dual screens with different resolution

Q: dual screens with different resolution

I have windows 7 ultimate 64x with 2 screens. Is it possible to set each screen t o have its own display resolution when they are Mirrored? The screens are not the same and (one is a basic dell flat screen, and one is my hd 52" tv) and i prefer not to use the extend screen choice, but i rather would like to just mirror them but have 800x600 on one, and 1024x768 on the other (just for example). When i watch dvd movies, the entire hd tv is not using the full screen and only shows as a sqware instead of wide screen. I use to have this working before, but not sure how i did it, and i just reinstalled windows 7.

Possible?, and how (i could not see how to do this)?
thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is an HTPC, with an output to the KVM / desktop.

One screen is HDMI output to the TV (dedicated vid chip), and the other output is VGA to the desktop monitor (with it's OWN vid chip).

The The ATI graphics settings is 'Cloned Screens'. My desktop Splash image is outside of the monitor, and it needs a different resolution, I think. Regular display is fine.

It took a few days to get what I've got now (good TV image), so I'm tentative about further tampering. Anybody got an idea here?

Hi guys, I'm just curious about a little detail, is not something that bothers me, but I'm kind of curious.

I have a little Gateway netbook, as you know, netbooks res. generally sucks. Well, this little guy can be included in that list.

The point is that I get to receive a Windows Vista boot screen while I boot it on her screen.

But when I connect it on another monitor it will show Windows 7's.

Is it because of the resolution? Does the Windows 7's boot screen needs a minimum resolution to boot that is higher than 800 x 600?

Thanks in advance.

Did you do an in place upgrade from Vista?? This is usually the cause of differing boot screens... Of course, if you do a clean install of Windows 7, you wont have this problem...

Hi, I've recently purchased a new laptop (Lenovo Y50-70) and it comes with a 4K display.

This is great but I've found some programs are not adapting to it well and also it's causing lag on some programs too.

I've tried to lower the resolution by right clicking on the desktop, going to screen resolution, then changing it from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080. This doesn't fix things though, because the screen becomes pixelated and large.

Has anyone had a similar problem or knows how to fix this? Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you!

A:Changing resolution of 4K screens, Windows 8

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

My first recommendation is to make sure all of your drivers are fully updated, including your video card driver.

What are the programs that you are having lag on?

Are you running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1? Windows is fully up-to-date?

I bought a new laptop with a 13" but HIGH (3800x1800) resolution screen.

W8.1 has a display feature where ALL objects can be scaled larger to deal with the fine resolution.

However, I have one program on the desktop that sometimes flips this off and "goes native". Any idea why this would happen?

Hi, Couldn't find a solution for my problem in the other posts so here it goes.

Currently I'm using 2 screens for my pc, one is a regular screen and the other one a 46'' LG TV. They both are running with a 1920x1080 resolution, which appears as native in both of them.

The regular screen has no problems, but the tv screen appears like it's running a lower resolution (Since its real size is at least 2 times bigger). Even when I move a page from the screen to the tv, the page is bigger than the screen so I loose part of the bottom. as you can see in this image, where the settings window practically covers the whole window when it's way smaller in the other screen)

http://puu.sh/joIMW/be5239fbff.png
(The tv is above the regular screen)

I don't remember how it worked with windows 7 to be honest, but I believe I used a bigger resolution like 2560x1440, which I can't here, since it finds 1920x1080 as the native and bigger resolution for the tv. So the question is, how do I increase its max resolution or there is another solution to match them both

A:Windows 10, screen resolution problem with 2 screens

I know this is an old post, but since no one else answered it, I thought I would (for future reference).

Televisions do something called overscan, which makes the picture larger than the visible screen. This is from the way-back-when days when CRT screens had rounded edges and pictures had straight edges. It was done to fill the whole screen, and even though those screens have gone the way of the dinosaur, the practice still continues.

To fix that you need to do one of two things.

1. Look in your TV settings menu for a way to disable overscan. Unfortunately it's not always called that (Sony called it Full Pixel mode, others called it 1:1 pixel mapping, etc.) so you may have to do a little hunting to find the correct setting. Most 1080p sets have it, somewhere (most 720p sets do not).

