ThinkPad E560 Battery Issue

Q: ThinkPad E560 Battery Issue

Hello, dear community. Yesterday I got this message when turning on my ThinkPad E560:"The battery installed is not supported by this system..."Therefore the laptop does not turn on without a power cable attached and shuts down immediately if I unplug the cable after it booted. The thing is that I only have a genuine battery that was delivered with this laptop. I bought this laptop only 2 weeks ago, and it worked perfectly fine until now. Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I am having trouble booting from a 2nd HDD installed where the DVD ROM goes I have tried with both SDD & HDD configurations on 3x E560 PCs that I have for work & none work On the E550 it works perfect although this has a different looking BIOS I am using the latest BIOS with these E560s The BIOS does not see the 2nd HDD at all in Boot Options If I boot into Windows the the 2nd HDD is seen as an external drive This issue feels like a problem with BIOS, I wonder if anyone else has encountered this problem & found away to overcome it Any suggestions are welcome Thanks in advance for your help

A:ThinkPad E560 Booting From 2nd HDD Caddy Issue

Hello and welcome,

How was the drive in the caddy made bootable?  Was the OS installed while the drive was in the caddy on the machine in question - where it fails?

Are you booting in legacy or UEFI mode?

Are you booting the same drive (with the same OS on it, not reinstalling the OS) in the machine that works and the one that doesn't?

I'm wondering if the 560 is UEFI and teh 550 is legacy.

Z.

Hi, all, I have a new Thinkpad E560 with Windows 7 Pro that has what looks like an intermittent memory problem.  I created a USB drive from the instructions at http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm  (I tried both Linux and Windows versions).  The system does not recognize the USB drive at boot time.  I have bothe Legacy and UEFI boot options enabled and have tried giving each priority.  Nothing I do will allow the system to recognize the USB drive at boot time.  I tried crateing the USB image with both Windows and Linux commands; no difference.Normally I would say this is a bad USB image except - the USB drive boots fine from an Oracle VirtualBox session.  And a Linux boot USB drive created from a VirtualBox session is recognized and boots just fine on startup. At this point I'm at a loss.  Obviously there is something in hte E560 boot code which does not allow this particular image to be recognized, although another one is.  And VirtualBox recognizes the boot image just fine, also.Any idea what in the boot process would not allow the USB drive to be recognized?  I'd really like to get this booting so I can determine if I do actually have a memory problem or not.TIA.

Hi, first of all to start I know that this is user based, but I don't know how to get in touch with actual customer support.  I bought a Thinkpad E560 laptop with an i7 core processor in 2015 for use with school and used it lightly everyday. It would travel in my backpack to and from school, and never got bumped around or had fallen. Slowly in 2016, it started to have issues with the screen, and I thought it had been fixed by purchasing a new screen and but the problems steadily arose. We then thought it was the graphics cable so we changed that to find that it didn't work at all. I took it into the shop again and they looked and found it was the board failure after trying different parts to make it function.  I thought this was strange because I only had had it for abot a year and 3 months at that point which seemed like an awfully short time to have it fail on me like that.  I had bought a Lenovo because I had watched so many reviews and it seemed like the best choice for me at the time because I needed a powerful laptop. I didn't think that light every day usage would resort in the board failing within a year and 3 months. I only bought warranty for a year because I was sure that it was going to last me a long time. I saw that other people had issues with the e560. Is there anything I can do at this point? Or am I just out of luck? It was my first Lenovo product

Hi all, It has been about a month since I received the new X1 Extreme, and it has been quite good so far, but today, for some unknown reason, I've run into some apparent battery issues. I charged my computer overnight yesterday, and when I tried using it in class today, it wouldn't start. The red light on the ThinkPad logo wasn't flashing at all, so something was off. I tried turning it on many times, but nothing happened.  When I came home, I plugged it in and it allowed me to turn it on, but it was stuck at 46% charge and wouldn't move (even after an hour - a period of time sufficient to charge the computer up to 80%). Then, as I was writing this post, a loud 2 bell ringing sound came on and the computer shut down. When I started it up again (connected to the AC adapter), the Lenovo Vantage battery icon displayed an "X" and the Windows battery appeared empty. I made sure to back up everything and updated BIOS and other drivers just in case, but nothing seemed to work. If I disconnect the AC adapter, the computer immediately dies. Like this, the computer is no longer useful to me since I need it on the go.  I'll contact Lenovo support once my schedule frees up a bit, but if this has happened before and you've found a solution, I'd like to get this back to normal as soon as possible. Thanks,  Reilly

