IE11 records files I open on computer.History can open file!

Q: IE11 records files I open on computer.History can open file!

I had started a thread earlier here, called "Cannot change name of New Folder. Can't add Search Provider".

Well, I reset the system to a System Restore that was quite old, and the renaming of folders problem seems to have gone away (at least for now). However, what is really bothering me is that IE11 is keeping track of every file I open on my computer, and when I click on the entry in History, it opens the file!

I have disconnected the computer from the internet, but desperately need help in terms of what to do!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to know about an error that happens on IE11 in WIndows7.

When I open html5 files, an error window with the message below shows up, and IE11 is forced to shut down.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Internet Exporer has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This error occurs as a Windows or IE11 error outside of JavaScript engine.

The name of the module where the error occurs is ?mshtml.dll?.

There is a problem within the loadManifest function contained in html5 files.
But the loadManifest is a common processing by CreateJS(PreloadJS) - JavaScript library provided by Adobe Inc. Moreover, no JavaScript error is found in this case.

Also, the error has been found only in the html5 files that contain both images and sounds.
I have never seen this error in the html5 files with images only, or sounds only, or none of them.

Is this error on IE11 specific to Windows7?

Or can it be happened in Windows8.1 or Windows10 if I use IE to open html5 files?
Also, can it be happened on Edge in Windows10?

Hello all,
im trying to make IE11 auto-open a specific file extension .tsv with a custom app we have.
currently, users need to download the file and then click open to launch the custom app (the .tsv extension is already associated with the custom app and it opens properly).

is there a way to allow a specific extension to launch an app automatically?
thanks,

Hey folks,

I've tried posting about this to the Microsoft forums, but I seem to be getting little help there. (Link)

Running Windows 8 Pro x64 as a Domain User with full Admin privileges, I am unable to use File History. I cannot open/start the File History tool. When I attempt to click on it from the Control Panel, nothing happens. When I try running it from the Metro search tool, it switches to the desktop and nothing loads. I've also tried in the Action Center, under Maintenance, "File History is Off. Turn On." Clicking "Turn On" does nothing.

All other items under the Control Panel that I have tried open and work with no problems.

I also tried in a "clean boot" according to a suggestion from the Microsoft forum

System file checker reported no errors.
Any ideas? This is really bugging me

Edit: I just noticed in Control Panel there is "Windows 7 File Recovery". If I launch that and try to set up a Windows 7-style backup, it seems to work. I suppose I could just use this older tool instead of the new File History, although I haven't researched the differences.

Edit 2: I have another machine with the same version of Windows 8, and I am able to launch File History with no problems. I click File History from control panel and am taken to another screen that allows me to enable it. No such screen on the problem machine. The only main difference is the working machine is a regular user account; whereas, the non workin... Read more

Hi,
I work for a firm where we are heavily reliant on an Excel Shared Workbook.
We've always had problems with it, but have managed to fix these issues by using the Computer Management tool to remove users who are locking the file.

Recently however, the Computer Management isn't displaying users correctly.
For example, this morning I went to Computer Management > Shared Folders > Open Files to check who was locking the file and it only displayed one user. I looked around the office and could see at least another 5 people with this file open, including
myself, however our names were not displaying in the Open Files screen.

Can anyone help me understand why the Computer Management has stopped showing all of the users connected to the file?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi all, I'm new here and sure could use some help. Somehow I was infected with a nasty virus, but I think I managed to clean it up, or at least I think so. However, now I cannot do many things on my computer. I can't upload files to email, I can't change the wallpaper or screensaver on my computer, I can't open any .exe files, and most programs will not open.

I've tried many internet searches for these problems and tried to run various scans and registry fixes, but nothing seems to work. I'd really rather not use the repair install cd but I'm afraid I might have to.

So, it seems to me that files are corrupted and something is blocking me from using my computer. It is very frustrating and I could sure use your advice. Thank you.

Base on my lab machine (Windows Server 2008 R2 DC, Windows 8.1 client). either domain admin user or domain standard user, they all work fine.
What's your environment? Did this issue occur on all domain user or specific one?
In some cases, File History may conflict with the enterprise policies (like retention policy). I suggest you contact your IT admin to see if there is some other policy to limit this.

The title question pretty much asks it all.

