Preferred Solution: CheckSUR error, files missing, most ATI files.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Howdy everyone,

I'm looking for undamaged copies of the files mentioned in the attached text file for a CheckSUR repair of my system. I've managed to track down a few more that were required and CheckSUR replaced them, but I'm still missing these. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. (Does the version matter in this case? If so it is Ultimate.)

Hello, I am trying to solve a BSOD problem.

Part of doing that involves fixing errors that appear in the event viewer.

For this post I wish to concentrate on removing eventID 3010 errors.

I have run sfc /scannow in the last couple of days (been working on this problem for about 7 days now).

As you can see I have a few outstanding errors, there were a lot more, but I have followed two guides:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee619779(v=ws.10).aspx and
The Tech Cookbook – Fixing Windows Update Agent issues (version 320 and 256) which removed/solved/reduced the errors down to what it is now.

I presume one of the issues I have is that the version of ie on my install disk is not the same as the one being asked for.

As for what win8ip is or where to download it from...well that's what led me to here...

I have not started to find out what to do with the "Missing Deployment Key" entries yet.

I am hoping that, for this part of my fix, someone will provide me with the missing files and explain how to deal with the 'other' stuff in the checkSUR.log. I believe once SURT works without error, then the events should not appear in the event viewer, ie be resolved.

Lots of copy'n'paste below...

Hello everyone,

This week I started updating my win7 to win10 as the free period is almost there.
I had a couple of updates not done yet, so I ran windows update before the win10 update.

Almost everything updated except one package (an update for IE11) that fails with an error x80073712.

If I run directly the win 10 upgrade, I get an error 0x80070004. Probably for the same root reason, corrupted updates.

I've checked the different solutions to fix this and found the "sfc /scannow" command and how to run the CheckSUR.exe.

I already fixed most of the issues that came out (all related to corrupted update files) but the log now shows errors with the manifests and I don't know how to fix them.

Here is the output of the Log file:

I've got a situation here whereby .TMP files are appearing in network directories, and the files are going missing. The size of the TMP file matches the original file.
I'm trying to narrow down the issue, because I think there may be two problems here.
1. Offline Files are enabled, to allow profile redirection.    It seems that this is also by default, is allowing Clinet Side Caching when there are network issues.  Does the original file (.doc for example)  get renamed
as a HR234.TMP for example when the Slow link detection sees slow performance?
2.  If the above TMP file is created when there are network issues, should this resolve itself (sync itself back to the network) when performance improves?
Currently we are in a situation where we have a department that have files missing from many network shares, all the missing files seemlingly replaced with a .TMP file, so do we have to go round to every machine in the department, and manually
sync them to resolve this?

I've recently upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10 enterprise. I have onedrive account with files synced to cloud, before upgrading i've backed up onedrive files locally in my computer. Some of those files can't be opened after upgrade, formats include
.docx and .xlsx and .png. Most of these files were in direct onedrive main/root folder rather than in subfolders. As i can see those images in subfolders can be opened but not doc and excel files.

How can i view those files again, why have they become corrupt, what could I do in future to prevent these problems

My wife received a popup box warning about a problem with the hard drive. She called me over and we didn't click OK but the damage must have already been done.

All of the files appear to be gone. All of the program files and documents that should be in my documents appear empty. Thanksfully I could see GMER scanning all of these missing files so it looks like they are just hidden. I am not taking any action to recover these as I know how that can cause other virus issues so I am just waiting for help.

The computer seems to be working OK in that I have internet access and the programs that show up in the upper left of the start menu can be launched (IE, Outlook, and a Bridge Game that I play) but all of the other 'All Programs' appear empty.

I have been trying to encrypt a folder using PGP 9.0.6 and Cryptainer Secure It 3.1.7.

What's weird is that the folder and the files within it will not encrypt and I don't know why? Further more the folder will actually be missing files. Can anybody explain to me? No, I am not setting the applications to erase files after completion.

PGP Conventional Encryption has worked finally. I tried all the obvious stuff first like closing all non-essential volumes (virtual disk that are created and encrypted by PGP), transferring the files to another drive, etc.

