Q: Lenovi Yoga 2 pro Motherboard serial # YB04985251

My Yoga 2 pro laptop serial YB04985251 motherboard went dead all of a sudden and now i sent it to the authorized agent in Egypt and they said that the motherboard should be changed and the estimated cost is EGP 6,600 equivalent to USD 744 . I originally bought this laptop at USD 1300 in June 2014 from USA and my use is limited to Microsoft Office applications, browsing and watching movies. It's worth noting that this is a core I7 ultrabook and when i originally bought it I was in between this laptop and The MacBook. However, I went for the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and now I am expecting that the motherboard to be changed free of charge as this is something I have never experienced. It's worth noting that before buying this laptop i was using Dell XPS 15' and it's still functioning till date (starting 2009). I contacted Lenovo and they said it's out of warranty. is that normal, I buy an I7 ultrabook 2 years ago and the motherboard goes bust all of a sudden and now they tell me it's out of warranty and that I should pay almost $750.Any suggestions??? Appreciate your kind feedback, Very best regards,Loay Hossny

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just replaced the mainboard on my Yoga 900-13ISK2 and now BIOS shows no serial number or product.  I've seen other posts where they say you can use a bootable BIOS update utility to add those values back in but 1) I only find the windows executable version in the support.lenovo.com site and 2) I already have the lates BIOS version and even the Windows executable version will not continue when you already have the latest version.   Any ideas on how to fix this?  I was hoping the new mainboard would make my Yoga like new, so this is annoying. Thanks! Mike

Hi, Has anyone had any success using the N23 Yoga Chromebook and a USB serial adapter.  I have verified that my USB-A port is good but I have tried several different USB to Serial Adapters and none of them are being recognized.  Several hours of research today led me to a suggestion that requires modifing a file in the root filesystem "android.hardware.usb.host.xml" and I would rather not do that.   Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,Kevin

Since then I have been unable to use the two ports, and I have looked up multiple guides on how to fix this. Nothing has worked, and I have run out of options. I do not have the disk anymore for the drivers.

my motherboard wasn't working so i replaced it, and downloaded windows,. and reinstalled using the same serial number and it says the serial number is already in use (obviously)

so my windows 10 license is stuck to a dead motherboard... how can i transfer it to my new one?

what is the solution to this?

thanks

A:Replaced Motherboard, wont let me use same serial # to activate

Hello endorush85, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You could try using the Activation troubleshooter to see if you may be able to activate Windows this way.

Activation Troubleshooter - Use in Windows 10

If not, then you should be able to activate by phone if this isn't an OEM license.

I have recently restored an HP DV7 3063cl laptop that died from an overheated motherboard (MB). I replaced the MB with a new board from HP when the price was reduced to about $100, upgraded the CPU with an advertised as new AMD 640M, and applied Arctic Silver on both the CPU and Graphics chips. I put in 4 G of fresh memory, got the computer to operate, and installed Windows 10. However, I have several problems: The BIOS cannot locate the serial number of the motherboard during the boot process and sends a message to the effect. I hit the Enter key the boot continues. I have tried to access the BIOS to enter the serial number or other possible solutions I found on line. One HP help forum had a BIOS editing software tool from Compaq from the year 2000 but said that it only would on desktops and the HP staff would have to provide a revised BIOS for my laptop. 2. I get two more error messages thatPXE -E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROMI have not seen any fixes for this issue but it only delays the booting process shortly before it continues.Eventually the computer launches Windows but there are other issues.

Hi, I updated the bios on a replacement board which I fitted in my Yoga 900 13ISK.  The replacement board was originally: Bios: C6CN35WW and EC: C6EC32WW.  I ran the bios update and it is now C6CN39WW, but the EC version remains stuck at C6EC32WW.  I have since tried everything to get these to sync, including updating the platform.ini, attempting to install older bios versions, but after upgrading to C6CN39WW, the only message I get after the machine reboots to try to flash the bios is "InsydeH20 - Secure Flash\n Error: Firmware update failed !! \n Please press any key to reset system".So questions:1/ How to update the bios to get the EC to be correct?2/ How to flash the serial and MTM?3/ Could this be the reason an SSD is not detected?  I have tried with an Intel SSDSCKKF256H6, but the bios doesn't see it.  It is a 16GB US board which I believe should take SATA SSDs.  I'm slightly worried that the different EC version and missing serial/MTM info could somehow be causing the machine to not see this SDD (or any other which is my worst fear!!)4 Is there a hardware maintenance diskette for this model? (or similar) Thank you all

A:Yoga 900 - BIOS and EC version discrepancy and INVALID serial / MTM info

What makes you think the EC version should match the BIOS version?  They are not one-to-one.

