High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

Q: High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

Recently, I reinstalled my Netgear wna3100 driver. Ever since then, I've been experiencing problems with high pings in games where I normally never had problems with. Pages load slowly even just the home page of Google.

I've attached my ipconfig picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I would also (while the device is plugged in)
go into the control panel - system - device manager - click the properties for it and make sure it's set to always on there as well.
I don't think the ipconfig can tell us much here since it's a data rate problem of some sort and not a actual connection problem from the sound of it.

The two things I mention above will hopefully keep your system from putting the device in 'low power mode' which may , or may not help your current problem.

I'm also curious if your system has recently slowed down in any other ways?

ive been havign a problem with my internet for the past few weeks, i have had an extremly high ping, making it imposible to play video games on my xbox 360, and making it imposible to use websites like youtube, however my download speed remains uneffected.

my ping can range from 400 all the way up to 5000

i was wondering if something within my network could be casueing the high ping,

my modem is connected to a linksys router, which connects to sevral computers downstairs, also it is connceted to a long ethernet cable to my bedroom where a ethernet hub splits to two cables one for my xbox 360 and one for my pc. would this cause a proplem with ping?

i will submit some more speed tests later to show the higher ping, it fluctuates all day, its not time depentant which makes me think its not the isp's fault(nothing to do with everone usign the internet at the same time)

It started about two days ago, I was using this connection for ages now. The download speed seems fine at the moment but my ping goes through the roof.
I tried restarting the router, I have no process running in the background stealing speed or any of that stuff.

A:Relatively fine download speed, extremely high ping

Maybe you should move closer to your router, or it could be your firewall slowing down your ping. You could also use a wired connection (like a Ethernet cable) if you haven't already. Also, did you do anything to affect your connection those two days ago? Or did it happen out of nowhere? Make sure to scan for malware or other malicious software on your computer that could be messing with it. Most people here ask for ipconfig/all, it usually reveals the problems of your connection issues. So make sure to put that in your thread soon. You can also put your PC statistics as well for us to see if anything would be incompatible with your computer and router.

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me out. I use Virgin Media in London as my ISP and the past week the internet has been running really slowly on my computer, which is not ideal as I play online games.

My ping has been around 150ms most of the time and it's normally below 30ms but a few times a minute it's spiking up to 10000 and frequently disconnecting and reconnecting.

I ran a speed test through Ookla today on my computer and the ping was 146ms, the download speed was 2.3 Mbps (I pay for 100 Mbps). When I ran the exact same test on my phone straight after my ping was 17ms and my download speed 60.49Mbps, so I'm starting to think the problem might be with my computer. In both cases the upload speed was around 5Mbps.

Has anyone got any suggestions on what the problem might be? I'd be really grateful, thanks a lot!

A:High Ping and Poor Download Speed on Computer but not Phone

Is your computer(which you didn't describe) using an ethernet or wireless connection?
Is it running Windows XP or Vista or 7 or 8.1 or 10, 32-bit or 64-bit?

Go into the Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters heading.
What's the exact names of the devices listed there?
Open the properties window for those devices and then select the "Driver" tab.
What's the exact driver version listed there?

I just purchased a new Asus netbook a few days ago and I am very disappointed in the extremely slow download speeds and incredibly high ping.

I have been looking all over the net and I have tried a bunch of things to fix the issue but to no prevail. I was hoping someone on this forum could help me before I end up returning this thing .

Here is my speedtest with my netbook with a WIRED connection... Notice the download and upload speeds are where they should be, but the ping is still high.

Now here is my speed test on WIRELESS... Notice the upload speed is where it should be, but the download speed and ping are WAY off....

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME I get normal ping and download speeds on other PCs and laptops hooked up to the same network!

Asus Eee PC 1015PEM
Intel Atom n550 Dual-Core 1.5 ghz processor
2 Gigs Ram
Windows 7 Starter

A:Incredibly SLOW download & High Ping!!

