Q: Brightness settings do not stay when using NEC Mul...

We ordered about 20 of the Lenovo 10AY tiny desktops for our businesses and I've found a consistent problem with the Lenovo tiny computers and NEC monitors. Whenever i pair the lenovo 10AY units with our NEC monitors in our business, users have constant monitor brightness issues. I have updated to the latest version of Lenovo power manager software on several desktops and the monitors still will not stay at 100% brightness after a log off/reboot. I've also tried downloading the latest NEC monitor drivers. still no luck. Here's how it goes: - deploy new lenovo 10AY- log into workstation- NEC monitor goes to lowest brightness setting- manually set brightness back to 99%-double check lenovo power manager settings to ensure brightness is set to 100%, dynamic brightness control is disabled, timers are off ETC..-log off computer- log back into computer - 5 mins later, monitor goes to lowest brightness setting- go into monitor menu and manually change brightness back to 99%-REPEAT above steps every day on the other hand. i found a DELL monitor and a SAMSUNG branded monitor and plugged the same computers into them. No dimming occurs. Power manager settings work fine. This is specific to NEC Multicync monitors. The exact model i tested was a NEC Multisync EA244WMI LED

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I am having some issues regarding my laptop's brightness. Firstly, when I turn my laptop on, the brightness is always on pitch black so I can't see the screen. I have been on to all the settings and put the brightness as max for both when it is plugged into power, and not. And yet each time I switch it on, the brightness isn't on and the screen is completely black. Secondly, my brightness buttons are the wrong way round, so the button I should press to reduce the brightness actually increases it, and the button I should press to increase the brightness actually decreases it.Again I have looked in the settings and can't find anything there to change them - I haven't downloaded or installed anything that should have changed them, I literally use the laptop for microsoft office and the internet.  Please help

Hi all..

Before I pull out every last strand of hair... someone smarter than me, please come forward.

Thanks to the good advice here and the scan results, it seems that my problems may not be malware-related (right now).

The issues that I have been having are a little strange.. and seem to be connected to sound and touchpad now.

Volume settings won't stay in "up" position and I have no system startup sound anymore. Touchpad first started giving me errors that the advanced features were disabled because another device was in use, when it wasn't.

Touchpad cursor started jumping all over the place - had to plug in a mouse to do anything. I uninstalled, then reinstalled the touchpad and it works fine until I reboot.

Something from the last few days has wiped out all my System Restore points. So whatever it is, or was, that caused these changes has me puzzled. I've been dealing with this for 3 days straight and I've tried just about everything.

This is an older HP Pavilion laptop..zv6000 with AMD Athlon 64 processor, XP OS. A few episodes of freezing have happened today as well..or just "sticking" in one place for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng time.

Anyone who wishes to advise, I am ready to listen.

I would try to replace the CMOS battery with a new one, first.

http://www.zlectronic.com/product/NEW-CMOS-BIOS-BATTERY-FOR-HP-PAVILION-ZV6000-ZV6009EA.html , appears to be standard CMOS battery, CR2032, available anywhere batteries are sold.

If problems continued, I would be thinking serious problems with motherboard.

Hello,

I purchased a new computer the other day and it is running Windows 10 Home. One thing that's annoying me is that when I adjust the screen brightness through Control Panel it keeps getting undone. I don't want to squint when I look at my screen. I keep having to increase the brightness all the time. How can I set the brightness and have it stick? Thanks.

A few days ago, I downloaded the latest version of SlimDrivers to my laptop. The problem I have is that now every time I boot up my laptop I have to go into Cntrl Pnl/Pwr Options and turn the Brightness level (at bottom of screen) all the way up. In fact, it opens at nearly 20%, so dim I can hardly read it. I've tried to find ways of saving this setting, but I can't find anything yet. Can anyone help me here?

Thanks,

Well, I have installed Windows 8 on my laptop, but was wondering if there is a way to lock the screen brightness.
The reason being is that family members constantly mess with the brightness and sometimes leave it at 100% when using the battery. I basically want to extend the life of the battery if it is possible by disabling or locking the screen brightness at a certain level.

A:Lock Brightness settings?

Hello Ion,

Sure, you could specify a default setting for them in group policy (gpedit.msc), at the location below.

Code:
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Power Management -> Video and Display Settings

Hope this helps,

I am currently trying to run two games, Unreal Tournament 3 and Alien Swarm.
Here are my specs.
Intel quad core Q660
Nvidia 8800GT
4 gb Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate

The only problem with my system is that currently I'm using an old monitor... it has a refresh rate of only 60.
I am using the Nvidia drivers with the Nvidia Control panel and such.
The problem I'm having running these games is that they are just too dark :/
I mean the games themselves run smooth but I can barely see anything in them because the Games own brightness settings are too low even at max brightness for my computer apparently. When I use the Nvidia panel and turn up the brightness, I can see fine but in-game that brightness is resetted to the game default one. I want to know how to override the brightness settings of those games and use the brightness level of the Nvidia Panel. I somehow did it with counter strike and now its nice and bright but I really don't know the procedure.

