Does new hard disk require updated drivers for win 10?

Q: Does new hard disk require updated drivers for win 10?

I bought a Toshiba satellite with win 8.1 about 18 months ago, then upgraded to Win 10 with no problems. About a month ago the hard drive died and Toshiba replaced it under guarantee, with Win 8.1. I tried to upgrade to Win 10 and it hangs after about five hours of downloading, updating, installing, rebooting etc. Microsoft tell me that I need new drivers from Toshiba. Does this sound reasonable?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just purchased a 320gb seagate hard disk with casing X-craft cooler master a month ago. I made two partition. I already used up 60% space of the hard disk.

Now, when i plug in my external hdd, the hdd not detected. But after try plug in and out for a few times. Windows require me to format in order to use the disk drive.

i. What should i do now?
ii. is the hard disk spoilt?
iii. should i (re)format the hard disk?

NOW my laptop no longer detect my external hard disk. THE BLUE LED AND SOUND from casing is PRESENT, but nothing detected in My Computer.

I have a disk that came with my mobo and it's drivers, however the drivers are out of date/ Is there a way to find out which drivers I need and make them in to a disk similar to the mobo on that I received. On the disk I have, I can choose to install the needed drivers by clicking ASUS install. Is that part even possible?

thanks all

A:Drivers in question and can I make an updated disk

If what you want to do is save off the set of updated, working drivers, then you should look into DoubleDriver. It allows you to save off all, or some, of your current drivers to a directory, with entries then for each of the devices.

Reinstalling these drivers is then a simple matter of pointing Device Manager at the top-most directory and allowing it to search all the subfolders.

I am actually looking forward to Windows 10. I currently love and use Win 7 Pro 64 for everything I do at home which is primarily gaming and some multi-tasking in widows with word/excel documents.

So far everything looks really enticing with DX12 and USB 3.1.

I see they even have the traditional start button back on the desktop.

I thought that I read they will require a subscription to own this version of Windows, well not own but whatever.

Is there some ongoing fee we as Home users will have to pay to get updates?

Thanks much!

When a Seagate hard disk (ST3500418AS) or Plextor SSD are connected to my Win7 x64 Ultimate installation, no driver is found even via Windows Update.
The drivers should be included in Win7 hence AFAIK there are no such drivers available from the manufacturer's sites.

BTW, the drives previously worked on the machine, so it appears that something has gone awry.
Also, both drives are recognised in the BIOS.

MS Security Essentials and also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware can not find any viruses or malware.

Any suggestions?.

Basically, I accidentally uninstalled the drivers for my secondary hard drive that I only used for storage through device manager. Now it shows the hard drive under Other devices. When I open the properties for it it shows that there are no drivers installed for it (obviously). So my question is, how do I reinstall the drivers for it so vista recognizes it as a disk drive? I've tried connecting it to different SATA ports, which didn't work. It is recognized in the BIOS and there is nothing wrong with the hard drive since I can access it from another computer. I've reinstalled motherboard drivers and I also did the "search for drivers" for the hard drive through windows but nothing was found. Any help would be appreciated.

I have two terabyte external hard drives by Fantom. Had them a few years. It's been about 6 months since I've been able to access either one of them. I've searched the Internet for the drivers, as ONE of them says the driver is gone, and the other can't be "seen" at all. Is there any FREE site that could help that you know of? IF i have to pay one of the Driver "services" websites, does anyone have a good one to recommend? I'm worried about these drives, and need to get the info off of them soon.

As a side thought, I will be looking today & tomorrow in these Black Friday sales for a drive or two to replace these. Any words of wisdom on what to buy or steer clear of or even great deals, let me know. I'm lost as a goose as to what to get.

This is an amazing site. I've searched it for years and gotten great advice and help. I believe TODAY is the first time I've posted.

Is the problem something that's happened after upgrading from another version of Windows 7? There's precious little extra for home users in Ultimate apart from the ability to switch languages easily and it costs twice as much money. Ultimate's more suitable for businesses wanting to use a network and such things as "nodeless discs" whatever they may be.

I have a problem. when trying to install XP I can't get the drivers to load from the CD it wants them In A: drive and that's too much information for a diskette, Can anyone help me out on this?

A:Installing Hard disk sata Drivers

It depends on the motherboard but often the SATA/RAID drivers are not just copied directly from the CD to the floppy. Motherboard driver CDs often have drivers for different chipsets and different operating systems. In these cases a utility program on the CD is used so you can select the correct drivers which will fit on the floppy diskette. Directions on how to make the SATA driver floppy are usually in the motherboard manual.

It would be better if we knew what motherboard you have.

A:Drivers for OEM win7 installation on new hard disk.

Hi: See if this works... I have zipped up and attached the W7 32 bit storage controller drivers below. Download and unzip the files to their folder. Get a USB flash drive and copy the files in the folder to the flash drive. With the flash drive and W7 installation media in the PC, boot from the W7 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will install.

Hi, my issues are two-fold.

After asking the guys at the shop who put my computer together to partition the hard drive, they must've forgotten.