I have a desktop running win 8.1 pro and use File History to create backup of libraries etc to an external drive.

My wife has a laptop running Windows 7 on the network and part of a Homegroup. I wold love to be able to backup some of her files to the same external hard drive using File History, but I don't think this is possible, or if it is I haven't figured out how.

I have included her relevant folders in a library shared with me and visible in Homegroup, but File History does not seem to be able to back it up since the files themselves reside on another computer.

Of course I can physically copy her files to the backup drive periodically, but I like how File History runs quietly in the background.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

A:Solved: Can Win 8.1 File History back up files from a networked computer?

The short and to the point answer is NO
She can of course use Windows 7 backup and restore and choose which files to backup - rather than allowing windows to choose - as the latter also creates the image - and she can of course backup to the same external as you

This is a weird problem I've not seen before and I could use some help or someone to point me in the right direction. I searched the forum with no luck.
I'm assuming this is an issue related only to my machine and not an IE7 problem.
:-(

When I click on this link (or one in similar format on the same page), the new window will initially begin to open. Then the new browser instance is redirected to another site....which seems fine & the page switches to the new address, then suddenly the window disappears and the "File Download-Security Warning" box appears and asks if I want to save the file or find a program online to open it with:
Program Name: browserRedirect
Type: Unknown File Type
From: ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net

Clicking on "Find" takes me to the Windows File Association web page where it says that windows does not recognize this MIME type.

Here's the actual link:

If I need to register a file type, I don't where to start! I scrolled through all the file types in My Computer and honestly, I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Could this be related to some corrupted mime file or something?

WOw. Weird problem going on here. I have no idea what may have caused this, but anyway, basically what is happening here is that now whenever I double click a music file from my "my music" folder nothing happens. It goes to the little hourglass thingy like its thinking for a split second and then nothing happens. The file won't open.

So this was pissing me off. I have no idea why I can't open my music files in a simple manner any longer.

The other thing is that they will open fine if WMP (my default player) is already open. If WMP is just sitting there in the background and I double click an audio file it opens without a problem, but if nothing is open and I double click on an MP3 it does nothing.

What's Going On Here???

I'm running Windows 10, and Excel 2013. I just upgraded to Win 10. Before I did so, I had no problems at all with Excel. Now that I've upgraded to Win 10, Excel no longer remembers my "recently opened workbooks".

I have gone to file/options/advanced numerous times, and, under "display", clicked on "show this number of recent workbooks" and also clicked the check box next to "quickly display this number of recent workbooks".

Each time I do that, while I am still using Excel, the display of recent workbooks is what I want. But invariably, after closing Excel, after I log off, then restart Windows, the next time I start Excel the check box is blank and there are no recently opened workbooks at all on the Excel start page!

Anyone have any clues what's wrong or how to make Excel do what I want?

Thx.

I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.

Any ideas what is happening?

Long story short, I had installed a trial version of CA anti virus, but many problems ensued thereafter. Hence attempted uninstalling and that did not work. Hence, I attempted the long method of cleaning up the registry and the associated files in the system32. one file in particular that needed to be deleted upon reboot is Vetredir.dll (as per many forms that suggested this!). Indeed this file had the CA company logo on it. and I used HiJack to remove it upon reboot.

Now, everything went to hell. When XP reboot it does not load up the Desktop after entering the user name and password. I know the PC is not hung up because I can call the task manager. But as soon as I try to issue any command, nothing happens!

Tried to reboot on Safe Mode, and I surely get farther. I can load my desktop but still cannot open any files... in fact it seems that Windows is unable to locate any file when navigating with its GUI.

My question is: can I back up all my info using USB external drive from Safe Mode Command Prompt? If yes please assist. What are the commands to use to enable USB Flash in Safe Mode? After backing up all my info, I plan to reformat the PC....

Thanks all in advance!

I am searching for recommanded free open source software, that handles open pgp encryption.
I do not know what to call the software, so instead I will describe it.

I am looking for software, that can make open pgp keys, import public keys, and encrypt and decrypt open pgp encrypted files. Not as part of an email client, like thunderbird and enigmail.
If you fx have received an open pgp encrypted file, encrypted using your own public key, you
should be able to decrypt the file.
Same way, you should be able to open pgp encrypt a file on your computer, using an imported public
key, and then send the file.
Like axcrypt, but using open pgp keys.