A:Brightness settings on games.

In nvidia control panel for your desktop display properties, select use nvidia
settings instead of use application settings.
Then adjust your desktop brightness.
You will need to lower it to use the normal desktop brightness when not
playing games.
It's a pain that nvidia took out the 3D brightness and gamma settings.

I just noticed that any way to change my brightness for my laptop has gone. And it's currently stuck on max brightness, which hurts my eyes.

Usually the function buttons on the keyboard will do the trick, or the sliders in the taskbar/Control panel.

But suddenly it disappeared

I've checked out other posts and I can't seem to find any with the same situation.

Even the brightness slider on the mobility center isn't functioning too.

Thanks.

Andy, this makes it clearer versus my last reply! To fix the brightness problem, in 8.1 do this:1.) Right click on the windows icon on the bottom left hand corner. A menu pops up.2.) Click on Device Manager, then double click onDisplay Adapters and AMD Radeon HD8470D pops up. Double click on that. An AMD Properties box pops up. Click on Driver. Go down to Update driver and click on that. It may lessen brightness for the moment, so then go to Roll Back Driver and click it and that is all you need to do. Then go to setting in right hand corner, and you should be able to use the slide to change the brightness. It worked for me. I even turned off the computer, then turned it back on and the slide still works andchanges the brightness. Good luck.

Welcome to Seven Forums Nurein615. I think you can adjust it in BIOS with the down right keys (I hope they work!). Here is a (poorly made ) video that will illustrate how. Basically, F2 at boot, then video settings, then brightness. Don't go too bright as you have no left key to turn it back down! Good luck!

I recently reinstalled windows XP on my desktop, I was having some performance problems which I have attributed to a seven year old hard drive I was still using.
After installing I have noticed that settings will not stay the way I put them. My internet home page defaults to the same page -> www.iwantsearch.com and my folder settings reset themselves everytime I close them. A search toolbar keeps showing up in the toolbar of my folders and IE which I don't want. Can't make that go away either.

If anyone has any suggestions short of starting from scratch AGAIN, done that too many times, they would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time

So I am using an Acer Aspire One Netbook on Windows 7 64 bit. Recently I tried to lower my brightness using the Fn + left and right arrows and nothing happened. I tried updating my video drivers and I also updated the Acer launcher that handles the function buttons. All the other function buttons work. Then I went to adjust the brightness manually and to my surprise it is like brightness was deleted from Windows 7 completely. It is not in control panel. It's not in the god mode folder that I have. It's not under windows search. It does not dim like it used to when I unplug my netbook (I have it set to half brightness when unplugged) and the option to set brightness under power settings isn't even there anymore. The only thing I can think of is the last windows update that might have caused it. I've attached a screenshot of the updates I've recently installed. Not sure hot to handle this one but I am going nuts even using F.lux trying to work using full brightness. Somehow brightness just vanished from my system. I also will get terrible battery life because of this. Any help would be appreciated.

Alright, so get this: if I try and change the brightness settings in the Nvidia control panel, after moving the slider to darker or lighter, the screen will immediately adjust back to a standard brightness. This happens in games too. I'll find an area too dark and change the in game brightness and bam, it just reverts back. The thing is, the slider doesn't jump back or anything, the computer just adapts the new brightness so that it looks like the standard. Here are a couple of screenshots to visualize my rambling. Notice the gamma settings and the fact that regardless of which setting I chose, the screenshot brightness is literally exactly the same. This is not a monitor issue because 1) I've turned off all adaptive measures on my TV and 2) those are screenshots, they would not display the monitor settings.

Here is what happened to me in the past couple of days. I was using the latest beta drivers for my GTX 560 and apparently Windows 8 downloaded and installed either a previous driver or a corrupt driver and automatically installed it. So the next day I do my typical daily reboot and I get nothing but a black screen with no response at the part where I sign in.

So after researching on my phone, I kind of came to the conclusion that I described above. I downloaded Windows 8 today (since I did a digital upgrade from Windows 7) just to put it on a flash drive so I can refresh my PC. After refreshing my PC, I was glad to see the lock screen, sign-in screen, etc.

I have tried SFC /scannow, messing around with boot up services, and running apps.diagcab. Nothing is working! NVIDIA update components refuses to install as well and I'm sure other things aren't working properly.