Normally, these come with a 1-year warranty.  Is the place you took it an authorized dealer or is is just some guy who cannot do warranty service and would like to sell you a motherboard?  If you have a normal warranty, you need to call for warranty service.

Dear forum members,  I bought a Yoga 900 () from Best buy. It has international warranty. During my recent visit to India, for unknown reason, the laptop started behaving wierdly. It used to shut down when plugged in to the power source and would run fine when not plugged in. Since it has international warranty, I took it to the service center in India and got to know that the motherboard needs to be replaced. But they dont have the same motherboard as the architecture Lenovo uses in India is different than the states.  Since I am not returning to US for next few months (traveling to Europe), I would want to get it fixed in India.  The result is that they are ready to replace the motherboard with the Indian variant however, it has 8GB RAM instead of 16GB RAM I had on the original motherboard.  Now, the question is: should I go for this replacement? If yes then what would be the impact of the downgrade of RAM? And finally, would it affect any other parts in the laptop (possible compatibility issues)? Any suggestions / comments are welcome! -AJ

A:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro motherboard replacement

I would suggest opening the machine and looking for a part number on your old board.  The parts list shows 17 choices for Yoga 2 pro.  The part number you list is described as 8GB, with a win8 std license and an i7 processor.  If you previously updated to windows 10, you may have activation problems, depending on whether the replacement board was also ever upgraded.

I see a lot of the black LCD screen issue.  I have this same issue.  The answer is to replace the motherboard.  What part of the mother board is bad?  I would assume it is the video chip.  These motherboards cost about $350.  Not worth it to fix it if you have to pay for the motherboard.  This would make one to think about switching to another brand.  Why have an external HDMI port if it does not work when the LCD screen is black.  You would think that this external port would be used as a diagnostic port for the LCD screen.

I bought a Yoga 2 Pro laptop in February 2014 (so it's out of warranty) -- Core i5 with 8GB of RAM. Unfortunately, 2 days ago it randomly turned off (with the keyboard backlight and power button LED flashing about every 3 seconds).  I've been able to turn it back on twice, but the problem still persists. From looking around this forum, the problem is likely faulty RAM, which means a motherboard replacement is in order.I am unable to find the exact same motherboard for sale online, but I found the Core i7 with 8GB RAM version. Are the two motherboards interchangeable?  Has anyone successfully done this? Thanks in advance!

Despite lack of an answer, I went ahead and bought the i7 version.  I can confirm the two are indeed interchangeable. So, if you're looking to upgrade your existing Yoga 2 pro, it can be done via a motherboard replacement (though not exactly cheaply). My laptop now works again (knock on wood that it won't start acting up again).  However I can't say that I've been impressed with its quality so far  Forgot to mention: taking my laptop apart and putting it back together again fixed a minor screen alignment issue (screen was not 100% aligned with base when closed).  It always bugged me (though not enough to RMA), and I'm not sure why it shipped out new from the factory like that but I'm glad I was able to fix this as well.

I purchased my Yoga 3 1370 from Best Buy in January of 2014. Glitch-y from the start, slow OS (and then I upgraded to Windows 10, even better...), calls back and forth with Lenovo Support and brought to Best Buy numerous times. Then this past September the Yoga stopped turning on completely. Brought into Best Buy again, tested the power cord, USB plug, etc. and determined the motherboard was fried. Called Lenovo as was told because the warranty of ONE YEAR was up, there was nothing they could do and I would have to purchase a new motherboard. End of story. Extremely frustrated. After spending over $1,100 for a supposedly top of the line product and multiple hours getting it fixed over 2 years, I have what is essentially a doorstop. I will never recommend Lenovo to anyone, both for product quality and customer care.

Just ignore it. It means that the standard test is invalid for your particular computer model - it doesn't have the necessary hardware fitted. The test is intended for the motherboard of desktop PCs - not a laptop. You will also probably see that the Local connection test for the WiFi hardware also gives a warning. Same thing - just ignore it.

The main thing is that overall, the log should show that your laptop has passed the diagnostic tests.

I had my Y2P for four months, I bought the i7 8GB RAM 256GB SSD model from BestBuy. I don't play any games or do any heavy useage except streaming videos (if that counts) and one day in the middle of streaming a video from Amazon my computer just died with no warning. I tried booting it back up but the light that indicates the laptop is plugged in doesn't even register. I tried booting it while disconnected from any power source and through three different outlets around my house and I got nothing. I took it to BestBuy and the guy checked it and couldn't revive it so they sent it to their service center. I called and they told me they had to replace the motherboard. My question to anyone that is willing to help is whether there was anything I could of done that could of killed the motherboard or do I assume that it was just naturally faulty? Could the AC adapter and/or power supply have anything to do with why it died? The laptop was charging and running pretty hot (not burning hot, but hot) when it suddenly died.  Any thoughts would be great!