Thanks.

You will to do a dual test:
if one is true then exit

your code ....
FullFileName1="G:\Business Groups\BBP Costing Log\New costing Log\mainsheet.xls""
FullFileName2="G:\Business Groups\BBP Costing Log\New costing Log\mainsheet1.xls"

PPS attachments in email will not open but will open from desktop. Get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program , or if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs in control panel." Control panel default program shows Power Point Viewer 2007 is the default program associated with it. Why will it open from desktop but not from an email?

My problem is that when i have selected, lets say 3 .txt or .xls files and right-click on them and choose open nothing happens? I can right-click one file and choose open and it will open. It is just when i have selected multiple files to open that nothings happens.

The thing is that i have some collegues that have the same installation as i have and they can do it, any ideas what could be causing this problem for me?

Thx in advance

I have this problem too. Previously I could highlight (example) six text files, right click, choose open and voila! they all opened. Now I'm forced to open them one by one. Hope you can help.

After virus removal IE not able to open save or open files from the web.

- I have ran malwarebytes, awdcleaner, comboxfix, and tdsskiller.
- I have check settings in IE to make sure downloading was enabled
- all other browser work fine ... chrome, firefox
- I have taken IE off the machine by turning off IE in windows services via uninstall programs, rebooted and ran ccleaner, then re-enabled IE...still cannot download and save files
- I have rest IE...still same issue.

The only thing other thing I have found online regarding this is that IE may have lost it admin rights or something like that. have any of you ran across this issue before?

Hello lawrance,
Generally this is my full I.E. Reset directions >>
This should be done with Internet Explorer open (even if you are having problems with it), not Firefox / Chrome or another browser.

Click Tools or the Gear icon at the top of the browser > Go down the list to click on Internet Options > Go across to the last tab that should be Advanced >  Click on Advanced and then Reset (near the bottom) > You should get a Confirm box pop up > Tick Delete Personal Settings and now Reset.
This last part may be where the infection changed things -

While there > Go back to Connections Tab, and down to LAN Settings. Open this and check that the only box ticked is Automatically Detect Settings, and untick any others. Click OK >Apply if you changed anything and OK again.

Back to the General Tab and make sure your Home Page is entered correctly in the box. Re-set it if not, clock Apply and OK to close out
Once the settings have all been reset, Close that box. Close any other open boxes. Now close I.E. and Reboot your computer.

Let us know if this helped -

so, now, to today. got home, i turned on my comp and encountered the same "files won't open, start menu content won't load" problem but when i went to do a system restore using 3 of the 4 restore points from aug. 14, since all the others were gone and those were the only ones left, the problem still existed.

Most Registry Repair programs sometimes do more damage then they fix. Go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow and hit enter. The Windows Protection window will open. It may ask for your Windows XP CD. It will now replace any corrupted files that it needs

If you have the installation CD for the operating system try doing a repair installation. This will not affect your data.Boot the computer from the XP CD. You may need to change boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. To setup Windows XP now and Repair Install , press ENTER. You do not want to choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R.Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair isn't one of the option end the installation, this will mean that you will need to do a fresh installation of XP.The repair will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot, the repair installation will continue after the reboot.

Actually I'm trying to do exactly what is proposed here, and file history is not behaving as expected. I restored a full image I took a few months ago, which worked great. When I tried to restore the intervening file history, though, it only sees the three month old restore point, and gives me no option to restore the more recent files I can see are on the history drive. I could move them by hand but they now have the dates appended to the file names, and it will be a huge task.

Any ideas to get file history to see the more recent files on the history drive?

A:get file history to see more recent files on history drive

When you restored File History lost the cross references for the newer "changes". You can only do it manually, All you have to do is go to the last known or good date in File History's files and use copy & replace. If you have 7Zip you can even set it up in dual panel to navigate easier.:

I'm having a problem opening a text file in Documents that I wrote using Open Office.

It's extension is .wps. I get a message it opens with swriter.exe.

When I try to open the text file, I get a long list of titles, such as: Open Office.org 1.0 Text Document, PSD - Adobe Photshop, etc., but I don't get the text file I wrote.

I recently did Disk Cleanup and Error Checking, so I might have removed a program I needed to click open and read my Open Office text files.

Advice would be appreciated.