Hello,I have a user here who has a T460s laptop who's batteries are no longer holding a sufficient charge. Pretty sure the laptop has 2 (internal) batteries. When the use takes the laptop out of the office, it's losing power afterabout an hour, maybe an hour and a half. After an hour, I was able to open a chat session with a tech, who said if we clicked on the battery icon down in the sys.tray, there'd be an indicator if the battery/batteries were bad. However, we did that and there is no such indicator oralert. Clicking on the same batttery icon and then clicking on Battery Settings, there are no notifications posted in the windowthat opens giving any indication of any issues with the batteries. Despite that, the batteries no longer retain the charge they once did. Is there any onboard diagnostic that can be run to determine which, or both batteries are bad?  Or any other locationwhere there might be helpI need to weigh the cost of replacing the batteries vs. having the user get a new laptop. Thanks very much! Jim

HelloThis is my first post here and I feel completely lost because I couldn't find any information on this topic anywhere.I bought a new Thinkpad E560 and unfortunately it has the most annoying audio driver I have ever seen. Conexant SmartAudio seems to be the only driver available for this laptop but I would pay to use whichever other one.The Conexant driver has some internal setting to pop up a window (on the pic) every time I (dis)connect something in the audio jack (this window is always on top of any other window on the laptop screen so it really can't be ignored). I have not found an option to turn this pop-up off. In addition, this is not a traditional windows window- I must choose one option from the "audio devices" list and then press the microscopic "X" to close it. Sometimes when I try to do it fast, the window freezes and I have to shut down the program from task manager. What is this? It seems like a very lazily executed program and not an official driver for a working laptop but unfortunately Lenovo has chosen this for whatever reason. How can I start using another driver when no others are officially meant for the E560?Thanks in advance!Karl

I have a 17-day old new Thinkpad E560.  Spilled about a teaspoon of white wine on the keyboard when I jostled the glass (it didn't tip over).  Keyboard started acting flaky, spontaneously producing long series of a's and 1's.   While I couldn't see any evidence of remaining liquid after dabbing up what small amount was evident, I figured a trickle may have seeped inside, and let it dry overnight. 24 hours I tried again, and while there was no erratic behavior, about a third of the keys -- while they felt normal -- were non-functional. I recalled that the Lenovo specs for this model say it has a Spill Resistant keyboard.  But I see no open holes on the back of the case.  And I pulled out the keyboard and see it has plastic across its entire back.  Clearly this isn't a Spill Resistant keyboard.  How can the Lenovo specs, and many resellers' advertising, tout that it *is* Spill Resistant?

I would like to ask if anyone knows if there is a way to get the original image (factory new) from a factory restore? I am asking because I wanted the Windows 10 Pro that was offered with my laptop. I selected Windows 7 Pro a couple of years ago because the business software I was using wasn't compatible but the new version is. I did the restore but it automatically installed Windows 7 Pro again and did not ask me what OS to use.

I purchased my Thinkpad around December-January time, and ever since there have been some reoccurring issues. For one, with the keyboard, occasionally some keys stick: say I'll be holding down the S key and then release, sometimes it keeps acting as if it's still being held. Also, the entire numberpad has ceased to function; around this time last week it worked perfectly fine, I used to use the calculator, lock, internet and file explorer buttons at the top of the number pad all the time, but one day they just stopped working. The numbers themselves, as well as the NumLock key and all the others, also don't work. I've tried restarting, performing scans, installing drivers and all sorts, but with no luck.  Finally, with the mousepad, occasionally sections of it will stop working. As I type this, I can use the right hand side of my mousepad to move the mouse, but the left side won't work at all. Sometimes it will change, with the center of the mousepad not working, whereas the very right and left of the mousepad do. Usually reinstalling a driver or restarting the computer fixes this, but it keeps happening and is very frustrating. This laptop is only a few months old, I'm not too pleased with the problems that keep popping up, and I'm hoping someone can be of help! Thank you

I've looked at the config utility Lenovo offer and the E560 isn't in the supported list, and when running WMI scripts, no output is obtained. Does anyone know a way this might be possible as it's going to be very time consuming changing this manually for everyone! Thanks in advance.

