New X1 Carbon, touchpad and trackpoint not working at all

Q: New X1 Carbon, touchpad and trackpoint not working at all

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

Hello,I have an issue whith my new X1 Carbon (G7), that my touchpad does not react immediately when I click with the phisical touchpad buttons (ie. the buttons above the touchpad). It is noticable when trying to drag&drop an item, or when trying to use the scrollbar similarly (clicking and dragging). It works well when I use the lower area of the touchpad to "click". For example: I select a file in File Explorer with a click and immediately move my fingers on the touchpad to drag it somewhere else, but it only starts to move after a short moment. It feels like the touchpad does not want to react, but then it suddenly starts to work... I thought of driver update, but Synaptics driver is not available. Maybe it's an issue with the Microsoft drivers?Does anyone else have a similar issue? Thanks

So, i'm fairly confident that my touchpad/trackpoint is 'bricked' on my X1 Carbon 3rd gen. I don't know what have triggered it but i haven't been able to make any progress in getting it to work in the last 5 hours. 1. There is no response on the trackpointer, the touchpad or its buttons2. Windows doesn't see any mouse-devices under Device Manager3. Uninstalling "Synaptic Pointing Device" results in a yellow generic PS/2 device, but still no mouse4. Bios is newest version N14ET51W (1.29) and i've done a Reset Default Settings5. Both trackpoint and touchpad is enabled in the BIOS6. Running hardware scans using Lenovo Solution Center doesn't yield any errors7. Using TouchPad-Flash Utility - TrackPointDetect yields 20 warnings and 2 errors.8. I've dissambled my laptop touchpad and keyboard connectors and making sure they are firmly connected.9. Is there something i have missed? Anyways. I've made peace with having to replace some parts - nothing lasts forever and i've had my laptop for 4 years now. The million dollar question is though; what to replace?Without knowing the inner workings of the X1 Carbon i can't get my head around how the touchpad an keyboard interacts. On other models its a single component and you replace both keyboard and touchpad together. Do i need to do that on X1 Carbon as well even though its two seperate components?

Usually I am forced to reboot.A USB mouse will work fine during this freeze. I have tried installing all windows updates, Lenovo updates and even system recovery to a date when I didn't have issues but nothing seems to work. Anyone else have this issue? Its been very frustrating owning this x1, as I am on my second one after the first one died on me.

Hi, changuri

I would recommend trying to install the Synaptics base driver and see if that helps your issues. Synaptics is the company that produces the UltraNav driver for Lenovo, so there should not be any loss of functionality, but it tends to fix issues like this in my experience. This driver can be found here. Try downloading and installing that and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

I recently bought a refurbished Carbon X1. The trackpoint and the touchpad top buttons don't work. The touchpad and bottom button do work. Touchscreen does work. So far, everything else has been okay. The "Enable Trackpoint" checkbox is greyed out in Control Panel / Hardware / Mouse / Thinkpad tab. After searching forums and web, I have tried the following, none of which have worked:- update all drivers - ensure windows 7 updates are up to date- uninstall lenovo driver and install synaptics driver (didn't work)  then reinstall lenovo driver (didn't work)- disable and enable trackpoint in BIOS (with reboots in between)- reset, power off, and reset via the hole in the base No luck so far. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've noticed that the touchpad is unresponsive for a short period of time (~0.3s) after trackpoint button clicks (or joystick use) on my latest X1 Carbon. This makes it a pain to use the touchpad with the physical trackpoint buttons, which I would do regularly (e.g. for drag&drop). The behavior can be observed both under Windows and Linux (tested with Ubuntu 19.10), however, not in the BIOS when using the graphical interface. Is this a known issue? Can anything be done about it?