2. If you can't disable overscan, then look in your graphics driver setting for a way to scale the picture down to fit the visible screen.

Also, some televisions have one input that is PC specific, and that input should have overscan disabled.

I have a laptop with a 3200 x 1800 screen and the toolbars and menus of Illustrator and Photoshop are nearly illegible due to their minuscule size. Indesign displays normally, as does Lightroom.

On the adobe forums, two entries - Adobe Community: Photoshop CC on a High DPI display on Windows 8.1 and Adobe Community: Photoshop CC / Windows 8.1 HiDPI / Retina scaling support - suggest this is due to Microsoft not supplying required APIs (whatever these are...).

I appreciate that 3200 x 1800 is still new, but over four months have passed since the posts on the adobe forums and the problem endures. Surely a giant such as Microsoft should already have that loophole closed? It is quite astounding that such an issue should even exist in the first place.

Anyone knows whether we can expect anything soon that will resolve this issue?

A:Doesn't Windows 8.1 support high resolution screens?

There is an interesting conversation thread here at adobe forums regarding Win 8.1 and this resolution. Apparently, Microsoft and Adobe have been collaborating in fixing the issue and making it available.

I am currently using an Acer 1916Q Widescreen Monitor. I have an old ViewSonic 19" CRT Monitor. I am always using Acrobat Reader and started thinking about using two monitors, one for work, the other only for PDFs. I have a Radeon 9800 pro card, so, from what i understand, i have dualview suppported hardware.

Being said, what's the routine for this? Is it even possible? I've never tried this, so I have a sneaky suspicion that it requires two of the same monitor (IE two widescreens).

Further more, if it is possible, would half the screen go over to the ViewSonic or is there any nifty software out where I could just have Acrobat going on the ViewSonic, and everything on my Acer remains the same?

Thanks for any help!

If you mean that you want to have two different monitors displaying different things then you need a video card that can do that. If you mean that you want the same thing on two monitors then that is also a hardware function.

What if anything is the difference with, Dual Screens, and Extended Desktop. Thanks

A:dual screens

Very little IMO. Having Dual screens allows you to use either screen to display information by dragging things back and forth but the actual desktop (i.e. where programs open and icons are displayed) remains only on the primary monitor.

When you extend your desktop on to the secondary monitor then you can use that space as additional area to perform the desktop functions that would have been locked to the primary monitor.

As far as I know, you'd need a video card that would support that, because it seems like to me one is on-board graphics, and the other is your video card. Which I don't think that would work, but give it a shot. Lol.

Hi Dual Clone and Welcome,

Could you please fill in your system specs on your forum profile so we know what we're working with?

Importantly:what make/model is your graphics card?
Does it support two screens?
Have you loaded the graphics card software and drivers that came with it?
Can you see two screens in display settings (Control Panel | Display | Screen
Resolution)?
If you see 2 screens are both enabled?

Did your new monitor come with an install disk?

I'm sure we'll be able to help you further, hang in there and get back to me.

On my primary monitor I've run a 360 and my Windows 7 p.c into it. I've set up a shortcut hotkey so that I can disable the primary to swap to the 360 when needs be. However I'd like to be able to access the web whilst using my 360 without having to cycle through the monitor menu to swap back. So I got my old monitor on my desk, however I can't think what to do with it. It's got a lower resolution than my primary so simply making it the secondary whenever I want to use the 360 isn't viable (it messes up the icons). I can't think of any work around, using ultramon and shrinking the main image isn't very good either due to it having both delay and a lower framerate even at the the highest systme usage settings. Can you guys think of any work arounds? I've tried saving the icon positions but then firefox still opens in the main monitor. I really would like to swap monitors on the fly with a hotkey and restore icons later.

Hi,

We have a couple of Dell Precision T3500's at work that came preinstalled with:
24Gb memory
2 x Nvidia Quadro 600
Windows 7 pro

When they arrived the dual monitors worked fine, but we had to remove Win7 and put XP on as some of our software packages for 3D modelling don't work in 7.