On a slightly separate issue. I did have some data corruption involving an older and separate group of files. However I deemed that to a hardware failure or a OS/Software failure. Figured it might provide valid insight.

Update: Now my PGP conventional encryption, non .exe file generation worked. I don't understand why it wouldn't work? Going to rename the source folder and try again. MY encrypted .exe file generation with PGP should work.

I tried again. PGP conventional encryption and PGP Zip both encrypted fine. I tried creating a PGP .exe file and again it failed and files are missing; why?

I've done a full virus scan and spyware scan. No known threats detected that would cause this. I've done two system wipes in the past months. I've also removed, reinstalled, and or repaired the installation of both a... Read more

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

HiJackThis often reports file as not found. This is an issue with HiJackThis alone, and nothing to do with your computer. This is nothing to worry about.

I need to take two logs from your computer. This should get the results for SFC, System Restore, and that service error.

Please copy C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and then upload it here.

Please download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop
Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.
Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left
Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).
Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run
Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad
Please copy and paste its entire contents into your next reply

I've had this computer (HP Pavilion dv2000)for about 4 years and despite my best efforts it's started to get a little bogged down.. SO a while ago I used some free registry cleaning software (Eusing Registry Cleaner, Window Registry Repair & Registry Repair Wizard 2011) to try to get rid of clutter on my lap top in hopes that it would run a little better. I know, I know, let me save everyone the time of telling how stupid it was to do this when I don't know that much about computers! SO as you can imagine after my little cleaning spree I started having some weird problems but mostly related to Internet Explorer. I tried to undo whatever I did but nothing worked. I actually had to stop using IE all together because I kept getting errors and couldn't get to some websites at all. It seemed to be a security setting issue but no matter what changes I made nothing would fix it. So I switched to Firefox which has been a lot better but not perfect. So now its pretty obvious that my computer is missing some files? .... drivers? ....something because I am basically unable to execute most setup files that I download and my Norton anti-virus seems to not be able to run its periodic scans correctly. Lately the computer seems to be worse, buggy, slow, freezes up and I suspect that there is a virus somewhere but no virus scan, adware scan, etc. that I've been able to run (Spy Bot, Bit Defender) finds anything and I'm to afraid to even look at the registry now... Hi all, very nice to finally be a part of the community! Hope you can solve my problem.

My first problem was I was missing a winsrv file and kept getting blue screens @ the boot screens, I couldn't even access safe mode. Now, I'm finally able to get on my computer but it feels like its been injected with loads of viruses. When I was finally able to log on, all my start up programs had missing .Dlls and weren't working. I also receive the 'Explorer.exe - Application Error' (The instruction at 0x704b2309 referenced memory at 0x000000b. The memory could not be written). From time to time I'm also oddly getting redirected to different websites when I google something.

I've tried system restore but I got an error saying there were no system restore points to go to . I'm a little bit scared to re install vista because I'm a music producer, and have work that isn't complete yet. I also have over 2000 songs in my library that I just don't have the time get back.

I'm very limited to what I can do on my PC (most things I try end up in "not responding")

My operating system is Windows Vista.

Thank you

Insert recovery disk or drive" I want to restart it because my computer had randomly switched to a temporary profile, than i fixed it but the "temporary" profile was the new one I had to use and there are many messed up things happening with it. I do not have any disk or my windows activation code. Also, I have used a partition manager before to change the size of one of my partitions (The windows one) Thanks! -Supah

Unwanted encoding messages on opening MSWord files. Inability to open MSExcel files and picture files. Apparently corrupted files?I am having problems opening .doc and .xls and .jpg files in some (but not all) folders in my folder tree, e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\Folder X. However, Folders Y and Z are apparently unaffected. This has arisen only recently. My system is Windows XP (Home), and SP2 upgraded to SP3.MSWORD EXAMPLE:- On opening a Word file (whether from Word or from Windows Explorer) I receive this dialog box;"File Conversion - (filename).doc""Select the encoding that makes your document readable." The already selected button is "Other encoding" and the suggested code is "Japanese". The preview pane shows only an array of characters, all the same.On trying to select the button "Windows (Default)", the preview changes to a continuous array of lower-case xxxxxxx. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Auto-Select", the selected code returns itself to "Japanese" with the display as already noted above. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Western European (Windows)", the display reverts to the Windows Default style as already noted above, lines of xxxxxxx. Hi all,

My ultimate goal is to install the Windows 7 Platform update which right now fails.