Hello, I bought a brand new X1 Carbon 20Q model and it seems at even after running all the think vantage updates, there is the Ultranav option missing in the mouse options. I want to configure the touchpad settings individually (e.g. switch primary and secondary buttons only for the touchpad but not for the USB mouse). Also right click by double clicking on the trackpoint is not working at the moment. In short, I miss all the options usually provided in thinkpad models. I tried everything, please help if you can. The drivers listed on the lenovo page seem not to work. I installed the newest touchpad driver, yet in the device manager it still shows the MS driver from 2006... Thank you!

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Dear all, I'm having trouble with both my touchpad&trackpoint not working properly. I am not sure whether there's something to do about my hardware or not, but all things started to mess up. I have been experiencing the issue that sometimes my touchpad and trackpoint didn't work. At first I solved it through disabling driver signature enforcement, but later on both the touchpad and trackpoint lost its function after I hibernate/sleep. I have to restart the system and select that advanced boot option again to use them. I don't know the exact time the issue started to deepen, but, I'm guessing that it's about the touchpad firmware update. I installed it someday and after rebooting the program told me that the attempt to update is failed. And after that the touchpad&trackpoint became completely unusable. Both the device can be seen in the device manager but they just lost their functions. All has worked flawlessly for years. This morning the trackpoint quit working. It's greyed out in the mouse settings, but enabled in the BIOS. The trackpad works fine. The buttons under the spacebar do not work. I've rebooted. I've updated drivers. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I've updated the BIOS. Nothing has helped. Any further suggestions? I'm incredibly frustrated. The reason I stick with Thinkpads is for the trackpoint so if that's not working I may as well throw this out and get a chromebook.

This issue has been afecting me for some time, but as the warranty is coming closer to expire I decided to look into it. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (at least that I noticed) my TrackPoint has stopped working. Googled some solutions (like checking the setup screeen) and nothing was effective. The Mouse Control Panel shows the TrackPoint options greyed: http://i.imgur.com/yudv9WE.jpg  Before I go through the annoyance of calling the Lenovo/IBM support, is there any known solution for this? Thanks.

The TrackPoint input (pointer and buttons) stopped working recently. Touchpad does still work. Both are on in OS and in the BIOS. I think it happened with the latest BIOS update to 1.11, but I was using a mouse at the time, only noticed later that day. Reinstalling the Trackpoint driver didn't solve the issue (to the contrary, first time I tried, that took out the keyboard, but reinstalling some of the chipset drivers solved that.) I had a Code 10 error in the device manager for the trackpoint, but that is gone now. Any ideas?

A:Touchpad and Trackpoint buttons not working

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Hi guys, I recently got hold of my new X1 carbon and decided to do a thorough firmware update with vantage. Hey there! Just today, a rather big problem came up on my T430: The Synaptics Ultranav Driver seems to have stopped working.Keyboard is still working fine, and touchpad also works after uninstalling Synaptics Ultranav. Trackpoint never works and Touchpad stops working as soon as Windows (automatically) reinstalls Synaptics Ultranav. Both are enabled in BIOS. I've tried pretty much anything, from reinstlaling Synaptics drivers (multiple times) to updating BIOS. I'm at a loss here.I'm absolutely positive that this is a problem on Synaptics' side. This is what their controls panel looks like:As you see, touchpad and trackpoint are greyed out. Again, they're enabled in BIOS and I can rule out any hardware-side problem. Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.

Hello, I'm new here and I was hoping that someone could help me with my laptop.I have a IBM Lenovo T410, that was working very well with Windows 7 Professional, including the Touchpad and Trackpoint. Meanwhile, the hard drive got broke down and I decided to replace him with a SSD and upgraded SO to Windows 10, and then the problems became with Touchpad and Trackpoint. I already installed all the drives that I have found on Internet and on Lenovo forums and support pages but none works. Every time that I go to Control Panel > Mouse I get an error that tells me that there is a problem with Synaptics device, telling me to uninstall and reboot. Meanwhile, I installed windows 8.1 Pro, guessing that it could have some incompatibility with Windows 10, but the problem remains the same. Can anyone help me with this? How can I solve the problem? Where can I find the right drivers for my device?Thank you very much!