The netbook has a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter, when I goto status is says it runs at 72.0mbps

The network is on a Linksys Router WRT150N Wireless-N.

I never had a problem with my old laptop that ran windows XP, download speeds were fine.

I hope this is the information you were asking for, if you need anything else let me know.
Thanks for the attempt

Hey All, i'm new here this is my first post but it looked like a fairly knowldegeable place so i'm happy to give it a try, hope someone here can help

First, a bit of background info..
Since i got my hands on the RC i've loved it. I'm running the 64bit version on this spec (I Don't think it'll be important, but still worth saying)

AMD Athlon 64 3200 OC'd to 2.5Ghz
1.5 GB DDR-400 Ram
GeForce 6800GT
IDE HDD's and so on.

I've already seen a post without a solution to this...

The Problem
Anyone who plays Countestrike source on Windows 7 will probably have seen this.
If the FPS Is set to 30 or lower = Normal Ping of around 24 - 30ms on UK Servers.
If The FPS Is set to 101 or higher = High ping of around 56 - 80ms on UK Servers.

This is annoying. 100FPS Is the optimal, i cap it there on purpose because i don't need anyone, i can get full smooth game play using it, however with that ping i can't.

I've tried disabling the Firewall, homegroup shares etc.
I Tried using the command:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
No Luck.

Anyone with an idea at all i will buy a cookie if i ever meet them!

A:High FPS = High Ping in games (solution anyone?)

You could try Faster Ping. It may help lower your ping.

Free Download - Faster Ping 0.1beta - Simulation - Simtel.net

Unzip and dont't bother with the setup. Go in the fasterPing_0_1_1_11 folder, run FasterPing.exe as Administrator. Just click Apply. Reboot. Done

I have this very annoying problem and I'm really out of hopes. I don't know what to do anymore. I'll make a summary of the problem and will be as concise as possible

So I have this Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with a broadband connection (direct cable, no router) and 3 weeks ago I reinstalled my Windows. Everything went well until 2 weeks ago when the internet speed went down, dial-up like. Pages won't load, and if they do they load just partially. I called my ISP and they said they had no problem. I couldn't find any solution so I thought maybe, some sort of virus or spyware is doing this so I formated the whole hard-disk and did a clean install of Windows.

Unfortunatelly nothing changed, the download speed is the same. Here is a speedtest.net evaluation:

Drivers are up to date, no windows firewall, no antivirus and no windows update. The ISP support guy told me to deactivate IPv4 and IPv6 from Local Area Connection, but nothing changed. I did a TCP/IP reset which raised my down speed to almost 1 Mb, but after a few minutes it went back to "dial-up". With the down speed being the same, Speedtest sometimes shows me upload speed in between 50-70 Mb which is unbelievable (I will make a ss next time I see this).

And the very weird thing is that I have another netbook (pretty weak config, Intel Atom CPU, 2 GB RAM) and with the same cable it has normal speed (the kind of speed I had on this Dell too). An... Read more

It looks like I have malware that redirects the browser to a number of places I don't want to go nor where i typed. It happens on both Firefox and IE. I have Windows 7.
I have Kaspersky installed now as well as Malwarebytes. Neither can find the issues and fix them. I've run Kaspersky's TDSSKiller. It found 2 medium risks, which I deleted, but it didn't help.

When i look at Task Manager, I can often see ping.exe running at up to 70% of cpu.

Kaspersky just informed me that "C:\windows\syswow64\ping.exe downloading object hxxp://domain1for8.in/?site=8 containing Trojan program" Detected: Trojan-Downloader.JS.Iframe.com

When I look at Kaspersky report, it shows ping accessing bad places every 2 seconds or so.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a GMER.log that I ran last night.