SFC /scannow reports corrupt files unable to fix.
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool, it reports Update error 80073712 as not fixed.
I also run the system upgrade readiness tool.

The logs indicate a problem with the XPS files (which can't be repaired due to missing manifests). Disabling XPS in 'Turn Windows Feature On/Off' has not helped.

I have attached the CBS and CheckSUR logs. Hoping somebody can help - how do I repair files when I don't have the repair files/manifests??

A:Update error 80073712 / missing XPS manifest files

Hi Uwajimaya,

You will need to run these steps to fix the issue:

Close all programs, and then restart your computer.
Insert the Windows DVD into the computer's disk drive. Wait for Setup to start. If Setup doesn't start automatically, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then type Drive:\setup.exe in the search box, where Drive is the letter of your computer's DVD drive (for example, D:\setup.exe).
In the Programs list, click Setup.exe.

Click Install Now.
Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
If you're asked for it, type the Windows Product key.
In the Which kind of installation do you want? window, click Upgrade.
When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then run Windows Update.
Cheers and hope this helps!

Hello all...

This other day my computer crashed and rebooted while I was surfing the net. When Windows was back on, it gave me this message: "One of the files containing the systems data in the registry, had to be restored from a log or a copy. The restoration was completed" (Please note it might in fact have been a slighty different message, as I'm translating it from danish to english - but I think it's pretty close).

Ok well... I recently run a couple of disc-defragmenting because it had been negleted for a while, Also about a week ago I was helping my cousin finding some basketball pictures through google for school work. Some of the links for the pictures instead ended up showing hose annoying pop-ups about "Oh darn... You have like a bazillion malware files - Click "Ok" to abort this very effective scan. or "cancel" to continue etc.". Well later that day I ran every Antivirus, Antimalware etc. I had: Spybot, Ad-aware, eTrust, Spywareblaster, Malwarebytes and Spyhunter... The 2 latter I just installed, suspecting my normal programs weren't doing the trick. Spyhunter found a number of "issues" in the registry - "hkey_users\default\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\zonemaps\escdomains"... Surfing a bit around on the web and in the registry it seemed it was something created by Spybot. I deleted Spyhunter and ignored the "issues". I was going a bit through the re... Read more

Can someone review my HJT log? I did a scan to see if I could find anything suspicious because my computer has recently been a bit laggy and I can't figure out why. I keep it clean with AdAware, Symantec Professional, Spybot, RegClean, and I also defrag at least once a week or every 2 wks. So I am at a stand-still on why it's laggin, therefore I ran a HJT scan and came up with the following "missing files":

dimsntfy.dll (Winlogon Notify entry) (which I manually searched and found it in System32 and ServicePackFiles\i386 folders even though it said it was missing)

jqs.exe (Java Quick Starter Service entry) This is a new service since the latest java update that seems to run continuously in my processes even though I read online that it was only supposed to run during bootup, then stop. I found this file also in Program Files\Java\jre6\bin.

Can someone review my HJT log and tell me if i can click the "fix checked" button to remove these entries without causing any problems? Thanks.

Hello friends,

I am in a bit of a bind. I simply clicked the "show hidden files" option on my C:/Users folder. Inside of 20 seconds, my libraries are all rearranged and none of my files are where I put them originally. They have seemingly vanished.

I downloaded ShadowExplorer and thankfully confirmed that I can still open my files when I refer back to an earlier restore point within the program, but when I go to restore the files, they don't go back to where I send them. I don't know where my files are, nor how to access them outside of this ShadowExplorer program.

I did try a regular 'ol Windows system restore, but those don't affect files, so the problem remains. Anyone have any idea what the hell I did and how I might go about fixing it?

Thank you immensely for your consideration.

A:Show hidden files --> Files now missing

Hello Snapdragon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have not already, see if checking the "don't show hidden files" option will revert them back to how you had them before.

