Shortcuts to Power Manager Window?

Q: Shortcuts to Power Manager Window?

I frequently adjust my Power Manager settings depending on what I am doing. I would love a desktop icon which sends me directly to the window to make the power selection. Is there a way to make one?

Preferred Solution: Shortcuts to Power Manager Window?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Umm... right click on Power Options -> Create shortcut? It puts it on your Desktop.

After the last window's update on Dec. 18th failed, my computer behaves strangely. I tried to restore the system to before the update, but now I can not open window's update. In normal mode, the window update window freezes when opened. In safe mode, window update does not even open. Also my task manager does not open in normal mode. A taskmanager icon appears on the system tray, but the task manager does not show up. Also the wireless network manager freezes when I try to access it in normal mode. The system takes longer than usual to load in normal mode. The system also frequently crashes while starting up in normal mode, only a blank screen with a mouse arrow in the middle appears. When I shut the computer down, it freezes in log out screen, so I have to manually shut it down. The defragment also will not run.
There is serveral cases of service hang report in my problem log involving Nlasvc, SstpSvc, WinHttpAutoProxySvc.
I'm sure I don't have any malware in my system left since I checked it through the virus removal/hijackthis forum as well as multiple virus scans, still the problem persist.

Hi boman,

Some questions:

You said you are sure you don't have any malware left. Did you have malware? And did you have malware when you tried to do the update which wasn't sucessful?

Do you have a cd with your computer?

Which Antivirus program are you using?

I have created several Window Explorer shortcuts that open specific folder views -- all different. I did this to avoid scrolling through the left navigation pane in the standard Window Explorer view. I just click on the desired shortcut, and Windows Explorer opens to that particular customized window. Not really rocket science...

My problem is I would like to pin a couple of these desktop shortcuts to the taskbar for easier access. But it appears that I can only pin one of these Window Shortcuts at a time (have to unpin one to pin another). Anyone know of a way to do this? Note: I can pin multiple ones to the Start Menu, but only one to the Taskbar.

A:Way to pin different Window Explorer shortcuts to Taskbar

If you create the shortcut with a target like this...
%windir%\explorer.exe "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp"
...then you should be able to pin those to the task bar.

Win XP and I.E.7.

(In WinME and I.E.6 this is no problem,)

Shortcuts on the desktop (to websites) open a window at screen centre and perhaps one quarter screen size. They each must be maximised if each is opened with no other window open and maximised. If it is possible with tabbed browsing I would like these individual windows to open (the next time I use these shortcuts) to a size I create for them by dragging them to fill the screen, but I cannot achieve this.

Thanks for any suggestions (or information).

Just got "upgraded" to Win7 from XP at work and have been trying to recreate/replace functionality from the old system. One item I haven't been able to figure out is a panel or window of shortcuts that is always there, just an alt-tab away.

Under XP, I opened the folder containing the shortcuts in explorer, set it to just list the names, and made it as small as possible. I added it to the startup menu and voila -- there's my little list all the time (it's shortcuts to various config files for a terminal pgm to connect to different servers and such.)

So, I tried setting it up in Explorer, but it doesn't remember the settings or location or anything, and nothing else I've tried works. What I want is just a little list of shortcuts so that I can click on the one I want have have it run the program with the appropriate config file -- something like this:

Server 01 -- Test
Server 01 -- Support
Client 01
Client 02

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Perhaps a gadget? Or some freeware utility? What I don't want is for it to take up a lot of space and I don't really want icons and I'd like to be able to get to it using the keyboard... I'm open to any ideas. Thanks!

I do realize there's a couple extremely old threads on this already, but...

Immediately after installing a new printer (Canon MG3520, if relevant), this computer's started giving me trouble with everything shortcut-related.

All shortcuts under the "Favorites" section of windows explorer now open in a new window. And because they can't open in the same window they're clicked from, it also means they can't open at all when I'm trying to upload files to websites. ("Favorites" itself can be opened, but then treats them as files instead of folders...)

I understand a system restore should, in theory, fix everything, but at the same time it would require installing the printer again, which will then more than likely cause the same problems, so I'm really looking for a way to not end up in that infinite loop.

So. For the basic extent of my own troubleshooting. "Open each folder in the same window" is checked, and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell currently looks like this:

Any help would be super appreciated!

I don't know if this is something supported by the OS, but I figured I'd ask as I'm having difficulty finding a way to do it with Chrome (which is annoying as I did it with Firefox using two profiles and MKlinks to share the cache folder/history/bookmarks/etc).

Anyway, the desired result is this: a shortcut on my main monitor, and a shortcut on my second monitor. Each shortcut opens Chrome in a different specified location on the monitor the shortcut is on (by default windows opens it in its last closed location). The reason being for when games are fullscreen on my main monitor, I dont want the browser opening behind it or having to drag it back and forth.

Possible? My mind would like the believe its as easy as modifying the shortcut with -X,Y or something to specify the location.. but I doubt it.

A:Shortcuts that open programs in custom window locations?

You Can create a second user to do this. Under settings, add new user. it will create 2 new shortcuts user1 and user2 set it up on second monitor, set second chrome with bookmarks, resize the window to make explorer remember it position

I have tried all the common fixes with no success,

I have tried opening one window then another and draging the second window to the full screen size and then closing the first and second windows while holding the ctrl key

I have tried to reset IE settings, all that has done is NOTHING to help.