I'm a full-time student heading toward a level 6 diploma in ICT, just started learning diskpart, etc. So it's good practice for me to make right what they didn't do.

Have read many forums trying to work out what to do because I can only shrink this Western Digital (WD5000AAKS) 500GB to half it's size (when what I really want is Windows 7 on C drive at only 50GB's).

Have tried a custom install but it asks me for SATA drivers which I cannot for the life of me find to download.

Any help is very much appreciated.

P.S: The second part of the problem is RAM related, should I fix that first before doing the fresh install, or? I purchased 4GB of RAM but right clicking computer properties shows Installed memory (RAM): 2.00 GB. Right-clicking on my-PC and choosing properties does show 2 yellow warnings with exclamation marks. The first one is PCI Simple Communications Controller but clicking the update driver part comes back with "Windows was unable to install your..." Windows could not find driver software for your device. It doesn't have any driver provider details (Unkown) so not sure how to go about fixing that?
And the second exclamation mark says Unkown Device (could that be the missing RAM?)

A:Correct SATA Drivers for hard disk controller?

1. What kind of motherboard do you have? You'll have to go to their site and get the SATA/RAID drivers for your board.
2. 32 or 64 bit? 32 bit will only recognize up to 3.0 or 3.5 GB of RAM.

Check in device manager if all driver applications are installed and fine.
It can be checked by:
1.) Click Start button and type "device manager" and hit "Enter"
2.) In the popup window called "Device Manager", under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" check if there exists any "?" mark or yellow triangle with black "!" mark in between.
If it is found so, it is a problem with drivers.

There is utility called "Device doctor" which scans the machine checks for driver updates the drivers. Try installing the application and check your machine. Please use the following link

I got a question regarding old motherboards. I have this Biostar mobo M6TBA. I went to there website and doesnt list its chipset driver. Do all motherboard require its chipset drivers?

A:Does this board require its chipset drivers?

If you are refering to the "motherboard chipset" as the chipset, then no , since most version of windows ( from windows 98 on ) do have the drivers for it ( and that driver usualy is up-to-date) . On the other hand if you are refering to the chipset , as the IDE controlller then you might need to download one , depending of the chipset that you have ( Intel , VIA, SIS , ALI etc..)

I have an old Dell DIMENSION 8300, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.60GHz 2.59GHz, & 1.00GB of RAM that I ended up having to do a reformat of the hard disk yesterday and when installing the drivers I had run into some problems with the audio drivers. I have the utility disk that came with the computer, so I was installing the drivers with that. The audio driver showed to be 198xIntegrated Audio Driver Sound Max. When it gets to the installation process, it would run through and then an error would pop up saying "Driver not found, Reboot Your System and run step again". I tried this and it would not work. I checked in device manager and everything else seemed to be okay except under other devices/multimedia controller had the yellow question mark. I even went to Dell's downloads to get the same exact file and try it but it didn't work. The file for it was R58182. I did some searching on the net about this issue and there were other folks that had run into this problem but I couldn't find any resolution to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

My company's computer needs to be patitioned and reformat. The system is still working well. I mean, nothing wrong with anything (weird huh?). Ok the hard disk just need to be 'split'. I mean, make drive C & D on the hard disk. I know how to do that... easy... Then the HD need to be formatted & reinstall windows XP. Ok, easy too..

But the main problem occured before I do anything (partition & format). I have my own bootable CD that I usually use for partitioning & formatting.

Ok, i insert the CD & restart.
I went to BIOS & changed the boot order (1st boot: CD-ROM, 2nd: HDD-0 & 3rd: Floppy). Then restart again.
Ok the bootable CD is excellently loaded.
I typed fdisk, then came the first problem. it says something like 'no fixed disk'. I exit fdisk.
Then I typed format c:, 2nd problem occured. it says something like, 'invalid drive'.
I forgot the error message because the pc is in my office right now. I'm currently at home 'begging for help' So the error message is not accurate. sorry..

I think, if I run the CD, the hard disk will not be loaded (or should I say, hard disk failure). & If I take off the CD & restart again, change the BIOS (1st boot: HDD-0) then windows will load! Weird right?

I don't think my CD is 'corrupted' nor broken because I tried to run the CD from another PC. Yes, I can access the C drive from that PC.

Does anyone have any idea of the ... Read more

It sounds like it might be the bootable CD you've created is not picking up the HDD's/partitions.
To eliminate this as a posibility travel to bootdisk and grab the WinME bootdisk and boot from there. If it picks up the HDD you can FDISK and Format from there.
The other option is to boot using the XP CD and let it handle the formatting/partitioning duties...

You will not see a performance boost. The misuse of a driver can screw your video up pretty badly. DO NOT try to go with the wrong driver.

A:Would reinstalling Windows 7 require formatting of additional hard drives?

In Short- No. However, it is always recommended to physically disconnect all other drives besides the one you are installing on. Also, if the drive that you are reinstalling on has multiple partitions, MAKE SURE that you choose the right one when reinstalling windows.