Double check the libraries to make sure that the folders you had included in them are still included.

In addition, see if setting each library to View -> "Sort by -> Name", "Group by -> (None)", and "Arrange by -> Folder" may reveal them.File and Folder Arrangement - Group by - Sort by - Arrange by

I have Windows XP and run Avast as my security tool. Yesterday while just browsing the internet my Avast tool started going crazy blocking things left and right and running programs in its 'sandbox'. I thought it was taken care of and then i started receiving pop ups of hard drive errors. I ran the typical hard drive tests with no problems and ran a virus scan but Avast was not finding anything. I rebooted only to find a large number of my files/folders missing (soem were very important documents and pictures)and the hard drive messages popping up quite frequently. The speed of the computer/internet has severly slowed as well.

I downloaded MalwareBytes and it found to files that i deleted. However, everytime i restart the computer and run MalwareBytes, it is still finding stuff.

How do I get rid of this hiddent worm, trojan, whatever it is for good so it wont be creeping back in?

Okay so i was doing your usual conversion of a FAT32 drive to NTFS using Paragon partition manager. It was my external 500gb lacie hard drive (H and to my horror i returned from class to see my computer had rebooted during the process. It was my own human error as i forgot to stop the windows update process in the command prompt.

Now i couldnt afford to let my pc convert it in the saftey of a no OS environment that day because i had to write an essay, but now im wishing i had. The problem is around 80% of my files are now no longer showing on the drive, but the space for them is still allocated. That lead me to the conclusion theyre still on the drive.

I decided to finish the conversion on Paragon which kept bringing up an error. After running a CHKDSK /F fix acronis carried on the operation as per normal and reached 100%. STILL MY FILES WERE MISSING.

I then decided to run numerous recovery programs to see if i could find the files. However they all picked up zilch...

My final idea was to run the seriously time consuming CHKDSK /R as a last ditch attempt. All was going well until it came up with an "unspecified error" at the end of stage 5. Now im all out of ideas...

I am going to try defraging and running CHKDSK /R again to see if the error is a reccuring one... If it is then im stumped. Its just really annoying because my files are still on there! The space is allocated but theyre just not showing up!!!! ARGH!

A while ago I had some problems with virus/malware on my computer (redirect virus and fake anti virus program). I think I removed them but have still have been having some issues. For starters my start menu and all programs were suddenly empty, I managed to get the program files back but most of the sub files remain empty. I attempted to run unhide.exe some time ago with no luck. Also, on start up my notepad pops up with '[.ShellClassInfo] [email protected]%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787dRe' which I've also attempted to fix but have been unable to.

I'm running windows vista home premium 32bit and currently am using free versions of AVG and Kaspersky, neither of which are detecting any issues at the moment.

Good evening, everyone.

So, I got a new ASUS tablet for Christmas. The OS was Windows 8, but it kept telling me to update to Windows 8.1 or else I wasn't able to download any apps or so. To do that, I had to look for updates with Windows Update first. When all the updates were ready to go, I went to the Store and tranfered Windows 8.1. Then it told me to reboot. So I did. And, when I do that, the thing tells me that there's some kind of error. I wasn't able to do a system restore or a repair or a recovery or what so ever. Nothing worked. So, I did what everyone does in such a situation. I went online and looked for a solution. I came across this site: Fixing the Windows Bootloader via the setup DVD. I followed its' instructions, but I must have done something wrong...

On "attempt three" (on the link) I couldn't manage to find that C:\Boot he talks about. It kept telling me that it couldn't find the patch. So, I thought, "maybe it's something else..." and I took the patch from the "Windows Boot Manager" thing that appeared somewhere... and I must have done something or deleted something when following the instructions... and now there is no way I can get it to work.

Can someone pleaaaase help me? I'm usually pretty handy with technology but I've never worked with tablets and I personaly dislike Windows 8.

Thank you so much for yout time and attention!

A:Windows Boot Manager, missing files error in ASUS Tablet

The error message appears to say that it can't find \Windows\System32\winload.exe
It's most likely one of the following:
- missing from the disk
- the BCD entry is misconfigured
- there may be disk problems (hardware)

Are you able to access the System Repair menu?
Can you get into a Command Prompt?

