Manual Windows Live messenger installation

Q: Manual Windows Live messenger installation

I would like to install Windows Live on Vista Business, Service Pack 1, and have obtained the only installer I could find from the official site. However, it installs to c: by default, and I see no options to change this setting. Since I use c: only for system files, I'd like to know if it's possible to manually install the program to another drive.

Preferred Solution: Manual Windows Live messenger installation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please refer to help and support for more information
Please close all other open programs, and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working. hr:0x80070643

I am using Vista on a Dell laptop. I did not open any program when i install it and i tried about 5 different installation file.

Many thanks for any help.

A:Problems with Windows live messenger 9.0 installation

You might have some left over installation file information in your registry. Try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove any old instances of Messenger and Visual Studios you find in the output list. Download the cleanup file and save. Then run as Administrator.

Sorry this might be a dumb question, but will my computer be ok if I opened live messenger and sent a few messges while windows update was being installed on full load on my HDD? I'm kinda worried it would cause some bugs or errors since there was lag when I was typing, opening windows etc wtih live messenger.

A:Using live messenger during windows update installation

Just personal opinion, and others may disagree. I prefer to let Windows Update and other "critical" operations like system images, creation of restore points, etc not have anything else going on in the background. Whenever system files are being accessed, read, or written to, I'd rather have all of my computer's resources concentrating on just that one task. But that's just me.

Downloaded Messenger 2011 onto my new computer recently; however, when I went to open it, it couldn't find the files it needed. Went searching for the program everywhere, nowhere to be found, not even on the Programs List. So, I decided, best thing to do would be to re-download it, but when the new installer opened, it said that the program was already installed, despite its apparent absence from the computer.
There is a similar problem with Adobe Flash - tried to re-download it, but it continues to believe it's on my system. Hopefully I explained the problem well :/

Any and all help appreciated.

I have had Windows Live Messenger installed for a long time and I used to use it a lot, but not so much recently. Tonight I opened it up to try to contact someone and it opened fine, but the window included a message telling me that there was a newer version available and asked if I wanted to get the newer version. I clicked "yes" and an installation process began. I had a choice of things to install, but the only item I selected was Windows Live messenger. The process seemed to take longer than what I would have expected, but I patiently waited until it reached 100% installed. Unfortunately a message appeared telling me that it could not install Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Toolbar (which I had not asked for) and the installation was aborted. It gave an error number 0x80004004 for the Windows Live Messenger and for the Windows Live Toolbar it said it was unable to uninstall an older version of Windows Live Toolbar.

So I figured I would just keep using the version that I had, only that version no longer works. When I click on the icon for Windows Live Messenger I get a message saying that it cannot locate Windows Live Messeger.lnk.

So I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and tried to remove Windows Live Toolbar, but there I got a message saying that it could not find WLToolbar.msi. I then did a "Search" of my hard drive and the search results came up with nothing.

So then I went to www.microsoft.com, searched for Windows Live Messenger, ... Read more

A:Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

I found an answer on another forum. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded a program named msicuu2.exe. When you install and run it, it displays a list of programs that have been successfully or unsuccessfully installed by a microsoft install program. You can then select one/all of those programs to remove. Although (at least in my case), it didn't really remove the software, it removed whatever it was that was keeping me from being able to install Windows Live Messenger. Everything is working fine now!

Please could anyone give me some technical advice or opinion.

My 14yr old daughter has a Dell Inspirion 4100 laptop (4 years old) running Windows ME with 1GB RAM P-III machine.

The unit has a single USB port with a 4 USB externally powered hub driving the following:
USB mouse, Modem to a BT Broadband line, the new webcam.

I installled a new "Creative Webcam Live" unit yesterday for her birthday. She uses MSN messenger on the internet using the broadband line and the webcam is intended to provide streamed live video images when chatting to her friends.

The installation did have problems and claimed some files could not be located but I search the c drive for the files required, found them all in c:\windows\system and navigated the installation wizard to them when asked using "browse" and the installation seemed to run to successful completion.

The application software provided titled "Webcam Manage Center" seems to run okay, starts the webcam and we can see high quality real time streamed images in the video window on the screen. So all seems well.

However, when she starts up the internet connection and signs into MSN Messenger with the live video option enabled, the session starts okay with good streamed video working too but quickly (after around 30 secs) the video streaming freezes and the image remains static and does not reset itself. MSN messenger continues without problem and she can type/chat to her friends with the video image ther... Read more

This is a slightly annoying problem. I've disabled Windows Live Messenger from starting up, both through Messenger's options and through MSCONFIG. The program doesn't start when Windows starts. But when I log on to Windows Live Mail through a web browser, Messenger starts up on it's own. I cannot figure out a way to disable this. I've looked through Live Mail options and can't find anything to denote starting up the program. I only use my Live Mail account for junk mail, but need to check it occasionally and would prefer it if Messenger didn't start up on it's own.