A:PC Settings won't stay open

You can try installing nvidia drivers from safe mode. And about the PC settings not opening, does it show the blue screen and the it closes or it just wont do anything? If it shows the blue screen and then closes try doing a clean boot only leave Microsoft stuff running from startup and reboot like that. If it works, start enabling programs one by one. I had this problem and it helped me.

Running an online virus scanner to make sure the virus is gone would be a good idea.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

Try a search on your model of computer and look how to "reset touchpad to default settings". Make sure you're logged in as the administrator to make changes.

Also check in the device manager and see if the driver may have become corrupt. If so, you can replace it.

I have deleted/redone the connection several times. I am logged in as the administrator, I reinstalled IE from the XP disk. I have made sure that the settings are set the same in IE as in OE. I consulted with my ISP, netdoor.com, and they have made sure that all of the settings are set up correctly. They walk me through a cycle and the same thing occurs over and over. They can not understand why the settings will revert back to "Never dial a connection".

A:Connection Settings Won't Stay Set

I suspect that this is a problem with your eTrust Suite. They have some troubleshooting tips on their website. The troubleshooting tip, Sig Download Error - Connection Offline, Dial Out to Connect shows that the firewall portion can modify your dialup connection. For that particular problem they have a registry fix as follows:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\Anti-Virus\AutoDownload "ConnectAlways"=dword:00000001The 1 in the dword value indicates Yes, while a 0 would indicate a No. I realize that this is not your problem but it does show that the dialup settings are modified by that program. If you were to find that registry key it would be informative to know what it is set at. when i was running the windows 7 rc, everything ran well with my network settings.

today, i received my windows 7 party pack and installed the os. whenever i reboot the computer, i don't have internet access. i have to go to network and sharing center to go to the ipv4 settings to input the default gateway everytime. my nic is the intergrated realtekRTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. at first, i used the microsoft drivers from the os. i did update to the realtek drivers, but the same thing is happening.

i've also ran various ipconfig commands, but nothing i've been able to do seems to help. anything i'm missing?

A:network settings will not stay

thanks for the help, but problem solved.

Hi, I have a np9770 sager laptop and about a day ago the brightness settings no longer work and external monitors I plug in no longer work either. My version of 8.1 is fully updated with windows update. Nothing as far as I know changed but here is what I have tried to fix it:

1. Running driver sweeper in safe mode and reinstalling most recent drivers from nvidia.com
a. Running driver sweeper again in safe mode and installing drivers from the sagernotebook.com website
2. Uninstalling and scanning for hardware changes fo generic monitor in device manager
3. Running sfc /scannow in command prompt, nothing wrong
4. Updating chipset drivers from both the intel.com website and sagernotebook.com website
5. Rolling back windows to a restore point on the 12th of September, about 5 days ago
6. Creating another user account
7. Verified adaptive brightness is off in advanced power settings.

Odd things I found:
1. In device manager the gtx 980m display adapter has a warning triangle on it and this message when I double click on it:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
This has been constant throughout the whole ordeal
2. Whenever connecting a monitor as soon as I plug it in the monitor lights up as if it were going to work and just says hdmi not connected then goes to sleep. Nothing is detected in device manager.

I'll have to come back and add screenshots to this later - if they are needed - but what I want to do is remove the inactive (and thus un-needed) brightness control and keyboard control icons in the Settings Charm panel.

These icons appear on the right side of the six available icons in the Settings Charm (Windows + I for shortcut).

Also, I'm new to this forum, and as a former IT tech, I realize that information gets lost or misplaced. If this topic needs to be moved, forgive me, and I won't mind if this is moved.

A:Remove keyboard & brightness icons in Settings Charm?

They are a part of the coding for the Metro Interface. No way to remove them.

Here's some background on my situation. I'm running Windows XP Home under SP2 with a dialup internet connection. Under Tools->Internet Options-> Connections, I need the setting to be either "Dial Whenever a Network Connection is Not Present" or "Always Dial My Default Connection". However, if I set the Connection tab to one of these options and restart my computer, the option always resets itself to "Never Dial a Connection". Is there some way I can adjust my settings so that "Never Dial a Connection" is never selected?

I've been having this issue for about a month now and have searched everywhere for a solution with no luck. I have found plenty of forums and people experiencing similar issues with laptops or different video cards, but I haven't found a single answer as to how to actually fix this.

I got a new monitor recently - a Viewsonic VA2333-LED. I found that I didn't like the color settings and was not able to get the right color/gamma/brightness and contrast settings by using the monitor's menu. I have an Nvidia card, so next thing I did was to edit the color settings through the Nvidia control panel to just how I like them, I selected "Use NVIDIA settings", hit apply and saved the new settings. Looked great until I had to reboot my computer or it went into stand by at which point mysteriously the "Use NVIDIA settings" would become unchecked and my color was back to being an overexposed, bright white mess.

