Preferred Solution: How to lengthen the period of Windows7 Activation? Only lasts 3 days?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:How to Extend the Windows 7 RC Activation Trial Period Up to 120 Days

This is really old news.
It's been more than 120 days since the RC version was available ... And there's a newer version anyway.
It's time to purchase a legal version now ... Even though it doesn't run as fast as the RC version

There's been an update .. And I'm not sure re-arming will work now anyway.

hey guys, i came across this a little while ago: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/875-activation-trial-period-extend-up-120-days.html it says if i run that command Windows7 evaluation period will be extended by 30 days each time it's done. however, when i do it it only extends for 3 days. is there any way to make it last longer or has it changed?

thanks

A:Extending Evaluation Period for 120 days.. only extends for 3 days?

If you have a valid copy of windows 7 with a legit COA sticker and can activate it without problems i dont see any need to even have an evaluation period. If your copy of windows 7 isnt valid and the COA sticker isnt anygood id suggest you buy a proper copy of windows 7 with a legit COA sticker and go from there.Because eventually it wont work anymore and you will be locked out of the computer.

As I understand it, with the new anniversary update after 10 days one will get disk space back relating to Windows.old being deleted automatically (if PC is left idle for a while).

i also believe that if a PC upgrades to Windows 10 then the new anniversary update wouldn't be offered until 30 days have elapsed. However with the aforementioned change to 10 days for rolling back the anniversary update I wonder if that now also rings true for previous 10586/TH2 build? We got a new mini PC approx 10 days ago, Windows 10 was pre installed but it was a really old build, pre 10586/TH2. I checked for updates and it immediately set about updating to last novembers 10586. However I am now confused as to whether I need to wait 10 days or 30 days for Windows update to offer it the new Anniversary update. I am totally happy to wait for Windows update to do its thing rather than use MCT etc, just curious about the timescales involved given MS has changed from 30 to 10 on the latest version

cheers, Wayne

I maintain some software that makes a tcp socket connection to a different piece of software and sends data back and forth (pretty basic stuff there). We use boost asio to handle reading and writing of data over the socket connection. We have a client that
has deployed this software on Windows7. The client has been having issues with our software not being able to maintain a reliable socket connection. One thing I have noticed is that quite often the networking callback are receiving the error: The semaphore
timeout period has expired.

This error is not coming from anywhere in our code (or the boost code). I've done some research on it and I found a Microsoft Knowledge base article on this error for Windows XP (support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/325487). I've seen a few people ask questions about
this error on Windows7, but they're all in regards to moving files to different drives, nothing regarding network connections.

What does this error mean in regards to Windows7? Does the knowledge base article I mentioned still apply to Windows7?

Every Vista DVD includes the ability to install any edition of Vista without a product key. When you install without a product key, you get an automatic 30 day evaluation period. This probably isn't news to anyone. What may be news to you, however, is that you can easily extend the 30-day Windows Vista grace period to 120 days. No hacks required. This is an official, supported operation directly from Microsoft. To extend the grace period another 30 days, simply start a command prompt as Administrator, and issue this command: slmgr -rearm Reboot for the change to take effect, and voila, you have 30 more days. You can only extend three times, so the total grace period for a Vista evaluation is 120 days. Source: Pctorium.com

When you try to boot XP a page should open with Let's Activate Windows at the top. There should be three options, Yes, let's activate Windows now over the Internet, Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and you have already precluded the other option. Once you have a valid product code click on the option that you wish to use and it should prompt you through the process.

Where are you getting the product code from?

If you've been using the 30-day version of Microsoft Office 2010, here's a nice tip for you: the testing period can be extended for up to six months. Much like Windows, the popular productivity suite contains a so called rearm function that gives you 30 extra days to activate the program. The command can be used up to five times, and if used at the end of each 30-day grace period, you can run Office 2010 for up to 180 days without entering an activation key.