I find the assocation of windows live mail and messenger very annoying. In WL Mail, I use both my hotmail and gmail accounts. I prefer to save my passwords so I don't have to enter them every time I open my mail. However, if I get WL Mail to rememberr my passwords, my hotmail account automatically pops up first when I want to sign into WL Messenger, even though I never use hotmail in messenger (just the gmail sign-in). So now, I always have to change the sign-in information on messenger because somehow it prefers my hotmail account.
Simply clickinig 'forget me' in WL Messenger is not the solution since this also makes WL Mail forget my hotmail password, so I have to enter this one very time I open my mail.

So somehow I would like to dissociate the two, to have WL Mail to remember my passwords, but WL Messenger to forget the hotmail account. Does anyone know if there's any way to do so? I hate these automatic associations that you don't have any control over!

I have been attempting to link all of my emails on windows live mail lately and it looked easy for a while. It was until I had to add my Cogeco account to it. The system keeps telling me, when I attempt to run a test message, that it can't locate the incoming and outgoing mail servers. I have even taken the servers declared on their personal website and they do not work.. Here are my current server settings:

incoming mail (POP3): pop.cgocable.ca (initially it was "pop.cogeco.ca")
outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.cgocable.ca (initially it was "smtp.cogeco.ca")
E-mail username: **********

I have heard of some people checking the box where it says, "my server requires authentication" and they have had some success. I have tried this as well but they require me to re-enter the password and it will not even accept it! I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

Okay, so I had a problem recently where my computer was missing a PROPLUS.MSI file and prior to that I had installed Windows Live Messenger (the most recent one). Now, when the problem was occurring, my Windows Live Messenger would not work at all, not giving me an icon to open the application. After the problem was solved with my missing .msi file, I decided I would uninstall the messenger, but to my surprise, when I opened my Programs and Features window, Windows Live Messenger was not there. However, the WLM file remained in the Program menu of my Start menu, which no option to uninstall, let alone open the application. I figured I should re-install the entire program, but when I opened up the Windows Live Setup, it said that I had already downloaded the messenger. Now, keep in mind, I cannot uninstall the program as it cannot be found by my computer and yet the Windows Live Setup says that I do, in fact, have the program. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Let me mention that I receive the Messenger Error 1603 and I have looked at other forums for help, but the given solution don't seem to be working.

Windows live messenger has quite a few parts to it when it gets installed so I'm guessing you still have some things you don't want.

Just go Start>Settings>Control Panel>add/remove programs and uninstall the additional entries.

There should be things like "Windows Live Sign In Assistant", "Windows Live Essentials", "Windows Live Upload Tool", "Windows Live Mail", etc.

But what I find weird is, there is no shortcut folder in the start menu...furthermore, this program doesn't show up AT ALL in my notification area on the lower right of my screen...however it does show Yahoo Messenger...and AIM...and even on my other laptop, which is identical to this one except it runs Windows Vista, Windows Live Messenger DOES show up in the notification area...so why is it not showing up here?

I find this EXTREMELY weird, unless when it was being pre-installed someone shows to not show it in the notification area or something (supposing that's even possible).

Also if someone is going to say, customize the notification area, IT DOESN'T EVEN SHOW WINDOWS LIVE AS AN OPTION...whereas it shows Yahoo and AIM, and I am able to hide those icons and so on. Windows Live does not even show up AT ALL...how weird is that?!

What if you made it run at start up?

When signing into wlm the page opens and as soon as it connects an error message appears (with the option to send to microsft; which I have done 20/30 times now) and then wlm shuts down. This sometimes then crashes IE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON ONE MACHINE - I can sign on on another PC with no problems, and a friend can sign on from the machine that wont allow me to sign on. WE have uninstalled wlm 8, deleted wlm from the registry and reinstalled - the same thing happens.

ANy ideas?

About a month ago, my WLMessenger stopped working. It starts to log me on, and at the time, when it should display my contacts and everything, a moment before that, it displays an error message : Service Currently not available. I heard some kind of news from the radio, that in my area (Estonia, Eastern Europe), lots of people have had problems lately with Live Messenger.

Any suggestions ?

With great thanks,

EDIT:Got it working somehow. Thankyou for your interest anyway

I have recently replaced my laptop with one running Windows 7 and am still finding my way around this new O.S I downloaded Skype last week and now have Windows Live Messenger appearing on the task bar and on the screen every time I turn on the computer. As I do not wish to use this program - never have used it - I would like to disable it at least, or better still, uninstall it. I am unable to find how I can do this and hope someone out there can advise. There were 43 updates installed a few days ago and I am wondering if this is why it is now so visible. The laptop is only a month old and there was no Live Messenger visible until the updates.

Many thanks

You can uninstall Windows Live Messenger.

From your start menu, click Control Panel.

From Control Panel, choose Programs and Features.

When the Uninstall panel opens, scroll down and look for Windows Live Essentials and click it.

You will then be given a choice to remove or repair, choose Remove.

A list of installed Windows Essentials applications will be presented. Check the box for Messenger, then click Uninstall. If there are any other Live Essential programs you want to uninstall, check those boxes also.

Not long ago, I received an update for Windows Live Essentials 2011, so it is possible that you did also and that's how it ended up on your computer. If this is the case, you may end up getting it reinstalled if you have Microsoft updates set to automatically install.