I bought a Razer Lycosa a few days ago. Everything seemed normal, but then ping got really high during gameplay. It just says connection interrupted and ping goes 999 for 20 seconds or so. Then it calms down for about 10 minutes, but it goes insane again.
It sounded a bit stupid that my keyboard is causing these problems so I scaned my computer for viruses etc. but it remained the same. I realised that these connection problems started when I bought my new keyboard. After disconnecting it and connecting my old keyboard ping normalized again. I tried it a couple of times and I realised that Lycosa is the real cause of my problems.
I tried installing it again and installing some new drivers but it also didn't help.
Does anyone have the answer to this problem. Thanks for you help in advance.

Hi, I just went from using Windows XP Pro x64 to Windows 7 x64.

Any FPS game I played on XP I would get a constant ping of 10-25 in any Chicago based server. After going over to Windows 7, any Chicago server I join I get over 100 ping...and I don't know what is wrong. I've done the speed test, and I'll post three ping traces to three Chicago servers, I'm running off a cable modem, with no router, until as of today when I installed 7, I never had any ping issues before. It also seems like my ping issues only coincide with only games I play. My ping on Ventrilo, anything else are normal.

A:High Ping Issues in Games

take a look at your IP config, I had a little ping issues on a few games my self. I disabled IPv6 and it helped a little, maybe it was the IPv6 maybe I got lucky who knows. you will note that if you do an IP config you will see several tunnel adapters. also check your firewall, that is if you have one. I started using Kaspersky Internet Security and my pings went way high even with permissions granted. if I turn off the firewall the ping drops, Im guessing its because the FW isnt quite made for Win7 yet.

im not sure if any of that will help or if you have tried them. I hope it was a little help

Hello everyone,

This is my very first post so sorry if this has been covered before.

I have both a PC running Windows 7 and also a Mac G5 running OS X. Both computers are connected with an ethernet cable to my netgear router, which it connected to my Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem. My cable internet service is Time Warner/Roadrunner.

I have run speed tests and ping tests from speedtest.net and pingtest.net.

My results are the following...

Download - 29.54 mbps
Upload - .81 mbps
Packet Loss - 0%
Ping - 512 ms
Jitter - 2 ms

Download - 24.47 mbps
Upload - .90 mbps
Packet Loss - 0%
Ping - 19 ms
Jitter - 3 ms

I have run these numerous times and the numbers are somewhat different but always pretty similar.

My questions is the following... Why is my ping so much faster on the MAC than it is on the PC? They are both connected exactly the same way.

Someone please help me!!!

BTW... (how do I post a pic of the speedtest for the future?)

I got Comcast High Speed Internet about a month ago, and everything was fine and dandy til about a week ago... I usually get in a game of counter-strike with my buddies every night, and lately my ping has gone from the normal 30-40 ms to about 120-200 ms. At first I thought maybe it was spyware, so I thoroughly scanned my computer... nothing. Then, I thought maybe it might be the game, so I uninstaleld it and reinstalled it... nothing. I have called up Comcast about 3 times about this already, and every time one of their incompetent employees gives me some BS about how its working fine.
I am playing thru a wireless router, but even if I plug directly into the cable modem, thru a wire, I get the same slow pings. An interesting fact - if I ping my default gateway when I am plugged in directly, I get pings anywhere from 200-400 ms... now something about that just doesnt seem right, that I should be pinging the ISP, with a direct connection, at 200 - 400 ms!
Has anyone here ever had a similar problem? What do you think I should do? I am about 99% sure it's not a porblem on my end... I even tried using my roomate's computer, and he gets the same slow pings in this game... yet the internet works just fine.
Any advice would be appreciated!!!

What has been happening is that even though my boyfriend and I have the same laptop, the same OS (Operating System) (Windows 8), and the same internet connection, my ping for games goes up to 12k while his stays at 29.

Our laptops are the Asus X551CA, with the only difference between our laptops is that he has 2GB more RAM (Random Access Memory) than I.

I have tried putting a password on my internet, turning off my firewall, changing my I.P. connection thing to Google's, and turning off my peer-to-peer networking, but nothing is working!
He downloads more torrents than I, and his laptop would definitely be at greater risk for viruses so I do not know what is going on with the way my computer connects to the internet.
I have tried using system restore and everything!