A:Grace period activation expiring very soon-need new key or help

You have a KMS Volume License Key for Enterprise - such Keys require activation at private servers, not at MS's public servers.

From where did you get this Key? You need to contact your System Admin for assistance.

You will lose NO data when it goes out of grace period - but MSE will start a 30day countdown if installed, and cease working at the end.

Hi. I bought Windows 7 64bit home edition on a disk with my new Novatech pc over a year ago, and it successfully activated. Until 30 days ago it ran fine. Then the Windows not genuine pop got going with a link for activating online. I used slmgr /dlv which showed that the computer thinks my Windows is in its 'grace period', on a countdown from 30 days to 0 (tomorrow!).

Any suggestion, anyone? Here's what did NOT work:

Online activation (nothing happens)

Phone activation

Microsoft support - phoned them.
They talked me through a few things that did not work, then gave up.

Hello Everyone,
Of course I'm typing this post on my laptop that came pre-installed with vista home premium 32-bit installed on it. A short time ago I stumbled across a site on the internet that offers free software to change older computers that are running older operating systems ( like mine ) into a chromium o.s. that comes installed on newer chromebook computers. At the time I thought this sounded interesting, so I thought I'd try it out. BOY was I wrong for even remotely ever considering it !! I downloaded the transformation software..I followed the installation instructions exactly..( the software MUST be installed via usb drive ). Of course I was informed before I started the procedure that " everything on my hard drive would be deleted ", which at the time didn't bother me. That's where I went wrong..in the fact that I hadn't done a system backup in case something went wrong..which it DID. To keep a long story shorter, I essentially had to start from scratch on my laptop. Anyway, I was FINALLY able to get a copy of vista home premium SP2 32-bit from a forum member in here. The operating system did install ok, but when I checked to see if my copy of windows was 'activated' it wasn't.I feel like I haven't done anything illegal..I just wanted to get my laptop running again. A:3 days until Automatic Activation?

As this is a genuine copy I would personally not wait for the automatic activation to take place but would select the activate now option.

If you wait for the automatic option and something goes wrong - either at your end or Microsoft's - then it could cause you some inconvenience, such as watermarks and loss of functionality and the need to possibly call Microsoft to activate manually.

Problems are not likely but I feel it is better to not chance this

Hello,
I want to know the best practice for REFERECE image windows 7
My server kms is  AUTO_DISCOVERY  if I build my reference image windows 7 on this network and I take ghost (image state before running sysprep), the image is auto actived
After I deploy with sysprep and rearm-0 but problem appeared on kms server with account computer. if i want to fix it,  I read on this forum that we need to tape slmg-rearm just before sysprep computer ..
If I want no activation reference computer I need to shutdown the kms server or build the windows on another network without kms server but the reference computer is good for only 30days after i need to reinstall each time

What is the good solution ?
1- never activate my reference image and reinstall windows 7 each time I want to change setting
2- install windows 7 on the network auto discovery after sysprep with rearm=0 ???
reference image = just before tape sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown....

A:REFERENCE IMAGE 30 DAYS ACTIVATION kms

Hi,
1. You must do a sysprep before doing a ghost. Otherwise the CMID is not reset which can cause problem with KMS activation. And there is no need to activate your reference image.
2. Activation can be reset an unlimited number of times for an activated Key Management Service (KMS) clients. You can use the sysprep /generalize command where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 1 for the reference image. After capturing this
image, use the sysprep /generalize command, where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 0. But if you rebuild your reference image from scratch no need to worry about that.

Anybody who has been using the leaked preview of Office 2010 will get an activation message after 30 days-- and you can't activate it yet as it's not officially out.
It won't stop working however.

But since I downloaded Office Enterprise 2007 with the FREE Technet subscription on this site I'm not going to bother with it (unless it becomes available on the Free subscription). I'm actually quite happy with Office 2007.

Cheers

If your COA sticker is only for Windows Home Premium, than unless you purchased an Upgrade, that's all it's licensed for - and any other Windows install is counterfeit.