This started happening after I just did a fresh install of Windows 7, it happened last time but it was so long ago I forget how I fixed it back then.

Surely I am not the only one to have this issue and surely there has to be a fix that works, I just wish I could fine it!!!

I appreciate any help

A:Win 7 Power Options or HP Power Manager ??

HP Factory Install is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

If you'd rather first try to clean it up you can try these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware
but HP is the worst of all brands for its bloatware so if you ever want to experience native perfect Win7 performance on that machine I'd do the reinstall.

I have WIN 7 and WIN 8 with automatic updates turned on as recommended by MS. It is very annoying when you want to shut down and go in a hurry, you see this message saying 1 of xx updates, do not power down.... You don't normally shut down unless you want to go and this is delaying you from doing so. Can I just power down if I really need to go and can not wait ?

A:Updating window, do not power down! Can I power down ?

I avoid that issue by setting Windows Update so it will check for updates but let me choose when
to download and install them. Then I can install them whenever it's convenient to do so.

Windows Update - Automatic Updating - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Doing it this way also lets you choose to reject individual updates if they prove to cause issues for
you, and can assist in finding and isolating/hiding any 'bad' updates.

If your computer has Sleep mode enabled, you may be able to just let it go, and it will install the
updates and either reboot then go to sleep, or pop a box up asking you to restart, then simply go
to sleep till you return, but I have not tried this, so can't say whether it will work or not.

Hope this helps you.

Run a Startup Repair to see if it finds problems to fix - you may have to run it several times. Best to run from DVD or REpair CD.

If it persists please post back a camera snap of the screen you're describing or type out everything on it.

Is this factory preinstalled WIn7 or did you install it yourself? WHere did you get it, if so?

Please fill out specs in bottom left corner of your post.

Hi, running XP Home and when I hit cntrl-alt-del and choose task manager it is almost always empty and only shows me task and has no processes tab.

It is just a gray framed white page with three buttons at the bottom....end task, switch task and new....

The top of the box has two headers "Task" and "Status".

Shouldn't this feature have a processes page? Do I need to reinstall Windows? Or is there a way to restore this feature.

I'm having a really weird problem with my computer, and I'm not sure where to even begin to fix it.
It recently started having a right click glitch where a task provided freezes (whether it be new folder, delete, copy, cut, etc.). The only way I can get it to remove from my screen is if I go directly to task manager, processes, and manually end: dwm.exe Desktop Window Manager.

It recently started doing this and I keep my computer completely virus and spyware free, plus it's up to date with everything. That's the only issue it has on it and I would like a little more information on it if possible before I spend money to have a technician look at it.

Below are the specifications of my computer and the picture of the error:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD A6-3620 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, AMD64 Family 18 Model 1 Stepping 0
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 7664 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6530D Graphics, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 942633 MB, Free - 833682 MB; D: Total - 11132 MB, Free - 1367 MB;
Antivirus: avast! Antivirus, Updated and Enabled

"Folder" is obviously the task that had frozen to the screen.

What is the task you are referring to ? Are you in Windows Explorer ? Or is that part of a Open File / Save File dialog of some program ?

Hi..  When do you xactly get this error message? Are you trying  to boot your computer using a cd?Are you trying to load another operating system?  Secure Boot is a feature designed to prevent malicious software and unauthorized media from loading during the boot process. This option is enabled by default, but can be turned off in UEFI / BIOS. Select your Windows 8 device and use the following steps to change the Secure Boot setting:Completely shut down the computer.Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.Use the right arrow key to select Security.Use the down arrow key to highlight Set Supervisor Password and press Enter.Create a password and press Enter. Retype the password to confirm and press Enter again.Use the right arrow key to select Boot.Press the down arrow key to select Secure Boot and press Enter. With the arrow key, highlight Disabled and press Enter.Press the F10 key and select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOSWe suggest removing the supervisor password immediately after enabling Secure Boot. If you choose not to remove your supervisor password, make sure you write it down for future use.

My backup laptop has only 1 Gig of memory and It is going to be better if I can disable (or run a very lite WDM) WDM to get more memory. I also can disable "explorer" (Windows) to get more memory but I don't know how to.

Is microsoft working on windows blue to disable the Metro UI and give us a very small Windows manager?

How can I get more memory from my install? I already installed and tweak the theme to "aero.lite" and change the background to basic image.

I will only use it for emergencies (just in case) like data center work using "putty", notepad++ and checking emails.

My net book (Dell 1210 mini ) specs are , 1 Gig RAM (FIXED), Atom 1.6, Slow IDE/Supertalent 32 Gig IDE SSD ( FZM32GW18P )

All of the drivers work so it is still OK to use.

Is microsoft working on windows blue to disable the Metro UI

I doubt it. MS are determined to give more metro -not less. It is how they sell their services to the users.
I suggest you put linux on instead.

Mint is excellent - I like the Cinnamon version.
32 bit is incredibly efficient.

Download - Linux Mint

I am having loads of problems due to Desktop Window Manager. As a standard it runs at between 15 and 17% CPU  but every week it will decide to run up to 98% - this causes issues with everything - mouse won't move or click, internet won't function properly,
programs like Sage won't function. It can take up to 5 restarts to resolve this - til next week.
Having Googled it, I am informed I can't turn it off in Windows 10 - is there anything else I can do to stop it strangling my pc?

Does your taskmanager look like this if it does double click just on top of where it says the names like CPU Memory.
