Helix 1st Gen Wacom Pens

Q: Helix 1st Gen Wacom Pens

So, I'm trying to figure out which Wacom pens I can use with the 1st Gen Helix. The included one is exhausting to hold over longer note taking periods and doesn't come with an eraser (for now I configure the button to work as an eraser via the Wacom Feel driver). What I learned so far is that Wacom penabled pens like the Wacom PL-900 should work. What I'm particulary interested in is whether the different nibs make a difference in gliding resistance as well. The included pen is much softer than I'd like. There's also a compatibility list for the Bamboo Feel pens http://bamboostylus.wacom.com/compatibility/It doesn't explicitly mention the Helix but the Thinkpad Tablet 2. Which I believe is powered by the same technology. The Bamboo pens would be interesting since they're relatively cheap to get. Did anyone try to replace the pen with something more serious? Which pens did work? And does changing the nibs make any difference? Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello,

with my Lenovo Helix (1st generation), the supplied pen no longer works. Is there a solution to this problem?

The WinTab driver is only available for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. An installation on Windwos 10 is not possible.
During installation following note: A supported tablet was not found in the system.

Do anyone know when the WinTab drivers Windwos 10 appears?

I've just purchased a 2. gen Helix (20CG) with german Ultrabook Pro Keyboard Dock, very happy with the machine, but a bit annoyed with the German keyboard layout. I've got an older 1. gen Helix (3XXX) with Ultrabook Keyboard Dock (not Pro), are the keys interchangeable, so I can change the layout of the Pro Keyboard to my desired/preferred language (which is Danish)? Anyone tried this or have info's on this? The key-size seems to be the same, but I don't know about the hinges or mechanics and how about backlight?Buing a new keyboard dock is no option for me, the expence of this is no match to the annoyance with it...

I am what passes for IT dept.(mostly self-taught) for a small company. Our server is an older Netfinity with RAID5 array, running Windows 2000 Server. I know it's old but serves our needs fine. Backup regime (using NTbackup) has been as follows: daily (M-F) backups to hard drive plus second daily (M-F) to 4mm DAT, as well as separate weekly backups to external USB hard drive and to a NAS device. Currently backing up a little less than 3GB in each daily.

Lately the tape backups have been giving me a lot of grief: media not found, read failures on verify, bad blocks detected... Have replaced both drive and tapes - currently on second (used) drive and third (all new) set of tapes in the last 6 months. Was thinking of switching over to using USB pen drives in place of the tapes (I can get a good deal on a bunch of 8GB Kingston DataTraveler100's)

Just wondering, first of all, if anyone has experience/opinion with regard to this kind of backup, particularly as compared to tape backups.

Secondly, if I do go this route, I'm seeing that pen drives show up as removable storage, as compared to the 300GB IOGear external that shows up as a local drive. Should I be preparing the pens with RSM as I would with tapes, or treating it as a HD based backup?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

What's hilarious is you mentioned a primary reason why light pens never caught on for desktops (arm fatigue) yet we now have M$ pushing the equivalent (touch screen OS).

I have a 2 year old CIT cobra case and have always had varying issues with portable HDD's and USB pens being recognised don't have any issues with the rear USB ports...one USB pen actually changed its contents partly to what was on it before I formatted it....

I am reluctant to accept that it may be a hardware fault, but beginning to think it must be.

I don't know if CIT cases are well made, or if this is unusual.

I am looking at replacing the case, possibly with a ZALMAN Z11 Plus Midi Tower Computer Case, particularly as it has room for 5 internal HDD's, which I need..

wonder if I have any other options and am I going the right route

I just called the American Support number for Lenovo products and the guy simply hung up on me, saying that I have to call the German support number, since I am located in Germany. This confuses me quite a bit, since I bought an international warranty for my product.Hanging up on a paying customer also seems quite a risky practice on Lenovo's side, especially considering that I am well within my 14- day return period. Am I missing something, i.e. is there any better way to do this? Thanks, Lucas

I recently ordered a Horizon 2, and should have it by next week. I am an artist, and would love to be able to paint (with Photoshop and other software) right on the touch screen with a stylus.  What types of stylus does the Horizon 2 support? Because it has a multi-touch screen, I am assuming that it is capacitive, and therefore any cheap capacitive stylus should work, correct?  But maybe I'm wrong... is it Wacom enabled with a digitizer, or some kind of hybrid, so that a digitizer-enabled stylus with pressure sensitivity and other features (eraser on the opposite end, extra button functionality, etc..) would work?  If the Horizon 2 is not Wacom digitizer enabled, would a Bluetooth enabled stylus (again, for pressure sensitivity and other features) work? I'm assuming some sort of drivers or other additional software would have to be installed to get a Bluetooth stylus to function, but is this at least an option? What would I need to do to get these advanced stylus features to work on the Horizon 2?  Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Before my question,  I just bought the newly-released X1 Yoga and not sure if I should be in the "X1" or "Yoga" forum. The digital pen that comes with the machine is too small to use for taking notes. So I ordered 3 different "ThinkPad" digital pens on Amazon and none will work.  I can't find any specs on Lenovo that explain which Wacom pens to use (it's clear Wacom would be the obvious choice because the machine has Wacom software pre-loaded). But even Wacom's site isn't clear...it shows only one pen that's compatible with ThinkPad products but it's not for sale on their site OR ANY OTHER SITE. Where do I get a regular sized digital pen/stylus for the ThinkPad X1 Yoga?