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

Hi All, I've had a rather weird problem over the past week. I'll be working on my computer and everything is working fine, until I eventually close/reopen my laptop after which point in time the TouchPad and TrackPoint stops working completely (e.g. I can't move the cursor, I can't scroll, I can't click...but I can use the keyboard). Note that this doesn't happen 100% of the time but more like 85%. If I restart the computer, 9 times out of 10 that resolves the problem, but it's not the most elegant solution in the world. Interestingly, my USB mouse still works even when my TrackPad isn't working, thus I can't tell if it is a hardware or software issue. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to proceed? I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit). Thanks!Z

A:X1 Carbon 5th gen Touchpad not working

I have the same problem. This is also effecting the gen4 . With the latest "n1cgr16w.exe". First, it takes a long time to switch between tabs in "Synaptics Control Panel", Ok", "Cancel" is taking forever to close the dialogbox. Also no checkbox can be selected in "Scroll" tab. This latest driver literally does not work. It CANNOT even provide the simplest functionality. Need to rollback the changes asap.  Thanks

Hello! The touchpad of my X1 stopped working again . I tried to uninstall the Synaptics device, which makes it work again after the first reboot, but when the Synaptics driver is automatically reinstalled it will stop working again. Strangely gestures like 4 finger swipe works but the cursor doesn't move, and the touchpad driver diagnostics also seems to see finger movements. It seems that the device is detected as as Synaptics TouchPad V9.16 on PS2 Port instead of using the SMBus: Can anyone help with this issue or post screenshots from their working X1 C6 (Thinkpad tab in the mouse properties and press Alt+Shift+i) ?

Hi, i bought a used Carbon x1 G2 with a broken touchpad (didnt care, wanted to swap it for the one with buttons anyway). Sadly, the new Touchpad (the one for the T450s wich should be compatible with the X1) also doesnt work, they both dont show up in the device manager and yes, i have installed the newest Synaptics drivers and activated the Trackpad and TrackPoint (wich also doesnt work btw) in Bios. Can someone help?  Greetings from Germany Edit: My X1 model is 20A7 and i also bought a new Touchpad connection cable.

Sunday night the Lenovo companion did a few updates including a BIOS update and also an update for the Synaptics, but I can't see it in the Installation History (it doesn't show up). Anyway, after that update, the touchpad doesn't move the mouse anymore. I can still click it, but it doesn't respond to any gestures. I checked in BIOS and it's enabled, I checked all possible settings and it's all enabled and on. Any ideas of what I could try? My laptop type is: 20HR-CT01WW Thank you, Iulian

My X1 Carbon 5th Gen has been driving me insane the last few weeks. My touchpad stops working alltogether after either coming out of sleep mode, or booting. I have searched on every forum Google kindly wants to show me for a solution, but they all say the same : uninstall and reinstall the latest version of the Synaptics touchpad driver. This solution works... but only untill the next sleep or reboot. So, I have been doing that solution many times every day, now, for the past 2 or 3 weeks.. Anyone has a clue as to how to make this stick for good? X1 Carbon 5th genWindows 10 Family x64OS Version 18362.3878gb ramFingerprint reader Thanks!

A:X1 Carbon 5th Gen - Touchpad stops working

I have got a similar problem with my touchpad. Nevertheless, it starts work in a very strange way when I plug in the AC adaptor or HDMI. Nevertheless, I don't know whether this is related to a Software (or driver) problem or is the hardware (maybe not grounded properly).I have a T490s 16GB Ram I7 8th Gen

Is there a way we can change the touchpad Reverse scrolling option (Scroll --> Two Finger Scrolling --> Switch Direction) on the X1 Carbon through an automated way. We see that after Windows 10 upgrade, the scroll option on the touchpad has been changed. So doing it manually it works but we want to automate it either through a registry change or some other method. Yes manual changes works perfectly.