Now we are running XP 64-bit, and we have installed all the drivers for the Quadro cards, but only 1 works.

If you go into the Control Panel and Display settings, the first monitor shows up fine so resolution can be adjusted etc. then next to it is a pixelated out 2nd monitor, which when you click on allows you then to extend the desktop, adjust resolution etc. etc. but as soon as you hit apply or ok, it goes back to being pixelated out.

Both cards are showing fine in Device Manager etc.

I recently updated the BIOS to no avail, irritatingly the BIOS is one of those Dell ones that is supposed to make things nice and fluffy but instead removes a load of functionality.

In the BIOS you can choose the order in which the PC uses video output - (PCI, PCIE, AGP etc.) and if you change this to the other pre-set choice (you cant set your own custom order there's only 2 different choices both set by Dell) then the gfx card that outputs the display swaps to the other card, so you end up with the card that wasn't working, working and the one that was doesn't (if that makes sense!).

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated - we've updated chipset, gfx dri... Read more

Hello,

I have just bought a new monitor for my PC (XPSP4 with a 8800GTX)

I now have a Samsung 1920x1200 and a Viewsonic 1680x1050 monitor.

I try to connect both with the dual view option in the NVIdia controller.

I can get the 1680x1050 to dispay at 1680x1050.
However the 1920x1200 only gets an option to connect 1920x1080, which does not look good.

I installed the Samsung monitor driver that came with the screen and installed the latest NVidia drivers. The 8800GTX is supposed to be able to handle two 2560x1600 screens.

When I use the Samsung in single screen mode it works fine at 1920x1200.

i didn't really know where to ask this question...but here is my problem
i have had 2 screens (Acer x223w) one for my 360 Via DVI port with DVI/HDMI Adapter and the other screen for my PC use.
i use a crappy NVIDIA GeForce 9200
i just bought a new HDMI could and HDMI to DVI adapter so i could dual screen my PC when i wasn't playing xbox.
but when i am dual screening and want to switch to the DVI to play xbox it doesn't allow me.
the steps i use to do before having 2 screens is go into Menu>Input>Input Source>DVI-D and it would go to my xbox.
but ever since i have had 2 screens running my PC it forces me back to the PC screen when i try to switch to the DVI to play Xbox.
Screen 1 is hooked up to my computer with HDMI
screen 2 is hooked up to my computer with VGA and then to the XBOX with a DVI/HDMI adapter and HDMI cord
not really sure if that explains my problem but it is as best as i can do

just wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.

UPDATE: seems to work if my screens are set to Duplicate instead of extend. if i choose extended it doesn't like me switch to DVI

A:Can't use DVI while Dual Screens Are Working

not to bump a thread
but i guess i could just use win key + P and choose "Computer Only" When i want to play
but none the less and normal fix would be wonderful...
it also seems my xbox resets whenever i try to switch from VGA to HDMI so that could be truly the problem of the screen not "Handshaking" the hdmi connection

1. Open control panel

3. Go to "Display Settings"

4. Go to "Dual Screens"

5. Change setting to whatever you want

Thats IF you have a nVidia card. You didn't tell us, so I can't tell you anything more.

I opened up Cinema 4D last night with the purpose of creating a cool wallpaper, and I made one that was 3200x1200 (total resolution of both monitors together). I rendered it out, and applied it to my background, and for some reason, it just wants to put the picture on both monitors, it won't spread it across the 2. If that doesn't make any sense, I want one picture to span the entire width of both my monitors. Here is the picture I'm using:

http://infectionist.com/images/misc/desktops/reflectyness.png (huge 56K warning, this image is 4.5 megs)

So since I have my 24" monitor on the right, the part of the picture on the right with the ball should be on the 24", and the darker part on the left should be on the left monitor, the 19".

You should really include your system specs in your profile - more specifically what type of video card you are using in your machine. It will make it easier to help you with this since some sets of drivers handle dual monitor setups differently.