Hello all,   I have a new ThinkPad E560 arriving in a couple days and had a question regarding the hard drive.  The drive the notebook will be coming with is a 500GB 7200rpm platter drive.  Near as I can tell from my research, this drive will be 7mm thick. I have several spare 9.5mm hybrid drives of larger capacity and would like to use one of these instead.  Does anyone know if the E560 had enough room to fit the thicker 9.5mm drive? Thank you in advance for any help with this, mbccr

I'm supporting T460s and T560s for my job and in the last month have had 3 battery issues occur out of no where. I'm using Windows 10 64-bit. I'd like to find a solution from the forums or at least a way to find what is causing this so I can plan for other laptops to go bad.  In the last month, I've dealt with 3 Thinkpads that have had a sudden change of heart about finding Battery #2. Nothing special happened. I booted, looked at the system information to see if this one has the specs to setup for a specific user and BAM - "Battery 2 not found". I was really hoping to get this all setup and out to a user who's using a 5 year old laptop.  I've ran Lenovo's System Update; I've updated Windows; I've downloaded the Power Management software from Lenovo yet still this battery is not found. I took it apart to ensure the battery was seated correctly. I re-imaged it from an image from last summer. Nothing.  Are these faulty batteries? Does that battery recall need to be expanded again? Is it the Motherboard? Is this a string of bad luck? How do I identify what the cause is? I refuse to believe this is coincidence.

Hello, I have an issue switching on my laptop since two days ago and I am not sure if the problem is with my laptop's external battery, the motherboard or the power charger. My laptop model is on the list of laptops affected by lenovos battery recall so maybe the issue is with the battery. But then theres also this:- With the external battery in the laptop and the charger plugged in, the laptop powers up and displays "Error 0190 : Critical low battery error" and then switches off.  I looked this error up in my laptops manual and it says that I should replace the system board-The laptop also doesn't run with the charger plugged in and the battery removed, so does this mean the charger is broken as well?

A:ThinkPad (T430) battery compatibility issue

HelloThe batteries for T410/420 are not compatible with T430, even Lenovo genuine ones. Because of T430 features hardware authentification of the battery installed. The batteries for old laptops like T410/420 don't have such features (authentification chips inside). This chip missing causes the battery being installed in the T430 can't be charged. So, you have to purchase Lenovo original battery for T430.

UPD
Lenovo original batteries for T430 are backward compatible with T420

Any other ideas on how I can fix it or am I going to need to send it back?

Ever since I bought my ThinkPad E560 almost three months ago, I've experienced horizontal black lines or spots on videos I watch online.  They're limited to the video box, not the entire screen.  (I've taken a snapshot of a video with this problem, but can't find a way to include it with this message.) When I enlarge the picture to full screen, they usually disappear, but reappear when I shrink the picture back to its default size. I already reported this problem when I brought my laptop to Lenovo's service center to fix a variety of problems, including this one.  The technician there said he couldn't spot any black line/spot on a video when testing it out.  He added that he replaced the laptop's motherboard. But the black lines/spots remain after I tested my laptop at home. I should add that this problem doesn't appear when I watch YouTube videos.  However, videos on YouTube, along with those that I downloaded or have on DVD, appear choppy (i.e., images look like they're not aligned correctly), especially when there's a lot of action onscreen. I wonder if this is a hardware issue.  My laptop has two display adapters: an AMD Radeon R7 M370 and an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520.

Our computer arrived this week, and we find that when we stream a television show,  it repeatedly drops the wifi connection. Power management is set to high performance, so that's not it. Concerningly, it regularly insists, after losing wifi connection, that it cannot even find our router, and sometimes when it does, it finds it, attempts to connect, and then says, "Can't connect to this wifi." But all the other devices in the house are connecting fine, and all lights on the router are steady-on. Any suggestions? It's currently much easier to watch a show on the old computer than the new, alas.

Hi, I just bought the Thunderbolt 3 dock and remembered reading that you have to make some changes in BIOS for the usb hub to be detected in linux. So I entered BIOS and disabled thunderbolt security and enabled some other thunderbolt feature (the one below thunderbolt security, the tooltip tells you to enable this for linux support and older versions of windows 10). After saving and rebooting all I see is a blank screen and the fans start going at full speed. The computer does not boot into my OS and I am not able to enter BIOS again. Any ideas how I can fix this? Is there a way to factory reset the BIOS without entering it? Usual solution here is to remove the CMOS battery but I really don't want to open my brand new laptop unless I know my warranty is still valid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
