As Administrator. You don't indicate the state of your UAC. Also please see below:

Hi all,

PC was running fine and shut down correctly. Came to switch it back on and get the above error message on just about every application I click on. No errors on booting up to the Desktop though. Same problem whether it is a shortcut or the actual .exe file. Seems not to affect the 64 bit applications but all 32 bit applications will not start. Even clicking a .pdf document gives this error. Also seems that some Windows stuff is not working properly. For example I can access the Device Manager by clicking its icon directly in the Control Panel but not by clicking it from a a link in a different Control Panel section (just does not respond to the click).

System is Windows 7 X64. Last Windows update ran 3 days ago so I don't think t has anything to do with that?

I ran Bit Defender Anti Virus (up to date virus definitions, paid for version) and it ran OK as it is a 64 bit app and it did not find anything on the virus front. I don't think is is a virus. Also ran C Cleaner a few times. I have not tried a system restore yet but nothing new has been installed, only a Steam update ran in the previous session.

Any ideas welcome, a reformat is too much to consider right now Please help!

PS: I Google'd this and others reported similar issues about a year back and it was attributed to a bad Windows update back then.

A:Error: the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005).

If it was my computer after checking for infection which you have done. I would use the restore point. Then I would run
sfc /scannow as per this tutorial by Brink.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

The problem does have the smell of a infection or a PUP.
You could also run Malwarebytes.

No security program finds 100% of everything 100% of the time.

Then check Windows Updates.
If it gives new updates install them one at a time and verify no problems.

P/S: What big case do you have?

I have a problem that occurs only during shut down only. When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

Suggestions would be appreciated. Eric

A:the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Occurs during shut down

It might be a program running some extra stuff.

Try a clean boot to disable all programs that run at startup.
Then shut it down to see if the issue re-appears, I thinking it probably won't, from that point you can try to narrow it down to one program by enabling them 1 by 1 on the startup/services tab on the msconfig.