If not, then I'd have to suggest resetting the system to it's factory state.
If unable to do that, then I'd request recovery media from Asus to restore it

If it's still within the return policy period, you may just want to return it and avoid all of the hassles.

Good luck!

You have some registry corruption which needs to be fixed before we can get a true picture of the situation with the files.

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or SkyDrive) and post a link.

I would very much appreciate some help finding my missing files and folders if possible.

I am running windows Vista version 6.0, service pack 2.

I started windows, and noticed that 5 of my desktop folders were missing, and all of the files contained within. A search for document and folder names returned nothing (even with advanced search options). One of the missing folders was called "term 1". I created a new folder, and tried to change the name to term 1. A pop-up told me that this destination (desktop) already contained a folder named "term 1"- did I want to merge these folders? I was confused, because I could no longer see the original term 1 folder. I clicked "yes" hoping that a merge would result in a visible term 1 folder, but now the new folder also disappeared. After some intensive searching, I could not find any of the folders/files that were missing. Some other folders/files were still visible on my desktop though.

I restored my computer to a previous checkpoint (from 2 days ago, after a windows update). After reboot, I received a message that the restore was unsuccessful. At this point, all of my desktop folders and files were gone, aside from windows default desktop icons. A search returned no results. I remembered that restore can fail because of an AV program, so I disabled Norton. I tried to undo the restore, which was successful, but no files/folders returned. I then tried to do a restore to a checkpoint from befor... Read more

What reported the hdd to be in a bad state?
Most all hdd manufacturer's have diagnostic tools which you can download as an ISO file, you then can burn this to a CD and boot from it to run the diagnostic test.  If you will pull the hdd out and post the manufacturer I will post a link to a site where you can download the file.

I apologize in advance for posting this twice. I think I may have put it originally in the wrong area.

No problems with that now but I still have some issues that haven't been corrected and I don't have a windows XP CD. It didn't come with my computer and I never bought one. Here's the problems I've noticed just so far......

1) No search option under start, search. Nothing shows but a blank box and the dog. I have no way to do a search for files or to choose options for a search.

2) In my control panel, when I click on both IE troubleshooting link and Network Diagnostics link does nothing.

3) I have no system restore. When I click on it, it does nothing.

4) I switched to Firefox as my browser since I encountered all of the problems with trojans, etc. so I can't get windows updates unless I use IE. When I click on IE and go to tools, windows update, I get a blank page. Nothing on it. It's the same way if I go directly to the microsoft homepage and try it from there. Blank page again.

5) No way to use windows media player. Apparently I downloaded something with my current version and now it's disabled and had to be uninstalled. I installed a new version but after the set up, I received an error message and it closes right up. I don't even have time to write down what it says.

Now, the programs I have downloaded to fix my problems with ads and trojans or... Read more

Thanks to anyone who can help. I've searched for this topic and haven't found anything that worked for me. I posted this topic a couple days ago but just now it didn't show up; sorry if I've double-posted.

When I cancel, I get "The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator."

I checked and confirmed that I am the admin on my PC, and all accounts are set up with full access privileges to these folders. I also tried rebooting in safe mode and logging on as "Administrator" and running the .exe from a flash drive.

I think I had similar problems loading an XP Office Upgrade a few months ago; I finally just gave up. I have Spybot Search and Destroy; it says I'm clean, for whatever that's worth.

First time on this forum, so I hope I chose the right category to post my problem. I just got a new laptop, and it has Vista Home Premium.

My problem.. I use a program/application called "DVArchive" (aka: DVA) for archiving my tv shows on my PC (from my ReplayTV). This application worked just fine on XP, but of course, Vista is giving me all kinds of crap.

The application IS working.. It can see my ReplayTV unit, I can access my archived shows, etc. However, Vista is giving me error messages, which are interfering with it and making it crash.

The problem has to do specifically with the applications configuration (.XML) files. I'm pretty tech saavy, but I'm not a computer expert, so I'll just cut and paste the actual error messages below. The listed pathways are where DVArchive stores it's files...