The games he and I have tried playing together are League of Legends and World of Warcraft; so far, League definitely lags more with my ping going all the way up to 15k while WoW usually only goes up to 6k for me. The lag spikes are spontaneous, and he never gets any despite sharing the same connection!

Even when he is not here, I still lag. However, when my laptop is at his house, it does not lag at all! Any suggestions or help please?

A:Solved: High Ping when playing games

Latency is a factor of your network and the data packet type. Your ISPs will prioritize some types of data packets. You could try this software to reduce latency - GAMO @ www.getamoveon.net

So I am at a bit of a loss here. For the past week or so, I have been getting random spikes of high latency in online games like World of Warcraft/Star Wars: The Old Republic/League of Legends/etc and I have no idea what could be causing it. My ping used to run around 30-80 and lately is has been spiking from 100 to over 700 randomly. I have tried everything I could think of like not using my router, power cycling my modem several times, making sure my drivers are updated, no programs in the background causing it, no firewalls/anti-virus programs causing it, and several other little things like that. I have also called my ISP and they said everything seems to be working fine. And here's another weird thing, according to speedtest.net, my service is running as it should be: http://i40.tinypic.com/35jgwt2.png. The server my service is connecting to is in the next town over which is ~15 minutes away so that couldn't be it either.

Here is my system specs:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 4
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 12286 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 896 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 57137 MB, Free - 23184 MB; F: Total - 953865 MB, Free - 897077 MB; G: Total - 476929 MB, Free - 13385 MB;
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., EX58-UD4P

Anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

I live in the middle east so i expect a ping of around 150ms when playing online games , (in this case League of Legends),
But recently i have been receiving ping of around 350-400 which makes the game barely playable. I am playing on Eastern European servers since that is what is recommended for Middle Eastern Players.

I have performed numerous diagnostic tests, tried a wired connection, disabled IPV6 , tried a public DNS etc. But i can find the root of the problem. Please Help

P.s Here is my network diagnostic taken about 5 minutes ago after a clean boot on a wired connection.

Hi everyone

I just bought my new laptop, Asus ux303lb yesterday and since then I have been experiencing high ping and frequent disconnections in games, namely Tera and Warframe. I have run them perfectly on my older computer with even poorer specs. A test on pingtest.com and speedtest.com shows that I have no packet loss and my ping is well below 10ms. I also take an extremely long time to log into games. Could I get some help please? Thank you.

A:High ping and frequent disconnections in games

Few suggestions, (im not an IT guru):
- Performance when loading games is due to your computers specifications and/or any other programs that you may be running in the background;
- When using a laptop for gaming please remember that slow performance can be due to power saving features of your device. Laptops use this to prolong the battery life. The power saving feature will stop using the ac adaptor and use the battery for a predetermined amount of time, after which it will charge the battery up. When using the battery power, this can result in less power to hardware making gaming fps drop etc...
- Ping: try "cmd.exe" and type "tracert" and after once space type gaming server ip address. This will show you the network path from your laptop through all the network hardware and should show you any problems which you can discuss with your ISP.
- Points to remember: update all drivers as they encompass new releases and fix older bugs, don't download when playing online games, ensure your WIFI connection is via 5ghz network (if available) and not 2.4ghz, every so often restart your router

First of all sorry if this is going to be a long post but i'm kind of at a loss already on what to do with my problem and wanted to be as detailed as possible when describing it, so here goes.

I installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview last december and since then, all my online games both from local and international servers have been experiencing extreme lag during gameplay and loading. This only happened after i installed the consumer preview and since then has been happening everytime i try playing any of the online games. I tried playing offline games to see if it might be the graphics but did not encounter any graphics lag and the offline games played perfectly.

I've contacted my ISP and one of their techs came over to check my connection and found nothing wrong with it or from the connection from their servers. Even streaming and downloading speeds are normal.