Hi all,

I appreciate that there are a multitude of these threads around, but I cannot seem to find one that replicates the issue I am having.

My computer appears to be randomly restarting when using dual screens. At first I thought this might be an issue of the computer struggling under heavy load, but this has happened with only a couple of programs running (i.e. a low demand game on the main screen and a chrome window running twitch.tv on the second screen).

This issue has only happened with dual screens - I can run the PC under high load on a single screen with no issues.

My specs:

CPU: A406 - Intel Core i7 4790
Operating System: F103 - Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Motherboard: 4214 - NEW! Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5
RAM: C202 - 16GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x8GB)
Hard Drive: G407 - Samsung 250GB 850 Evo SSD
Secondary Hard Drive: G102 - 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
Optical Drive: H102 - 8x Blu-Ray Combo S-ATA

Internet: J202 - Wireless 802.11N 300Mbps MIMO PCI-E card
Case: K319 - Zalman Z1

Steps I have taken to investigate:

Hi...
I am currently using 2 screens (laptop and external monitor.) The set up is that the external screen is my main screen with my laptop sitting next to it on the right hand side. I have noticed I have to move the mouse to the left of the external screen to get it onto the laptop screen. Not a major drama, but slightly frustrating!
I know the logical solution would be to relocate the laptop to the left hand side of my desk.... but I can't as the fixed data cable is not long enough (it runs through a wall). If anyone has any ideas, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A:Mouse problems with dual screens

Hi Bek, welcome to the Seven Forums.

No need to panic. Open Screen Resolution by right clicking an empty spot on desktop and choosing Screen Resolution from context menu.

Now you can drag and drop those display icons as you like and click Apply. Notice that mouse moves then exactly as you put those displays: If you put display 1 under the display 2, you have to move mouse over the top of the display 1 to get pointer to the display 2. If you put those display icons as in attached image 3, the mouse pointer gets from display 1 to display 2 only from the upper right corner.

Practice makes a master, so try moving those display icons in different order, click Apply and see how the pointer reacts.

Hey. Firstly, apologies if this is a noob question but any guidance will be helpful.

Basically, i have a LCD monitor connected through HDMI to my laptop and both screens are working at the moment as duplicates.

What i am after is the screens to coincide and for me to be able to drag a window from my laptop to monitor, or vice versa.

When i have the 'extend desktop on 1 and 2' setting selected my laptop works as normal but the monitor screen only shows the wallpaper of my laptop and nothing else.

Is there anything i can do from here to be able to use both screens together or am i simply stabbing in the dark?

Thanks in advance,

Topcat9H.

So what happens if you drag a window from one screen to the other or press
(Windows key + shift + >) or (Windows key + shift + <) ?

I've been getting the exact same thing last few days, I thought it maybe had something to do with me running dual screens cause the ad pops up on my other screen (I have Windows live messenger running on screen 2, but the adds at the bottom have started to appear on my screen 1)
My PC has been configured like this for 3 years, it is nothing new.

This is exceptionally annoying especially since I did nothing and this just started to happen, no software was installed , no hardware was changed, yet all of a sudden Windows live messenger has this new "functionality".

No doubt we're victims of Windows Update.

Did Un-installing / re-installing fix this issue for you?

I really hate to work for free for microsoft to fix something they most likely did to me via Windows Update.

If not please let me know, its so much easier for me to go back to using a Windows live messenger clone like trillian.

Thanks in advance to any and all who can give some insight into this issue.

If you suspect a Windows Update caused the issue, there should be a system restore point before the updates where installed (created just before). You can run System Restore and go to this point, see if it was Windows Updates that caused the problem.

hi all

I am running a Ati Mobility radeon Hd 4530

I can't get the text to be the same size on both monitors. I use to be able to with vista ( they just where)

I am using a java based application with alot of text (only allowed on set of the text) The size difference is like this ---- on monitor this size ---- the other this size.
I have tried mucking around with the resolution it makes the situation worse.

cheers in advance

A:dual monitor text is different sizes between screens

I am looking forward for an answer too.
Using a laptop with Windows 7 Pro and configured 125% sizing on laptopscreen. But I do not want 125% on my second monitor! How can I change that behavior independent?