Also, just so you know, to do a full reinstall, choose "custom install" in the menu from the windows install disk. Also note that a reinstall will mean that you have to reinstall all programs that you currently have.

a few days ago, after a restart of my PC, I didn't get any sound at all, and still dont get it.
all my drivers are apdated, realtek, motherboard drivers, graphic driver...
i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling realtek driver and software
and - as you can see in the picture -
windows media player is playing a song. in the "sound" menu (top left), the speakers (defined for realtek hd audio) are also working, the geen bars go up and down. in the device manager (down left) i have realtek driver, updated. and all nvidia drivers (as it always been, and also i checked another pc and has it too). realtek manager works fine, recognize when i plug into the front or the rear jack (using the green one at the rear), everything seems ok. but (!) the "volume" menu (down right) doesn't have a green bar that goes up and down, and - I dont hear any sound at all...
tried connecting speakers to iphone - the speakers are fine, works well.

you can use Everest Home to tel you what version your drivers are. But when it comes to Firmware updates be careful. If the Firmware Update fails you could end up with a component that no longer works. Not all devices with Flash Upgrades to Firmware are reversable if it should fail.

DELL Latitude D505
Windows XP service pack 3.

As my logitech cam's picture quality was awful and after exhausting ideas, I have updated all the Drivers from DELL as it's been a long time I have done that. I made a mistake for not restoring the system. Now I have the following issues
1. I find that sound card is working as the sound test is working but I cannot get any sound from any other source like youtube or any web or cannot locate SigmaTel in the logitech cam. I cannot do skype as well. Please can you help me.

-- Tried to uninstall and install the SigmaTel drivers but no help.

2. when I open the control panel "IPC error: no server. (SM_RC_ENOSERVER)(11)" this error is bothering me and system seems to have slowed down.
I regret that I have not restored the system. Please help me get over these two issues.

A:Drivers updated with the following issues.

When I plugged my mp3 player up before a list of options came up or I could go to my computer and the folder would be there. With this computer it says add new hardware and then it says it could slow the computer down and i click to go ahead anyway and it backs up the old files on the computer and then nothing. First, & I have to ask this ; Who would download a driver update & NOT want to install it? In other words why is'nt there an embedded command that after I've downloaded the update ,unzips & automatically INSTALLS the update? Upon instruction I have failed to install the updates . I am definitely missing something here(other than a few brain cells). Help(In plain terms)would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A:Installing Updated Drivers

That's more so a programming question. In general terms, it's a safety precaution for the user to select the correct installer so problems won't occur. I hope this answers your question.

I was doing routine maintence on my rig when I updated to the new Omega 14.12, and now I cannot get my drivers to work on my card. I am having "requires digitally signed drivers" error messages to which I went in and disabled digital signed recognition, but I am still having issues.  Namely the device wont use the drivers so I'm stuck with my stock motherboard graphics and resolution. If anyone can please give my some heads up on this I would really appreciate it. My computer is an HP p6624y with a HD 5770. It's an older girl.

A:Updated my amd drivers and now its all wrong

So i am not going to touch on the compatability issue because im not sure if that could be anything but as for the certifications i found the problem/solution.
Windows just rolled out a heap of new updates also and they are the problem for the drivers, not AMD.  Clean off all the AMD stuff first (i use DDU, works great), then disable ALL windows updating for the time being, shut her down.  They will probably hotfix it by Monday but till then i am not sure if reinstalling the updates after the fact will cause issues so i do not know what to tell you there.  Next, go manually uninstall the 6-9 (i didnt count) updates that we just installed from under the Microsoft Windows category which is where the security and definitions chill, forgo restarting till all of them are dead.  now restart...
Now as long as you barred those dang updates from happening you should be good and the install should go fine.  It worked for me, took me about 5 hours to narrow  it down to that and im glad i got it...
Its dead week for me and i have a mountain of crap i need to finish so im gonna be pulling an all nighter now =D cheers

Hello, First of all thanks to anyone who can help.

Here is my problem: I just built my brother his computer for Xmas and everything is brand new and the computer is "working". Yet every time I start a game or try to get the system rating the comp either freezes, restarts, or blue screens. I've updated the video card half a dozen times and It says that it is updated yet problems still occur.

Here are the specs

OS- Windows 7 64bit
Video card- AMD Radeon HD 6900
Processor- AMD 6 core 6100
Motherboard- 990FX Sabertooth
Ram- 8gs
Power- antec 900w
HD- 2 terabyte

A:Drivers are updated, but PC keeps freezing

Although that processor is supported by the motherboard, it's possible that the BIOS is an older version, pre-FX.

Ok. Everytime I update my drivers past Catalyst 3.3 or higher.. when I get onto CS 1.6.. The screen starts changing colors.. From Regular to red to blue to green and it keeps on going. When I go to 3.2 and lower.. it works fine. I need to upgrade my drivers because Halo doesn't support the one that I have installed now.. and I have to go higher to play it. Thanks!

A:Updated Drivers.. result

Have you tried reinstalling Steam? Also, make sure you set your video settings appropriately, mainly just set it to OpenGL. I use the 3.9 Catalysts and Steam with no problems on my 9600XT....what video card do you have, by the way?