I've checked my connection at speedtest.net and my ping and internet connection are also registering as normal

Now i tried contacting support for 2 of the online games Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, they requested a pathping file which i sent to them and copied below:

Hey, couple months ago i bought a computer for myself and have it in my room. the old computer that i used to use is now beign used by my sister and my parents decided to buy a new Dell computer. All 3 of these computers have internet access thru a router to cable internet. when we first had things set up, they were great, fast page uploads fast downloads, low ping in my favourite game of all time, counter-strike, everythign was golden!

but then all of a sudden, around a month and a half ago, i start to notice some weird lag. my choke was jumping up to over 25 and along with my ping (from 60-80 to 250+). and the weird thing is it would do this every 5 or 6 seconds apart so the spiking made it very hard to play CS, and downloads off the net took longer along with slow page loading, but isnt to bad to really notice.

so i do know a bit about how this can be fixed but im not intirely sure, i was reading at www.netgear.com with my router modle i can set what computers can use what ports and such, so i tried this, i know what ports CS needs so i put that one in and also theres a program that my sister uses called ABC (which sucks up all the bandwidth like a *****) so i put the ports that that uses in the port fowarding then clicked apply... i then joined a server and my ping was gone...but 10 mins later it was back to the crappy way it was b4.... and im still havign the same problems. ive tried everything from reinstallign my CS to rebooting the router (several dozen times) and n... So... I've been through a lot fixing my computer after upgrading to windows 7. Never upgrading again, this has cause way more problems than a clean install would have... Anyway. First problem I had was that skype all of a sudden didn't like my sound driver. A friend of mine changed the driver, everything seems to be fine now; no crashes or anything. I mention that only because whenever skype crashed, anything fullscreen would crash upon opening, so I had thought it was related to sound when I noticed an extremely high amount of latency in every full screen game I played after fixing the skype issue, specifically Counter Strike: Source and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

I recognize CSS has had a lot of issues with Windows 7... but BC2 came out after W7... And, all my friends seem to have both of these games working just fine on their computers, running W7. So. I'm not sure what's wrong. I've tried a couple of things...

1. Disabled sound card/drivers. Wasn't the problem.
2. Used task manager and resource monitor to see if there was anything that could be slowing my internet... And, I found that ashWebSv.exe (essential part of Avast! Anti-Virus) had 50+ instances in the TCP Connections part of resource monitor. This ONLY happens after playing a game (or at least it appears so); prior to starting up a fullscreen online game, there is only one instance of this, at least as far as I can tell. Also noted that hl2.exe was using up 80% of my cpu (I've specifically been ... Read more

A:High Ping in Full Screen Games After W7 Upgrade?

Remembered that last time I was asked to attach a few things... so here's what I was asked for last time.

Perfmon report 1 is without the game running, perfmon report 2 is with Counter Strike: Source running. I might add one with Bad Company 2 running if I get a chance later... Hopefully this will shed some light on my issue? =P.

The package includes perfmon report (2 of them, see above), msinfo32, ipconfig, netsh_lan1, and the TSF_Vista_Support folder (even though i'm not having BSOD issues lol, i kinda realized after the fact >.> so I figured i'd attach anyway).

Anything else you may need, just ask.

EDIT: by the way, in perfmon report 2, my ping was 350-500 the entire time in CSS... Just letting you know in case it matters <.<...

Also, forgot to mention previously that I am currently running Steam and hl2.exe in Windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode... Isn't helping >.>...

So I recently built a computer (I will post the hardware below) and it replaced my old iMac. Ever since I have built it, the connection on it has been incredibly "spiky." Especially when I game, it will start out at about 10ms ping which, then spike to around 800ms for 20 minutes at a time. My other computers in the house remain their high connection and my download speed stays at about 50mbs. I ran a packet loss test and it shows a ton of packet loss and high amounts of jitter. When I turn the modem off then on the wifi temporarily fixed for a little bit. Any help would be amazing and I can prove more details with anything. I have already run a virus/maleware scan and my firewall has all the games excluded, and all of my drivers are up to date.