You need to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media - either the manufacturer's Recovery media, or a retail license for Windows 7 Ultimate (or the recovery media + an Upgrade Key)

An hour ago i tried my windows key, it didn't work. i just tried it then and now it's working.

Can someone please explain this to me.

Thanks alot gregrocker, you're a life saver!

A:3 Days Until automatic activation. Activate windows now.

Hi Matt -

Did you buy a copy of Win7 from your school? Is this a retail copy of Win7 or is it one which is activated by the school's IT department?

If it's a retail copy then with the Product Key you should have been given at purchase you can follow the steps in this link to Clean Install Windows 7. Be sure to boot the disk: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

If it's an organization's Enterprise copy, consult your School on how to activate it.

Ask back any questions you have as we will help you set it up so it runs perfectly.

I have a dell laptop with windows 7 Ultimate installed on it (Came preinstalled with laptop). Have been using since last 2 years.
2 days back I decided to upgrade to windows 10 (hey, free stuff ).
I selected Upgrade now option (Not iso/USB), it downloaded, did few things and started installing. While it was configuring (Big blue circle that comes) it failed at 5%. Mostly reason was C drive space was very less (8Gb free).
So it rolled back to windows 7. SO I decide to clear up some things, so uninstalled some stuff . got around 21GB in my C Drive now.
Restarted my machine and tried to install windows 10. But this time it somehow asked for Product Key (There is no SKIP option)
I went to system properties, to my surprise now it was showing 2 days till activation. I clicked on activate now and put my windows 7 ultimate key, but it did not accept.
Just did Genuine check on my windows , it said my copy of Windows is Genuine. But still it messed up with windows 7 license somehow. I am not getting call Support desk option anywhere, as some forums mention. Please help me.
Now I am stuck as I cannot upgrade. What are my options?
Below is the log file

A:Windows 7 showing 2 days for activation while upgrading to windows10

Hello rohit404404 Welcome to the Seven Forums!

I think you may want to stop by SF's sister site for some information and help regarding the upgrade while I can point you to one guide there that could be a large help for you in getting this problem cleared up. Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First

The guide there may just be able to bail you out of this one while you could still try either to enter the product key found on the sticker attached usually on the bottom of a laptop unless too new where it is embedded into the firmware where you then will need a product key tool to recover and enter it in with. That's found in any guide but from an independent source. ShowKeyPlus

If you are able to get 7 to activate itself again automatically or do have to call into MS to explain what happened and get 7 activated with help you can then save a lot of time and effort following the steps in the guide there seeing a clean install rather then sloppy often buggy upgrade type install! And the one thing most never realize is that they should have made a full system image backup before trying anything like this just in case.

I got a virus today. I ran avast, malwarebytes and super anti spy ware. (avast indicated the type of infection as a rootkitgen) They got rid of some but every time I restarted I would scan and avast or malware would find some new infection. Also, Right after my first scan/removal today with avast I restarted my computer and when my desk top was loading I got a message that said significant hardware changes were detected and I must activate windows in 3 days. After using the above security programs I was still getting redirected with firefox. Also, google crome did not work it just loaded to a blank page. Next I used TDSSKiller and it found 1 infection. Hi,

My PC worked good for about two years before it started making a very loud noise and eventually stopped working. Turns out the fan wasn't working on the graphics card GT230, which made it heat and get damaged, and the harddrive also was damaged.

They repaired it and replaced the GT230 with a GT430 and a new harddrive. It's working fine for now but I can sort of hear a bit of noise and when I feel the computer it is slightly trembling. Not as bad as before but it is.

So it has me worried: what if it does that again? What can I do to help prolong the life of my PC? I put it to sleep when it's not in use by my sister uses it almost all day for casual stuff like microsoft word, though I use it maybe an hour or so a day for gaming.