Next I tried the WIndows Color calibration. I went through the process saved the new color profile and set it as the default. Then, lo and behold, after my computer went to stand by, the color was right back to being crap. I even went so far as to delete the default profiles completely, leaving only my adjusted profile set as default. But again, when the monitor goes to stand by, the color settings that I created are lost. Here's the strangest part, when I enter the WIndows 7 color management screen, it still shows my profile as sele... Read more

OK new to me computer with vista ultimate 2 gig ram, intel quad core at 2.4, nvidia 8800 gtx sli ed. Put a new wide screen monitor on 28 " hanns-g 1080p. Well then I put my ms intellimouse in and installed the ms vista mouse software. Problem is I can go into control panel and change the speed of my mouse cursor and it's good for the session. If I log off or restart the mouse speed setting has revereted. The speed won't stay changed. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out! I am logged in as administrator when changing the mouse - same thing won't stay changed. Any ideas? Is this somehow a user profile issue in which vista won't let me keep the change as it might affect other users? What would I have to do to make the mouse speed stay changed?

Can I edit the registry key for the mouse speed directly?

Or do I need to mess with permissions or something - maybe a stupid question?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How do I get my folder settings LOCKED. Heres the situation, i am running win2k and have alot of music. About 180 cds worth in one folder called my music. The subfolders are each cd. In each folder i have a backround of the cd cover. However the settings keep resetting. I want the window size to stay the same, icons to stay in a list, and no status bar. Some of the folders reset periodically, and some stay. How do i get them all to stay for good. Id really appreciate an answer to this becuase its been bugging me for some time. ThanKs

A:FOLDER SETTINGS WONT STAY

Got to a folder that looks like you want them all to look like and click on Tools, Folder Options then click on the View tab and select the button to make all folders look like this one. If that does not work, you are not an administrator of the PC and don't have rights to do that. Log in as admin and try again.

I'm not sure if this is a common problem. Although considering this web page:

Change Vista Default Folder View / Make Folders Same | Geeky Drunk

it seems like it is.

I have tried to solve the problem by doing everything that's said in that web page, but it didn't work.

A:Folders won't stay in the same view settings.

Hell CastellanKat, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The link you have above only applies the changes to folders with the same folder template, and not all folders.

If you like, you could use the .reg file in Option One of METHOD TWO in the tutorial below to apply "Details" view to all folders.

Windows Explorer Folder View settings

Hope this helps,

I have recently upgraded my pc and re-installed my windows xp pro genuine advantage kit. All is well except my date and time settings won`t stay set. I have tried from the taskbar to reset and from the boot up settings. As soon as i shut down the pc, the next time i boot up it sets itself to 1/1/2005 00.01a m. I have tried to update from the internet time server but each time get an error message saying the last known configuration could not be found.
If anyone can help it would be great, this thing is driving me nuts. If it helps, the new motherboard is a winfast 6100K8MD and it has an amd 64 4000 processor.

So here is the problem I suddenly have - did use always bluetooth to synchronize calendar and contacts with Outlook 2007 on my PC and my mobile phone. Today suddenly the sync option has dissapeared, and when I go to settings from bluetooth tray icon, sync with Outlook is disabled. I enable all settings, click apply, OK, then I re-open settings window and all is disabled again What can it be? I'm out of ideas what to do now. So far did try:
updated broadcom bluetooth drivers

re-installed Outlook
Nothing has helped. Under XP (I have dual boot) I am able to use sync without any problems, just 7 doesn't more let me I am using built in Administrator account with UAC and DEP and such stuff all disabled.
Any ideas?

I've had a lot of problems with this computer's graphics and stuff being way too dark despite my monitor settings(that I set with the little wheel thingy on the monitor) of brightness and contrast being all the way. I could not figure out how to make the picture better after a lot of searching, but I tried again recently and found where to go (see first pic).

So I adjusted that stuff until I got it good. Then I saved it and checked the apply at startup box. But the problem is, it wouldn't apply the settings at startup. They were saved and everything and the box would still be checked, but the picture wasn't what I saved it as. All I'd have to do though is just select what I saved from the drop-down box but shouldn't it already be applied all the time? I'm guessing I'll have to adjust something in my System Config Utility in System Information but I dunno so I'm asking you.

Hello Nikak mate one of my machines is a G750JM ROG and I find most little irritations like that are fixed with a simple run of these
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs - you can leave out the /r switch if you think it not necessary.

Edit Forgot try updating the NVidia driver too