Hello. I'm currently experiencing high ping times after the 10th hop on my traceroutes, ping seems fine/reasonable at 50ms (though they usually are more stable then they are now, and lower) until it leaves the general location where I live. It's usually fine, but when this problem occurs it is sudden and lasts for quite some time. It's the same on any PC in my house. Is this due to network saturation or what? I pay Shaw $72 a month for this internet, and have problems every week with it, it seems like.

Hi everyone,

My name is Alex and I'm from Brussels, Belgium. I'm 30 and I work for a European institution
I'll try to explain my problem in the most detailed way possible. I hope someone will be able to help me because I'm at wit's end right now as to what could cause the problem...

I have a brand new system (except for CPU and PSU) as follow:

OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1
RAM (4GB total):
1x KINGSTON DDRII 2GB (~2y old)
HDD: SAMSUNG SSD 840 120GB (BRAND NEW, no previous OS installs)
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3.01GhZ (~2y old)
PSU: 800W Diamond Power / Power Supply ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V (~1yr old)

The computer had a hard drive failure and thus a hard drive replacement (both old and new being 1TB SATA HDDs) about 3 months ago.
I took the opportunity to switch from XP to win7. My computer did not like this and started constantly giving me 50% CPU loads even when fully idle. The process taking 50% cpu was "system". We traced this to ntkernel and after a deep analysis found it to be the USB ports. 2 of the 4 motherboard USB ports had died and we figured it was related --> NEW MOTHERBOARD + decided to buy a new GPU, HDD and extra RAM.

As you can see above, new motherboard, new HDD (SSD instead of SATA), more RAM, and new graphics card. The only hardware... Read more

A:Win7 freezes & BSODs when playing high spec games only (loads of info inside)

Pardon the very early bump, but I have new information that could help maybe!

I ran a processor (& ram) stress test using a program called Prime95. It put both my cores at 100% use and was supposed to do so for several minutes.

On the first attempt, one of the two cores suddenly dropped to 0% and I received the following message:
[Mon Apr 08 22:21:26 2013]
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

The second core stayed at 100% as the test was still going on, but about 1 minute later, my computer completely froze (same way as explained in the first post).

I tried running the test again with another setting to try to focus more on the processors and less on the RAM (although I believe it still put stress on the RAM to a certain point), and this time within 30 seconds I received a BSOD. The error message mentioned atikmdag.sys.

I'm attaching the latest dump file which includes the new BSOD dump.

So, is my processor malfunctioning? :(

Download and ping are different. download is how fast you can receive information. Ping is how long it takes to get there and back. I need to get more info about you network setup before we can start to diagnose this.

let me ask some questions

Was your dl and ping always this was or did it slow down?
Did you make any changes when it did start to slow down?

how many machines on your network?

is it possible somebody is using your wifi?

is your pc simply downloading updates in the background?

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your help so far, this is a fantastic community of helpful people <3

I am not booty-kissing on purpose, I truly mean those words as you have helped out so many times in the past, and recently...but now I have an odd problem, probably easily solved though.

Okay to say first, my pc stats are in my profile, and below my problem, is a HJT log...

Just as of last night, I have been experiencing very bad Ping, of 500 and above, whereas before I was getting under 100 regularly.

I have tried defragging, disk clean up'ing, deleting 50gb of junk files ,cleaning the registry and startup files to the bare minimum, and even after that, I have a ping of 500+

I am wondering if there is something I am missing, something I could do, to improve my setup - my ram is fairly good, I think at least, as is my net speed, 2MB net hasn't caused me a problem before

Thank you for your time in reading this, it will most definitely bring a smile to my face to see this lower <3

Firstly, are you noticing lag in-game?

Secondly, do you have your own router? If so, do you have it secured at all? If you can tell us the make&model, we can probably help you with securing it.