A:How to Lengthen the Windows Startup Sound

what do you mean by make it longer?

How about changing it instead? To another .wav file. Or better still convert an MP3 to WAV and use a song instead? That will give you 3 to 5 minutes for a start up sound.

I changed the start up and exit sounds on my system running Xp pro and the wavs are running approximately 20 to 30 seconds long. The system cuts off the sound way before finish . I used to be able to use these wavs for the same thing without loss of sound but now since I have this new machine , the start up wav starts like normal but cuts off as soon as machine is up....like 4 secs. Is there something I can do to lengthen space in between to prevent cutoff of wav so I can hear it in full?

Hello Everyone,
I have an on going ATA deployment, where the customer wants to know, the possibility of having the logs / event retained for 1 year and an approximate idea on the impact of storage and any limitations for MongoDB.
As per the ATA sizing tool and article the requirement of ATA center falls in the below specification.

Packets per second from all DCs

CPU (cores*)

Memory (GB)

Database storage per day (GB)

Database storage per month (GB)

IOPS**

400,000

12

96

120

3,600

2,000 (2,500)

So we have a approx. storage requirement of 3.6 TB per month, so how long are the logs/event on ATA center kept by default and can we change the retention period for the same.
Thank you,

Regards,
Iqbal Johar

Take a look at this Microsoft article describing how to activate Windows XP. You will need to activate it using the Internet or by phone: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890

I created my first backup set on March 31 with backup scheduled for 2pm every day. I was under the impression that after a certain number of backup files Windows would create a new backup set and I could delete the earlier one. However, here we are in August and windows is still adding daily backup files to the original March 31 backup set. I am attaching a screen capture - picture worth a thousand words!

Is this the way it's supposed to be?
Should I manually create a new backup set and delete the march 31 one? If yes, how?

A:Backup Set lasts forever

First obvious query to me is why are you backing up every day? But you have your reasons I guess.

Personally why not do them to an external drive? instead of cluttering the C: drive? See this

As for back up it might be an idea to image the system too mate

I bought a new Ideapad 500 in January (came with Win 10) and when I try to work without the AC adapter, the battery will only last about an hour and a half before I have to plug it back in.  The second I unplug it, it goes down to 94% battery life.  I have reset everything, closed things and it doesn't make any difference.  I took it back to Best Buy (I have the extended warranty as well) and they said that since it is an internal battery it will need to be sent back to Lenovo for replacement.  I have really enjoyed my new laptop, but this battery problem is very bothersome.  I use my laptop daily and to have it gone for over 2 weeks is troubling.  Any suggestions?

When I said "start" I didn't mean the part when you see the desktop...
I don't mean the boot neither.
I actually mean the part before you have to type a password. The very first part before a screen shows up...

So what does exactly affect the duration of this? Thank you

Hello all! I purchased a custom (added more RAM) Pavilion 17t laptop, and it arrived on Tuesday.  I really like it, except for the fact that the battery only stays charged for two hours - it takes two hours for it to fully charge when plugged in, I unplug and it takes two hours for the battery to deplete to 0. Both Windows and HP software is up to date, my screen is on 50%, battery saver is set to kick in when the battery hits 50%, location is turned off, I'm using Edge browser. Is this normal for a brand-new laptop? The battery diagnostic says the battery is "OK". It's 57 days old and has gone through 6 cycles out of 300. How long can I just leave the laptop plugged in? Does doing that hurt the battery? This is going to by my main computer, so I won't be moving it around too much. Leaving the screen on 50 is really too dark for me...at least with it plugged in I could increase that. Thanks for your help!

A:New Laptop's battery only lasts 2 hours

2 hours is not unusual for a 17 inch laptop. You do not give the model number but if you have an i7 processor, dedicated video card and both a hard drive and SSD plus an optical drive you have a lot going on. Batteries are slim now and do not have as many cells as they used to. You can leave it plugged in all the time. The battery is smart and will turn off the charging.