Nope. If it were possible, how would the two OS'es control hardware like the HD. who would have control over it?

There might be a way to do it in two virtual machines but I am clueless as to how

I have an ATI 9800 Pro Radeon (old school I know) with a DVI to HDMI cable. My issue is that if the TV is turned off or channels have been changed, the PC detects that its no longer connected and drops the settings.

Some times I can change it back and it will work fine. Other times I have to tell it to extand the display. And other times I have to restart... Consistency please...

I would like it to force display (just like an old CRT), or have it not detect a disconnect. I cant see a reason for this feature anyway...

This way Ill also be able to get rid of the LCD thats on my entertainment center shelf. See if I get rid of it then I cannot adjust the settings when the TV goes out... Lose lose...

I should mention that this is not necessarily a Win7 issue, this also happened with XP. Not the same but close.

Now for the driver issue: I cant use ATI catalyst because I cant use ATI drivers. The PC will only work with the Win7 drivers. I did at one point have it working with the older drivers. But I decided to get the most recent update from ATI and now I cant get it to work right even with the old drivers (yes I did driver cleaning, cant remember what it was called, its been awhile). Anyone else have this issue?

We are currently using four M700 Tiny workstations and have several M73 tiny workstations. The M700's were recently purchased four months ago. Each workstation is set up with two monitors, they use DP to VGA adapters to connect to the DisplayPorts on the M700. One-by-one, three of the four M700's have started having the same issue: - The screens will all of a sudden go blank, one screen turns white, and the other turns grey.- Powering down the monitors then powering them back on does not solve the problem.- Disconnecting the monitors and then reconnecting them does not solve the problem.- Mouse and keyboard input (example: Ctrl+Alt+Del) seem to have no effect.- The only way to get normal functionality back is to hard reset the workstation.- Two of these users are using Philips 224EL monitors and the third is using Samsung S19E450 monitors. The Philips monitors are about six years old, the Samsung ones were purchased this year.- There are no significant warnings or error logs in Windows Event Log Viewer This has only affected our M700 computers, the M73's have been fine. Here are the system details from our M700 order: BatteryNone First Hard Drive500GB HD 7200RPM 2.5" SATA3 Graphic CardIntegrated Graphic Card Interface packNone Preload TypeStandard_Image Warranty1 Year On-site ITC 2 - Enhanced ServiceNONE ITC 2 - Imaging Service 1NONE ITC 2 - Imaging Service 4NONE ITC 2 - Project TypeNONE ITC ... Software Concerns:You have both Norton Security Suite and Microsoft Security Essentials installed. Please choose one or the other but not both. Having two realtime antivirus programs can cause conflicts due to both accessing the same system resources simultaneously.
Analysis:Crashes have a variety of BugCheck codes. That may indicate a hardware concern, or it may be due to the realtime antivirus software conflicts. Take care of the above first and see if it provides more stability.

I have a laptop display (1366 x 768) and an additional monitor connected via VGA (1024 x 1280 - portrait mode):

http://d.pr/i/guID

On the secondary monitor, if I use Droplr and start at the bottom right and go a few mouse scrolls above the upper boundary of the screen to the top left, here is what I get from the screenshot:

http://d.pr/i/aGqp

If I open an application and hold the Windows key down and use the right arrow, it will scroll through the 3 positions for each window, including 3 positions for the imaginary monitor.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of what appears to be an imaginary 3rd monitor that windows is allowing me to interact with but doesn't allow me to see any properties for?

A:Mouse pointer goes off the screens in dual monitor setup

You are going to have to go into the adapter software, to figure out how to get rid of the third adapter.  Without knowing the GPU chip type (ie amd or nvida) and model of the chip, everyone will be clueless.  You have the computer, open up Control Panel, then click on Display.  There should be a folder in All programs for the software utility for your GPU chip, that will let you adjust advanced properties for the display adapter.