I purchased the HP Spectre X360 for its looks and performance, being a QHD ultrabook with touch and stylus support I was pretty chuffed with myself. I paid for the restore USB and for the update from MS to Windows 10 Pro and then thought I would obtain the stylus so I could use the machine at work as a tablet/laptop. I purchased the Dell active pen, which many said was better than the HP active pen and unfortunately it was not recognised. I checked through the message threads on here and took the advice that some provided and lashed out for the HP Active pen only to find the same issue. I am now left with two pens and a laptop that cannot recognise them. I have checked in the OS and see via the control panel that the Pen/Touch window does not recognise pen compatability for this machine. I have reinstalled the OS and installed ALL patches and hotfixes as well as the recommended drivers etc from the HP support assistant. Still I have no success, last night I restored the laptop using the USB restore, which in effect restores to the original store bought setup... you guessed it still no pen!! I have read some of the other threads and it seems like there are quite a few others with the same model of laptop that are experiencing exactly the same issue. HP seems to be sticking its head in the sand and concentrating on their newer model, which in my opinion is a step down from the advertised abilities of the 4251. Hi all,

I've been holding out for years now and I still can't believe that there aren't more or any manufacturers making good active Bluetooth stylus options for Windows systems.

I'm referring to the likes of the Adonit Pixel, Ink & Slide, or Apple Pencil, which use Bluetooth to relay pressure sensitivity and other data to your system.

What's the bottleneck currently with Windows? Or is it purely lack of interest in the market, where everyone seems to gravitate towards iPads for this sort of thing?

Surface pro 3 pen is a way more decent than the cracky active pen from HP which is only working for taking notes (with the risk of cracking the screen given how hard I need to push to see my trait).Do you think to implement somehow some software solution to make the new Wacom AES compatible with this laptop?

I've got a Thinkpad p51 with the built in pen screen. I'm not sure when it happened but I just noticed that my Lenovo Pen doesn't seem to work as expected in a few programs- namely zbrush.I have ZERO pressure sensitivty which for a sculpting app makes it close to useless. Photoshop still works fine but Zbrush (4R8) works with limited functionality (no pressure). I have my old Intuos pad and that works fine, but the whole point of paying for the upgraded screen was to not have to carry around anything extra! Trying to install the latest wacom feel driver results in "a supported tablet was not found on the system"(using ISD_DualTouch_7.3.4-47.exe) I suspect that this is the issue- anyone had any luck installing a wacom driver for their lenovo screen?

I am considering purchasing a Wacom Intuos5.

If any Forum Members have experience of this product I would be grateful for your comments. In particular....

1. Quality of the product
2. Ease of use
3. Bundled software
4. Support from Wacom

Is the Wacom Intuos5 the best product? I am prepared to pay more if there is something better than the Intuos5.

The real cost is not the actual money it is the time and effort needed to learn the full capabilities of a new product, in terms of both the hardware and the software. I don't want to invest a lot of time and effort in a product only to find in a few months time that it is not up to the job and I need to start all over again with a different product.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I just recently (about two or three days ago) got a Wacom Bamboo Connect. It worked perfectly the first day I got it, but when I turned off my computer for the night and turned it back on that morning, I could only move my cursor around the upper-left hand corner of my screen. I looked at my pen properties and made sure that all the settings were on full, and they were, but it still didn't help.

I think it MAY have something to do with the fact that whenever I reinstall the driver it says that Bamboo Dock could not be installed, however when I turned my computer on I had Dock on it.

It may also be of assistance to know that I kept getting disconnected from LightIRC until I uninstalled my tablet again.

I can't seem to get the drivers for the Bamboo to stay put in XP Pro. The drivers are listed in the device manager, but XP seems to have decided that it knows better and uses MS fro 2001! Wacom will flash an error and tell me to reboot. This happens every time I shut the computer off. I can sometimes get the tablet to work by switching USB ports and It doesn't seem to be port specific. Sometimes it will work in a different one each time.
I installed w/o plugging the tablet in first - I uninstalled and tried installing with the tablet plugged in, DL new driver from Wacom.
The only Wacom that shows up in the Device manager is WACOM mouse. The tablet is listed under HID device. I don't get tablet.EXE at startup either.
If I tell XP the drivers are on the Wacom CD, XP just says there is no information about my device on the CD. I bought 2 tablets - the one hooked up to my other pc is working just fine in 2K. but I haven't checked the XP home drive yet as I haven't needed Photoshop.
It's not an AV problem as there is none on the problem PC. It is only used to run embroidery software and doesn't go online except for a flash upgrade once in a while. Any designs I have downloaded come thru the main PC which does have all the protection.
I wouldn't have noticed the problem but for the fact that the pen is configured wrong. I want the apps on the switch reversed and can't.
Thanks,
